A very rude man keeps calling saying "Hi this is John with Customer Service on the Copier". He has called so many times and I always tell him "We already have a copier service". A Steve and an Ashley have both called too. Steve or John (or maybe both) have cussed me out multiple times, got so angry that I said Sir, and told me to go F myself. These people need to be put in prison.

Do not give these people any info on your copier. They will get your model number and send you toner etc and then bill you and when you complain that you did not order they will say sorry but the only way we got your model number was by you providing it to them. JERKS...........

Oh yeah, there is a new wave of these toner sales scammers being reported on 800Notes as well. As reported prior, the idea is to gain the confidence of some unsuspecting office drone. Soon afterward your workplace is likely billed some obscene amount for the cheapest and crummiest toner carts they could find on a Chinese boat. Technically no order was placed and the initial caller engages in pretexting to make the ''sale''. Nonetheless the scammers will pound the victims with threatening collection calls.

This TechRepublic article, cited here already, from Nov 2001 (Yes, it's a vintage scam!) explains more:

A phrase search with the term ''phoner toner'' will yield innumerable recent warning articles.

I have this number on my "intercept" list from a previous call. They called today and hung up after my automated interceptor message started "The party you are calling is not accepting calls from your number..." Clunk. I happened to pick up (by mistake) just in time to hear the hang-up. Of interest, it was a phone with a receiver, and not a headset! I figured these goofs would be more sophisticated. Hmmm. Maybe this is one of the home scam/telecommuting businesses?

Received a call today. He said he was the service man for my copier and was trying to get the model number He said his name was Jeff Davis from WPS in Los Angeles, though I am sure he was lying. They use several different numbers also cell phones. He called from 323-848-4446. ********BEWARE OF THIS SCAM********

Brian Adams from Office Support Systems contacted me months ago (roughly sometime in August of 2010). He lead me to believe that he's affiliated with Xerox (we have a Xerox copier) and has toner for a reduced price, and the offer will not last long so I should place an order to save the company money. I unfortunately bought into it ($798 plus shipping and handeling, what a rip off!).I was under the impression that I'd receive one single package of toner, pay the invoice (unfortunately we did) and that would be that so to speak. Months later (Nov. 2010) I received an unexpected second package of toner that another employee signed for (I was out sick. Had I been present, I would have refused to sign for the package). I called and spoke with customer service which lead to eventually getting connected with Brian Adams.I explained to him that I was not expecting a second delivery and would like to return the toner, especially since we already have several that haven't been used just yet. Brian claimed that what I agreed to is a package set up (you receive two toners), that's the way it works;therefore I cannot return the toner. He then acknowledged that someone should have explained this to me and offered to take 25% off the invoice as a result; asked for my fax number so he can fax the invoice. I spoke with him again about the matter and he blamed me since I was the one that placed an order. He also said that "we don't do charity cases." He also claims that he did not speak to me initially. I don't think we should have to pay period. In fact, we should be refunded for the first rip off and the second invoice; we should have no obligation to pay on the basis of deceptive sales practices. I've complained to the attorney general as well as the Better Business Bureau, and Federal Trade Commission may be the next point of contact. What is really sketchy is I can't seem to find a website for them, no email address and the location address I've initially seen is as follows: P.O. Box 93552 Los Angeles, CA 90093. Telephone: 877-333-4320; Fax: 877-333-4319. Another address has popped up for them through research (CA BBB): 1013 Madrid Ave Torrance, CA 90501. On top of that, I noticed a third address (shipping):1618 N. Las Palmas Ave Los Angeles, CA 90028 Also, they are only open 7am to 1pm during the work week. After I filed a complaint with BBB, another scam artist called to ask what the company name is (wouldn't you know in the first place!?). The number popped up as 213-537-1910. I called back to see who it was and got a busy signal. I don't think it would be far fetched to assume those A-holes are associated with OSS and are trying to scam our company once again! I still can't believe I fell for this. Typically I can tell when a call is from a telemarketer trying to rip you off. Please learn from my naitivity! Don't give out your name, better yet, don't give out the company name either if you see a strange number! Hang up on them! And don't accept packages from them if they try to send you toner you did not order anyway!

I'm not sure who this person was or why they called. They wanted confidential information about an employee and when I said I wasn't able to provide them the information he asked, "Is this your first day on the job, you're an idiot!" Again I explained that this was not information we shared on our staff but I'd be happy to take a message. At that point her dropped the "F-bomb" & hung up on me. Then he launched into a call back & hang up attack. Talk about idiot, did he not think I had caller id?

Get calls about 3x a week from "customer service" or "distribution services" asking for company info to "update their records." When I ask what company or ask to speak to a supervisor, they hang up.
 Aug 30th, 2010
I had a call from them today, and as I know we do not get our copier supplies from this company, I started asking her questions she could not answer. She hung up after the third question. Definitely a scam.
 Aug 12th, 2010
I get calls from them all the time, I usually put them on hold until they hang up.. But recently when they call, I tell them the copy machine is in another office, I can give you the phone number to that office.. they say ok.. I give them #202-326-2222 which is the Federal Trade Commission Phone Scam Reporting phone number. Maybe they get the hint when they call that number. I think everyone should give them this number!

female called stating she was calling about the copier and needed the model numer and last four digits of the serial number. when I said she must have the wrong number she hung up.
 Jul 08th, 2010
They called yesterday, not about toner, but about a service manual. Still wanted to know the copier number. I knew it was a scam called but played along for a few minutes without providing additional information. This well spoken elderly female called from 213-537-1910. I recall telling her not to call me back. And then...

Just got another call from the nit-wit scammers from a "Restricted" number. I identified my company name (I own the business) listened to some babble about my business receiving the latest copy of their service manual. I listened for one minute then hung up without saying a word. I pity them if they call back.
 Jun 23rd, 2010
It's so easy to sniff out a telemarketer. Really, u need the model number of my copy machine to update your records? If I was already doing business with you, you'd have the model number!! Then you huff when i tell you i can't hear you, bye!

Been there. Got the call asking for the model and serial number. Told the lady she should already have the number. She hung up. Called me right back and said, "Can you hear me?" I said, "Yes." She asked again, "Can you hear me?" I said, "Yes, I can hear you." She said, "Good. F--- You!" and then hung up on me.

calling from this number asking about our photo copier.. She hang up when I said I don't have one.
 Apr 07th, 2010
John called and said he was my representative for my copier. He knew the brand name of my copier. He told me the copier toner was going up in price and asked if I wanted to order at the lesser price. He never once indicated he was with office support systems, only that he was my representative for my copier company and as I said, he knew my copier name.

Watch for them. They are excellent scammers.

Some lady called stating that my company is on the list to recieve a manual from her company the distribution outlet. So I asked her several times, "why do you need my copier model #?" She tells me because your company is on the list to rcv one. So I asked her "who made the call." You get the idea and on and on it went until she got pissed and hung up. lololol

Seems they are revising their phone call format because the old one is NOT yielding the results anymore.

They are just as bad as collection calls.

 Mar 12th, 2010
Call came in at 12:52pm and lasted only 11 seconds - When I answered, she said, 'This is Ashley from Customer Service for your copier'... we don't have a 'copier', just a few desktop multi-functions. I asked her which printer and she mumbled something and hung up! Too bad, I, too like to mess with these scammers and keep them on the phone for a while to slow them down!

I am very familiar with these type of scammers. They used to call the restaurants and try to send register tape and credit card machine ribbon...they don't care who they talk to either!

I really like this website, btw!

So unfortunately on a very busy day I fell for this. Someone called from "office support systems at Ikon" - Ikon being our service provider and asked for our equipment ID and said they were sending me a new toner cartridge. I thought it was weird but said ok. Received the cartridge, and just got a harassing call today asking for payment. I was confused because we have a service contract with Ikon - we never pay separately for toner. What should I do in this situation? I feel like a complete idiot, BUT - they called both times saying there were with Ikon, but then later in the call today the guy said they don't work with Ikon.
 Jan 29th, 2010
Received numerous calls from this number. They keep trying to say they need to provide us with service updates and get information on our copier. When I tell them I think it is simply a phone scam because we receive service and supplies from a local company, they become very rude.
 Jan 19th, 2010
Just got one of these calls AGAIN. Last time I told the gal my copier number was FU123. She got irate. I got sarcastic. She called back and wanted to talk to my boss about my insolent behavior. He laughed. I work for one lawyer in one office and we know the scam.
 Jan 08th, 2010
Just received a call. I know all about the copier scams so I like to play with them on the phone. Asked for my copier model number and I asked her which one. She said the one right next to you, any of them. I said you're going to have to be more specific we have a lot of them. She then got really upset and asked who she was speaking with, like she was going to ask for my supervisor or something, haha. I asked her who she was and she screamed at me "I already told you who I was!" I asked for her company name, since in the beginning all she said was she was with our copier company (how vague), and she hung up. I was hoping for a little bit longer on the phone to screw with them. How do you advertise for a job like that? "You can scream and cuss at people all day while trying to rip them off." Catchy.

Definitely do not give out your copier or supplier information. Your office equipment supplier knows exactly what you have, they don't need to ask you! These scammers called my office yesterday and posed as a rep from our office equipment supply company. He knew all the pertinent information (my name, the name of our supplier, the model of our copier, etc) and told me that a rep from Office Support Systems would be calling the following day to arrange shipment of our copier toner. Today, like clockwork, Office Support Systems called my office, asked for me by name, and asked for my fax number so that they could send order confirmation and told me that my toner would arrive via UPS in 3-5 business days. I received the fax, which looked ridiculously unprofessional, and raised a huge red flag (simple me, I was duped until this point). I called my copier company and inquired about how supplies are handled. Yeah. Our contract with them provides our copier toner for FREE and they send toner as they see we need it (they are able to pull usage reports from our copier). I promptly called Office Support Systems and cancelled the order, informing them that I would refuse any shipments from their company and to remove my office from their call list. I can't believe that companies like this are allowed to do "business". Horrible.
 Dec 15th, 2009
This guy called the business I work for claiming he is our service technician. He isn't. There are 5 people in our office and we personally know our copier service technician. He wanted the model # of our copier. I put him on eternal hold.

I got another call very similar one day (not sure if it was the same # but it was the same lie). I told him that he was not with our copier service company and he called me a dumb c**t and hung up.
 Nov 11th, 2009
Said it was Customers service. They wanted to check the screws and bolts and clean my copier. I don't have a contract with them. Kept telling the woman the same thing. No Contract. She hung up. These weird types of calls are happening very frequently now. That along with collection companies for people who don't even work for my business. I stopped answering calls with 000-000-0000 and Out of area. But, now they have numbers with the local area code that says Out of area. Its a never ending battle with these mickey mouse crooks and collections people.
 Nov 04th, 2009
Just got a call from these people insisting that we were about to "experience a 15% price increase on our copier supplies." The guy tried to tell me that he wanted to help me avoid it, and when I told him we didn't work or order products from their company (we have a contract with a legitimate office supply company), he gave me a line about how our orders are handled by our regional representative but he was calling from the warehouse that ships the supplies. When I continued to insist that we don't do any business with them and tried to press for more details about his company, he promptly hung up on me. Come on people, if I do all the ordering for my office, why in the world would I be dumb enough to not know who I order from?
 Oct 19th, 2009
Same story about updating our records. When I said we don't have a copier she said, "In a law office, good lie" and hung up on me. We're a paperless office - we scan and email. We print what we need to. The keep calling and hanging up now.
 Sep 25th, 2009
Got two calls from this number on 09-01-09 asking for the model number of our copier - claiming they were Office Supply Systems and they were at the warehouse where our records were kept and they needed to update the copy count from our machine in their records. When I did not give them any information, they hung up, but immediately called back, repeating their request verbatim, not caring that I was the same person they had just bothered with this call. The woman who called did state that they were our supplier, which they are not.
 Sep 01st, 2009
I just received my 5th call from this number in 2 days. She told me she is my copier supply company and needed to update their records. I have a copier supply company that I use and it is not them. The lady got ugly and tried to argue with me so I hung up the phone. She called back 2 more times trying to get me to give her all my info. She got very rude to me. I tried to call the number back and got a strange busy sound.

I have taught my staff to reply with some unknown model such as Mitsubishi 2200 and let them look. This gal however, called my employee a Bitch and when I tried to call the number back is says disconnected.

Direct Distribution asking for model numbers of our printers so they can send new 2010 owner's manuals out. I told them I was pretty sure that if we needed owner's manuals, we could ask the people we are conracted with. She said, "OK" and hung up
 Jul 10th, 2009
Same scam described in the other comments...some obnoxious guy called, said he was from office support and asked to verify my copier model number. I smelt a rat and told him we didn't have a copier (we have two). He rudely hung up the phone without saying anything. Telemarketing should be outlawed as it is an invasion of privacy and costs business valuable time...but then considering the revolving door system of justice in this country...nothing would really happen to them anyway. From the comments it appears that these guys have been performing their scam for years with no consequence.
 Jun 05th, 2009
This man kept calling back after I said no thank you. Calling me every name you could think of. Then I told my boss and forward the call to him. The caller got even ruder. Then he threaten to give our phone number to every list. But, hung up when asked for his supervisor.
 Apr 29th, 2009
a gal named Peggy call me today, said she was calling about my copies. When I questioined her if we did business with them she hung up.
I tried to call the number but it does not ring.

 Apr 24th, 2009
after we questioned the male caller as to why he wanted the info, he spouted off, your not intelligent enough to figure this out...then hung up
 Apr 21st, 2009
Woman called asking me to verify the model number of our copier (we don't have one). When I said, "NO, I can't". She asked if they was some reason why I couldn't get off my lazy ass?

I work front desk at a doctor's office and I got a phone call from these guys. We get calls from legitamite sales reps all the time and part of my duties is to speak with them. So as I usually do with sales reps, I asked them to call me back at a later time when I was less busy. Every day they called me back at the SAME exact time (while I was running around hectic). After a few times of me asking them if they can please call back at a later time so I can listen to them, I get a phone call from someone telling me about an amount that we owe!!!!! I told them I never called and ordered anything from them and that we are not interested. He apologized and told me he'd disregard our bill. Now months later, we are getting invoices from them saying we owe $800 some odd dollars for a TONER!! $800!!!!!! And it turns out, since we are such a busy office and pay bills all the time, we accidentally paid the first amount. THEY ARE SCAM ARTISTS!!!! We are reporting them to the police!
 Apr 16th, 2009
I get this call about every 2-3 months. They never get very far with me because it sounds like a telemarketing scam from the start. Someone calls saying they are from "Office Support" and they neeed my copier # to update their records or something.I ask them where they are calling from again, how exactly we are affiliated with them, and what exactly they have on record for us. This usually trips them up and I get my chance to say "Well then, we are no longer interested thanks bye" and hang up. Today, for the first time, he called right back started asking for my name (I didn't give it),said I was going to get fired, started cursing at me (called me the "c" word and a bunch or other stuff), when I said "excuse me" he said "what are you deaf and stupid",and then hung up again. I tried to call back but to no avail. After having a good laugh, I called my friend who works for a particular government agency to have her look into this number. When I found this page I was shocked that this is happening all over to so many people with the same scenario. Unbelievable! How have they been getting away with this for so long if they are using the same phone number?
 Apr 14th, 2009
I received a call at work from 213-537-1910 asking for the model number of our copier. The caller claimed she was from Office Support Systems in California. We get these calls at least twice a month, but typically there is no information on the caller ID. This is a common "Phoner Toner" scam where they try to get your copier model number and the name of someone who works in the office, and then ship supplies you did not order and an invoice. You can read more about this scam here:

Please, if you get these calls, report them to the FTC at this website:

Just received a call from this number from a woman who stated she was from our printing company. I said, "What is the name of your company?" She mumbled something that I didn't understand. I asked her to repeat the name of her company, and she said that she was from our printing company. She refused to give a name. I said, "We don't have a printing company." She hung up the phone. I tried calling the number and someone picked up the phone and hung up. This is a SCAM!

I HATE these people. Even if you hang up, they continue to call back.

So, I started telling them that the information that they need (I do not tell them that we even have a copier) is located at another location. I give them the local police department number for them to call.

A woman called asking for the part number of our copier. I couldn't understand the name of the place she was calling from, but she said it was the warehouse where our toner ships from. I immediately thought that was odd, because we always go through the same company, and this wasn't them. I gave her the number, and then she put me on hold. A guy came on the line and said he was helping with her computer, and did I mind if they were both on the phone? I said no. He told me the price of dry toner was going up from $498 each to $572 each, and since we had been skipped over on receiving that in writing, he was going to give us the lower price for the next 12 months. I thanked him, and he said it was the least he could do. He said he was going to send us our toner tomorrow (and he did have my address, minus suite number) with his business card so we could order directly from them from now on. We got off the phone and I immediately emailed my manager who told me that our toner comes with our lease, it's not valid, and to reject any shipment. They called back today and I wrote down the name, which was Supply Support Network, Shipping Department. I told them we hadn't ordered anything and that our toner is covered by our lease, and they said okay and hung up. I'm interested to see if they keep fishing, or try to send me anything. They aren't very good at what they do, because from the word go I felt like something was off. Having a blocked caller ID was also suspect for a business.

I took this from Hopefully it helps the people who have given information.

Protect Yourself

The FTC (Federal Trade Commission) reports that these scams cost legitimate toner vendors an estimated $100 million in retail sales; nearly double that for consumers and companies who were scammed. On the brighter side of things, the law has worked in favor of a few victims. In one particular case, the FTC helped award one company a $2 million dollar settlement against a group accused of the toner phoner scam.

If you or your company falls victim to the infamous phoner toner scam, you should immediately report this crime to the FTC. You can file a complaint by dialing this toll free number at: (877) FTC-HELP 877-382-4357), or filling out an online complaint form on the FTC website: You can also refer to their website for tips on how to protect yourself from the latest fraudulent practices including various telemarketing scams, identity theft and much more.

I get a call from a private number Asking the same question as everyone else. Nothing obscene, just a hang up when questioning where they are calling from, ive got them before. Ive tried everything i can to find out who it is and i assume its the same "company" here, so i blocked my number and tried to call the 213 #, and just got a switchboard of sorts (nothing but clicks) and almost immediately after hanging up, i got a call from a private number asking for a quote and wouldn't give specifics regarding location, when i put them on hold to get back w/ the price the line is still connected but no one was on the line, and i got the same clicks.
 Dec 12th, 2008
It's a scam. They say they are from your copier company and try to get you to order toner from them for ridiculous prices. Don't fall for it!

Let them call me back and be rude to me!!!!!!!!!!!! I tried to call the # that came up and at first it doesnt ring then u hear a weird beep then another beep then nothing!

All that was heard on the message left was "sh*t", the sound of something falling on the floor and then a fax machine.

called and said they (she) was calling about about the copier. I said "EXCUSE ME" she said "WHAT" and then hung up.
Tried to call back and I the phone rang and then beeped.

Same thing just happened to me. When I asked what company she was with, she hung up.
What would happen if we all just went ahead and ordered the toner, thousands of cartridges, and then let them ship it. We might then be able to find out who they are that way... never pay the bill of course and just let them try to sue!

When these criminals get someone to answer the phone they indicate they have the supplies for your copier or printer ready to ship and they want to confirm the model of your copier. If you tell them a model number they ship you supplies at several times the market price. They pray on small businesses like churches hoping someone who answers the phone will say ok to ship thinking someone else in the office ordered the items. I don't see how these people sleep an night!

Just received a call from a very unprofessional guy telling me i needed to give him the serial number of my copier in order for my warranty to be valid. I immediately asked him who he was with, since he mumbled it in the opening of his greeting. He mumbled it again and i replied with "i don't know who...." and he hung up on me. I *69'd and it gave me the number. Tried calling and it just beeps once and i get nothing after that.

These people make me so mad!! They say that they need to update their inforeation on "the copy machine" I ask which one, because, we have a few, and they say, the one closest to you! I asked why and they said to update their records, I asked who they were with and they hung up on me... They have called three times this week. I say next time they call, we give them a fake name address contact phone number and fake serial number!!! lol
It is obviously a scam! Too bad it doesn't work too well!! If someone can't tell you where they are calling from and why, then they aren't too good at what they do. If your not sure if it's a scam or not, ask for their business name telephone number and address and ask if you may call them back in a minute. Research the info. If the ph number doesn't match up with the address in yellow book online or white pages onlin, then they are full of it and don't call them back!

This is a scam to find out the make and model number of a printer so they can bill the person they call for toner. When I asked a few questions, the caller hung up.

Got *another* one of the "copier supply" calls today. Decided I would mess with him a bit. "Ralph" informed me that he was calling with the company we buy our copier supplies from. (Keep in mind, we buy them from a small, local shop.) They were sending out a new catalog and he needed to verify a few pieces of information to be sure that he was sending out the correct catalog to us. He wanted our copier make and model #.

I told him that he should already have that information if he was already supplying us with copier supplies. He said that he didn't and that's why he was calling.

I said, "That's because we don't buy supplies from YOU," to which he replied back (sternly) "Yes you DO."

I replied back, "No we don't. I'm the OWNER and I know where ..." but before I could finish he hung up.

We've gotten so many of these calls in the past, usually for the copier, but occasionally for office supplies and paid print advertising . I had already had a rotten morning and decided I would pass it along to this idiot on the other end of the line. Try it sometime, it's kind of fun! Made me feel a bit better!

Guy called saying he wanted to send out a copier brochure and he needed the model on the front of the copier, I new it was a sales call, so I proceeded to tell him we had no copier, he then said I was a MORAN and hung up. I called his number back to complain, but the number just beeped. This Telemarketer should be shut down!

Said he was with the "copier supply" division of our company -- which was a lie. Asked for callback number he gave me 800-235-1000. Asked him where he was located and he hung up on me. This is a toner sales scam.

Toner SCAM. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER give them you model number of your copier or fax. You'll end up with a large number of toner cartridges plus they'll send you a bill for them. I've known people that this has happened to. And to think these people get paid to try and rip people off.

Robert called from the Distribution Center and asked for the model # on our Konica Minolta copier. Because I knew our office manager had called earlier in the day to place an order for more cartridges, I thought they were following up on the order, didn't think twice about it. I gave him the model number and asked him what did we order. He became very confused with my question and then put me on hold. A Steve Jones got on the phone saying he was calling from the Supply Support Network and that the price of the cartridges has gone up to $600+ something odd dollars from $500 and which one did I want. I told him, we don't pay for cartridges here, we are under contract with Ameritech and they send everything out automatically. It's all covered under our contract. He then proceeded to say that it was a mistake and since we did not get a letter we did not have to worry. I told him to Ameritech next time, they handled our copier and that's when I figured something fishy was going on. I told him that, something fishy was going on and he said just a mistake and I hung up. I figured it was some sort of scam. I reverse phone look-up and no company came up I figured this is not right. They don't have to worry because we know that our copier people don't charge us for supplies at all.

We started receiving calls in 06/07 from this #. The usual scam of asking for the copier #. As I usually do, I say sure and put them on hold until they hang up hoping this will cost them money. Most scammers don't keep calling back, but these fools are relentless. They kept calling back and hanging up on me and then cussing me out. The names given have been Jim Wilson and Don Thompson. We filed a police report and called the annoyance call bureau with our phone company. Now, when they call I am to call the phone company and they will trace the #. I'm sure nothing will ever come of it, but I'm hoping someone can stop these jerks.

A telemarketer/scammer called identifying himself as Jim Wilson. A professional "How may I help you" inquiry resulted in "Bitchy today, aren't we. What's the matter? Didn't you get any f***ing d**k last night." I promptly hung up on the caller. He called back again a week later asking for me. Inasmcuh as i was unavailable he proceeded to verbally abuse another secretary in the office.
