Ah, now it's even worse. A flimsy survey with a sales purpose is a sales call per the Telemarketing Sales Rule. Such a call does not meet DNC exemption, and it's dirty pool besides. In previous months the same scam was run by the same bunch under shifting names -- "Political Opinions of America", "Political Survey Group", and "Independent Survey Group" being the recent masks.

I'd meant to write "autodialer" last time here. Darn keyboard must have wiggled ...

I am on the Do Not Call list. Received a call from this number with a promise of a "free vacation" for taking a survey. I pressed 1, hoping to get a live body. No such luck. I then pressed 0 repeatedly. It told me a few times, that I made an invalid selection, but eventually it disconnected me.

Same scam, different day. Wanting our credit card info. I hate Verizon and AT@T for not helping to stop these criminals.

Maybe where you live, Diana, ''Sunday morning phones calls are illegal''. The Telemarketing Sales Rule and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act say otherwise. What makes these calls much more broadly violative is when they reach numbers registered with federal and state ''no-call'' lists. What makes them illegal everywhere is the fact that canned sales calls are being delivered via sutodialer.

Started receiving calls like this one day after making a reservation off of Open Table. I only give out my number if it is required and it was required for my reservation. Not sure if their database has been compromised or if they are giving out the list. Just a bit annoying.

Did you stay at Yosemite or Reno, NV in July 2012? I started getting telemarketing calls after completing a phone survey for a Reno, NV hotel I stayed in. The telemarketing calls got worse after I received automated calls from Yosemite regarding the hantavirus outbreak during my stay. Was my phone number sold by the hotel's survey contractor or Yosemite (actually Deleware North Companies)?? Did this happen to you too?? Solution: Never take a phone survey. Never answer a number you don't recognize.

We've been getting tons of political calls, many from the same area code (DC). I didn't pick up but I'd be willing to bet it's another one. They left no message. They called at 9 AM on a Sunday morning. Real swell.

This is just the NEW number (SPOOFED to LOOK like it comes from Washington, DC) from the previous numbers which looked like they were coming from Oregon and Washington State and other places.

Numbers like:

971-208-9939
971-208-9963
425-390-8922
206-496-0957
206-496-0962
360-474-3942
321-745-9999

Of course, with the upcoming election, they are using (SPOOFING/FAKING) an area code and Caller ID ("District of Columbia" ) to make it look like they are legitimate political calls. They ARE NOT.

These calls are MOST LIKELY coming from OVERSEAS somewhere: Malaysia, Hong Kong, The Philippines, India, Pakistan, etc. "Exempt" from ALL American laws, especially the DNC List, although the OWNERS of this company are Americans who know EXACTLY what they are doing and that its CRIMINAL.

BEST to NEVER ANSWER and don't even let it go to voicemail or answering machine, if you can prevent it. Pick up/hang up immediately without answering OR press "Ignore" on your cell, if you have it, to disconnect the call and 'confuse' the robodialer. Helps cut down on number/frequency of the calls.

We got ONE call from this number tonight at 8:26PM; almost at the 9PM cut off time. We let this one go to answering machine, but in retrospect I should have known it was SPAM: there are NO LEGIT NUMBERS with a "0" as the middle number in the EXCHANGE (second set in the sequence), as it "805". Wish I taken my own advice and 'broken' the call.
Caller: "District of Columbia" on CALLER ID
