In 1999, Alliance One Receivables Management Inc. was created by mergers and acquisitions of five different companies. Under Teleperformance, Alliance One has facilities from South America to India, from the U.S. to the Philippines and even the Caribbean. Teleperformance boasts over 275 call centers and is positioned in 45 countries. Alliance One has also is in a wide variety of sectors, such as health care, retail, telecommunications, utilities, financial services, and even the government. Their client roster includes over 500 government entities and courts

Most collection agencies operate on a contingency basis, which means that they do not get paid by their client unless and until they collect from the consumer. If and when the agency receives monies from a consumer, the agency then gives their client a pre-determined percentage of the monies recovered. The remainder belongs to the agency.

Oftentimes, debt collection agencies buy these debts for just pennies on the dollar. The debt collector is free to seek as much money from the consumer as they can regardless of what they paid to buy the debt. This amounts to large profit margins for them.

Typically, employees of debt collection agencies are motivated with performance-based bonuses determined by the amount of money they are able to collect from a consumer.

Regardless of what specific methods a debt collection agency uses in their attempts to collect a debt, it is clear that the agency is in the business of making money first and foremost. And that money comes from you – the consumer. Hopefully, you now have a better understanding as to why collection agencies use such aggressive behavior in their interaction with consumers.

Consumers around the globe have long complained about the unfair and often unethical tactics used by debt collection agencies and thus, the FDCPA - a federal law meant for the protection of consumers. It encompasses a set of rules governing the activities of collection agencies.

I get calls from this number DAILY asking for someone named Gene. I've had my phone number for 7 years... and my name is NOT Gene. When they HAVE answered (usually they hang up on second ring), I've told them this and told them to put my number on their DO NOT CALL LIST, but they STILL CALL either from 866-385-0277 or 866-855-0727.

I received a call from them today at 1607 hours with "unknown name" and "866-855-0727" on caller ID. The lady left the following message: "Hi this message is for ** if you are not ** please hang up or delete this message now. By continuing to listen to this message you acknowledge that you are **. This is Alliance One, a debt collection company. This is an attempt to collect a debt. Any information obtained will be used for that purpose will be used for that. Please contact me at 866-418-2769. Bye." I am not aware of any debt we might owe them. Message is seemingly polite, official, and slick, note caller did not leave name. They evidently do not want anyone to call them back if they leave an open door for ignoring them and such a suspicious tollfree number (could be a scam). Anyway, here is an additional phone number to add as a contact/recall number, that is if this is the actual "Alliance One".

For those people who think this is a telemarketing company, I have checked and it's not. It's a debt collection company. Seems like they got your phone number from a source such as a bank, insurance company, or any other source that you provided it to. Unfortunately, they will keep calling until you notify them of the wrong phone number. It's best to do this in writing, so you have some proof.

Got call from company, looking for someone to collect a debt. Person did not give me a chance to have them remove number. Called them back, took '0' prompt, talked to receptionist and asked what kind of company they were. She said Receivables Management (another term for collections). I told her to remove this number from their list because they are calling a business line.

I called 866-855-0727 and pressed 0 for the operator. I spoke with Karen and told her that I was getting calls from them every day. They asked my phone number and I told them. They said the were trying to contact someone I never heard of (I've had the same number for 23 years). They said they would stop calling.

A young guy called today stating that my wife has a $800 debt on a credit card she was using in 1997. We were not even living here in that year. Obviously they were trying to get information form us, since I did not gave it, the guy started threatening on calling everyday untill we give him the information.

This company has called me numerous times and I am greeted by a recording telling me to hold on. Today a male voice got asking for someone with the same last name as myself but a different first name. I told him that there was not one by that name and requested that he stop calling my number. Immediately afterwards I made a complaint to https://www.donotcall.gov/Complain/ComplainCheck.aspx.
