Once a day for the past two or three days. It's not my local paper as I already subscribe. If it's the Toronto Star I guess they're feeling desperate as I understand they are very pecarious financially and probably need all the subscriptions they can get.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

WITHOUT PREJUDICE

These Harrassing Telephone Calls started during this past week of 23-11-2009. I got about 3 to 4 calls a day from 416-630-2172 ! Each time I answered, the person calling me quickly hung up without saying anything ! And when I didn't answer the call, that person hung up also without leaving any message on my Voice Mail Box !

When I called the number 416-630-2172, there was a Voice Mail Announcement that said: "Thank you for calling Newspaper Call Centre, if you want to hear about our promotions, call 416-630-6658". When I called 416-630-6658, the same person's voice appeared on this Number's Voice Mail Announcement and said a similar message inviting me to leave a Message on his Voice Mail Box !

It has now been about 2 weeks since I cancelled my subscription with the Toronto Sun, and this Newspaper has obviously instructed someone to harrass me !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I paid my Bill in Full and in Good Faith to the Toronto Sun and now they put me on the Receiving End for Harrassments !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHOEVER YOU ARE, TORONTO STAR OR TORONTO SUN OR TELEMARKETER, STOP CALLING MY NUMBER 416-xxx-xxxx AND DELETE IT IMMEDIATELY FROM YOUR CALL LIST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NO NEED TO TELL YOU I'M ANGRY, YOU'VE BEEN DRIVING ME CRAZY ALL WEEK DURING MY PRECIOUS BUSINESS HOURS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A copy of this e-mail is also being sent to the CRTC as my Formal and Official Complaint ! My Phone Number has been on the "National Do Not Call List" since its very early days, which means that this "Telemarketer" and the "Newspapers" have Grossly Violated the CRTC Regulations ! The Editor of the Toronto Sun is also being sent a copy of this e-mail because problems within any Organization always start from the Top "Employees must do whatever they are instructed by the Boss to do" !!!

GENTLEMEN AND BOSSES, GOVERN YOURSELVES ACCORDINGLY !!!

CARL
P.S.: A copy of this mail is also being sent to the Toronto Star because the Dozens of people complaining on the "Canada 411" Website, are blaming this Newspaper for similar Harrassments from the Same Telephone Number !

If you are receiving a call from this number, you should answer it at least once to see what newspaper they are trying to sell you. I received a number of calls from this number trying to sell me a subscription to the Toronto Star. I emailed the Toronto Star asking them to remove my phone number from their call lists at:

VPConsumerMarketing@thestar.ca
circmail@thestar.ca

and received a prompt response:

Dear Mr. X

Please accept our apologies for the inconveniences this has caused you. Your telephone number has been added to the Toronto Star's DO NOT CALL list and the number communicated to all our call centers.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Regards
Monique

And:

Dear X,

Thank you for contacting Toronto Star Circulation.

We understand that you have been contacted by phone regarding subscription offers pertaining to the Toronto Star, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Please rest assured that we have added your telephone number to our ‘Do Not Call’ database. This should prevent any further contact by our telemarketing sources.

Should you ever wish to subscribe to the Toronto Star, please feel free to contact us via email at circmail@thestar.ca or by calling us at 1-800-268-9213 or 416-367-4500 (M-F 6am-5:30pm, & Saturday, Sunday, & Holidays 6am – 1pm). Any of our knowledgeable agents would be able to indicate delivery availability (days of the week delivery is available in your region) as well as pricing.

Best regards,

Deborah

Toronto Star Circulation

Going this route may be more effective then actually trying to contact the telemarketer himself.

I just ignore the call as soon as I see the display from Newspaper call centre. It is a real pain to get calls continuously from them. Hopefully it will stop once and for good. They should get a clear message from someone that it is harassment getting these stupid calls.

We get a call phone this number probably once a day... We never answer it because we figure its just a telemarketer..
Well I DO know that its not legal for them, telemarketers or bill collectors to call on Sundays in Ontario..and it being sunday I just got a call from them. I should have answered to tell them that..My fience used to work for a telemarketing place back in the day and they said if anyone calls after 9 pm or on sundays then they are a fraud or fake, just to let u all know. But yeah I dont even live close to Toronto so why would they be calling me..It is driving me CRAZY!!

We get occasional sample newspaper drops in our area for The Toronto Star, so I've been expecting them to start calling and they did. 1-2 times a day, at various times, every day this week so far. I am auto-fwd'ing this number to 1-800-428-3003 as of today (with 1 successful redirect) so we'll see how long they want to play this game.

Call Display reads as "Newspaper Call Centre". It's a machine that has called 1-2 times a day for months. When you pick up there is "usually" no one there. We have twice found an actual person on the phone who tried to sell us a Hamilton Spectator and I have both times told them to quit calling us. Doesn't work. I'm calling/writing the Hamilton Spec to complain.

This number "reportedly" belongs to the Financial Post (part of the National Post). It's supposed to be their newspaper subscription sales department. Yet, there are also cases where this number is associated with the Toronto Sun (former owner of FP), and the Toronto Star.

Yet again, there is another report circulating, saying this number has been hijacked by an organization in Texas, along with some other numbers, in what you might call a "#90 scam". Someone calls a business (in this case, let's say it's the number where talking about) and pretends to be a tech doing a "line test", wanting someone to press the "#". "9", and "0" characters is a certain order. Apparently, if the caller succeeds in getting this done, the number is released to the caller for their use (eg. make unlimited long distance calls).

I've been getting called by this number about 1 or 2 times a day, day and night... for over 2 YEARS!!
I'm now querying the 3 newspaper companies and Bell Canada about this, in an effort to put a stop to this annoyance.

If I get any satisfactory answers, I'll post them.

They also call for the Toronto Star. When i asked to be removed from their call list they proceeded to call me again 4 days later. When i requested to be removed AGAIN, they still tried to sell me a newspaper subscription. Relentless..

Since it seems to be for the National Post, give them a shout at 416-386-2300 directly to let them know how you feel! Also can go to the following link to send them a quick email to let them feel your pain!

I'm just damn tired of being abused by this bloody telemarketer!
