In tracking calls from area code 888, it appears that this is a favorite "cover" for numbers coming in from oveseas, like India. In August, 2012, the name H. M. Group showed up for 888-871-0778 (and the like). The Better Business Bureau gives them the grade of "F".

You pay for your phone service. You have a right to the privacy of your number. The laws were changed about 2006 that wrecked that right to privacy, so that friends of "politicians in congress" could make money. Vote the "scalawags" out of office, and vote into office people who understand the Constitution and will abide by it.

The federal DNC registry has been working fine, within its scope and controlling sales callers which operate legally. Your registration is not a magical shield against every nuisance caller, and the FTC told you as much if you read what the DNC site begs you to look at.

Q&A: The National Do Not Call Registry

What remains is to punish scam callers which ignore both the Telemarketing Sales Rule and your right to a quieter phone. When that happens, it's *your job* to report to the FTC and attorneys general, complain to callers directly if they are not somehow hidden, and file your own TCPA suits if you can.

I received a call from this number and they left a robo-message stating it was a telemarketing call and to call back to 205-683-1333 to Energy Plus. What happened to the DO NOT CALL registry? It is obviously not working.
