Yes it is shaw but with one little catch to the number. I did not know the number either but looked up the area code 866 turns out this area code is for toll free calling but with one catch to it when you answer it you charged the chrages for the call to your cell phone. here is a little infromation I found out about the area code 866.

Area Code 866 History:

Area code 866 was put into service. With toll free numbers the charges are paid for by the party who is called instead of the caller. Although area code 866 is not assigned to a geographical area, calls to any toll free number may be restricted by the customer. Other toll free area codes are 800, 855, 877, and 888

Is that not interesting the charges are paid for by WHO IS CALLED NOT THE CALLER. How much money does shaw need not only do they rape us in cable service now they have a sneaky way to bill you for there calls.

Tried to call me while LPGA was on TV. Nobody gets my attention when the girls are playing! If it is Shaw, I'll run a free connection to my destitute neighbour as a public service.

The first time I received a call was from a lady from Shaw. She asked to speak with my flatmate bc his name is on our home cable account. She said it was a service call and wouldn't speak with me. Everyday since, a call has come through from the same number but even when I answer, no one is on the other end. It is highly frustrating when you have a business to run and no one bothers to be on the other end when it is answered.

If you are on the DNC list, you call and report them. I am on the DNC list and the only reason they have my number is bc it was mandatory for me to get my apartment to sign the agreement that Shaw would be our preferred cable provider. I wouldn't have given it to them otherwise as I knew this would happen. I even stated "DO NOT CALL ME" where I signed the document. It still hasn't stopped the calls It sounds like there are multiple requests being made from this number.

I just got two calls in a row from this number offering promotions for Shaw cable. He claimed they were out of Winnipeg. I thought the National Do NOT call list was supposed to work.
Shaw cable is not exempt in any way so guess I will have to file a formal complaint.
It came up on my call display as Unknown name. I am NOT a customer of Shaw and never have been so given the fact I am on the DNC they should not be calling.

Back in October 2007, I requested that they remove me from their database. They flagged my account (note: I am a Shaw Cable TV customer) and, for the next 20 months, I did not receive another telemarketing call. However, today, they finally called again. I was not home to answer and no message was left.

So, I guess I'll have to ask them to remove me from their telemarketing database once more. And, hopefully, it'll be another two years 'til I hear from them again. (fingers crossed)

p.s. My call display now shows "SHAW" associated with this number. Earlier calls showed "Unavailable". At least they are no longer hiding their identity.

This number is from the SHAW Cable “Inside Sales Team.” I contacted Shaw Support Online to complain about the frequency/unprofessionalism of the calls. Here is what I said:

I changed my phone number with SHAW because I was irritated at by a large number of telemarketing calls. I have it as unlisted now. Now, several times a week, I get a call from 866-858-7429, a telemarketer who, when they speak, offer Shaw promotions, asks questions etc. However most of the time they hang up when the phone is answered and they never leave messages. I want these calls to stop. Harassing your customers is not the way to keep business. How do I make it so this number will stop calling me? Thanks, Allie

Our Inside Sales team has an automated call system which places these calls. We have been working to upgrade our internal phone system and have encountered a few hiccups such as the one you experienced. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by these calls. It's Shaw Cable, but some marketing company offering Shaw Cable deals (so telemarketers). I don't know where they are actually calling from.

Since they often call and just hang up I wonder if their database shows how many connections they have made and they are paid based on that.

It is however annoying. I changed my phone number and made it unlisted to stop telemarketers. I am also on the DNC list, but since I am a customer of Shaw they are allowed to call.

I don't believe this is Shaw. I have a "Who Called" feature on my cell which gives me the listed name regardless of them being in my contact list; when Shaw calls me their name appears, but when I get calls from this number only the number is diplayed.

from what i have gathered the phone number is shaw cable/phone/internet its just a comercial calling i never pick it up but i does get annoying becuase it only calls my cell phone if it calls your home and you have shaw cable press *60 and follow the instructions to block the number.

I finally broke down and answered and yes it is Shaw, they knew my name and that I have Internet and phone service with them. They asked if I would be interested in their cable TV, which I'm not, and hopefully that will be the end of it :-)

I just got a phone call from this phone number. Woman claimed to represent Shaw Cable and asked if I'm experiencing any problems with my digital cable box. I said no, and asked her what the call is about. She replied, "This is just a courtesy call." I smelt something fishy, so I called Shaw. Now this is the important part:

*****The person who picked up at Shaw told me without any hesitation that they do not have anyone making such courtesy calls, and that whoever just called me is not with Shaw.*****

The Shaw representative went on to say that they don't know how this telemarketer got my number. But the phone call I got definitely wasn't a telemarketer; they didn't try to sell me anything. I've notified Shaw again (this time in writing), and e-mailed the local police department (maybe overreacting, but it doesn't cost me anything).

Please spread the word: these phone calls are not from Shaw Cable. Don't give them any information (I certainly didn't).

If they call me again, I'll ask them to give me my account number and other details to prove they're from Shaw (or at least show that Shaw gave away/leaked their information to a third party).

If I get a another response from Shaw I will post in this thread.

I received a call from this number today with caller id shown as "NAME UNKNOWN". My answering machine picked up and the caller did not leave a message.
Based on comments from others that this is just "Shaw Cable", I decided to try calling back, to see what the result would be.
I was greeted by a very amateur sounding (slightly nervous) male voice saying that it was Shaw. There were then prompts to press 1, 2, 3 or 4 based on your geographic location.

I would like to float the idea that this is somebody who is masquerading as Shaw, and not actually Shaw.

I believe this is Shaw's promotions department, trying to get people to sign up for cable or Internet services.

They've phoned me repeatedly over the last year or so, but I don't really consider them to be a phone spammer. After all, I am a Shaw Cable customer, so there is a "prior business relationship" there.

However, most of the time, I can't understand a single thing that the agents are saying. They either need to have more English language training or learn to enunciate their words more clearly. Also, it would be nice if they didn't fill up my answering machine with garbled, unintelligible messages.
