Corey: Verbal demands don't work on a known lawbreaker like EOS. Get off the phone and get on a paper trail. USPS Certified is your friend.

Foul language violates the FDCPA, and that call came ten minutes too late if you're a US resident. Consider a lawsuit if you have solid violations and kept good records.

about "Joshua X" and some kind of debt concern. We do not know a
Joshua and no-one in our family has ever had a student loan. We
have no idea why they called us. We have no plans to pick up the

This number left a voice mail claiming to be from a collection agency. I forwarded their number to the FCC in Washington, DC. Sure would like to see the look on their face. If they use another number and call me again, I will forward it to the FBI in Washington. I have plenty of numbers I can send them to and being retired I have plenty of spare time.

Whenever i receive a call from a number I do not know, I always answer it with Bureau of Investigation, special agent speaking.... after some pause they typically say excuse me, i dialed the wrong number, or never say a word and hang up... However, if they do ask for a specific person, i repeate Bureau of investigation..How may i help you? They typically hang up never to call again..

Yep, this is a call from UPS Marketing to do a followup survey after you recently signed up for a shipper account. It's not a DNC violation, so cut them some slack.

This is a legitimate business trying to reach out to its newly-signed-up customers. Don't lump them into the same boat with Rachel or that asshole calling about FBI statistics and wanting to sell you a security system. If you answer the phone and (politely!) tell them you'd rather not do the survey and don't want any more calls, they should comply.

I went ahead and answered their call today - I usually don't pick up on numbers I don't recognize - and talked to the woman at the other end.

I told her about the amount of frustration I've been reading on the various sites that come up when you google the number. She said they've been hearing about about the negative comments and have been passing that feedback upstream to... well, you know... wherever that goes.

The lady was very pleasant, and after taking my comments she proceeded to ask me a few questions about how much I planned to ship and whether I also used competitors. She finished by asking if a sales person could contact me, and I (politely) said no thanks, since I'm just using this for personal shipping. The survey took about two minutes.

If you're getting dead air and/or they're not leaving a message, that's likely a side-effect of the way the outbound systems work. It's not a person sitting there dialing your number, hearing you or your answering machine pick up and then just ignoring you or hanging up. My guess is that if it's an answering machine the system hangs up and tries again later so they can talk to a real person, and if you pick up and get dead air it's because the system doesn't have a call agent available to talk to you. Yeah, I know it's a pain, but that's the way phone centers work these days.

When you call UPS and ask them about the calls and they don't appear to know what's going on, it's because they're a big, BIG company and the people you're talking to don't know what another part of the business is doing. Happens all the time.

Hey these people are scums of the earth and this so called Mike must be one of the collectors who should be called asshole!! I have a friend who is being harassed by them daily who has a excellent credit rating and has no idea why they are calling him. Well I told him to hold out to Jan 1, 2013 and do not answer the phone when these jerks call. In January 2013 the government is going after these debt collectors and hopefully put them out of business for good. I told him if this does not stop by the end of January 2013 I will let my family lawyer sue the hell out of them!! Yes this is a warming!!

I am another recipient of these calls that recently opened a UPS account. Luckily I had the foresight when I opened the account to give them my Google Voice number, so that if I ended up on any sort of marketing/spam list I could easily block as many incoming numbers as I needed to. Here is what to do if they ask for say John Doe and that is not you... When they ask for John Doe tell them that's who you are. When they start telling you to pay your bill just say no. Tell them you have no intention to pay it now or ever. Then they start getting hot and threaten you. Tell them they don't have any balls and nothing will happen because they are gutless. Keep goading them, it's fun as heck after all you aren't the person they want anyway. I told one guy I had more money in my dresser drawer that he would make in a lifetime and could care less if he ruined my credit. It's a hoot to see how mad they get.

Same as the comments below. Guy was skilled like a telemarketer, kept talking to keep conversation going. Knew my address, but not my apartment number, and played real like a real representative, ie, asking if I want to be included in e-mail promotions... another big mistake he made, as I had already set up an account on UPS' website already having answered those questions with a click. I also told him that UPS has already sent me a bill and thus ALREADY HAS my apartment number and that I don't believe that he's from UPS, said thank you, and hung up on him... while he was still speed talking telemarketer style.

I called the number back and got the same as everyone below, can't dial in per pre-recorded message.

Surprised I've not seen any ACTION on this since 2006 of the first report, below.

You won't convince a collector like this (EOS-CCA / Collecto maybe) to obey a verbal no-call demand. Since you're not the target of the skip trace, send a cease-comm notice via USPS Certified with card. The FTC and many consumer watchdogs explain how to draft one.

Don't be fooled, Kit. CCA-EOS may be calling on _behalf_ of a phone carrier. If that is not made clear to you during the call, you might pin them to a fraudulent practice charge. Don't just block the calls, send a cease-comm notice via USPS Certified with card. The FTC and many consumer watchdogs explain how to draft one.

If you are receiving repeated, misdirected, and/or abusive calls from a third party debt collector, you may find relief in the provisions of the FDCPA, the federal law which regulates collector behavior. Learn your rights at FTC-dot-gov. See also your state laws for additional support.

With respect to your former career, Jack, DNC is a dead end. The DNC registry is for telemarketers, meaning sales, meaning all debt collectors are exempt. Attorneys general and the FTC are arguably the best complaint venues.

To firmly stop the calls, since you're not the intended victim, send a cease-comm via USPS Certified with card. The FTC and many consumer watchdogs explain how to draft one. Debt collector behavior is governed by the FDCPA and various state laws. Learn your rights at FTC-dot-gov.

I don't think he knows a 'Mollie'." and her rude ass comment was...."Well how do YOU know?" and I said back..."BECAUSE I BEEN WITH HIM FOR 6 YEARS, THATS HOW I KNOW." and I hung up in her face. You bill collectors need to learn some freaking manners. Like identifying yourself is hard and against the law. YOU CALLED MY PHONE, NOT HIS. So until you talk to me with some respect instead of making smart ass little comments such as: "WELL HOW DO YOU KNOW?" will get you nothing but a dial tone.

caller gave the name of another person they were trying to contact and asked that we call them back if we had any info on the person they were attempting to locate.
Being a retired federal investigator it only took me about 2 minutes to id the "true caller." THE CALL CAME FROM EOS CCA COLLECTIONS, their address is 700 Longwater Dr, Norwell, Ma 02061.
We are on the do not call list, we are senior citizens, and live by ourselves. The call was not for us and we intend to file a formal complaint thru the do not call list remedial system.
These calls are apparently in ref to an at&t acct for early termination by the person they were attempting to locate.
In addition any further calls will be filed thru AARP for harassment of senior citizens, requesting AARP's assistance in filing a "friend of the court" class action law suite.
Don't let these folks harrass you. File a complaint and provide the BBB and do not call authorities with the above name, address and time/date they called.

It was UPS calling to ask follow up questions after opening an account. The number is probably tied to a call center, supplying "agents" for multiple companies, where the 800 number on the caller ID is a trunk number and not specifically tied to a business name.

This means, that this number may show up for any number of businesses served by this particular call center.

February 3rd, 2011 wil CO

this is NOT UPS. I alerted UPS to this and their response follows:

"Thank you for forwarding this information to us. The phone call you received is not a legitimate UPS communication. We are aware that individuals may inappropriately use the UPS name or its services to perpetuate fraudulent activities. Please be aware the actual phone number can be masked or spoofed on caller ID and appear to be a legitimate UPS phone number when it is not.

We appreciate you alerting us to this latest incident. "

February 1st, 2011 Resident47 RI

Hmm, reported here I also see the names of different debt collectors and political callers, quite a variety of opinions on caller identity. It may be a legit UPS number being spoofed in parallel by less honest types. The Truth In Caller ID Act was finally signed by the Prez six weeks ago, one can hope that will lift some fog.

call claimed to be from UPS, calling regarding new accounts, and how the service was going. they knew the address, didn't give them a chance to go any further. if it is UPS its a lousy way of doing business. i think i'll cancel the damn account.

Its a scam people!! They call me left a mesg to call them, when i call back it was after hours they was close the mesg said EOCCA collecting for verizon. I call verizon because i never had them, the rep told me it was a scam because she didn't see that every had an account with them, and it not on my credit report either. Please do not give any info to these bums they call from a 1877-208-4176 toll free #

January 29th, 2011 Resident47 RI

NW, I'd say that rep could use some FDCPA skills. You don't "HAVE to call them" at all. The absurd canned demand for you to self-authenticate is the industry's response to privacy regs. That's about the clumsiest example I've heard of yet.

You will never get a rogue debt collector to honor a verbal cease-comm, and it's becoming clear the supposed keypress report isn't much good either. Send your demand via USPS Certified with card. The FTC and many consumer watchdogs explain how to draft such a letter. Learn how to exercise your rights as an alleged debtor at FTC-dot gov.

Has been harassing us for over 4 weeks. Calls all times of day looking for "Carmen Wiggins." We have had this phone number for over 30yrs and lived in the same house for as long. Don't know a Carmen Wiggins, no clue. Have tried to tell them and I give up.

When I asked the person who she was and why she was calling, she told me I need some "Phone skills." Wow.. Unreal. After that call, I started to receive calls from "Unknown" with no call back number. They would not answer, but hangup, then call back again. Went on for over an hour. These people are scumbags.

I have been recording them and will turn it over to the State. One of their recordings say that if I'm NOT this person, and I listen to the call, I HAVE to call them and tell them! I've answered and done as they say hitting 3 to tell them they have the wrong number, and they still call. I give up.

Yes, those self-authenticating messages are quite absurd, but a common collection practice. The FTC makes two demands of third party collectors which are sometimes in conflict. A collector must make "meaningful disclosure" of its identity yet respect the privacy of whoever is named on a debt account. Some collectors fear that leaving a useful message, or even a business name, may expose account discussion to the wrong person, a punishable offense. Of course, the obfuscation works in their favor to make call targets anxious.

December 2nd, 2010 Me CO

This is a collection agency and the message they leave is that if you continue to listen to the message you are acknowledging that you are the person they called. The funny thing is it is an automated call and the message is left on your voice mail! You don't even have to answer the call to acknowledge it is you they are calling! How lame is that!

The worst skip tracers will bend any lie and twist any tale with peers and relatives to get you rushing to call back. If you are receiving repeated, misdirected, and/or abusive calls from a third party debt collector, you may find relief in the provisions of the FDCPA, the Federal law which regulates collector behavior and provides you simple tools for your own defense. It grants you control of how you are contacted, and collectors can be sued for their crimes. Learn your rights and first response tactics at FTC-dot-gov. They called a friend and said they were trying to get ahold of me. Said her name was Jacenda and asked that I call her back. Gave my friend the impression that I was a friend. If it is from this agency I know what its in regards to and I'm not paying their bill. They were a crappy apartment complex and I've been in touch with the corporate office. I'm deployed right now and I am not dealing with this bs that they have no basis for.

Carrie: That's some pretty devious skip tracing, even for a debt collector. They make it their business to root through all sorts of databases, and bother peers and relatives, if they think they can shame a person into paying on some account without a proper review. I would secure copies of all their messages and document all efforts at contact. I'd say the prior reports making a pattern of false contact claims also show what liars you're up against.

All: If you are receiving repeated, misdirected, and/or abusive calls from a third party debt collector, you may find relief in the provisions of the FDCPA, the Federal law which regulates collector behavior and provides you simple tools for your own defense. They called my daughter (in another state) leaving a message saying *I* was looking for someone (the person they are looking for) and it was urgent she call them back. She did (thinking something was wrong) they wanted to know if she knew the person they wanted and where is he? She knew him but didn't know. She called me upset because she'd thought something was wrong. They'd used MY NAME to get her to call back. Looking online it seems to be a collection place for AT&T. Last month AT&T had been calling me every morning, not saying who they wanted. I finally called back (I knew our account wasn't past due) and they wanted someone who used to live here (apparently got my landline phone number from the address) and I told them where he is now. End of it? No, now they are using my name to call my family and get them to call back? How did they get my daughter's phone number, did they go over my phone records and see who I called? She doesn't have any AT&T phones has Verizon for a cell and Comcast for a landline (they called her landline number) I have an AT&T cell phone I hardly use, but it's on another daughter's "family plan". When they called her this morning, they used a nickname for me I use online and not my name I would use on phone accounts, etc. I am on a family plan for AT&T and supposedly $9.99 a month, but its usually a lot more. Even though I don't have extras (even had the internet blocked because it was connected to look for data and chanrging me $30 more each time for this) they add so much extra on. As soon as the 2 year contract is up I plan to look into something else, like GoFone or Tracfone where you just buy time. The cell phone bill is usually around $200 a month (for 2 phones) and if asked they are vague in explaining WHY. Now they are looking at my phone records and finding numbers of family memebers to use my name to get them to call back about someone else?

My compliments to the good sleuthing found in this thread.

If you are receiving misdirected or abusive calls from a third party debt collector, you may find relief in the provisions of the FDCPA, which regulates collector behavior and provides a private right of action. It grants you control of how you are contacted, and collectors can be sued for their crimes. You may however soon find that your verbal demands to limit or cease communication, as allowed by the FDCPA, are often ignored. You will have to place the discussion on a paper trail to enforce regulatory compliance. Learn your rights and first response tactics at FTC-dot-gov.

Oh, and "Mike" the angry pot, please meet the black kettle. If anyone is an economic and emotional parasite, it's the typical rogue debt collector, who doesn't much mind if the amounts or names are incorrect, doesn't care who suffers so they can hit those quotas. Like all of you trolls, you have conveniently missed the parade of entries made by people who owe nothing and are falsely accused.

Telemarketer "auto dial" (one that waits a few seconds to respond after you say "hello"). I always hang up then. But, I captured their number on my CELL PHONE's caller ID. Using my land line, I called it back. A gal in their call center (several voices in the background) asked what number they had tried to reach me at. She asked if my name is "Maria". I told her no, "I am not Maria" and have received those same type of calls in the past at my home, on my personal cell phone and now on my work cell phone. She said they would not call me anymore, to allow 48 hours for this to take effect. I told her I have already allowed more than 6 months for it to take effect and I don't want anymore of these annoying calls.
HOW could this company, possibly relate me to my unpublished home phone, my private cell phone and my company issued work phone? I have a GREAT hunch that they simply ask EVERYONE if they are "Maria". I can't figure out how else this could be happening. I do not have ANY debt collectors. No reason to. So this cannot be over a debt collection. If, for some slight chance, a gal named Maria had my phone number previously, she CERTAINLY could not have had my other cell phone and my private home number, too. Beware, folks. And if your name IS Maria... good luck.

My husband told me that we received a voice mail message from a man who said that his name was Kerry Smith and that he was looking for a person with my former married name. The return phone number was 866-265-7927. Since I have already dealt with the company responsible for this phone call, I plan to again turn this complaint over to the District Attorney's Office as I did last year. The DA's Office was able to track down the corporate office and extract an apology and a written promise that I would not receive further phone calls from their agents. Its UPS. they will only call you if you actually request a UPS account number (6 digit), NOT a userid.

They will call you 3-4 times a day, usually 10:30,12:30,1:30,2:30 and 3:30. I had the misfortune of signing up 2 times with 2 numbers (google voice number).. annoying.

Calling the number back, says the number is disconnected. This I think should be a violation of FCC rules, seriously. Calling people from a number, that they cannot call back. Ignorant.

Though they have called a gazillion times, i have actually yet to hear a voice :(

I have several problems with this number continuing to call.

1) When I pick up, nobody answers.
2) If it goes to voice mail, they leave a very long message of background noise only.
3) They call sometimes at 7 am in the morning and sometimes at 10 pm at night.
4) They call multiple times a day. One day I got 23 calls from them.
5) They call a number on the do not call list.
6) They are calling my cell phone.
7) when I called my phone company to do a reverse look up, they told me it was a unpublished private number.
8) There robo system does not disengage when I answer and hang up, I can pick up the phone 30 seconds later and still get there voice message going on and on.
9) The couple times a live person has answered, they do not state who they are or who they are calling in representation, and when asked have immediately hung up.
10) Have requested to have my number removed more than 30 times now in the last two weeks, yet they still call.

Don't know who this could be. I don't owe EarthLink anything, and since it's an unpublished number and they do not identify who they are. i can not say.

These debtors were given thousands of dollars under the agreement that they would pay it back, but they are not paying it back, they are running and hiding in holes like the rats they are! Bill collectors are like police officers, they are tracking down these criminals and getting them to payback what they stole. Debtors are leeches on society, sucking the life blood out of the economy, Banks were kind enough to help these people out and give them money that they needed, and how do these losers repay them? by stealing the banks money! Money that belongs to the patrons of that bank.

collection company, they are actually one of the better collection companies I have had the misfortune of dealing with. They were willing to work with me and made me aware of all the options available to me. Most other agencies have treated me like dirt and tried to use scare tactics to get money.

Do NOT call them from any telephone# you do NOT want them to ever have. The company is:

700 Longwater Drive
Norwell, Ma 02061

Whatever their reason is for calling you, and if they are calling you at the homes of relatives, they are doing so after a basic background investigation. Rookie investigators, given the right resources, can obtain many of your family's contact ph#s. When they don't know where you are, contacting all your immediate family is what they do first. This is Investigation 101. It is also the reason they give you the 800# PLUS.....a "REFERENCE NUMBER".....to use when calling. This Ref# IDENTIFIES YOU!!. Now they have you from a particular Ph# at a certain time of day. They are hoping to obtain a POE for you from this, then their attorneys can go after your paycheck to attach.

DO NOT CALL THESE NUMBERS from any and all companies doing the same thing, not from any phone# you don't want them to know of and remember that your assigned reference# IDs you.

WANT SOME REVENGE??.....call from payphones or any phone not traceable to you and alter the reference #s a bit when doing so. Don't change them too much, such as adding more numbers, for then they will just ignore the call, knowing it to be in error. Keep the same amount of numbers in your ref#, but change a few of those numbers. Then, their investigators waste a helluva lot of time chasing down those false leads to your whereabouts, but in those cases, to someone else's whereabouts, for your changed ref# may ID another skip they seek. THAT will cost them much time and money. ;)

REMEMBER THIS: even if the 800# is not a trapline (for I have one myself), any company's 800# works the same way!! WHY? Because they are paying for all calls coming into it and they get the data on the phone#s calling them, for they have that right to know where the calls come from since they are paying for it. It's not as simplified a process as a trapline, but ANY & ALL company 800s will get the same data. So, if you want to speak to someone there, use their regular ph#.

They are whores. Keep calling my number asking for another party. Attempts to get them to stop calling the wrong number failed. Call CEO Paul Leary Jr or their corporate atty named Richard Manning and rake them over the coals like I did (800-866-9177). Paul comes to the phone, Richard returns calls. Then call your state Atty General's Office, ask for Consumer Protection/Fraud Dept and file a formal complaint!!!

I kept getting a message on our answering machine from this number looking for someone. I knew the person they mentioned but they did not live here. Finally I called the number back and someone answered eocca? I said I was not the person they were looking for and they did not live here. They asked if I knew that person and I said yes. They asked for the number. I said I did not know it. I asked if this was an unpaid bill matter and they said, "not necessarily." I said they could send me something in writing stating their purpose in looking for this person and I might be able to locate the person but they just said it was not necessary and they would delete my phone number from their system. I guess they are bill collectors but I don't know for sure as they were pretty vague.

They called my mother and me. Our phone numbers are sequential. They told her she owed from a Sears CC she used to have. She said that's been 30 years ago. They didn't know anything about her CC. They are scam artists trying to get bank account nbrs, SSN's, phone numbers, anything they can. I'd recommend not calling them back. All you will acomplish is letting them know they dialed a working number, then it will get worse.
Don't ever give any information, Tell them to mail whatever it is to you and don't give your address. If you really owe them money, they will already have it.

I don't know how you got this number and what kind of business that I've got with you and if you have business with someone then you let them know something through the mail that is more professional. So, I don't know who you are so, don't call this number again and if so, I'll get my lawyer involved in this case also. I like like it when all of these nonsense phone calls are made to my house wasting my time because I've got other things to do more important and there are so many scammer's in this world trying to get their foot in the door and into your pocketbook.

This company is doing some very shady stuff. My brother in law who lived with us briefly 10 years ago owes everyone money. Unfortunately my son has the same name as my brother-in-law. So what happens is we get calls from this company for my BIL. Now MY family gets calls for him. Since my son has the same name they do some sort of search for "mike's" closest relatives. they get my son mike's closet relatives. Today my brother and his wife received a collection notice at their address from CCA!

My son is deployed and they keep calling saying I need to get a hold of him for a personal reason. Of course I was very concerned. They said he was in debt. I know for a fact that he has not outstanding debt. When I asked who was calling they replied, "EOSCCA" was calling....I asked what does that stand for, and she replied, "It is none of your business." Obviously, I hung up the phone. So, I googled the number and found numerous sites with similar stories. These people are beyond rude. How stupid do they think I am...when my son calls, I am going to tell him to call this bogus agency. No way! I am sure we would have gotten a billing from any business if money was actually owed.

This company called my home looking for a girl that I never heard of. They left a message to return the call and have my number removed from there call list if I did NOT know the person. I returned the call and requested that my number be removed. When I asked the lady who was calling she got ignorant with me and insinuated that I must know the person or I would not care who called. When I asked to speak to a supervisor she got snotty. After a few choice words she hung up on me. Very upset, I returned the call and they hung up on me again. It took me five trys until I FINALLY got to speak to a supervisor. They were VERY ignorant and RUDE!!!!

I've noticed on other sites that others are dealing with our same issue, the agency is calling about an old debt with AT&T. However, the debt has already been settled. They claim they just got the info from AT&T and will be mailing us the info. We're calling AT&T to check with them. If AT&T has sent info to this collection agency, this will be yet another issue of a long list that I have with AT&T.

If you, like several that are called by this agency, are being harassed, know your rights. According to the 1977 FEDERAL FAIR DEBT COLLECTION PRACTICES, a consumer law passed by Congress, a debt collector can only call between 8am - 9pm your time (not theirs), you can demand that they not call you at work (has to be done with a certified mail with return receipt request, this proves that they received the request and can be used in court to prove they are breaking the law)a collector also can not be insulting, harassing, etc. And the threat to garnish your wages or take your bank account is an empty threat (unless its a bank or home mortgage company, these guys work within the law and know their stuff) but its only after appropriate and long court action that wages can be garnished. Also, you only have to talk to them once every week or two. Let them know you are working on paying the debt, what your plan is and your situation is, that you'll talk to them once a week to update them, if they call more than that you'll hang up on them. If they are breaking the law, let them know you are recording the conversation, catch them doing it, then ask to speak to their legal department. Play the conversation for the legal department--good chance they'll ask what you want to not sue them.

CCA is a shell company for another company based out of Germany. They specialize in harrassing phone calls and must have success in doing business this way. I am currently being harrassed by them, but can live with not answering their "UNKNOWN" caller ID. Tried to explain that I'm not who they are looking for, but they seem to be suffering from terminal anal-cranial inversion.

I would recommendd you DO NOT return their phone calls.

A quick search of this phone number on the internet brings up a large number of posts with the same statement. Messages are left referencing someone who supposedly used your phone number as a source of contact. An account number is provided with the message. Upon calling back, a person states something along the line of 'Thank you for calling CCA, please hold.' The call is then dropped.

THIS IS A SCAM THAT NEEDS TO BE REPORTED TO THE LOCAL POLICE (HOUSTON, TX) -713-884-3131. Got a phone call from these people saying that I had written a NSF check back over a year ago to a store that I don't even shop at! They said I needed to take care of it today or further legal action would be taken. They wanted me to take care of it over the phone by giving them my credit card or debit card number, or said I could mail them a cashier's check or money order. I called my bank and reported them. For one thing, no such check was written and I also have overdraft protection, so no store would have received it back NSF.
