Who Called Us

999-999-9999 is used by large companies to "mask" their internal extension lines that cannot receive a call back. There are hundreds of companies using this method when programming their caller ID blocking. Spammers and scammers are probably not phising this number.

I get between 3 to 5 text messages from an 999 number . It's very annoying because it comes incomplete or mix with numbers and letter and symbols

received two calls back to back; 1st from "Unknown" so I hit the power button on top of my iPhone twice to refuse the call... not even 10 seconds later the 2nd call comes in from "(999) 999-9999" so I do the same thing from that number - power button double-click and away it goes. I also have TrapCall so I have Blacklisted that number. I am also set up on the National DoNotCall registry - but there is no real data to report on the claim to file through DNC Reg... so I decided to post here.

Was an automated call from planned parenthood as a reminder for my daughters depo shot appointment.

I have racked up over 200 of these calls since August 2012. I have contacted both my cell phone carrier and my wireless carrier. as I was receiving at least 2-3 calls per day every day including weekends. They couldn't help me but suggested I try downloading third party apps on my phone, but could not say which ones. After installing one particular app (I installed 2) this particular number UNKNOWN (was unmasked as 999-999-9999 by TRAPcall App) stopped on 01/07/2013 only after I installed the seconded app called CallScreen. I added the name as Unknown and the number 999-999-9999 to the unwanted feature. No more calls from this number! Thank goodness.

This seemed to stop my problem, I don't know if it will work for you.
Summary:
My phone: Iphone 4g, Carrier AT&T,
Installed TrapCall first, which will unmask calls that come in on your caller-id as blocked, unknown or unavailable, etc. and will blacklist them, however it did not block this Unknown 999-999-9999 because 999-99-9999 is not a real telephone number.

I then installed the CallScreen App, and then two days later I stopped receiving calls from Unknown (999-999-9999). 200 calls later and no more calls!

Apparently this number can be rented by different companies. It was an automated message telling us that trash pick up would be delayed by one day to observe the Christmas holiday.

Repeated calls to home and cell phone. Answered cell time. Some idiot asking if was the owner of the home computer and some nonsense about Windows and online. Hung up.

"Adam" told me he's working for Microsoft and needed me to turn on my computer. I asked several times for verification of his connection with Microsoft, and he continued to change the subject. He gave me instructions to "fix" my computer and I pretended to follow along. I told him the computer froze up, he acted like he couldn't understand me. Finally I said once again "I need verification of your employment". He said "Ok ma'am ok" and hung up on me.

I received a phone call on my home phone from the number in question. I knew it must be bogus, so did not answer it. This is scary. My phone sever is HawaiianTelCom.

Its not always a scam.....I usually do not answer 999-999-9999 but today a call came in UNKNOWN then trapcall unblocked it to show the 9# so I answered and it happened to be a dear loving friend from a federal prison on the east coast. It's just the way the number came up probably bwcause of the storm and trying to restore phone lines who cares Im happy I answered it!

This is obviously NOT Nova Scotia Justice calling, but an I.D. theft bozo ring. Reports around the U.S. show that the person or persons behind it have an I.Q. 8 to 10 points below the average; hence, they really believe people will fall for it.

From what I can tell, this # comes up from ANYONE calling through a non traditional phone line... Such as A cable company phone line, or VoiP lines, Skype etc....I have an unblocking service on my line & someone keep calling me private/blocked....when I look to find the actual # this is what shows. I think its an ex calling from a home with one of those cable bundle packages. Basically it could be anyone!

I called the makers of Diamond Brand pet foods (Chicken Soup for the Soul) regarding one of their recalls, we had a very poor connection, so they offered to dial me back. The incoming call from the call center in Ohio displayed this unusual incoming number with Blocked Name as the caller ID displayed. There are some quite legitimate businesses perhaps unknowingly using this number for whatever technical reasons.

Called on my cell phone, even though I'm on the Do Not Call list. No voice mail left.

It has been calling me for two weeks now. I also answered a couple of times and they just hang up and they never leave a message. I put it on Trace a Call. It rang once this morning then I put it on the blacklist. I haven't heard the phone ring since, so I am hoping this works. I would get 6 to 7 calls a day from 999-999-9999. There must be something else we can do to stop them. I am also on the do not call register, so why do business like this get by with it?

Got the phone call from 999-999-9999 , So i answered and it was some data collection company that was looking for someone else, The lady told me that the 999 number is used by a lot of company's that don't have in-coming phone lines or who don't want you to know who they are.

Two days in a row now, I've been getting text messages (no calls) from this number (2 messages each, twice a day). The message is actually empty but it is very annoying since it eats up my credits. I've blocked the number but we shall see if it helps any.

Numbers with all the same digits are spoofed. A lot of call centers do this whether it's all 9s or all any other number. This time it happened to be someone claiming they were representing National Geographic. I've also received calls with all 9s doing political surveys, both local and national.

My coffee company sent my coffee to an old address and I called FEDEX to have the address changed, however, they have a special shipping class that involves the US Postal Service and that's who called to let me know that they couldn't change the address on the package... the number was 999-999-9999

I received a call to my Majic Jack telephone number 678-395-8429 January 27, 2011 around 11:30- 11:50 AM. There was no name on the caller ID, just the number. I immediately hung up the phone and later erased the number from the telphone. Do you know who originated that call?

I received an unsollicted call from 999-999-9999 on Jan. 27, 2011 around 11:30 to 11:50 AM. I hung up immediately and later removed the call from the telephone. Who was the originator of this call? I thought that I should register this with some government agency. My telephone number involved was 678-395-8429. It is a number from Majic Jack and they have no blocking of any number at this time. So I have registered this with the do not call site for three of our telephone numbers including the one listed above.

It was Xcel Energy wanting to take a survey about my recent call to customer service.

This is obviously a bogus number, fake numbers can be substituted for the real phone numbers.

My husbands phone bill shows call from the phone number 999 999 9999 with description number 0002263834 several times per day and for only 1 minute. Interestingly his text messages shows incoming domestic text message corresponding to the exact date and time as tge phone number 999-999-9999 and always with the source from 0000033322. I don't trust him either for several reasons, one being that he is very protective of his cell phone and won't let me see it. I plan to divorce because of his secretiveness and dishonesty. Good luck

I answered this call and they asked for "William" and acted like it was a personal call. William is my first name, but I go by my middle name; only bill collectors and telemarketers call and ask for William. I see on here that several calls with that number were from Waste Management and they claim I owe them money, so I'm guessing that's who it was.

Calls to me are from my daughter in Australia. My cell phone says unavailable, but the bill says 9999999999. The ones that are peak calls appear to be included in my Verizon friends and family even though I have not included that number as one of the 10 allowed. I say appear to be because I have not received the bill yet. Am going by the online usage record.

Getting calls daily from this number. I would never answer a 999-999-9999 or a 000-000-0000. No legitamate person or business would ever use a spoofed number like that.

Immediately after this call, a voice mail message was left by Waste Management notifying me that trash pickup would be on its regular schedule after the July 4 holiday. I'm assuming from the previous "who called" notations that this number was used by Waste Management.

I suspect this is the collection agency used by The Gap. They are notorious for calling multiple times in succession. I'm using TrapCall to blacklist them, so I don't ever have to hear from them again.

The guy who called said he's from BofA and wanted to verify my last 4# of SSN. I said no way and hung up.

This 999-999-9999 keeps showing up on my wife's cell phone log and the calls never come when she is with me. Trying to find out what this number is. I'm thinking it's a masked number.

I have been receiving calls on my cell from what first says "unknown caller", then when I check my voicemail it says "999". The other day my boyfriend left a message and the next day the same message he left me was on his voicemail and it came up as "999" also. About a year ago we received emails from someone that knew alot of personal info. I am truly scared now that someone is trying to destroy our lives. PLEASE HELP SOMEONE, ANYONE!

Just Waste Management automated system letting us know trash collection will be a day later due to Thanksgiving. This time. I'd prefer they use one of their 800 numbers, probably just sloppy programming on the part of their notification staff or contract service.

I have recieved quite a few calls from this id (999-9999) .. aka "the Death Number" in the last few weeks. They coincide with harrassing calls from ex-wife and her friends. There are a few programs out there to disguise and/or block ones cell phone number when calling.
Most of these are just creative idiots/telemarketers. p.s. is from an asian horror film.

I keep getting calls from Unavailable - looks like this is one of the numbers used according to Verizon account usage. Today 11/10/2009 I decided to finally answer and just tell the person to stop calling. I answered, said "Please stop calling me" and the guy answered "Oh, this is the first time I called you, bud. What, don't you love us?" This was incredibly weird/creepy. Other telemarketers that have called, I've said the same thing and they were polite about it and didn't say anything weird. It almost felt personal. It makes me worry about the reality. I have a fiance and we live together, and I'm scared to leave her alone for any extended amount of time these days. These people need to get a life.

Also, I wanted to add a recent call record for the previous complaint about Midwest Publishing. On 10/12/2009 they called me at 10:13AM and 11:47AM. The 11:47AM call is when I told them to stop calling me on my cellphone. Then the calls began on my home phone. On 10/12/2009 they called my home phone at 8:22PM, 7:43PM, 7:42PM, 5:27PM, 5:22PM, 4:56PM, 4:51PM, 4:50PM, 3:20PM, and 12:22PM. That's a total of 12 calls on 10/12/2009. On 10/14/2009 they called me on my home phone number at 9:05AM, 10:13AM, 11:02AM, 1:05PM, 1:23PM, 1:24PM, 2:38PM (Steve Roszell's personal cellphone number showed), 3:17PM, 3:23PM, 4:10PM, 4:11PM, 5:35PM, 6:15PM, 6:16PM (Steve Roszell's personal cellphone number showed),7:38PM , 7:50PM , 8:58PM. On that same day (10/14/2009), they also called me three more times on my cellphone despite me telling them two days earlier to never call me again at that number: 4:12PM and 6:16PM That is 19 (NINETEEN!!!) calls IN ONE DAY from effin' Midwest Publishing. Today, 10/15/2009, it started again bright and early on my home phone at 8:58AM, which was once again immediately followed by a call from Stephen W. Roszell's personal cellphone number (231-250-8006) at 9:05AM. The tool is still trying to figure out how to beat my Call Block service. (Good luck, moron!) If that isn't harassment, I don't know what is.

The caller ID only shows "OUT OF AREA", but I have TrapCall setup on my cellphone. However, the number was still masked even at TrapCall, so I answered it. Guess who - effin' MIDWEST PUBLISHING COMPANY, scam artists extraordinaire. They claim to solicit "charitable" donations for dozens of non-profits, including Narcotics Officers Association, Firemen's Charitable Fund, etc. I told them to stop calling me for the millionth time and hung up. I have *repeatedly* told them not to call me for ANY charity, fundraiser, or product they represent and to put me on their internal DO NOT CALL list. I do not donate to any charity over the phone, PERIOD. Yet they continue to call me, and it has gotten to the point of harassment. They have somehow gotten my personal home phone number (though it is unlisted), and they call me all day long, from 8:00AM to 9:30PM at night. I blocked their number, so one of their asinine employees by the name of STEPHEN W ROSZELL has taken to calling me at home all hours of the day from his PERSONAL CELLPHONE in an effort to get around the call block service. His number is (231) 250-8006, so I'm guessing he works for the Midwest Publishing facility in Big Rapids, MI. I'm seriously considering legal action at this point. I feel they will not stop harassing me unless I initiate a lawsuit! This is ridiculous.

Nobody would have a genuine number of 999-999-9999. That's not even a real area code. They called our land line at 6:30 (during supper, of course). I looked at caller ID which came up 999-999-9999 and "Sun Loan Company," and just let it go to the answering machine. They hung up without leaving a message.

They calling too many times and the caller ID SUN LOAN COMPANY. I did call the police, but they told me to talk with the telephone company. The telephone company told me that I have to pay for block that call. I said no!

They just called my house, when i answered asked to speak with myself(they used my full name 1st and last), upon me saying speaking they repeatedly told me thay were sorry they had the wrong number and hung up, i *69 it to see what the number was and called back and am told its a long distance number and to dial the area code?

These wankers called again tonight at dinnertime (as usual). The caller ID said Sun Loan Company, and I have never done business with these people. They call weekly although I am on the National DNC list and the Texas DNC list. For some reason, my call block will not allow me to block calls from 999-999-9999.

I got a call from this number sometime ago and seems as it was Verizon. they called again on 4/23 and I didn't answer. Seems a home phone is a waste of money anymore because you can never answer it because of all these annoying calls. Seems we need to get a law against these people.

Yes another call and no message left. Did anyone read the about the Senators that are now going after the robo-callers, like the ones that are about wanting to extend your car warranties? It seems that the Seantors are now really mad and are out to get these people because they are getting the calls too. California Youth Charities Scam

I just got a voicemail from this "All nines" number. It was a strange, repeating series of sounds. Not like a fax or modem, but still electronic noise. I deleted the message and my cellphone screen said "New Message [Dummy]". I haven't got a clue as to what this means.

999-999-9999 was shown on my caller I.D. It ended up being Waste Management in Illinois wanting to let me know they changed the my garbage pickup day. Seems pretty shady for a company to be able to block their number with a false one, glad I cancelled service with them.

I googled this number and can be from anyplace I have a call-blocking service that will ID any caller so I just BLOCKED IT and I'm on donotcall.gov :-)

Not sure of the legality, but was finally able to trace the "999-999-9999" number back to Nuance Software (nuance.com). Its their sales dept - and I was getting these mysterious calls for the past 2-3 weeks. No messages, no one online. Finally got a message today and was able to ID them. They have some great products (PaperPort, OmniPage, Dragon Naturally Speaking, etc.) but I told them they just lost a sale using this tactic to conceal their phone number. I own some of their software, so I am probably considered someone with an "established relationship" and therefore legal

Caller ID says "Private caller"; I'll bet it's a political recorded message, given the time of the season. Fortunatly, my phone allows me to block selected numbers, and this one is on top of the list (call rings through once, then is disconnected). Call came in 5 times within a half-hour this evening & twice this afternoon.

SPOOFED NUMBER -- any unscrupulous company that wants to hide it's phone number does this. DON'T CALL BACK as they then capture your number as a "hit" and will increase calls. My caller ID said "Sun Loan Company" but I've rec'd the "all nines" from credit repair, debt collectors, and telemarketers. Complain to your atty. general if you get a name with the number--enough complaints & they'll be able to investigate regardless of the company's "masking" of the call's number.

Each time it rings this number we have a few seconds of nothing and then a disconnect. They call once/twice daily. Annoying? You bet!

looked on my verizon bill to see about 10 calls from sept 4 - 14. Some were 2-4 times in one day and up to 53 minutes long. Was told by Verizon that it is someone calling that number from a calling card or prepaid card. Sounds like we may be hacked.

don't know I rejected from my cell phone, odd no. 999-999-9999 i was worried it might be one of those calls where they manage to get ahold of your acct, to make long dist. calls. This was my first receipt of this number. 6/27/08 8:04p.m.

My daughter gets calls from this 999-999-9999 all the time, especially through the night. The caller id says restricted. No one ever says anything. When I looked up the calls in my Verizon call list, I saw the 999-999-9999. It is so annoying.

That is $4.95 cents for shipping.

Some polite but cold foreign sounding person said he had a free gift for me but wanted me to pay $4.95 cents. We said "No Thanks". (I bet next question would have been "give us your credit card number".

I've gotten calls before from this number but it always said "private name". Yesterday I show 2 calls on caller id and name said "Oprah Winfrey" what's up with that? Is it a scam to get you to answer the phone? I wish I'd been home to talk to Oprah!

Well, in two days I've been called three times. I won't answer because I never answer numbers I don't recognize. If it's so "important" they would leave a message right? HA HA HA! I placed my number on the "DO NOT CALL" list at donotcall.gov The only thing is, it takes 31 days to be fully activated.

My mother received a call from this number. When she answered it was an automated calling service claiming to be her bank, stating her account was frozen due to excessive activity. To reactivate her account she had to call the number they gave her. At 78 she is no push over, she immediately hung up feeling it was a scam (This was Fri. 6-13-08 in the evening). On Sunday morning she found 3 other members of her church who had been contacted with the same message, but none fell for it. My sister googled the number they gave and found comments about how they called but got a run around. This may be something where someone is collecting a fee per minute or where they can use your number to call over seas and you get the bill. Some of the people on google was contacted in the middle of the night.

Received call at 0630, caller identified himself as US Pharmacy and asked if I was taking any medications. I asked if it was any of his business. He apologized for bothering me and ended the call.

Call was from some political agenda company. Gave me a story about the oil companies and asbestos.
Caller wanted to connect me, AT NO CHARGE TO ME, to my representative. I did not tecognize the name
of the representative and hung up.

This is a bogus number, as there is no 999 NPA assigned in the North American Numbering Plan Area; this number most likely appears due to spoofing, but reading comments seems to indicate that there are a number of legitimate uses of this number appearing, likely as an indication that the call is intended to be one-way. If you receive a call from this number, there is a good chance that it is a legitimate informational call.

It's not the "number of death". It was those tools over at Gottschalks letting me know of a sale. This seems like it's a way to piss more people off by trying to bypass people screening their caller ID...that's all.

A call came in with caller ID 19999999999. I was unable to pick up and a John left me a message and asked for a return call. He did not identify himself but asked me to call back at 1-866-716-5705.

I called back the next day and spoke to Katrine. She said they were a company that dealt with "personal affairs." She immediately knew who I was even though I always keep my identity private on caller ID when making all calls. She informed me of a "debt" which had been paid off on time months earlier. She was very shady and would not give me much information (although she sure wanted mine).

I called the company that I allegedly owed. They informed me that I owed nothing and that they had not referred anything to a collection agency.

I called the collection agency back again at the same number (1-866-716-5705) and spoke with Antwan. Again, my identity was immediately known. I informed him of the situation. I asked again the name of the agency, making known that the law states that he must give it to me if asked directly. He informed me it was State Collection Service.

I have no problems with returning a collection agency's calls when they are straight forward and identify themselves, but it is this type of shady business that really angers me. It is the unsavory manner in which most choose to go about their business that will cause me to blow a call off more than anything.

I receive several of these calls a day from "Out of area" with a number of 1-999-999-9999. I never pick up and they don't leave a message. Tonight when they called at 8 p.m. I picked up, said "hello" and got dead air. Repeated "hello"'s still got dead air.

My surmise is that the person initiating the calls is someone who is using a dialer to make "fun calls". Kind of what I did when I was a kid and called the Tobacco Store to ask "Do you have Prince Albert in a can?" (referring to the pipe tobacco of that name) The owner of the store would say "Yes, we do." and my friend or I would say "Would you please let him out?" followed by gales of laughter. We were 10 years old at the time.

I have a recording of the std "disconnected number" message - when I am around, and these kinds of calls come in, I simply play the recording... seems to be effective.

I have my VM set to 7 rings. This avoids "dead" messages on my VM, as most auto dialers give up after 4 or 5 rings. Although, for these two it took 6 rings for it to give up. 7 rings also gives me plenty of time to answer the phone at my convenience and then decide from the CID, if I'm going to answer or not. My system works great. I haven't had the "pleasure" of talking with a telemarketer in years. While not wanting to, because these are limited skill people just trying to earn a living, I always found it difficult not to be rude (particularly to the aggessive and persistent ones who won't take no for an answer),as they are rude calling me in the first place. By just ignoring their calls, I avoid the frustration of dealing with them and having to stoop to their level of rudeness to get rid of them. If I get a large number of calls from the same number, I just use the number blocking option provided by my provider. K-I-S-S

I always get those rude bill collectors calling an making demands. i even had my personal information stolen (identity theft) by a guy working for a branch of clergy check systems. sold my information to data brokers whom in turn sold it to telemarketers... they claim theres no proof of any theft but to check my bank accounts and credit score regularly... wtf!? a corperation stole my identity? be on alert you could have been a victom as well

This is a number leased from the ma bells & used to cover up a real number, which should show up on caller id. Spammers/coll. agencies use it to confirm a live #. Last one to us was from Nat'l Bank of California did we want a loan; one before that from a coll. agency from California looking for someone gone years ago. Best to let it go and let answer machine get it, then delete. Call you local carrier & log complaint for each call received.

The first call was on a weekend - I answered and got only static. All 9s show up when our local police department's automated system call local residents to let them know a registered sex offender has moved to a place within 6 blocks of the resident. It will show up either all 9s or "unknown."

Received a call from some idiot with a Mortgage company called Smart Equal or something like that. Was interested in finding out what my interest rate was. He did not seems to get that I rent and don't own a home. This really annoyed me, wish that they pass a law to prevent people from hiding their true caller ID number (spoofing).

Once a week or so I've been getting a call from this number at work, usually after hours. This morning's voicemail from them was typical. The person burped into the phone, then hung up. Sometimes they breathe heavy for a few seconds.

It's getting annoying, so I called by phone support at the large university I work at. They're now trying to get it blocked university wide, as others are probably having this trouble too.

Transcore media out of beaverton orgeon uses fax machines (30+) to place there out going advertizing responces and when they send the message they manually enter all 999"s or all OOO'S into the fax machine, because they do not want you returning a call to a fax machine. This is a benefit for them and you also because no one can (talk) to a fax machine. The law is that you are to put the phone number of the sending fax on the message so the recietpient can tell who it is from in case it it sent to the wrong party, who is then supposed to send it back to the oringinating fax as a missdirected fax. They sometimes like to put the number to the fax they are sending it to as the outbound fax. This way they do not expose their fax number. When push comes to shove phone companies have to keep a list of all phone dialed to and from every phone number they have in there system and can be retrieved through a subpena weather they are blocked or not. This is true for cellular companies also, every number can be traced to it oringination through a court of law. If you get a call from a IP Operator who say's there is a person on the other end who is commnicating via a computer and that person is trying to buy heavy equipment parts this is a scam big time as they are using bogus credit cards and will not allow you to meet with them. Ask the buyer for their address and have them call you directly on the phone from a unblocked number. Also meet with them to confirm to order. If they are legitimate they will have no problems with these request.

This was a fax from UA Marketing looking for people who want to sell their business. I have called their fax removal number several times and they keep calling back.

I received this call today and when I answered, it was an autmated voice system asking to call an 800 number for Bank of America. What I've learned about the all 9s calls is that it can be from anyone (so, Blockbuster, fake police organizations, etc.) because it's essentially a "mask" of the caller's actual phone number

First weird call today - voice on the other end was the same as the call I got from 303-233-3286.

Recorded message asking me to be on the lookout for a Keith Chapman..may be lost in my neighborhood and to call local police if seen. I called police and they said it was on the level..that our city uses this service..like an Amber Alert system. (Keith was found..he's mentally challenged and walked way from his home)
