In 1999, Alliance One Receivables Management Inc. was created by mergers and acquisitions of five different companies. Under Teleperformance, Alliance One has facilities from South America to India, from the U.S. to the Philippines and even the Caribbean. Teleperformance boasts over 275 call centers and is positioned in 45 countries. Alliance One has also is in a wide variety of sectors, such as health care, retail, telecommunications, utilities, financial services, and even the government. Their client roster includes over 500 government entities and courts

Most collection agencies operate on a contingency basis, which means that they do not get paid by their client unless and until they collect from the consumer. If and when the agency receives monies from a consumer, the agency then gives their client a pre-determined percentage of the monies recovered. The remainder belongs to the agency.

Oftentimes, debt collection agencies buy these debts for just pennies on the dollar. The debt collector is free to seek as much money from the consumer as they can regardless of what they paid to buy the debt. This amounts to large profit margins for them.

Typically, employees of debt collection agencies are motivated with performance-based bonuses determined by the amount of money they are able to collect from a consumer.

Regardless of what specific methods a debt collection agency uses in their attempts to collect a debt, it is clear that the agency is in the business of making money first and foremost. And that money comes from you – the consumer. Hopefully, you now have a better understanding as to why collection agencies use such aggressive behavior in their interaction with consumers.

Consumers around the globe have long complained about the unfair and often unethical tactics used by debt collection agencies and thus, the FDCPA - a federal law meant for the protection of consumers. It encompasses a set of rules governing the activities of collection agencies.

Here is what I have seen over time. There are times when these people aren't really collection agencies. Half the time they are the average joe working out of their house, maybe with some cohorts. That is why legal action is not possible because a) you can't find them and b) they are probably not a "legal" business anyway and c) they simply don't care. not to mention don't follow any business ethics. Thus the cursing, the threats, etc. It's all about intimidation.

You do not have to pank call them back. But, sometimes that might work. There are two ways you can handle any phone number bothering your these days. 1) You can call your phone company and ask them to block a phone number. Tell them you are being harassed and you do not know what to do about it. Most companies will automatically help you block that number. It might cost you $5 a month to add that feature to your phone, but hey, you want control of your own phone, right?

2) You can ask your phone company to temporarily add a security feature that requires a caller to enter a number first, before ringing to your phone. If the caller does not know this number, then the call will go straight to voice mail. Some of you may say "Oh, my god! I can't do that! What about all these friends and family members that never call me anyway?!" Well, again, it comes down to control. If you can tough it out for about a week or two, the collection agency will eventually mark that number down as a lost lead. If they can't get anyone to answer the phone in the first place, they lose. Thier whole tactic is to harass and intimidate. Your tactic is to actively choose to not bother with being harassed in the first place.

The third and final solution is to simply turn your ringer off on your phone and let everything go to voicemail for a while. Let everyone konw you're doing this, so they are aware you may wait before answering. Most people understand a dilemna like this. Remember, just because the phone rings, does NOT mean you HAVE to answer it. Having a phone is like anything else. You have control. Not the caller. Stop being harassed by choosing to not be a victim in the first place. Use your control to your advantage. Make your choices. Ignore the fly buzzing around outside and shut the window. Or buy a fly swatter. You can do it. Take a step. Give it a try. If it doesn't work, you can go back to allowing other people to make you miserable.

Call every day at home at least 25 times. This is a scam. They called my employer and said they were going to garnish my wages. HR asked them to fax the information. They never did. Last time they called I just said "operator trace this call." They haven't called again.

Every 3rd part debt collector out there in the world are only harassing people hoping that someone will "cough" up the dough in order to get rid of the barraging phone calls, only to find themselves being harassed by other so called debt collectors. They are all scam artists and have absolutely no basis in collecting any debts.

Was called by this company all hours of the day on SUNDAY and this week a total of 25 times.
I called them today and was told by a very rude woman that she only called me twice when I'm looking at the registry on my telephone and it says 25 times.
She was asking for someone who doesn't even live here. Then when I asked to speak to a supervisor, she hung up on me.
I called back and asked for their address and they wouldn't give it to me (so I could file a complaint with the Attorney General's office).
Called back again and was transferred to an even ruder "supervisor" named Ronaldo DelMar who started arguing with me that it wasn't against the law to call people over and over even if it was the wrong number, told me to go to hell and do what I needed to do.
I am 74 years old and they are bugging me all hours of the day for someone who doesn't even live here.
Their tactics are ridiculous and they should be SHUT DOWN.

Eventually had my grandson call them back and got their address (a post office box but I am sure they aren't doing business out of a post office box).
Anyway, the address is
Alliance One
PO Box 3100
south eastern, pa 19398

Everyone PLEASE file against these creeps. That a professional could curse at a 74 year old woman who dared to ask them to stop calling her is not right.

These folks called us on a Saturday morning at 7:20 a.m. the first time. They then called several other times. Finally at 8:26 a.m., I answered and told them off! I told them that I was on the National Do Not Call List, I wasn't who they were looking for (can't recall who the name was)and that they were calling outside of State Guidelines and were calling people before 9 a.m. I then told them that I would report them and not to call again. The woman's voice got quiet and she said, okay thanks. We've had out phone for over a year and for some reason they were asking for someone else.

This is a collection company trying to collect a debt. They left no name of the company and only a first name. Madeline was the lady that left a message on my phone for someone who no longer had this number.

Alliance One is a third party collection agency. They have had multiple complaints against them for their collection practices and have been hit with several sanctions against them. To stop the calls, your first stop, if there is no reason for a collection agency to call you, is to inquire with your phone company about blocking this number from calling you or with your state's Attorney General to file a complaint.
If they are trying to collect from you, then send a certified letter to them stating you will deal with only the original creditor and they are to cease and desist contact with you.

Thick accent, asked to speak to a person with better English and they transfered me to another person with a thick accent. I think it is off shore, they say they are in USA. It does not sound like it.
I won't talk to them or entrust them with any personal information. Doesn't feel right.
They did not clearly identify who they were, but finally said Alliance One.I don't know who they represent, don't want to know.

Got a prepaid cell about 3 months ago.. got the thing programmed and they issued my number..less than 10 minutes later.. I hadnt even had a chance to give anyone my new number..I got a call from this number telling me to call back for an important message..I called and some clown there said they was looking for someone named Carl..told them no Carl was here and please not to call again.. went ok for about 3 weeks and the calls started again. Still to this day they call about 3 times a day with the automated messages.I am after Verizon to issue me a new number as I am tired of dealing with these idiots. Unfortunatly as long as they keep re-issuing these numbers this crap is going to happen tho. Just go away Alliance 1..

This company Alliance One keeps calling my cell phone with a prerecorded message stating "This is not a sales call" and "please have the courtesy to return this call." Please have the courtesy not to make unsolicited calls to me. I finally called them back, and they refused to give me any information about their company, except to say it was a "financial company." The person I spoke with had a very strong accent. I have to report them to the Federal Do Not Call List. Anyone know what these bozos want?

We have been receiving calls from this company for about three months. We have told them several times that the person doesn't live there and we.ve had the number for almost two years. They are rude and obviously quite ignorant. They have also hung up on us several times after being told they had the wrong number. I'm going to start calling them, I think, until the calls stop.
