The phone is ringing, and I don't recognize the number,
All Caller ID says is, "NAME UNAVAILABLE".
Please help me figure out who is calling and what they want

Senior Medical Alert. I didn't answer. After reporting to Do Not Call, I returned the call. A young woman answered saying, "Senior Medical Alert". She SAID she would remove me from the calling list.
HOME SECURITY. No message.
Called them back. A woman answered who claims to be Debbie McGee asking for donations for the Fraternal Order of Police, GA state lodge. To buy some equipment and they'll send me some thank you gifts. Could be and probably is legitimate but they had a very old name/phone number list.
CUSTOMER SUPPOR. Did not leave a message. Called on 10-29-12.
CARD SERVICES. It's started again ..... Time to use fcc.gov since we KNOW Do Not Call is a joke - although I'll report them there too.
WDW CELLULAR. Thanks Charlie for the tip about DECT phones. Also, we all know Do Not Call is a joke. They even say that they do nothing proactively. However, you CAN file a real complaint at fcc.gov
NSPIRE. I used to tolerate these folks and even gave but I am out of patience. They call at least once a day for at least TWO WEEKS when my number pops up on their list. I too find the NO MESSAGE, annoying, untimely calls just too much. Today's call was at 8:30am. Yesterday's was at 10pm.
"Customer Care." Did not leave a message. This is the second or third time this number has called. Someone else said this is a telemarketer for an alarm system.
Card Services strikes again.
Card Services. "Your eligibility expires shortly so please ???????garbled???. Press the number 3 to discontinue further notices. Or press the number 1 on your phone to speak to a live operator and lower your interest rate. Thank you and have a great day." Very fast speaking female voice recorded message. Has to be a scam. Atlanta, GA area. OH, BTW Anonymous, I already DID complain to my Representative. I got a form letter back that, of course, did not address anything I had written. We all know only some aide (if that) looks at the mail, but at least they could try to make the form letter sound as if they care a smidgen. Elections in November....
Service Dept. "We will install a new security system at absolutely no cost to you whatsoever... To be placed on our do not call list, press 9." A scam, of course. Atlanta, GA area.
Caller ID said 2532362009. There was no message. I suspect another phone number used by same scammers calling me recently. Either "lower your interest rate" or "get a free home security system." Atlanta, GA area.
Chase Bank. This is (also) the number that calls you with a security code if you want to sign in to their site and you don't have your computer "remembered" with them.
"Card Services" didn't leave a message. Suspect another scammer - or the same one using a different number! :-) Atlanta, GA area.
"Phone Services." Didn't leave a message. Atlanta, GA area.
I have no idea who called. I don't believe there was a message. When I called back, it said it was "Thank you for calling Bank of America home loan services. Please be advised, we are a debt collector. This call may be recorded for quality assurance purposes." Sounded legit, but I know that is untrue unless they have my number by accident or mis-dialed. Atlanta, GA area.
Caller ID said Financial Ctr. Financial center my @&&! Called 8-3-12, didn't leave a message. But I think this is one of many phone number they're using to scam people out of credit card numbers and their money. Report to DNC. Atlanta, GA area.
Didn't answer. Caller ID said Out of area. Left no message. So I called back. Got jazzy music for about 30 seconds then a male voice. "Hello, there is no one here to take your call. If you'd like to be added to the do not call list, please leave your number after the tone." I don't THINK so! Although they may have it since I called them. Going to report to DNC anyway. Atlanta, GA area.
Recorded message. AGAIN. "I am able to hit the ground running... A vote for Greg Lundy is a vote an effective and efficient judge." For Mom, the flag and apple pie. And if he were that efficient, he'd realize he'd already left me two calls! Are we allowed to vote for none of the above? :-)
Recorded message from Tracy Mason Bloggie or Blase. She is outraged over the smear campaign of her rival and wants my vote tomorrow for judge. Why have I never heard of any of these people until election time - and then I hear WAY TOO MUCH! Atlanta, GA area.
ANOTHER political call. July 27, 2012. Atlanta, GA area.
Citizens for tr(ansportation) called AGAIN on 7-26-12. Political call. Atlanta, GA area.
Again, a political call on 7-27-12. Do they pass these numbers around???? Atlanta, GA area.
Reid, M called again July 28 for my vote on July 31. Thrice is a charm! and two too many calls. Atlanta, GA area.
Hope House called again today from this number. Did not leave a message. Atlanta, GA area.
Some woman's voice on a recorded message saying I should vote with her (tomorrow) for Jace Brooks for some office because she has worked with him. Too bad she didn't identify herself. :-) Political call. Atlanta, GA area.
McClurg or McClure for Superior court judge. Political call. Left an automated voice recording saying he wanted to talk to me personally to ask for my vote tomorrow. Did offer a phone number to call if I wanted to talk to him. Atlanta, GA area.
Citizens for tr. I am SO TIRED of getting these "vote for the t-SPLOT tax" calls. Since they left a recorded message, no one else must be reporting. Or maybe they're only calling ME. :-) Atlanta, GA area.
Call was a recorded message asking for a no vote for an incumbent judge. Caller ID was Out of Area. Atlanta, GA area. 7-24-12
Greg Lundy, attorney, asking for vote as state court judge. Poorly recorded message. He can "hit the ground running". I just bet he can. Political calls abound from people I've never heard of before just before an election. They sure want to get to know ME ---- just before elections. Atlanta, GA area. 2012-07-23
Nspire calling - again. IS a charity and MAY be legitimate. :-) Atlanta, GA area.
Out of Area. Called twice in a row. The second time was a recorded, political message to elected Jace Brooks for district county commissioner. Elections are at the end of the month! Atlanta, GA area.
As if one call wasn't enough. Citizens For TR. Political call. Left recorded message. Maybe I should STOP voting. Doesn't seem to do any good and only gets me on jury duty. :-} Atlanta, GA area.
This call was from "EXCHGE STUDENT". Basically a young female voice recorded message asking household to host a HIGH SCHOOL foreign student. Press this to speak to someone, press the other to be taken off our calling list. I suspect a big-time scam. Who in the world would send a teenager to address/person unknown!? What better way to find out who lives where and probably their economic standing!? I have not signed up with any school, church, charity, embassy .... Reporting to DNC for what it's worth. Atlanta, GA area.
My mistake! Typo 5635. Should have been 5636!
Vote July 31 for Chris McClure for judge. Left a recorded message. Atlanta, GA area.
Getting a bit tired of this even though I know the squeeky wheel gets greased. Atlanta, GA area.
This call was to ask for my vote on July 31, 2012 to vote FOR the $0.01 sales tax increase to "unsnarl Atlanta's traffic". Oh, please. Well, at least it looked like a local call. Unlike 909-502-2309. Who would be surprised that political calls don't have to comply to the Federal Do Not Call list? Atlanta, GA area.
Actually, I lied. This was a plea to vote YES to a $0.01 ADDITIONAL tax hike to "unsnarl our traffic". Well, I say ex-Gov. Perdue brought this on all by himself when he high-handedly decided to extend the toll road's lifetime, GA 400, indefinately when the toll was supposed to lapse 2 years ago. Get this. The $0.50 toll was to expire and Gov. Perdue said, "WE (the State of GA) need this money." And will you, nill you, the tax THE VOTERS voted in that had a date certain to expire goes on. Gosh. Wish > could do that! (and BTW, the new Governor, Nathan Deal, says he will expire the toll in December 2013. "That's the soonest the legislature can do this. We're working with government.") Or words similar. Amazing. Just had to get this off my chest. I could go on!! .....
Well, at least GA is having voting going on at the end of the month. So I expect even more than the 3 calls I received on 7-17-12. This was a "vote for ..." OOPS! I accidentally hit the erase button! My so bad! :-) Atlanta, GA area.
Also did not answer this call, and also received July 17. Left part of an automated message to lower my interest rate (on what?). Press this to be taken off our phone list, press something else to speak to an operator. Ooohhhh. Sounds familiar. Atlanta, GA area.
Received this call 7-17-12 as an Amber alert for a dog missing in the neighbor. It showed my neighbor's name, the date the dog went missing, a description of the dog, and a number to call if the dog was spotted. Rather neat. Atlanta, GA area.
Actually received this call on TODAY, 7-16-12. (I'm starting to wonder if this reporting site isn't located in the Bahamas or Cuba! :-) ) A small snippet of voicemail left something like "...vote July 31. Press 1 for no, press 2 for yes." So MAYBE it is actually a poll. Who knows? Atlanta, GA area.
Automated political call to vote for Greg Lundy for Judge. Again. Atlanta, GA area.
May be a private caller but I'm guessing it's a political call. 7-16-12. Atlanta, GA area.
July 16, 2012 and last week also. A political, automated, vote for my candidate, call. Atlanta, GA area. Vote Matt Reid. He'll solve all our problems as Public Service Commissioner. Well, at least it left a message and an appropriate caller ID. Maybe I WILL vote for him - if he doesn't call me again and again! Atlanta, GA area.
NSPIRE is a charity. Yes, they all a lot, then leave you alone for a while. I don't think I've ever had a call after 9pm. Atlanta, GA area.
Received second call today, 7-16-12 (why does today's date by my name say 2012-07-17?). This time the caller ID said "Public Safety" - original call was "Private Caller". So you KNOW these folks have to be honest, right? :-) Didn't answer either call, both reported to DNC. Atlanta, GA area.
Must be a scam. If it were a true charity, 1. the caller ID wouldn't be "Private Caller". 2. They would PROBABLY have left a message. For what it's worth, will report to Federal do not call registry. Atlanta, GA area.
This time is for another politician. Judge I think. (BTW, where do JUDGES get off campaigning!?!) But it looks like this is a rent-a-number for political calls. 7-13-12. Atlanta, GA area.
Interesting to read all the comments on this number. It is indeed PSI - a subcontractor? of USAA - and they call me every year. Sometimes they leave a message, sometimes not. For over 10 years now. USAA always sends a letter the week before the calls come. I always answer their questions. USAA usually has to send me a 'reminder' postcard - just like the one sitting in front of me now. (which, interestingly enough, has a pre-printed postmark of 08042012.) "We continually work to ensure the accuracy of our member records." Well, that's fine. But I've never had this work to my detriment or favor. So just why should I keep their records accurate? Will it help if my house burns down or my car is in an accident? What if I die or my investments go south? I truly don't know the answer. Will they deny any claim since I didn't answer their survey? Will they raise/lower my rates if I do? I only ask/wonder because starting last year, PSI did ask employment questions for which I didn't see any good reason.
AND, totally off subject, Consumer Reports used to rate USAA as a top insurance provider with a nearly 100% approval rating. However, they also said this MAY BE DUE to military personnel not having (overly?) high expectations. Now-a-days, they still rate USAA highly, but they leave that phrase out. What does that say about either company?
These folks, whose caller ID is usually Ind Sur Group, have LOTS of different numbers. They claim to be, but are not, a political survey. Also use area codes 425 and 360, and 503. July 5. Atlanta, GA area.
Fake survey to get your info and maybe "win a cruise from one of our sponsors." 425-390-8930, Ind Sur Group, 6-29-12. Reported to DNC, but as another commenter says, the FAQ states that nothing is actually being done about these calls, we only report to help other government agencies prosecute. Sigh. FAQ = ftc.gov See my comments for other numbers these people use. Atlanta, GA area.
I keep getting these calls from 360-xxx-xxxx, this one is 360-322-6030 as "out of area" on June 26. Every one I have answered has been a scam. The name is usually reported as Ind Sur Group although sometimes it comes up as a mis-spelling of that or as "unknown" or "out of area". It's a fake survey to "win a cruise from our sponsor". It's may actually be a way for you to part with your private data and MAYBE buy a cruise - I don't know, I never get that far - but others' report it so. NEVER give your personal information to ANYONE over the phone! You do NOT know who is on the other end! Other numbers I've reported include:
425-390-8930 on June 29 as Ind Sur Group
360-460-1844 on June 28
360-461-4559 on June 20,
360-474-3936 on 6-18-2012,
425-390-8919 on June 14,
206-496-0953 on June 11,
360-474-3915 on June 7,
503-457-1368 as Ind Sur Groiup on June 4, and
206-496-0946 as Ind Sr Group on May 31.
978-570-2336 on June 27, "out of area." I see it used to be used as a political line, then was spoofed, so I have no idea who called. However, it occured sandwiched between calls from "Ind Sur Group", a scam survey to either get your private info or to sell you a cruise, so I'm guessing it's them. They use a LOT of different numbers and area codes! Atlanta, GA area
Called 6-20-2012. I believe they are going under the name of "Ind Sur Group", pretending to be a survey so they can skirt the law. See my comments for other numbers they use. This one at least is using dialing software because they number they called is not registered anywhere. They call repeatedly, in waves, using various numbers. Atlanta, GA area.
Called my cell - a number no one has but family - so we all know they're using dialing software. I can't report them to DNC - cell's not listed. :-) I think this must be the same fake "Independent Survey Group" that is plagueing others from many, many different phone numbers. See my other comments. Atlanta, GA area.
360-474-3936 on 6-18-2012, 425-390-8919 on June 14, 206-496-0953 on June 11, 360-474-3915 on June 7, 503-457-1368 as Ind Sur Groiup on June 4, and 206-496-0946 as Ind Sr Group on May 31. There were more prior to that but I'd already erased them. It is NOT a survey, it is an attempt to sell you a cruise. It starts with a teaser recorded message that you can win a cruise from one of their sponsors if you just take a survey. Press one to talk, press nine to be removed from the calling list. They obviously got the message wrong - it should be "press 9 to get ON to our SUCKER list." Atlanta, GA area.
Lower Interest. I'm sure I've had this call before. Reporting to DNC.
425-390-8919 on June 14, 206-496-0953 on June 11, 360-474-3915 on June 7, 503-457-1368 as Ind Sur Groiup on June 4, and 206-496-0946 as Ind Sr Group on May 31. Received call from "Hope House" May 29. Of course, using dialing software so no one was on the line when I picked up. There are non-profits registered in GA under this name, but I have no idea if this call came from any one of them. Did not report them to Federal do not call because they may actually be a charity. Atlanta, GA area
Received May 27, HamiltonFamily7. Did not answer.
Received a call from 'GEORGIA' May 24. Don't know who it actually belongs to. Atlanta, GA area.
BTW, read somewhere to use *57 to trace calls to have them blocked. That is not true. *57 is a pay per use feature. It is only supposed to be used for threatening or abusive calls and you must fill out paperwork and report the call to the police.
I always assumed it was a true charity and they call all the time. I have donated in the past, but the calls are relentless until you answer. I have asked to be removed from their calling list. They said they would but....it hasn't happened yet. I've never receive a call at an inappropriate hour.
After looking on a search engine I see more complaints than praise. I tried calling back. I did get a voice mailbox but didn't leave a message. So I don't know. I did look them up on the Secretary of State's site. They are registered as a non-profit and have been since 1998. Elsewhere there was one complaint of exploitation of the homeless in 2010 - repeated on two sites - but that's all. Atlanta, GA area.
I believe this is a true research group. I did answer after receiving many calls over several weeks. A nice young lady asked for 5-7 minutes of my time to answer a survey about newspaper usage. Her first question was to ask what county I live in. After I told her, she said the quota for that country was complete. Thanked me for my time and rang off.
So, I don't know. Unless they're trying to associate counties with phone numbers for who-knows-what I think it's legit. If it IS legit, we have no recourse. POLITICAL CALLS, CHARITY CALLS, AND SURVEY/RESEARCH CALLS are exempt from the Federal Do Not Call list. But you can report them anyway just in case. :-) Portland, OR IS suspicious. Atlanta, GA area.
This is NOT a survey group. The recorded message says you will win a cruise if you answer the survey. But it is simply a spoof to sell you a cruise. This "group" is using LOTS of numbers - I wish I would remember to sign in when I report these so I'd have a list! Reported - several times - to Federal do not call. Atlanta, GA area.
sigh
Looks to me that any call from 253-382-9xxx is from "Service Dept". Reported to Federal do not call. Atlanta, GA area.
BTW, it just occurred to me. Two hours after I got these two calls, I received one from 989-726-4693. The automated message was for free home security from GE Security Systems. Since I normally go weeks without receiving any nuisance calls ....
Called twice more - both times in the morning on May 2.
Automated male voice. "...your GE security system at absolutely no cost to you whatsoever. There is no cost for the system or the installation whatsoever. To hear more, press 1 now. To be placed on our do not call list press 9." Well, I'm already on the Federal Do Not Call list - the "please do not call these people - although, if you do, it's ok" list. Heavy sigh.
No idea if the call really is from GE.
Call blocking is a good idea, but often these numbers are just spoofed so you won't get a call from them again. Hopefully.
Atlanta.
Bank Card Srvcs. Recorded message "...it changes before the next billing cycle. Again, this is your final notice" [devoutly to be wished!] "as it relates to the financial stimulus. So press one now to take advantage of this today."
As with all of you, keep getting call after call from this and other numbers with this caller ID. Thanks Who Called and Why for all the information. I've done the "paperwork" on the ftc site but it sometimes seems like a waste of time. And I usually report to DNC for all the good that does. But, when I get mad enough ....
And, for those of you who asked, you can use your computer to get calls and/or block area codes as someone else said.
Or buy a wireless phone that you can assign ring tones to (like 1 for family number, 2 for other phone numbers of people I KNOW, 3 for pests, none for all those other guys .... :-) ). Some phones (Panasonic) also have stems that flash colors and you can assign different colors to numbers in your phone book. (green for family, yellow for friends, red for pests, no color for phone numbers that aren't in the phone's book - easy to see at a glance if you want to get up to answer!). OR NEVER answer the phone - screen your calls by listening for messages or reading the caller ID. If it's someone that WANTS to talk to you, they'll leave a message. And answering machines are VERY inexpensive - you can often get them at a thrift store.
