The usual free, wireless home security system scam robocall. If they were legit, they wouldn't be violating the Do Not Call law.

Robocall (illegal) trying to push a home security system. Pressed 2 to be removed and had nothing but silence and eventual hang-up. Called the number back and a recording immediately picks up and says to push any number to be removed. Same thing - silence & hang up, no confirmation.

Called around 1:20 p.m. when I was preparing to leave the house. I noted the caller ID had an unfamiliar area code and said "Security" so I didn't pick up. The machine did - it rang the 6 times - but then evidently hung up half-way through the message so I suspect this is a rip-off type call.

Did not recognize phone number and don't know anyone in Rhode Island so i didn't pick up, seems to be another telemarketer based on reports from others. being on the DoNotCall registry and reporting these guys to the FTC and FCC doesn't seem to help.

August 28th, 2013 Rose PA

I was actually home. I try to pick up so I can get my number removed. I pressed #1 to talk to someone so I can tell them to remove my number. #2 was that option, but I'm sure I have already tried that. When I got a woman on the phone, I asked to be removed and she said sure and HUNG UP ON ME! And you try to call back and get a busy signal!

August 28th, 2013 USNSPARKS TN

Why do people think if the phone rings they must answer it? You have
CID, USE IT! Do you let anyone coming to your door into your home? Of
course not. Wake up people, these are crooks, DO NOT ANSWER when they
call you! They manipulate the CID system so the info is probably fake.
If for some insane reason you must answer it's too late! Soon as you
answer you've told them your number is valid. They sell this info to
other scammers. Pushing a # to 'remove yourself from their list' does
absolutely NOTHING for you. Do NOT call them back!
Stop these calls with Phone Tray Pro - www.phonetray.com
The phone block system the phone company charges you for does NOT
block all the calls Phone Tray Pro does. I have NO connection with
Phone Tray Pro, I am simply an EXTREMELY happy customer. Best money
I have ever spent! DIGITONE ($100)(Only blocks 80 #s), TELE ZAPPER,
PRO CALL BLOCKER ($50), CALL BLOCKERs Amazon.com sell etc
don't do nearly what Phone Tray Pro does and cost a LOT more! Don't
waste your money on these worthless gadgets. As of 08/28/13 I have
205 #'s, 12 Wild Card #'s and 18 CID names on my PTP Black List that
will never get through again. The DNC doesn't affect scammers.
Don't be so naive. You can report them to the FTC but honestly when
was the last time the federal government ever did anything for you?
Oh I forgot, Obamacare. Speaking of scams!

August 28th, 2013 Jim GA

Got a call from 4015621453 Warwick, RI. We get calls every day from telemarketers and other scam artist and the do not call list does nothing to stop them. What else can you do to stop these SOB's from calling?

As ''W'' suggested, being unlisted does not hide your phone from a sequential dialer. No one with that gadget needs to ''have'' your number. It merely tries every number in creation by rapid brute force. Possibly numbers are flagged for retry according to the response.

I have an unlisted cell phone number, how the hell did they even get it? Ugh, I thought I'd be safe from scams and telemarketers with a cell phone. guess I was wrong. Btw, they were telling me I "won" two tickets to the Bahamas if i pressed 1 on my cell.

Called my unlisted and screened work phone with their stupid message, so they must be using an illegal random dialer. Put it on speaker and wasted their phone-line time until their machine gave up. Pure rip-off. Anyhow, I have been to the Bahamas - and you would have to pay me a great deal to go back (also a pure rip-off). Can we hunt them down and put them into a public pillory?

They called me a few minutes ago. Heard an automated voice saying my credit card balance is payed in full. I just hung up. Not a good idea to stay on the line with people like these. Probably even a better idea not to answer the call, but if you do, just hang up on them, it's not worth it.

August 3rd, 2009 ValdisB

Just received a phone call from this number at my office. Same as Lill below, "a recording saying it was cardholder services and I could lower the interest rate on my credit cards but this was the last notice. Press 1 if you want to lower your rates." Annoyed that I'm getting a telemarketing call at my office, I pressed 1 and spoke VERY briefly to a woman who did not immediately give me her name. She asked if I was responding to the "lower interest rate" offer. I answered yes. Then she asked if I had more than $3,000 in credit card debt. When I answered no, she said, thank you, and hung up on me. Total conversation time; 6 seconds. They will continue to call people regardless of the law until they are stopped.

(808) 783-9321

July 2nd, 2009 Get even IN

I have learned how to deal with these calls. Reporting the number that is on your Caller ID to the FED or your state’s Attorney General does no good because it is usually either a forged number or it is a number that can not be associated with the caller, and therefore cannot be used to identify the real caller.

You need to get a REAL number that can absolutely identify the caller in order for the FED or your state Attorney General to be able to sue the real culprit. The only way to get that real number is to talk to the caller and turn the tables on him!

When you get this type of call feign interest. That means that if the recorded message asks you to press 9 then go ahead and press 9 to talk to a live person. While they give you their pitch, keep feigning interest. Sound excited that you may be able to have your interest rate reduced. Keep them talking. If they ask you a question, answer it, but don't answer it truthfully (and NEVER give them your Credit Card number or anything else that is real).

After a couple minutes you will have them hooked. That is when you have to go to the bathroom, or check the oven, etc. Ask them if you can call them back in a few minutes and get a phone number from them. Chances are they will give you a real number (and their name). Call that number back a minute or two later and ask for the person that you were speaking to. Talk to them just long enough to ensure that you are talking to the same person and that the same conversation is being continued. At that point, tell them that you are on the Do Not Call List and that you want to be placed on their own internal DO NOT CALL list. Also, let them know that you now have a valid phone number to report to your state of the FED.

I did this a month ago after receiving dozens of calls offering me to reduce my interest rate. When I asked if I could call back I got the number ‘1-866-942-6441’ along with the company name ‘Sapphire Financial’. I called back a minute later and spoke to the same person and the conversation picked up where it left off.

I was able to report all this to my State’s Attorney General and because they have a verified bonafide phone number, the AG can sue the company, which they are in the process of doing so now. Now when they call (and they continue to call) I feign interest so that I can get a verified, bonafide number that can be used to SCREW them both legally and royally 

Until you can get a verified bonafide number, there is nothing that you can do. If you can get a verified, bonafide number, the FED or your state’s Attorney General can do something,

By the way….If you do feign interest and they don’t give you a number when you ask….just tell them that you will just call 1-866-942-6441 and ask to speak Jennifer Sallies instead. More than likely they will be calling for Sapphire Financials and hearing their real number and the owner’s name will really BLOW their mind.

Have some fun at these jerks expense rather than getting aggravated 

Offered to lower interest rate on my existing credit cards.
I talked "Chris Johnson" past verifying my name. He wouldn't give me his phone number (obviously didn't know) but said it should be on my caller ID. He also stated that the phone number did not take inbound calls unless I become a customer, so I couldn't call him back.
I got him to agree that he would not ask for my personal financial information over the phone on a call that I didn't initiate.
After about 10 minutes, he asked me a credit card number in good standing so that he could verify my eligibility for their program.
He assured me that he wasn't charging my card, just checking my balance and last payment.
Of course I refused. He said that consumer protection laws cover me against unauthorized charges. I still refused.
He said that I obviously was not interested in lowering my credit card rates.
I said that I wasn't interested in being scammed. He hung up.

Same happened to me Today. Apparently these guys don't respect the "do not call" list.
I'm going to file a complain.

May 19th, 2009 whole team

They called a team # (rang at many desks). I have asked them to remove us before, they call regarding free cruise, and now to lower interest rates. Since I asked them to remove the numbers before, I don't believe they can call, but when I try to register a complaint at the dnc govt site I lock up. Nice.

May 18th, 2009 Lill

Answered the phone and had a recording saying it was cardholder services and I could lower the interest rate on my credit cards but this was the last notice. Press 1 if you want to lower your rates. I get the same recording at least 15 to 20 times a week. So I press 1 and a man came on the line asking if I wanted to lower my rates and I told him to stop calling, this is a business and I was tired of them calling. He started arguing with me that they have never called before. When I told him I was tired of this, he hung up.

If you take a few minutes to search on the Net about this topic, you can quickly realize that the Credit Card scam related to gifts and/or low interest rate offers has been going on since at least, 2003. I've read enough on this subject to come to the conclusion that these call centers (wherever they are located in the world) operate without any fear of being caught. They cause hundred of thousand dollars losses daily to the credit card companies and guess what? The credit card companies pass their losses to the users who are…you and me. As of today, these pirate call centers are still operating in full force across North America. They have found the loophole for escaping from FBI and RCMP. The typical “model citizen” usually reports the fraud to the attorney or local police. I have news for you. You can file as many complains as you want to the authorities, they just can’t catch them! You can threaten of reporting their annoying calls to the phone companies, you can swear, being rude, vulgar with them – They are the ones controlling the game. They just hang up (laughing) until they receive a call from the next gullible person (and the wheel keeps turning). Whatever you do or say, you won’t be taken off their automated calling list. The heads of these scam acts like a computer virus. They are very much up to date with the changing law enforcement techniques and like a moving target, they disappear in the field. You can find numerous blogs and discussion forums related to this scam (this one is one of them). For every thread on the Net that exposes their illegal activities, they have members posting a message denying complains of people who got ripped off. They introduce contradicting information in blogs in order to confuse people who are unsure about the legitimacy of their offers. They have fake web sites, fake names, fake addresses, etc. Based on these facts, I think the only thing that can be done is to interfere with their practices. How can this be done? By “putting a stick in their wheel", hitting the weakest spot – their need to grab personal information from you. I’ve been practicing for quite a few times now and you’d be impressed by how patient they become when they feel that they have you as a fish on their hook. Again, the only power you have over them is to spend as much time as you can to waste THEIR time. This time you spend with them is time that they can’t use for screwing other people. I've learned a lot from reading in threads on the Net. Here is what I started doing: the principle is to play the game of being interested by their offer, providing fake information, pretending, acting, and creating delays. I hear you say that you don’t know how to reach them because whenever they call you because your call I.D. shows: 123-456-7890 (or any other spoofed phone i.d.). Didn’t I tell you they were smart? Here are a few numbers that still work as of today: 1 800-501-0100 (to reach the vacation trip scam) | 1 888-786-6201 or 1 800 943-3250 or 1 800-961-9830 (to reach the MCS credit card interest rate scam). If you need more numbers you can with a little effort “google” the name of the organization along with in the search field and it should pull more numbers to call to. Finally, here is my recipe for a great "obstruction" session upon these scammers: 1) take a hands free phone (portable is even better as you can still conduct you home activities) 2) get them to go through their entire sales pitch by encouraging and acknowledging every once in a while 3) make it last as long as your time permits (they are the one assuming the charges of the “1-800” communication). 4) When you feel that they suspect your “game” (or when you’re bored whichever comes first), find a nice and polite way to tell them that they've just wasted 15-20 minutes (sometimes more) of their precious time stealing other gullible people. I guarantee you that you will get some reaction at the other end of the line. Give them a ride and flood their phone lines! Make their life as miserable as they do to us. HEARING THEIR FRUSTRATION IS A GREAT REWARD AND PURE PLEASURE. Don’t be intimidated if they threaten you of anything, they are totally harmless.

It is a violation of the FTC Telecommunications Act of 1996 for anyone to call a cell phone using an automated dialer. This includes outbound IVR, Predictive Dialers, and Auto Dialers (Outbound IVR was used in this case by Answer Solutions/Householdsurvey.com on behalf of their client Regal Empress/Imperial Majesty Cruise Line). Any company that violates this act owes $500 PER NUMBER CALLED. That's right, this company now owes you $500 minumum if they called your cell phone(and a big fine of $500 per cell number that they have ever called). In order to collect you need a recording of the call (use a handheld digital recorder and save the file) the date/time of the call, and the number they reached you at (your cell phone in this case). You will need to have legal papers drawn up (or google the right form language and send it along with a letter of intent to file against them to Answer Solutions along with a copy of the recording). An enterprising attorney could file a class action suit and wipe out both Answer Solutions and the Regal Empress (plus make great money for themselves in the process)

Note that the Act I mentioned would allow them to hand dial cell phone numbers but that is not the case here. If they called you on your land line you are out of luck.

I just had the same experience as described below, 30 minutes ago: horn blowing, Captain speaking, 2 free passes to the Bahamas, answering 10 questions, gave my name and postal no., and the website householdsurvey.com to confirm my reward. Of course, after going through the website for 15 minutes, I realized that I was scammed. Just a trick for people to check their website, I suppose. That's why they didn't ask for info that's too sensitive. I also noticed that there's nowhere on the website where we can actually gave the visitor their contact info--no phone number, no email address! That means, they don't want anyone to find them or to bother them! The only difference I have than the rest of the people before me was that the phone number that showed up on my caller ID was 1-808-371-0359. I haven't called that no. back cause I don't want to be charged for it. Who do we report to anyway?

They ask 10 questions and then live person came to phone asking what names i wanted to read on the ticket and ask for zip code and confirm my phone number. He then directed me to website www.householdsurvey.com. Then it followed by another recording.

They did not ask for anything legal such as bank accounts or social security number or birthdate, so it did not worry me so much but it was strange call.

The web site exists. It does NOT load a Trojan on your computer. These scams are bad enough without alarmists making them worse. I bet you pass on every alarming scam email too.

Just hang up and put your number in the Do Not Call Registry. If that fails, just HANG UP. No one is forcing you to stay on the line, and for the person asking if they should be worried, yes, yes you should be. Telemarketing scam artists will come to your home, throw survey wrapped stones through your window and refuse to leave until you fill them out.

"Just tell us who your long distance carrier is and no one gets hurt".

You should be worried about blatantly showing your stupid side in public.
