Caller ID said Toll Free Call, didn't ring enough times for voicemail to pickup. Callback said it was NRA (National Rifle Association) not the National Recovery Agency. We can add this number to a growing list : 888-224-6462, 855-856-4583, 636-487-5037 for the NRA.

Says NRA, but I get calls from the National Rifle Association and this isn't any of their numbers. If it is a debt collector, I don't know why they are calling me. I don't have any outstanding/overdue debt. I have one credit card and it carries a zero balance. I have reported them to the Do Not Call Registry, because there is no reason for them to call me.

This a spoofed, phoney caller id, number. It's computer generated and calls thousands of numbers and when it gets a response, they sell the phone number to a host of scammers. Never call them back. You cannot block them from your phone using your phone because their computer just generates a new phoney number. If you're being hacked on a land line, buy a call blocker. I have the Sentry call blocker, $39 on Amazon, and it put an end to this farce. Blocks 100% of the computer generated calls. If they got your cell phone, the only thing you can do is get a new phone number but if you put the phone number on line, such as buying something, you risk it being hacked again.

Im not computer savy and I don’t see where/how to send you a message directly. I had a complaint with United Collection/Portfoiol through the BBB back in July. Interesting thing is I had reference a couple of your helpful comments to ID them by an address in Tampa Florida where I had sent them a money order. It seems that info connecting them to the address I paid to might well get my money back now. I copied some of your comment from 800notes at the time but have no way of finding it now. I was C.Cd an email with a document from United specifically mentioning your work on this post just by the name “Resident47” and also “Scott Tolson” that I don’t think they intended to send me when sending to BBB gal. It looks like you had the dead right information. I Google searched “Resident47” and found your current posts here and hope this message finds you. I’d like to have you take a look at this letter where they discuss your posting and their information. I figure you’d get a kick out of it and maybe you can help me with the other information if you still have it somewhere.

Again I’m sorry for posting this message just randomly if there is a specific way to message a user on here, but like I said I can’t see how. Clicking on the usernames does nothing. If you do see this, I’d be greatly thankful if you could please email me David at

Asked for me by name, if he could speak to me. I said, "Nope". I am the only person to answer my phone, so if someone asks to speak with me then they are complete strangers.
He asked, "He's not there?".
I said, "He's here, but you may not talk to him."
Politely, he said, "Thanks for your time."

Every last NRA phone number thread devolves into the same fight: ''It's the gun lobby, you dolt! No, it's the debt collector, you clod! You fools are all wrong, it's a floor wax AND a dessert topping!''

Third answer, which I've offered many times: It IS both entities. A debt collector with a history of lawbreaking would not mind a bit if call recipients confused it with another unrelated entity, just to fool you into answering. Spoofing numbers used by the lobby group would be a natural extension of the fraud. This is theory, mind you, but the only one I see that fits.

There are ways to address both. The gun NRA calls are likely made by a third party, a commercial call center required to place numbers on an internal no-call list on request. The collector NRA could be tougher, having an interest in not allowing you to disable its weapon, the telephone. Debt collectors answer to the FDCPA, or are meant to, or only do after you sue them. For now I suggest USPS Certified Mail notices, for both.

CountryCowGirl - You are the epitome if ignorance. First off, "liars" not liers. Secondly, "movie makers" make money on heavily taxed ticket sales at movie theaters and DVD sales later, not the federal government. And last but certainly not least, making political rants on a site dedicated to detecting owners of 1-800 number's is definitely not the way to get anything done.

By the way, it is the NRA. They call our work 3 or 4 times per day.

Talk to them when they call. if they are doing a survey - unfortunately it is legal. Never give your name, phone# CC info, address or anything. Advise them you intend to report them to the FCC if they have a prerecorded message (which is totally illegal, even if they are doing a survey). Hanging up on you is an annoyance call and is also illegal. The FCC will listen to you and will act upon your complaint. Hang up calls is all the more reason to report them to FCC. Tell them to stop calling you when you answer the phone If they continue to call - REPORT TO THE FCC BY FILING A COMPLAINT, WHICH YOU MUST FILL OUT THE FORM ONLINE, by going to:: Believe me it works, I've done it many times. I don't have the time to do it, as it's time consuming & I'm busy too,yet I'm so willing to help the system work - I'm on a crusade to nail these fools. Thus I do take time to complete the complaint forms when I get these calls.. Again, it's unfortunate, but surveys, church groups, political calls & legitimate charity organizations are legal. Find out whose calling you, get their name and company name, then contact the FCC & fill out complaint form online. You can also talk w/FCC (a live person) by calling 888-225-5322 - be patient & you'll eventually get a live person to talk with who will help answer your questions. Take the time to do it so we can get these annoyance calls stopped. Again, remember to never give info to anyone--nine times out of 10 these calls are predators looking to rob you. If the public would get SAVVY, perhaps these low-life individuals/scammers would give up and get a real job. Protect your rights and report it.

I called the number back and it IS the National RIFLE Association. You can listen to the recording and it gives an option to be removed from the list. Not a big deal - unless you're an idiot that cant listen long enough to hear that it IS the Nat. RIFLE Assoc.

March 26th, 2013 Sara NY

I just called this number back. Recorded message says it's the National Rife Association and that they would try to call back in a few days. I can't wait! I'll just sit by the phone and wait for their call!

December 10th, 2012 2nd Amendment VA

This call came from the National Recovery Association located in Lorton Virginia, not the gun NRA which located in Fairfax Virginia. They are bill collectors.

Please don't confuse the two as they are separate entities.

September 19th, 2012 Roger FL

The did not leave a message I called the number back and received a recorded message saying it was the National Riffle Association with an important update. I'm sure it is politcally motivated!
