This is a scam!!! Do not fall for them being the Faternal Order of Police in WA. THIS IS A SCAM...if you want to donate to the actual FOP then google Faternal Order of Police and donate through the website! If people say it is legit, then they are the scammers posting it!!!
FOP is a real thing, but these phone calls are SCAMMERS!!!

Its the Memorial Foundation its not a state thing. www.wafop.com assist officers or families who have had a traumatic experience in the field.

Have received the following calls:
04/15/09 from 206-682-0415, "FOP Memorial"--this is a Seattle Area Code
5/12/09 from 509-244-8705, "Police Memorial Fund"--this is a Spokane Area Code (see above)
05/21/09 from 206-866-1920 from "Police Memorial Fnd"--a Seattle Area Code
6/8/09 from 360-547-1900 from "Police Memorial Fund"--this is a California number
06/15/09 from 425-437-0640 from "FOP Mem Found"--a friend has a CA cell phone with this Area Code
06/22/09 from 253-275-36009 from "Police Mem Fnd"--I hung up on this caller; don't recognize the Area Code.
There has been recent activity in Spokane dedicating a police memorial but something odd is going on.
I am a former Spokane Police employee but have no idea why all these varied callers are contacting me.

I got a letter today from Washington State Lodge Fraternal Order of Police. The letter said that I "owed" them a donation of $15 which I had pledged by phone in April. I give nothing ever over the phone and have never given to this outfit. After a bit of arguing with the man, I asked if he represented a professional fund-raising company and he said that he did. I asked for a way to contact the WA state Lodge Fraternal Order of Police, thinking that it was a real organization. He gave me this web site address! Boy, I am glad that I found out that this is a huge scam. I think that it has been going on for years. Why doesn't the State Attorney General's Office investigate? This gives police a bad name which I don't like to see happening. They have hard enough jobs as it is without people running scams using organizations which sound like they are legitimate police organizations. Thanks to the person who found the real National organization.

Got call with caller ID "POLICE MEM FND" with different number, but also in WA state: 253-275-3600. When you get calls asking for charity donations you are entitled to ask the following questions -- It will be obvious by the way they answer (or don't answer) these questions whether or not they are reputable. :

1. What is your full name please? 2. What is the name of the charitable organization?. 3. Are you a representative of a commercial fundraiser? 4.If so, what is the name of the commercial fundraiser? 5. What is the principal place of business of the charitable organization? 6.(In Washington State) Can you give me the number of the Office of the Secretary of State Charities Program so I can validate your organization? (they are required by law to know and supply this number when asked - 1-800-332-4483). 7. Where would I mail a check if I decide to make a contribution?

You are entitled to take charge of such phone calls and ask whatever you think is appropriate. Don't let telephone solicitors control you! You can control them!!!

Wanted to make a correction from my previous post: I found the paper that I wrote the other phone number on (from when I was called in April for a solid week from these people). There were 2 different phone numbers, than what called today! The first one from the caller-id showed "FOP Mem Found" "206-682-0415" no message left; the second one from the caller-id showed "Police MEM Fnd" "206-866-1047" no message left. Oh, in April did an online search for the real thing, here's what I found: The official site for the Washington State Fraternal Order of Police. Here’s their information: 2527 W. Kennewick Ave., #207, Kennewick, WA 99336, Phone: 509-736-2079, Fax: 509-736-2396 and 800-644-7207, email: WashingtonStFOP@charter.net and their website: www. wafop.com/index.htm Hope this helps someone.

They started calling in mid-April. They called for 1 week straight, with 2 to 3 calls per day, as was listed on caller-id when I got home. Checked out phone number through this site, there were numerous of reports about that phone number and listed name. People stating a guy asking for "the woman of the house" and trying to get them to give him their 1st and last name, address, etc, to "donate", or if they refuse to give him their name or ANY info about themselves he hangs up; some even saying they had an unlisted phone number (like me) and how did he get their phone number. I haven't received a call from the "Police Mem Found" until today. Today, 5-22-09, received call, again no message left, and this time the last 4 digits of the phone number are different than when they called repeatedly in April, and the caller-id now shows "Police MEM FND", so who ever is running this scam is changing it up; watch out for this one. Btw, I checked online and found the real thing if u truly want to donate to an organization like this, it's called the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. Again, watch out for these phony scammers, make a complaint to ? who ? but someone.

They left no message, most likely some charity in the name of a Police deal like "help send a foster child to see a baseball game" or "Help your local police send a poor kid to summer camp." Hell, I never was sent to a summer camp or the like. I grew up poor. It's hard time, dude... you pay for it! OR... from the name, it may be a Police Memorial. They still should have left a message. Then I may consider some kind of momument for our local cops. Sure, but LEAVE ME A MESSAGE!

The problem I have with companies doing this collecting for a charity is the amount of the cut they get for calling me. I freak out when I have asked the man calling if they were indeed a Police Officer. If they tell me no, I tell them to not call again. It's like you donate 10.00, the fund gets 3.00. Not a cool way to raise money.
