I used to support the Mi FOP, but no more. A while back, I answered one of their (many) calls and told them it was a bad time and I couldn't afford to donate at that time... The guy said "maybe later?" and I said yes, "maybe later"... About 4-6 weeks later, I got a bill from them, wanting their $50...!!!! I will never talk to them ever again....

these people have been calling and calling. usually no one is here to answer but today I was home and answered. A Man asked for someone who does not reside here and when I told him he started to tell me he was MI Fop and would like to tell me about his offer or something. I interrupted him and told him that I was on to the scam that they were running. He kept insisting he was not. I told him to look it up on the internet because it was certainly there reported as a scam. He hung up on mr then! What an Asshole.

I have gotten calls from the MI FOP as well. No self-respecting, and I would argue - legitimate - organization would harass people with countless phone calls, or at stupid hours, or behave like some of you have reported. I don't know if the MI FOP is simply in disrepute, or if their lines have been "hijacked" somehow by scamming idiots, but here's what I did about it [I have yet to see if this works, but it should]:

Here is an excerpt from the PR Newswire website, stated by the MI FOP:

Michigan Fraternal Order of Police
636 Michigan National Tower
Lansing, MI 48933
Questions: Toll-free: 888-FOP-MICH 888-367-6424)

The Michigan FOP also reminds the public that when making a contribution
to relief efforts to be sure they are giving to a bona fide charity.
Unfortunately, there have already been instances of scam artists collecting
donations and falsely claiming they are charity organization representatives.
The Michigan F.O.P. is the state's oldest and largest law enforcement
organization with more than 12,500 members. The Fraternal Order of Police is
the nation's largest police organization with a membership of 270,000.
Founded in 1915, the F.O.P. represents professional, full-time officers from
all agencies of law enforcement.

I called that number and reported the calls I was getting, mentioning you guys as well. I mentioned that no legitimate organization would behave like this. She apologized on behalf of the MI FOP, and said she could put me on their DO NOT CALL list. I told her that others have requested this from callers, and have been told they couldn't or further harassed. She explained that while your local lodge/s may still call [I've never gotten any local calls] - that this list would affect the statewide [long distance] calling. She said to give it a couple of days to go into effect, but that I shouldn't get any more calls from non-local MI FOP's [which is all I got, anyway]. She said if for some reason I do get another call, to call her and let her know. Maybe you guys could do the same. Her name is Mary Clark. Good luck to all of us.

We have gotten these calls at home and here, in our office. At home, we do not answer any call from someone we do not recognize. Unfortunately, this number, and about 10 others with similiar scam-type solicitations also call our office and I have to answer every call that comes in, as I am customer service. I took to writing down the "scams", so I would know which calls not to answer, but now the list is so long it is impossible to get through before the call will stop ringing. Idiots. Stop bothering us!!

Everytime I get a call from someone claiming they want a donation for the Michigan Fraternal Order of Police, which I know is a scam called, I tell them that I am busy but please leave a name and number where I can call them back. That is when they hang up. The latest caller said, "Oh we can call you back at...." and hung up midsentence. The above number is a landline in Fremont, Michigan.

I stand corrected. I said "MI FOP" stood for Michigan Friend(s) of Police.... but seeing someone else's comment brought back to me the correct representation, "Michigan Fraternal Order of Police".... I knew it was something like that. But whatever they call themselves, it's a bunch of B.S.

For years now (over 10 years or even more, I think), I've periodically gotten a call from the MI FOP (Michigan Friend of Police). This last time the phone number on my caller ID was 231-224-2083. They're always asking for donations and each time I tell them, "I don't do matters over the phone relating to monetary contributions, negociations, payments or investments." but they continue to call ever so often anyway. I asked them to put me on their DO NOT CALL list but was told they would continue to call for donations as they felt was necessary because they were calling on behalf of a charity organization. Even when I told them they were wasting their time (and more importantly...MINE!)because I'd NEVER do money related transactions over the phone unless I was the one who initiated the phone call, they got extremely indignant. I don't know where abouts in Michigan these "guys" are from but every guy who's called over the years has had a thick heavy southern accent. I've lived in Michigan all my life and I've no clue to where in Michigan I'd find so many people with the same thick southern accent representing a Michigan charity. This last time they called at the beginning of July 2010 and after seeing the caller ID with "MI FOP" displaying, I didn't answer the phone.

This phone number is calling to try to SCAM money for the Fraternal Order of Police. I have NOT called the number, nor will I. It directs you to a customer service department that can answer questions using potentially manipulative techniques, help you waste your donation on fundraising fees, or anything else related to the FOP getting a small fraction of your donation, 12% to 27% Some fundraiser's pocket as much as 73% to 90% and up. Also, there’s information on www.badgefraud.org on the massive numbers of warnings put out by FOP Lodges that do not use so called professional fundraisers and Real Police and Sheriff and Fire Departments. But you can contact them there with any questions or requests.

BadgeFraud (dot) org is doing a lot of really great things for POLICE OFFICERS FAMILIES and the people that post are NOT trying to raise money, they are trying to protect the money of the people who protect us, and that is something very good.

This is from the legitimate mifop.com website:
The Michigan Fraternal Order of Police represents over 11,500 members across Michigan. We do solicit donations on the telephone. Our program is completely legitimate. We are registered with the Michigan Attorney General to conduct our program under the Michigan Public Safety Solicitations Act. All of our calls are recorded and can be verified. The funds raised are used throughout Michigan in a variety of ways.

We conduct an eighth grade essay contest that includes every school in Michigan with over $20,000 in U.S savings bonds to the winners. We donate time, money and bodies to the Law Enforcement Torch Run. We give financial assistance to the families of officers killed in the line of duty. Funds from this program are shared with our fifty five lodges that support local charities and youth activities in their communities. Many of your children have played little league, soccer or football on FOP sponsored teams. Many of your children have received scholarships from our local lodges. Funds from this program are also used to improve the working conditions and benefits of our members.

These are the telephone numbers we use for our fundraising calls.

I remember this group from over 10 years ago. I believe at the time it was revealed that although they collected money for the MI Fraternal Order of Police this is an independent group which kept a substantial percentage of the donations for their own profit. My advice, if you want to support your local or state police departments, is to call them directly and make a nice donation so you know 100% of it is going where you think it is.

THIS IS NOT ABOUT THE GROUP ON THIS PAGE< BUT IT IS ABOUT ANOTHER POLICE GROUP>

THIS IS OUR PUBLIC EDUCATION CAMPAIGN ABOUT POLICE FIRE VETERAN"S AND CHILDREN'S CHARITIES. It can happen anywhere and when it does we would love to hear from you.

As for the group on this page, it would be a good idea to let your fundraiser know we are out here and now you know that we are looking at them too. I would not let them misrepresent because the first time they do and we catch them, it's all over with but the crying.

Officer Down Foundation,

This is a message from Rev. James revjames@pfcl.org of the Holy Land Spiritual Church Inc. in Maryland and its integrated auxiliary Police Fire Crimeline (The Badge Fraud Tip Reporting Hotline) www.badgefraud.org

I am only going to tell you this one time. Don't you dare come out here on to this or any other board and try to say you are trying to help fallen police officers. You are not trying to help anyone but yourselves. You think I am going to let you talk to these people who are trying to protect themselves from you in that condescending manner. Let me see if I can explain this to your two week on the job backside. Officer Down Foundation's program is to teach Crisis Chaplaincy to Chaplains, it is not to provide benefits to the families of officers killed, they only pitch that because their real program would not get them one single donation, and every time you say they are providing benefits to families of officers killed it is a lie and a misrepresentation and is potentially criminally actionable against you personally as well as your bosses David Fair, Paul Kutac, Phil Leconte and David Deriks.

I will bet you did not know that those are the same group of guys that run the Police Protective Fund and American Association of Police Officers and the Junior Police Academy. These men are so honest and hard working that even after several states sued the pants off of them they had to go out and start another identical fake charity. Remember "Operation False Charity"? Yeah, wow, they were part of it, and now look at who has come to defend them and their new carbon copy of the Multi State proven fraud the Police Protective Fund and by extension The Crisis Chaplin Project.

You, a person that I already know has maybe 2 weeks experience on the phone. I am going to offer you some sage advice from one of your elders in what is left of that industry. GET A NEW JOB! This one is about to disappear.

Now, you have called into 6 of my 50 states and misrepresented yourselves, Maryland, Virginia, Indiana, Illinois, Tennessee and North Carolina and that is a problem for your organization because that is where my organization is located and our mission is to protect charitable dollars specifically raised in the name of Officers Killed in the Line of Duty. Now let me tell you what my organization does. We search out and report fraudulent Police Fire Veteran's and Children's Charities and their professional fundraisers. We protect the money of the people who protect us.

If anyone reading this wants to help with a donation for us to keep going after these scams, feel free to email me and lets talk. revjames@pfcl.org And unlike David Fair attempting to claim 501 c3 status before it is granted, Churches, like the Holy Land Spiritual Church in the United States are granted automatic 501 c3 status so you know you can deduct your donation from your taxes when the law allows.

We also recruit former professional police fundraisers as volunteers to help us go after groups like yours and you would be welcome to join us as well. And we always want to hear any tips on fraudulent activity in public safety charities so we can report them too. The days of diverting money from non profits and charities that really give their money to the families of officers killed in the line of duty, are OVER!

What a coincidence that would be huh? A church and a Minster going after a Chaplain, I would say God called one of us and the other has a big problem not just on earth, but after life too.

Do you know how much easier our job would be if your Officer Down Foundation did not exist?

I am not the kind of minister you are probably familiar with that gets up on Sunday morning to preach about Fire and Brimstone. I am the kind of minister that BRINGS Fire and Brimstone to your doorstep.

See the problem for your organization is that because of your fraudulent activity, you are making us expend our donor’s money to investigate you because you see, that is what OUR donors (Holy Land Spiritual Church) gave their money too and they knew full well that they were giving their money for us to go after groups like yours.

That would be the exact opposite of your group where the donor’s think they are giving to the families of officers killed in the line of duty but what you dont tell them is that the money they donate is really going to David Fair's personal mission of this "Crisis Chaplain" concept.

Well if you did not know we existed before I am not surprised, they never tell you phone jockey's anything, but you are about to know we exist now.

It is our duty and responsibility to protect our donor’s money and the only way for us to do that in the case of the Officer Down Foundation is for them to shut down voluntarily or we must sue the pants off of your group until you are ended. Oh and that is not all you have to look forward too, in North Carolina where you are calling, what you are doing is considered to be a class H felony.

GET A NEW JOB! THE FREE RIDE IS OVER! WE ARE COMING TO SHUT YOU DOWN!

Sincerely,

Rev. James

We are continually harassed by calls from MI FOP... There are to many to be considered as a viable call.... I cannot verify the validity of the call and would never process any request via the phone or the internet because of rampant - Fradulent scams that are plaguing each of us daily. For what it's worth, any money that you give will not be verified against anything or any item of support. It will be a black hole.. Best to give to local organizations where you will see results for dollar given.
To bad, - the good guys suffer for the *ssholes that ruin good for their bad.

To reduce this issue, I left the following email with the MI FOP website and suggest that other afflicted with these calls do the same. If I do not get a response back will solidify the call as a SCAM.

My note to the FOP website
Please honor the DO NOT CALL LIST....
I appreciate the support that you MAY give to the FOP and others, HOWEVER, I rent the phone line for my purposes and not for anyone to abuse. We subscribe to the do not call list and have done since inception for very specific reasons. The one most importatnt is that I do not want solicitaions that I did not ask for. The internet list hundreds of these violations by MI FOP that are of concern to each and that have been annoyed by these calls for donations whether scammed or not.
Prior to calling any number, especially mine....., verify enforcment to the Do Not Call harassement policy. If I get another call, I will follow through with the process to secure harassement action.
I deliberatly left off my phone number to reduce proliferation of my phone number. You can contact me by email.

Thanks

Telemarketing possible scam. Persistent caller does not leave voice mail message. Accidentally answered and some guy yammering a mile a minute said it was the Fraternal Order of Police calling but not to worry, no one will be arrested. It took a lot of raised voice for me to get a word in edgewise when he started in about this call being recorded. I said, "Great! Record this: We do not take calls like this. Take this number off your list and stop calling." I hung up and then put the number on my "block" list, which is such a great service through VoIP.

A man called my 82 yr old mother requesting money to help the families of fallen officers. He told her that if she didn't have the money now, she could donate on the 1st of the month! When my mom asked for a phone number or address, he hung up the phone! I have many friends who are police officers, and in fact one of them was killed on February 4th, 1991, so I GREATLY resent these scam artists using our fallen police officers and their families for their own personal financial gain! I'm also truly angered and disgusted that these individuals are attempting to take advantage of, in this case, the elderly! SOMEONE needs to see to it that justice is served, and not allow these idiots to get away with this!

This phone number is calling to do fund raising for the Michigan Fraternal Order of Police. I have called the number. It directs you to a customer service department that can answer questions, help you donate, or anything else related to the FOP. Also, there’s information on www.mifop.com. Plus, you can contact them there with any questions or requests.
The FOP is doing a lot of really great things for Michigan police officers and the people that call are trying to help them raise money so they can do even more good.

If you read the FOP web site and call them, you'll find out that the FOP does not solicit by phone. Seems they always want the lady of the house, funny isn't it. Being Gay, I gave the caller to my "wife". The caller also said he couldn't hear "her" and hund up. Once again, another one of those Boiler Room Operations. Just screen your calls people. These calls are unfair pressure because of the "bad_citizen" connotation.
They'll go away when you say you are out of work and were thinking of asking THEM for help

Ditto John two posts back!
I received but did not answer a call from this number. Since I didn't speak to any person I can't comment on how they would have been.

But I do fully support the Michigan FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICE as they are a fantastic group of public servants that protect you and your families.
They post this number on their home page and I recommend that if you are not happy with how they conduct themselves I would recommend calling their main number 1-888-367-6424 and reporting it.
Please review their website and if you feel comfortable, maybe you could make a donation to these folks!

All of you should check out the FOP website and report the correct information!
Maybe call them as well, because you all seem to be spreading incorrect information./

My # is unlisted and on do not call registry. Has anyone reported this to f o p? Newsstations?

I saw this # on my caller ID, so I called it back and there was a recording stating who they were and the support FOP provides.
I am a sharp cookie, guess I should not have been so trusting... any ideas of what I should do now?

A young sounding man asked if I was "the lady of the house?" I answered: "No who is this?" "Brian, from the fraternal order of police." When I tried to get more information, he abruptly excused himself and would call back to find the "lady of the house" "another time" and hung up at the beginning of my next sentence. The call ID
said MI FOP 2:15pm 02/16/10. It sounded pretty "foppy" to me. I had just returned home from a brief errand, and (I have a brief memory a similar scenario from a Brian months ago), just crawled into bed, not feeling well. I say perfect timing for a fop to call.
I intend to do something about it this time. Sounds like a technostalker to me. Thank you for this sight, provided you are not "Brian", trolling for us curious and annoyed ones.

I traced it as far as a land line in Freemont, MI Newaygo County! I guess I probably could get a more clear definition through a search company! but I'm afraid it will lead to a unknown comp terminal.

Call registered as MI FOP and they were also asking for the lady of the house, and then said they'd call back later because someone was beside the speaker, what was odd is that somebody really was beside me. Wild guess perhaps or does this "Fraternity of Police" spy on people or something?

Don't answer! This is NOT for the MI FOP, but seems to be a scam fun in their name. MI FOP uses "C4C", not "CTC Marketing."
To donate, or verify my claims, visit http://www.mifop.com/new_fundraising.htm or http://www.mifop.com/ and click on fundraising.
Also, you can call the MI FOP at 517-367-8000 or TOLL FREE 1-888-367-6424.
