Find out about their illegal activities, trying to collect old SOL - STATUTE OF LIMITATION expired debts from clueless people!

Google: "portfolio recovery scam".

Report them to the Federal Trade Commission, Better Business Bureau or your State Attorney General - and block their calls:

Google: "phone call blockers" - they can be purchased for little money at eBay

Some call blockers:
• Uniden DECT1288 blocks up to 20 numbers, plus Private and Unknown, with the reject tone, without ringing the phone.
• Panasonic KX-TG106 blocks up to 30 numbers, plus all unidentified callers, with a busy tone, after the phone rings once.
• JF Teck Caller ID with Ring Controller blocks up to 70 numbers, and can be set to always allow up to 100 to ring through.

By the way, if you want to set up your phone to forward their calls to the Federal Trade Commission, here's the number to use:
1-877-382-4357

These pests buy very old junk debts for pennies on the dollar with expired statue of limitation, than use illegal harassment tactics trying to intimidate uninformed individuals to pay money for this junk debt, which is noncollectable since the statue of limitations has long expired. Never ever agree to pay ANYTHING to these law breaking rats, since by doing so you would void your statue of limitation protection. Google: \"Portfolio Recovery Associates Scam\" to find out more about their lawless behavior, send a letter requesting validation of debt [Google how to do so] and report them to your Attorney General, the FTC. They have many law suits pending against them. Don\'t fall for their scam - block their calls, or send a \"cease and desist\" letter [Google] or simply ignore them, or answer and sing a song or whatever. Fight these slimy roaches!! Good luck!

we have been receiving calls from these numbers for the entire year and our new house/new number. first, we got only live calls. told them wrong number, no such person. said they'd take us off the call list. NOW, we get like 3 or 4 calls EVERYDAY from the automated message. SO ANNOYING. we got caller id to not answer, but the calls are still a nuisance. im considering changing my number...but i'm certain if they are not calling, some other fraudulent company will be calling...

This so-called legal firm has numerous numbers they call from including 240/249-7501, 240/249-7502, 240/249-7503, 800/678-7720, 866/451-2274, 301/882-9975, 301/882-9976, 301/882-9977, 301/882-9978, 301/882-9979, 888/845-0146, & 240/249-7510.

Best thing to do is either totally ignore and not pick up (though they will continue to call for months) or send them one of those Do Not Call letters that can be found on the internet. Once they receive one of those from you specifically spelling out that they are NOT to contact you at home or work by phone, they are supposed to cease phone contact. Usually they don't want to waste a stamp to write much less have something in writing you can possibly use against them.

These idiots have numerous numbers they call from, all of which seem to be dialed by a computer as they usually come in 2's and are approximately 1 hr. 1 min. apart.

Despite being told they have the wrong number they have been calling me since mid June, 2007, just from different numbers.

For those who want to keep track, here are some of the other numbers they call from 800/678-7720, 866/451-2274, 301/882-9975, 888/845-0146, 800/830-2793, 240/249-7502, 301/882-9977, & 240/249-7503.

Ok, I work nights and these guys haven't call me for a while so I thought that the one time I called them back and told them the person they were looking for was dead might have worked... well here i am so looks like I was wrong. So this time I did a little bit more digging and I found Calvary Portfolio service's website. http://www.cavalryportfolioservices.com/

In the "About Us" section of the website i stumbled upon a real telephone number listed for an actual person who is there to resolve issues with customers. So I'm gonna give 'em one more chance by calling and asking once again to stop calling me asking for people who don't live here and next time I get a call from them I know what number I'm going to call 10 times in an hour asking for people who don't work there.

These "people" bugged the daylights out of me in 2005, trying to collect money from someone I never heard of. I finally told them to stop calling or I would report them to the authorities. The calls kept coming until I reported them to the TX Attorney General. Then, calls started coming from other agencies; so, I must assume the account was sold so someone else could start harassing me!

The guy called and told me I owe $52 to AT&T. He was fishing for information, and said I should just give him the money, or he'll ruin my credit. I've never used AT&T, the addresses (multiple) he had were in different towns, but he kept trying to fish for my address.

He called my CELL PHONE, and threatened to call several times a day. HELP! What can I do to stop him?

Been calling our number for months looking for a person that don't exist. Some days they'd call up to 4 times. Sometimes they even call on Saturdays. Whoever owe them money must be owing big amount since they're so persistent. There are other numbers that's associated with them as well. I believe it's Cavalry Portfolio. Luckely we have caller ID, eventhough, this really gets on my nerve.

Once you advised them not to call you or harass you at work and they keep calling, you have grounds to fight back with your lawyer or individually and sue for harassing you. Once you say don't call me at work they suppose to seize all call at you place of employment at that time.

When you get a call form these people, tell them you are going to report them to the Federal Trade Commission and make a complaint with the Secretary Of State in you area if they don't stop calling and get a name ,so when you make that complaint, you will be able to offer some one name .Companies don't want to be reported to the FTC.

Update on this company- Cavalry Portfolio Services.
888-845-0146 is the Tulsa, OK office. P.O. Box 470937, Tulsa, OK 74147 FAX them a Cease and Desist calling letter at 866-842-2036 (that's to Kelli Mitchell) or main office FAX in Hawthorne, NY is 914-347-7537 (supposedly their compliance center). I sent mine as anonymous owner of my telephone number as the person they wanted does not, never has and never will live here. Hope this helps. First, I called the Hawthorne, N. Y office and they denied even having my telephone number in their system or even recofnizing their caller ID. Not particularly nasty people. Left hand doesn't know what right hand is doing.

This number has called several times (Cavalry Portfolio Services) with a recording for someone I do not know. Presumably had this number before me. I returned the call at 888-845-0146 and an "Eric" answered. At first he refused to identify himself. Kept asking for "Eddie". I told Eric I had repeatedly pused "4" to let them know "Eddie" didn't live here. I advised him that I had filed a claim with the Federal Trade Commission, the Texas Attorney General's Office and filed a complaint for harassment with the telephone company. Also, I would file a claim under their surety bond if they called again. Then I informed him I had recorded their "electronic message" on audio tape for future use if they continue to call. Sick of these idiots.

This has been persistent harrassment. Just reiterating what others have written here - an auto announcer states this call is for ***, please press 1 if this is ***. When a live person comes on they want to verify your social security number. I've told them numerous times they've reached the wrong individual and am continuing to receive their harrassing phone calls. Hopefully the FTC or one of the consumer protection branches of the Federal or State government can compile all this information and generate some type of results with it.

After this goes on for maybe a year, maybe less then I can take it to an attorney and file a harrassment suit. I will have evidence and a WRITTEN history to prove their continued, and abusive behavior. Just a thought......

I got the coolest caller ID box from Bell South years ago. It lets me designate numbers and when they call my home, they caller gets a recorded message that says "the party you have called is no longer accepting calls from this number" and hangs up.

Works great for people like this that don't get the message!

Female that called spoke too quickly for me to catch the name of the company and there was no name on my caller i.d. Company stated in beginning of conversation the call was to update information on financials or something to that affect and right away she wanted me to confirm the last 4 digits of my social security number..I refused..she then started reading off my social security number and asked me if that was correct and I said "no" and hung up on her (she actually had my CORRECT S.S. #--scary). I know that no legitimate company regarding finances would ask for your social security number such as a bank or credit card company. Be careful with whomever is calling from this number.

We have been getting calls from Calvery for at least 1 1/2 years. We have spoken to them numerous times and they say they won't call anymore. My husband sent them a letter stating he was not who they were looking for. A few times we spoke to people and got somewhat angry with them and they got very offended! Ha! Who's harassing who here? We have spoken to our lawyer, but he says there is nothing we can do. We just don't answer when they call anymore. It's usually about the same time every morning.

This numeber call when I answered it was dead air. I called back to see who it was, a man answered states the company is "culvorie portfolio" and from Tulsa, Olklahoma. I then asked them to take me off their calling list and let them know I would be filing a complaint.

This number has been calling me every day, and when I answer, there is a long pause and then we are disconnected.

Most weeks they call everyday except Sundays. Now when I answer the phone they hang up. Previously they asked for someone unknown person and I told them they had the wrong number but they insisted that they gave this number on their application?

this number shows up on our caller id each time we get a call for a person who had our phone number six years ago! an automated call repeatedly leaves the message to call 888-845-0146. after a google search it looks like this is a collection aency that digs up OLD debt and debtor information. we have left a message on their answering machine but to no avail. the company "Cavalry Portfolio Services" is apparently the harassing offender.

This company had been calling my number every day for months. I have told them that whoever they're looking for does not live here and never has, but they continue to call.

Obviously, the Maryland State Bar is doing NOTHING, as I continue to receive three to four calls per day from Wolpoff. Perhaps, if more people complained to the Bar? This time (for the first time in four months) a live person was on the line. He asked for "Robert Gray," a person I don't know and whose name bears no resemblance to my own. I told him not to ever call me again. Ha! Like he won't. It is appalling that the Maryland State Bar has so little control over its members.

Wolpoff has been calling my number multiple times each day (except Saturdays) from at least 4 different numbers that I have been able to detect, since October 2005, it's now August 2006. I am not who they ask for on the answering machine and I've told them on at least 10 different occasions that the person they are looking for have never lived here (I've been here for 4 years)...they lie and say they'll stop calling but they never do. I keep a list of each time they call (for whatever good it will do) and have so far received over 200 calls since last October. I now just ignore the calls - it's obvious they don't care that I'm not who they want, their machines just keep dialing away 5-6 times a day.
The numbers I know to be thiers are 866-451-2274,888-845-0146 , (800)678-7720 & 800-830-2793.
