In 1999, Alliance One Receivables Management Inc. was created by mergers and acquisitions of five different companies. Under Teleperformance, Alliance One has facilities from South America to India, from the U.S. to the Philippines and even the Caribbean. Teleperformance boasts over 275 call centers and is positioned in 45 countries. Alliance One has also is in a wide variety of sectors, such as health care, retail, telecommunications, utilities, financial services, and even the government. Their client roster includes over 500 government entities and courts

Most collection agencies operate on a contingency basis, which means that they do not get paid by their client unless and until they collect from the consumer. If and when the agency receives monies from a consumer, the agency then gives their client a pre-determined percentage of the monies recovered. The remainder belongs to the agency.

Oftentimes, debt collection agencies buy these debts for just pennies on the dollar. The debt collector is free to seek as much money from the consumer as they can regardless of what they paid to buy the debt. This amounts to large profit margins for them.

Typically, employees of debt collection agencies are motivated with performance-based bonuses determined by the amount of money they are able to collect from a consumer.

Regardless of what specific methods a debt collection agency uses in their attempts to collect a debt, it is clear that the agency is in the business of making money first and foremost. And that money comes from you – the consumer. Hopefully, you now have a better understanding as to why collection agencies use such aggressive behavior in their interaction with consumers.

Consumers around the globe have long complained about the unfair and often unethical tactics used by debt collection agencies and thus, the FDCPA - a federal law meant for the protection of consumers. It encompasses a set of rules governing the activities of collection agencies.

I has a similar experience as those described here. I notice that Alliance One has a Google ad on this page, so I'd be careful what you say; they may monitor it. No need giving these low life scumbags any ammunition.

I received a call from this number around 8:30am EST, he left a message with a hard to hear voice, didn't say company name, just said his name Jimmy ... something, and the call back number is 1 866-638-0858. I traced this number and found it's a a gift store The Merchants Depot. Compare with what people here had, I guess the guy gave me a wrong number

Sean Smalley called and was looking for my ex--who was never at my #. He left this message---there is a complaint filed at the county courthouse and you need to call 866-210-4342 immediately. These guys have been so rude to me in the past, so I googled them and found this site!

Have received calls on cell and job from these jerks trying to collect on a debt from years ago that I paid off. They picked it up from my credit report. I paid another collection agency unaware that it would still show up. DO NOT PAY THESE PEOPLE! You will never get rid of them. They will threaten you which is against the law but these cubicle jerks hide from the law. Report them to FTC. Debt scavengers are the worst!

Caller (female with indecipherable name) was very vague on details but leaves a very threatening and intimidating on the voicemail. As others have said, more than likely Alliance One Collection Agency. Leaves a call back of 866-887-2941. Ignore them and tell them to fuck off and die.

Got a call asking for a linda ...... and I said there was no one here by that name. He then asked for my name, linda....and said he had a "time sensitive matter" to discuss (he was very rude). I hung up. He called back and I answered hello? him - lady, if you hang up this phone I will have the sherriff at your door. I hung up. He proceeded to immediately call back 5 times, which I ignored. He left a threatening message on my machine -"you need to call 866-786-2634 ASAP! about a claim filed against you.

I have never even had a ticket, so if he thinks threatening the sherriff at my door is going to shake me, well, sorry, buddy, he can come to my door anytime he wants.

Received a call looking for someone named Jason. I replied that was not my name. He told me he was calliing on behalf of Wachovia, who I have never had business with, and I should live up to my responsibilities. He didn't elaborate which ones. Said he got my number from my mother. I laughed and hung up.

Gary David gave the call back number 866-718-7163 and slurred the name of the company, threatening to do 'something' with files the following week. Obviously, that number can't be found on the web, nor can the 215-354-5500 be found on anything but fraud reporting sites.

received a call saying we owed $180.00 for an unsecured loan from 4 years ago from our old bank. Haven't banked with them in probably 5-6 years. Said we needed to take care of it soon and that they took debit or credit over the phone. Said his name was James Courtney and the number to call him was 1-866-798-9202. When I called back, he said "hello, may I help you?" Didn't state company name
