How do I stop them from calling?
- Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
- If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
- Block them with a call blocker:
Uniden DECT1288 blocks up to 20 numbers, plus Private and Unknown, with the reject tone, without ringing the phone.
Panasonic KX-TG106 blocks up to 30 numbers, plus all unidentified callers, with a busy tone, after the phone rings once.
JF Teck Caller ID with Ring Controller blocks up to 70 numbers, and can be set to always allow up to 100 to ring through.

It's no longer CMI; it's a cell phone of one of the flower delivery guys from AlphanFlowers in Dallas.
I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY PHONE CALLS FROM THIS SHADY CMI GROUP BUT I DID RECEIVE A LETTER SAYING THAT I OWE CHARTER COMMUNICATIONS FOR LATE/MISSED PAYMENTS BUT I HAVE NEVER HAD AN ACCOUNT WITH CHARTER. I NOTICED THAT THE PREVIOUS COMMENTER "DR HIROSHIMA" HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM THIS IS WHEN I KNEW THERE IS SOMETHING FISHY GOING ON. HAS ANYONE ELSE RECEIVED A LETTER OR JUST PHONE CALLS? WHAT SHOULD I DO?
We continued to let the calls (4-5 per week for approx. 2 weeks!) go to our answering machine. The message was always "Please call Mr. Phelps".
We never returned a call, and they stopped. If they ever call me again, I will file a report with the State Attorney General charging anything I can. Telephone harassment, violation of my privacy, etc. I know of a person who was prosecuted for telephone harassment and wound up paying $7000.00 to the accusing party. Do you think if we all brought successful charges against CMI we could put a dent in their operating budget?
I keep getting calls from this number on my PRE_PAID Phone which means they are using up my phone minutes that I paid into this phone I have not given this phone number out to anyone being I just got it!! Mr Phips!!! Get a life Stop using peoples air time they paid for make sure the number you are calling is really the person you want..
(Hmmm. One voice recording talking to a machine a that records the voice.) They (not a real person) left a voice mail to call an 800 number and talk to Mr. Phelps. No idea what for.
These people are so annoying. They call at all hours and rarely leave messages.when they do the simoly say that it is mr. Phelps and that I should call them back. I am changing my number.
Unknown who mr phelps is, it leaves a message stating to call back me. phelps or please hold for mr phelps
If you are in Texas (or more accurately the north Dallas and Plano area) at International Parkway and Midway Rd is the CMI Building It is on international, you can't miss the Big CMI logo. Now you can take a cease and desist order by hand, or set up a protest (or Riot).
They are currently asking me for money from Charter communications, which I have never had service from, or even heard of until "Mr. Phelps" started calling.
I also got this same call just this morning. This is also a new number as we switched to a different company just last week. The call was a recording and asked me to "call Mr. Phelps" and the number they gave was 1-800-453-5788. They repeated the number several times. When I called the number the recording said it was The CMI Group. I know for a fact i do not have an outstanding dept. What I want to know is how and why is this sort of activity allowed to do such business?
We just got a new phone number two weeks ago, and this number started calling us and when we answer, we get a message to call Mr. Phelps. I actually did a Google search on "Please Call Mr. Phelps" and found a similar website to this: 800notes.com
So I read their posts and found one that mentions the collections company from which these calls are originating from.. the company is CMI, a collections agency in Texas. Their phone number for the collections department is listed on their website. It is 1-800-377-7789. I just called them, and told them we just got this new number and are getting calls from them, can they please stop calling because we are not who they are looking for. The woman asked for my phone number, which I gave her. She looked up and found out they are trying to look for a person named Jessica, who I am not, and said they would take our number off their list. If they keep calling, I guess I will run it by our attorney
They call my phone for other people. It is not me and it makes me mad. I am at work when they call my cell phone. I don't know who it is so I call them back and they ask for someone that I don't know. It is bull grap and I am tired or it.
I answered the phone and they hung up.
They keep calling me even after I have told them they have the wrong number. I gave them the number and they said it is not in their database so they cannot take it out. I have already told them to quit calling me, but they continue. This is at my work number, no less. I asked for a suggestion, and they said they could do nothing. So, I presume they will continue to waste my time and theirs. I told them they were nuts. I'm going to report them to my Attorney General. They have told me who they are trying to contact, and I have told them I have never heard of the person and to stop calling my place of employment. IT IS THE WRONG NUMBER!!!!!!
CALLED IT BACK TO SEE WHAT THEY ARE CAN'T GET THROUGH ON THE NUMBER-DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY WANT OR WHO GAVE THEM THE NUMBER
We received a call on our voice mail tonight from THE CMI GROUP. We are are totally unaware of any outstanding bills and have lived at the same address for over 11 years. The message repeated a phone number at least 8 times and you are unable to understand the person except the phone number.
I know for a fact we have no outstanding or delinquent bills, yet this company continues to call our home 4-5 times a week. These calls started about 1 month ago. (our telephone number is unlisted) When the call goes to our answering machine, a computerized voice (not even a real voice!) says "Please call Mr. Phelps". I would like to know if anyone knows who I can contact to report these calls?
We have been receiving this call at least 4 times a week for the past month. When we answer the recording says "Please call Mr. Phelps office." At this point it's not just ordinary telemarketing calls, it's borderline harassment.
Its CMI Group, a collection agency. I apparently had an unpaid cable bill from Time Warner (TW). Happened when I moved and I never got their bill. However it's kinda dumb since TW should have contacted me by phone 1st (how did CMI get my number huh?). Anyhoo, it was a legit debt, but I told them (to avoid a possible scam) that I wanted to pay TW directly and would not provide my credit card number. I asked them for proof of debt, such as an invoice number and company, etc. By law they must provide that information. By doing that you can possibly avoid paying the collection fee plus you avoid giving them your info. Downside is that you rely on the creditor (TW in this case) to update the collection agency.
In the end they did provide the delinquent debt info and I confirmed it with Time Warner. I simply paid CMI in the end since, I did not want to chance TW not notifying CMI that I paid. The calls would have continued.
BE ADVISED: I used to work for a collection agency in the tech department. They are *NOT* nice people. They will harass you unless you change your number or pay. As a rule of thumb they will never give up. I've seen them call one person several times a day for months and months. I suggest that you challenge the reason for the call and *NEVER* give your financial or other personal info unless you are 100% sure.
OR Don't answer the phone.... if it does not bother you.
This person called on a Sunday no less. He left a recording telling me to call him and repeated the number about 5 or 6 times. I had no idea who this person was or the company so I just let the machine pick up the call. I'm glad I found this site while trying to find out who this company was and what they were selling or soliciting. Now I know. Thanks and if you can find out how to get rid of them, I'd sure like to know.
Who does one report these calls to? I believe too they are a bogus outfit/scammers, and there must be someone we can report the calls to, right? Hopefully an investigation will put them out of business.
I feel so sorry for honest people who were scammed into sending money to some crook...
These people call early in the morning, late at night, on Sundays and are relentless. I don't know these people, don't owe them money and have no intention of talking with them. I am considering changing my phone number to make them stop calling.
Call went to my voicemail. Message in some woman's pre-recorded voice saying "hello, please call Mr. Phelps at #####, again, please call Mr. Phelps at #####"
Called back and there is no "Mr. Phelps." Apparently they are a collections agency. In my case they are trying to collect on behalf of Comcast Cable, however I'm not a Comcast customer and don't own Comcast a single cent.
Also, check your credit report, this company put a collections notice on my credit report three months before they placed a single call to me, and still, to this day, have never sent any notice by mail about a debt.
Said press 9 to speak to a rep, or call a 800 number back. Did not identify who or what they were
LOL!!! These punks are PATHETIC!!! Same tactics as listed below "This is a message for [some bloke's name] by continuing to listen to this message you are confirming you are [some bloke's name]". I believe CMI is a SCAM. They first try to get you to call "mr. felps" for an "important business matter". Failing that, they try to scare you by revealing they are a collection agency. And now this bogus confirmation message. If anyone is actually fooled into responding, I'm sure they will continually receive harassing calls until they pay this non-existent outstanding bill. Let it go to voicemail folks. Do NOT answer, call back, or hang up. It only confirms they have a live line and your attention. Their scheme is to claim you owe a few bucks and harass you until you pay. I'm sure many people would just pay $50 to $100 to get them off their backs. If you can stand it anymore, get call display/blocking or change your number.
I answered the phone and nothing was said.
Sleazy tactics. I get messages on my voice mail saying "If you are continuing to listen to this message, you are confirming that you ARE [your name]. I doubt this is a legal confirmation -- they're talking to DEAD AIR.
Annoying harrassing tactic and company!
