November 14th, 2013 Casey CA

They have been calling my cell and not leaving messages. I finally picked up and it was a man of Indian descent with a very thick accent. They asked me to identify my information and I told them they should know who they are calling. They were calling about an ambulance ride my son had that happened a month ago. I told them I have not received any bill yet from the ambulance compamy. He then threatened that if I didnt make some sort of payment arrangement then I would be reported to the credit bureau. I told him that he needed to send me a bill and not report me to the credit bureau.

June 18th, 2013 Michelle PA

They called me 3 times in a row. I called back after the first call in which I couldn't understand what he was saying, repeated himself and what said was I owe $1000 for an ambulance bill never paid. I told them I would look into the matter and call back. After I hung up my phone rang again, I didn't aanswer and once again the same number called me.

I'm not sure who this is from, but I've seen others say that it is a collection agency for ATT. That is probably true... because I recently found out that I really do have a legitimate, outstanding bill with AT&T (in Indiana). I thought that my husband had paid this, and he had only paid a portion of the bill. So... it probably really is legit.

Follow-up sorry wrong number, the number I'm reporting about is 1-855-515-7068 and not 1-855-515-3445 as I have mentioned. The 1-855-515-3445 probably does belong to Bay Area Credit group, my mistake.

May 3rd, 2012 Connie CA

I received harassment phone calls from a guy claiming to be someone else every time I picked up his call his number was 510-227-6656, he calls me at lease 10 times a day. He keeps on telling me to call that 1-855-515-3445 number. I believe it is two husband and wife working together to scam people. The 510-227-6656 is an invalid number however for me the 1-855-515-3445 is a working number and the same person pick up every time I called. Took it to the police and they took care of everything. Hopefully they will be able to locate these criminals and take them to JAIL!!!!! BTW, these are just individual scamming people and are not debt collector as people have mentioned, they play out as a debt collector because everyone have debt once in their lifetime, trying to prey over anyone who is afraid of them. They change their name each time you call so don't even bother. JUST TAKE IT TO THE POLICE!!!!

Receive numerous calls from this number. Finally called it back. Its Bay Credit Services in San Fransico, and spoke with a person who couldn't hardly speak english and was of Asian descent. They were looking for my mother-in-law who is 85 and has been in a nursing home for over 5 years. She has had numerous strokes, deaf and on hospice. She has no outstanding debt and has nothing they should be calling her about! They apparently are targeting older individuals and would not give me any information, but wanted to confirm her information, which I refused to do. Told them they did not have permission to use my number and remove it from their list. We shall see! Sounds like another group of scam artists that are too lazy to work and feed off of others! Reported this incident to the Attorney General of my state!

He wanted me SS# and, told me it's up to me to email them at dispute something. I could not understand him very well his English was not the best. Very rude and, he called in the middle of the World Series. Then, I was very rude and called him a couple of choice names.

Rec'd a call from 800-454-2227 AT WORK. This is Bay Area Credit Service. I called back - they said I had a past due final AT&T bill. My bill wasn't due for 7 more days. Their corporate office is in Antioch CA. I got a mailing address from the caller's supervisor - supposedly their actual location: 1000 Abernathy Rd. Bldg. 400 Suite 165, Atlanta GA 30328.
I then called AT&T - and was appoligized to because "AT&T jumped the gun, this should not have gone to collections." He made a note in my file and said this would not appear on my credit report. According to the AT&T rep. I spoke to AT&T sells "delinquent" accounts to Bay Area Credit Service for collections. SELLS THE ACCOUNT INFO. If you get calls from them I'd also call AT&T to complain about it, too.

Whoever is currently using this number is obviously a bill collector. Left a recorded message saying there was an urgent message for someone I had never heard of, and that if I continued to listen I would be acknowledging that I was that person. I hung up. As I am receiving a barrage of calls from another 800 Service number that belongs to Allied Collection Service, my guess is this is about the same matter - whatever it is. I inherited this irritating problem when I got a new phone number a few months ago. I just do not pick up the calls. My advice is never pick up a call that says "800 Service" as it will always be a bill collector or solicitor.

June 25th, 2010 GET REVENGE

Just for fun, if you are working or living in an environment that you could do this in, answer the phone whenever a suspected telemarketer is on the line. If you hear a real human voice and they start their shpeel, hold a gas charged air-horn to the phone & blast them for a second or two! You can get them from amazon.com for as little as $7.00 for the 1.4oz can or under $30.00 for the 8oz which will last a very long time if used in short bursts. Refill 8oz cans are about $16.00. Free Shipping often available on orders over $25.00!

Even if it's a recording, wait and see if a human takes over the call or if there is an option for them to start recording you, then blast them!

These people call me at least 5x's a day @ work. The receptionist warns them that they are calling a place of employment and they are not allowed to and they still do it. All they ever say its a personal business call from Georgia, they never leave a company name or anything. This has gotten to be so frustrating especially for her who has to answer their calls. She never transfers and hangs up on them now. When will they stop and what do they want. I owe them NOTHING. Thanks "nth" Im going to do exactly what you said.

(800) 454-2227

October 22nd, 2009 MN CA

Its one thing to be a reputable collection agency--identify your company and leave a detailed message/contact person. Be sure that your client provided accurate information---detailed info as very often, the client fails to settle the matter with the consumer prior to out-sourcing to a collection agency or client has made an error---assessed charges(penalty fees)for services without advising the consumer in writing. The company at this 800# is clearly failing to conduct itself pursuant to fair business practices/laws--which are very specific i.e.no calls after 8PM. Harassment calls do violate each consumer's right to privacy---in this era of fraud/scam and identity theft. Shame on ATT--out-sourcing---keep your"collection" jobs in-house for individuals who will perform their jobs with professionalism and courtesy---when properly trained and will assist the consumer to the satisfaction of all concerned!

(866) 515-3445

October 20th, 2009 David B CA

Announcement says [a name] if you are not [a name] then hang up. If you are [a name] press 1. You should not listen to this call where people can hear it. This is an attempt to collect a debt and any information collected may be used for this purpose.

Then the caller says her name is Jamie Roberts and she has an important business matter to discuss with [a name]. The [a name] part is someone I know but who does not reside with me. I have told Bay Area Credit Services that the person does not reside at this residence, nor does the person have my permission to receive personal calls at this number. Doesn't phase them a bit, they keep calling. After a couple times of explaining politely that I have no interest in assisting them in finding a third party, I've become rather rude about it. Now they call at random times and leave a message - I've stopped picking up.

October 15th, 2009 nancy WA

This is crazy, same scenario as you all have described. I finally answered one of their calls and they asked for my mother (very thick accent---could hardly understand)---I asked what it was about and she said "an important business matter"-----then asked if the husband was home! I did get a "call back" number which is an 855 prefix rather than the 866. My husband called them from the home phone and did tell them my parents are both deceased. They said "fine, you won't get any more calls."
I had called my wireless carrier and they promised to block the number from my cell phone but it didn't work. Who to contact??????

the continued existence of organizations like this has made me quite skeptical of suggestions I read here and related sites for relief, including contacting the BBB, requesting your name be removed, reporting to the FederalDoNotCall registry, etc. The reason is plain: they operate outside of the law and won't change their behavior one bit if told their business practices are illegal. I was called twice one night this week.

I've had enough of this crap from Bay Area Credit and American Medical Response Ambulance Service (a.k.a. AMR). I should have found this site years ago. An individual by the name of Jamie Roberts, who I'm now convinced is a "code name" for almost everyone at Bay Area Credit, continually calls me and has denied calling me previously. This individual is the rudest person I've ever dealt with in my life.

After 2 1/2 years of disputing the charges with these sub-humans, I've begun recording the conversations. They had the audacity to tell me on 07/03/09 that I wasn't authorized to record the conversations. Excuse me???? They won't talk to me if I record the conversations but they can threaten consumers all they'd like when they're "recording" their conversations for the "training and quality control purposes". What kind of training classes and quality control does this company teach it's employees?

Thank you to the individual who sent the link to the "Texas Attorney General" website about debt collectors and credit collections. This is good information and I will use it immediately.

Unfortunately, TIRR Hospital in Houston contracted AMR to transport my husband (to UTMB in Galveston, Texas for follow-up care) who sustained a severe traumatic brain injury due to someone else's negligence. If I would have known that AMR would have not been so diligent on their billing practices and care in transport of my husband I would have refused their services and made TIRR contract another ambulance company. Dealing with AMR and their credit collection company Bay Area Credit sure doesn't help heal the wounds of my husband's and family's life being forever altered.

In February 2008, our insurance company finally paid American Medical Response (a.k.a. AMR) in full for 18 ambulance runs beginning in June 2006 and lasting through August 2006. I've been dealing with AMR regarding these "past-due" accounts since October 2006.

I've been able to produce copies of the cashed checks from my insurance carrier. I've sent multiple copies of the EOB's as well as the cancelled checks to both AMR and Bay Area Credit yet they continue to contact me after all this time.

By the way, AMR's ambulance was INFESTED with ants on one occasion and they couldn't transport my husband, hence the reason for their no-show on one occasion and no courtesy call to let us know about their delay. Needless to say we didn't get a discount on the replacement AMR ambulance who was hours late.

One day these individuals will be judged by the Good Lord above. I hope these individuals sleep well at night.

They keep calling my cell phone but never leave a message. It must not be that important if they don't want a call back. As long as I see that number coming up, i'm not answering unless I get a voicemail.

June 22nd, 2009 Lou MN

Rec'd this call on a business line, just said important to call, not selling anything. I've had this business # for 6 years now, last person to have it died in 2004 and I STILL get calls for her. I can only assume this was for her too, as I never give out my business # except to clients and consultants. Most irritating, last time this kept happening our asst director had to send the company a threatening letter and that stopped them.

Called and asked for me by my first and last name as though they knew me. When I inquired as to whop they were, I was then asked if they could speak to my husband, I don't even have a husband. Then she goes on to say that this is a credit matter that they want to discuss. (I told her previously that I was not N. Jefferson from the beginning of the call, because she did not identify herself nor the company she was calling from). But, she went on to get an attitude and told me to let N. Jefferson know that she had called.

SCAMMER ALERT! This comes back on Google as Bay Area Credit Services, but this person calls, hangs up, leaves no message and has one of those phone recordings on his line to make it sound like it's disconnected/out of order. If he/she/it cannot state their business in an up-front manner, I'm not talking to them. What kind of business does this sort of thing? A shady one to say the least.

These people will not stop calling, no matter how many times I tell them I've never heard of the person they're calling about. Today there was a recorded announcement said "this is a message for [silence]. If you are not [silence], hang up. If you are [silence], press 1." I pressed 1 to speak to a human being, ask who they're looking for, and tell them to stop calling. The guy was nice about it, but I doubt it will stop. It's a different name every time they call. Not quite sure what they hope to achieve with these random calls asking for fake people.

I discovered via the internet this is Bay Area Credit Services. They called me at least once every day for several months, including on Christmas Eve. No message left, and when I answered only hangups. When they somehow tracked down my Mother at the dementia facility where she lives, I had to call the to tell them to leave her alone. The heavily-accented rep refused to tell me why they kept calling unless I sent them a Power of Attorney! As if I'm going to send an a legal family document to any Joe Blow who wants it without a justifiable and explainable reason. He even insisted in talking to my Mother after I explained she has dementia. There's no point in calling people if there's no message they'll convey - it's pure harassment. I submitted a complaint with the FCC and the calls stopped for about two months. Now they've started again. I'll be submitting another complaint to the FCC, as well as the FTC and our State Attorney General. I suggested anyone getting calls from this company that they do the same.

This call came from a call center in India. BACS is an American owned company with offices in several states. Their specialty seems to be purchasing out of SOL debts (for pennies)and scamming frightened and uninformed comsumers. Do not ever give any caller any information! I hope they call me back, I will simply ask them to hold and let them listen to bad synthesized music until they get wise. Time is money and I have multiple lines, so I won't miss any calls. BTW, the call wasn't for me, but they didn't believe me.

One of the the GREAT THINGS about 800 #'s of all sorts (866-888 and so on) is that SOMEONE pays for them. So EACH TIME you call that number, there is a charge that is registered to a company / corporate account, and these charges end up on a telephone bill kinda that same as you and I get at the end of the month or quarter. That means that SOMEONE is having to pay for them.

Now can you imagine if everyone who got one of these calls, posted this number someone where hundreds or even THOUSANDS of people would call it.

I bet that would make a large bill for that telemarketer company and MAYBE they would get the hint that it is not cost effective to call people and harass them when they don't even have the right number.

Just something to think about.

Just in case has anyone gotten a a call from this number
800-862-4187. It states that it is a collection agency operated by Jamie Roberts of Bay Area Collections.

(800) 697-1234

March 12th, 2009 Mary

I don't understand why these agencies don't identify themselves and say who they are looking for. I have had bill collectors calling me about a roommate who hasn't lived at my number for more than 2 years. I don't know if that is why these people are calling; in the part of the message where they are supposed to identify who they are calling for, nothing is said, so it's really ridiculous. I have caller id and an answering machine for a reason.

March 11th, 2009 Faye

I have been getting these calls as well. Never leave a message...

But I have something to say to those people that "proudly" work for this company...

Those of you employees that are commenting here yelling at us that if we paid our bills you wouldn't be calling, you should read these comments a little more carefully. Most of the complaints here are NOT from those that don't pay their bills, but from people you are calling that don’t have any idea who you are looking for, or don't owe the bill at all. Others are saying that they have tried to follow protocol to satisfy the debt, but that you are using illegal practices against them and not allowing them to at least verify the debt is theirs. Perhaps if you followed the FDCPA, you would be able to collect more efficiently.

It would seem from reading a majority of the complaints by others here that Bay Area Credit is using unethical practices to collect the debts. Debts I would imagine are un-collectable at this point, just junk debts that they have bought for pennies on the dollar. This is a common practice for debt that is too old to collect on. The original creditor/collector can’t because the statute of limitations is up. They sell them to unethical collectors. Once you acknowledge that a debt is yours, and/or start paying on it, it starts the statute of limitations over again and treats it like it is a new debt. Every state has a SOL. If you think they are collecting for something that is several years old, check your state’s SOL. Most are 5-7 years. After that, it should be off your credit report and can’t be collected on, no matter what you are told by the collector (this does not include government debts or child support). And collectors can NEVER EVER EVER threaten you with anything regarding the debt. This includes jail. They can't even threaten a lawsuit unless they intend on going through with it. And they CANNOT suggest that they work for a law office in any way unless they actually do. But don't let a law office scare you. That is just another collection tactic. Law offices are bound by the same laws that everyone else is. And if you think about it, they have to come to your state to sue you. Think how much it would cost for them to send someone to your state to go to court. In most cases, it's not even worth it.

Collectors like BAC are working a numbers game. For every hundred people they harass, maybe 10% get scared and it works. Do this enough, and they make more than what they spend buying this junk debt.

Folks, please read your right concerning these people. Each offense is worth up to $1000 according to the FTC. Make them pay. It will put them out of business and stop creditors from using practices deemed unfit by the government.

And furthermore, Bay Area Credit, some states do not allow the collection of debts from out of state companies. In order to collect a debt in that state, you MUST have a license to do so. I live in such a state and will be checking with the Secretary of State to see if you are so licensed. I suggest you all check your state’s statutes to see if your state is one.

I’m sorry this is so long, but I get tired of abusive collectors getting on these boards and abusing us even more. Especially abusing those of us that have no debts, those of us that have deceased family they are trying to collect from, or calling wrong numbers and harassing people that shouldn’t even be called.

I've posted the critical FDCPA stuff below for all your viewing pleasure...

"The Act prohibits certain types of "abusive and deceptive" conduct when attempting to collect debts, including the following:

Hours for phone contact: contacting consumers by telephone outside of the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. local time[2]

Failure to cease communication upon request: communicating with consumers in any way (other than litigation) after receiving written notice that said consumer wishes no further communication or refuses to pay the alleged debt, with certain exceptions, including advising that collection efforts are being terminated or that the collector intends to file a lawsuit or pursue other remedies where permitted[3]

Causing a telephone to ring or engaging any person in telephone conversation repeatedly or continuously: with intent to annoy, abuse, or harass any person at the called number.[4]

Communicating with consumers at their place of employment after having been advised that this is unacceptable or prohibited by the employer[5]

Contacting consumer known to be represented by an attorney[6]

Communicating with consumer after request for validation: communicating with the consumer or the pursuing collection efforts by the debt collector after receipt of a consumer's written request for verification of a debt (or for the name and address of the original creditor on a debt) and before the debt collector mails the consumer the requested verification or original creditor's name and address[7]

Misrepresentation or deceit: misrepresenting the debt or using deception to collect the debt, including a debt collector's misrepresentation that he or she is an attorney or law enforcement officer[8]

Publishing the consumer's name or address on a "bad debt" list[9]

Seeking unjustified amounts, which would include demanding any amounts not permitted under an applicable contract or as provided under applicable law[10]

Threatening arrest or legal action that is either not permitted or not actually contemplated[11]

Abusive or profane language used in the course of communication related to the debt[12]

Communication with third parties: revealing or discussing the nature of debts with third parties (other than the consumer's spouse or attorney) or threatening such action[13]

Contact by embarrassing media, such as communicating with a consumer regarding a debt by post card, or using any language or symbol, other than the debt collector’s address, on any envelope when communicating with a consumer by use of the mails or by telegram, except that a debt collector may use his business name if such name does not indicate that he is in the debt collection business [14][15]

Reporting false information on a consumer's credit report or threatening to do so in the process of collection[16]

Further, the FDCPA requires debt collectors to:

Identify themselves and notify the consumer, in every communication, that the communication is from a debt collector, and in the initial communication that any information obtained will be used to effect collection of the debt[17]

Give the name and address of the original creditor (company to which the debt was originally payable) upon the consumer's written request made within 30 days of receipt of the §1692g notice;[18]

Notify the consumer of their right to dispute the debt, in part or in full, with the debt collector. This so-called 30-day "§1692g" notice is required to be sent by debt collectors within five days of the initial communication with the consumer, though in 2006 the definition of "initial communication" was amended to exclude "a formal pleading in a civil action" for purposes of triggering the §1692g notice, [19] complicating the matter where the debt collector is an attorney or law firm. The consumer's receipt of this notice starts the clock running on the 30-day right to demand verification of the debt from the debt collector. [20]

Provide verification of the debt[21] If a consumer sends a written dispute or request for verification within 30 days of receiving the §1692g notice, then the debt collector must either mail the consumer the requested verification information or cease collection efforts altogether. Such asserted disputes must also be reported by the creditor to any credit bureau that reports the debt. Consumers may still dispute a debt verbally or after the thirty-day period has elapsed, but doing so waives the right to compel the debt collector to produce verification of the debt. Verification should include at a minimum the amount owed and the name and address of the original creditor. [22]

File a lawsuit in a proper venue - a debt collector may file a lawsuit, if at all, only in a place where the consumer lives or signed the contract[23]

This should not be understood to be an exhaustive list either of prohibited or required conduct.”

This is a scam. I received a letter from Bay Area Credit Service, LLC. claiming that I owe money to a AT&T-West (I called my AT&T provider and they said they had no idea what claim I was referring to). So I called the Bay Area Credit Service, LLC.'s number listed on the "Account Notification" form several times all to be rudely hung up on after I stated I was inquiring about the notification rather than "making a payment."
Essentially, Bay Area Credit Service denied my request for inquiry by hanging up on me rather than answering my questions.
Btw, the number Bay Area Credit Service provided me on my form is was: (877) 405-3352 which appears different that what others below listed.

Resolution: Instead of complaining on this board, I suggest we all file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau if you had problems with Bay Area Credit Service, LLC.:
-type in the zip code of the business - for me Bay Area Credit Service, LLC listed their zip code as "94509" so I typed that number and hit "go" button
-under "Start Your Search With Trust" click link for "Check Out a Business or Charity"
-for Business/Charity Name: type "Bay Area Credit Service" and click search
-At the bottom you will see a link for "File Complaint" for Bay Area Credit Services, click that link and fill out form.

Hopefully all of our complaints will forced the Better Business Bureau to act. My complaint is currently pending.
The Better Business Bureau has received several complaints already regarding this company. Check for yourselves. Good luck to us all.

These idiots are calling twice a day - looking for my former employer, who is also a friend of mine. They are calling a dedicated voicemail line and never leave a message. Not even the 'this is not a solicitation' recording. sometimes there is 10 seconds or so of background noise as if someone was waiting for person to pick up.

I plan on installing a call logger on a MagicJack phone number and forwarding the voicemail number to the MagicJack number. Then I will encourage the brastuds to tell me all about this debt collection effort they are making. They called my cellphone twice now. The 2nd time they left a message saying to call back at a different number and recite a numerical code. I went ahead and called, and the guy told me they are Bay Area Credit Service. He said it was about collecting a bill from Sprint of over $700. I got "slammed" by Sprint about seven or eight years ago, but resolved it. The guy was pressing me to "make arrangements for payment today". I said I preferred to handle things by mail & asked for the company's mailing address. He tried to ignore me, & finally said he'd look it up, and would I hold, and then of course he just left me on hold indefinitely. I hope this info is useful to anybody else who's gotten this bogus call.

By the way, I read on another website that there's no way to block an incoming call from a particular number on your cell phone, but what you can do is save that number as a contact and then give them a custom ring tone, and assign them a silent ring tone, i.e. an mp3 file of just a half second of silence. Neat trick -- I'm going to do it. I'm also going to look into reporting this call to my provider and to the California state attorney general's office.

BEWARE: IF YOU ARE NOT THE INDIVIDUAL THEY ARE LOOKING FOR, DO NOT IDENTIFY YOURSELF BY PROVIDING YOUR FULL NAME. If you do so, they will link your private phone number to your name and that information will be sold!
I recommend that you send them a CEASE AND DESIST NOTICE via a retail fax service as an order to halt their phone harassment. You only need to identify the affected phone number, no names, and no address! It may not work immediately but you will have a record for further proceeding, if need it. You should request a confirmation of the fax transmission for your records. Here is the information as of 08/15/2008:
Bay Area Credit Services, LLC

It also appears that they have access to phone records from suspected debtors and they use such records to call every phone number available. Remember, you are not obligated to provide any information about the suspected debtor.

Recorded message with heavy accent saying "please press 1 for an important business announcement". I did, figuring I'd ream out whatever human finally answered. But then it rang and rang before coming to a "please wait for the next available agent" message. Are you kidding me??? I'm not going to waste my time on hold for a telemarketer, even if it's to yell at him. I hate these guys, they've called me every stinking day for weeks now.

Call History: 2 voice mails left on our unlisted home phone number this week by British accented female. Answered 3rd call directly as earlier messages were unclear. Same female voice surprisingly. Said she was "Cynthia" from "Bay Area Credit Services". Said she had important business and wanted to verify an (old) PO Box number (of my deceased parents) as being a correct mailing address. At some point she volunteered her's was a collection agency. She asked for the last four digits of my social security number to verify my I.D. before giving out more information. I declined. She asked to verify a phone number, again I declined. I asked her what account is outstanding and she said she could not give out that information. I said, "then I can't help you", and she abruptly hung up. By the way, our is an "unlisted" phone number. We'll be reporting this to the appropriate authorities.

I just started getting calls from these people at my home - asking for a Donna Douglas (yay Elly May) The recording told me to call 800-862-4187 and ask for a Janice Roberts. Well I wasn't going to but did - they answered with a recording and almost hung up but I waited. Told the lady who answered that they are calling my number for a person who doesn't live here. She was actually quite nice and said she'd remove my number. Now let's see if I get another call tomorrow.

In my case, they appear to be calling on behalf of AT&T regarding unauthorized 3rd party charges (voice mail) totaling nearly $400. I called AT&T when the charges first appeared, and they wanted me to pay the charges. When the charges were finally reversed, AT&T said, they would credit my bill. I refused this option, as I would have be out-of-pocket while waiting for the charges to be reversed. I insisted, rather, that I WOULD NOT pay the disputed charges, reasoning that when they were reversed and credited back to my account, all that would remain would be my regular monthly charge.

I contacted the 3rd parties and they said they would reverse all charges; however, they never did. AT&T eventually disconnected my phone, which is no biggy, since most of our calls are wireless, anyway.

I let them have it one more time and told them I would file a report for harassment with the FTC and the Atty. General if they call one more time. She gave me the mailing address for the person who they think is at this number. I might just write her too...

This is a collection agency. Southbay Credit. I finally called back (from a payphone) after 10 calls in 3 days at all hours and demanded to know who was calling.

The debt obviously can't be that important if they can't be bothered to have a human calling. Mine is a 4 year old AT&T bill for about $60. Should be interesting to see who else is getting calls about old AT&T bills from these folks.

One more comment about these calls from Bay Area Credit and their automated call center crap from India. These are 3rd party junk debt collectors who are trying to scam anybody they can or gain as much information they can on old out of Statue debts or junk debt lists bought from other sleazy debt collections agency's. In this the "attempt to collect a debt and any information obtained will be used for that purpose" clause as they say when they do get someone on the phone and are required to under the FDCPA. Turn the tables on them! Don't give them any information, pump them for what information they have. US citizens should not have to put up with this harassment and intimidation (especially from someone in another country)! File a complaint online with the FTC and notify your State Attorney General.

May 30th, 2008 John Citizen

Do a number lookup on 678-486-1027! You will find one of the same Indian idiot debt collectors that works for Nationwide Credit that works for Bay Area Credit. I know because I goded him enough that he called me back on his personal cell phone to harass me so he wouldn't be recorded on Bay Area Credit's recorders. He didn't know enough to do * to block his phone number. Now I've got his number to call and wake him up or just do some heavy breathing. Just kiddn', but maybe it's appro-po! After sending Bay Area Credit a CEASE and DESIST letter and the continuing 100 or so calls at $1,000.00 a call from them, I think I'll turn this over to a good debt collection attorney on the halver's and will have a nice vacation nest egg!

May 30th, 2008 John Citizen

This is Bay Area Credit, San Jose, Ca. Speak to them one time, do not give SSN, do not acknowledge that you owe any debt. Only ask for the full name of the caller, the amount that they think you owe and their account number or "call number" (as they like to call it) that this supposed "debt" is connected to. Don't get impatient if you can't understand English with a heavy Indian accent, just keep asking for a supervisor until they put one on, you can understand??!! Then Google www.buddhibbs.com (a consumer advocate) to see what fine folks that Bay Area Credit are! Then go to www.ftc.gov to find out your rights under the FDCPA. Send Bay Area a CEASE and DESIST letter along with a Validation letter, certified mail, return receipt! If you need further good advise go to www.myfairdebt.com and www.fairdebtcollection.com, You can file a complaint online with the FTC. Don't let these snakes terrorize you.

Got a call Memorial Day am when I planned to relax and "sleep in". Did not answer, a recorded message was left -appears to be a collection agency that wants a return call "not a solicitation or sales call". I have been getting calls I never answer also from Oxford Management another collection agency. I found out who these agencies were by typing in their numbers on the search bar...very troublesome for people to deal with. I have no credit issues with anyone and feel that they may be related from the past owner of my phone number. ANNOYING! Don't answer is my advise. For those who are receiving calls from a credit collections agency trying to collect for old debts or old debts, or bought out by a company other than the one you originally made a loan with, CHECK YOUR STATE STATUTES.

In most states, there are laws stating the time limit concerning the amount of time a Credit Company of any kind can collect a debt. They can list it on your credit report as unpaid and this will affect your credit rating.

May 13th, 2008 nth TX

I am not a lawyer, but to get them to stop calling try this, it worked for me, sort of.

Send a certified letter stating that they have 30 days to provide you with all documentation of the alleged delinquent account, including but not limited to any and all legal contracts signed by you, any copies of bills that you supposedly received, etc. State very clearly in the letter that they are not to call you anymore and they should only correspond to you via mail. *** If you request, they have to oblidge, its federal law.

State in your letter that if you do not receive documented proof within 30 days that you legally accepted the debt in question and did not pay the debt in question, that you will consider the matter closed and demand that they cease all action against you. Also, demand that they do not contact any credit reporting agency.

Here's what will happen. They will stop. And they will sell your fake debt account to another agency. In a few months, you'll get calls from someone else.

Good luck!

April 27th, 2008 Wolfie

They began calling my house in February, 3 months ago. I phoned the number on caller id back once and found out it was Bay Area Credit. They were looking for a guy who had lived with me for 9 months and had just switched to T-Mobile, but I told them he no longer lives here, nor ever would again. They asked where to reach him and I said....____County Prison. That he was in jail for assaulting me. Obviously, he cannot pay this 2 month overdue bill at present. Still, they persisted in phoning me. On second explanation, the rep. said they would take my number off the list. Still kept receiving the calls anywhere from 1 to 3x a day. They tried the tactic of calling an 800# back as a VIP call. They phoned this morning, I tiredly explained that the person they want is in JAIL and will NEVER be at this number again. The man apologized and said my number would be taken off the list. Later in the day...""ring"". Next call, I'm letting them know that the phone co. will receive their number and report it to police. That I am suing for "harassment". This has gone beyond ridiculous.

The caller Identified herself as Jodie Roberts from Bay Area Credit asking to speak to my friend. I said (so and so) is not available and I asked what is the call about? Calling Party said the call was of a personnal nature and she could not discuss the matter with me.
