Infocision has called for American Lung each day for a week from rotating numbers, reusing this one every three days.

2010-04-30 02:20:23 UTCarthur

Every single day they call. What a waste of money. Why donate to someone who harasses?

Call come to Kansas on 4-26-10 @ 10:58 CDT. Call not answered and no message left. Other sites identify this as American Lung Association, one of many numbers in their phone bank. Pitch for funds.

Infocision is a telemarketer based in Akron, Ohio and routinely runs aggressive campaigns for charity and political groups. Here is a potentially incomplete list of their past and current clients for the year 2010:

Alzheimers Association
American Cancer
American Diabetes
American Heart
American Institute for Cancer Research
American Lung
American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
Autism Spectrum Disorder Foundation
Ave Maria University
ChildFund International
Concerned Women for America
Coral Ridge Ministries
Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America
Faith & Freedom Coalition
Habitat for Humanity
International Fellowship of Christians & Jews
Jewish National Fund
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
March of Dimes
Media Research Center
National Multiple Sclerosis Society
Open Doors
Operation Blessing
Prison Fellowship Ministries
Saint Jude
Smile Train
Telecom Pioneers
UNICEF
United States Citizens Association
US English

Recent Infocision tactics include predictive dialing and the use of multiple rotating numbers to frustrate caller blocking. Because campaigns can run for weeks and months, the call center is encouraged (if not obliged by contract) to keep pelting the same unresponsive targets through the bitter end. Charities are among the FTC DNC exemptions, even if third party for-profit firms are involved in collection.

Note that there may be overlap with other telemarketing firms working the same accounts in parallel, such as Donor Services Group, Echo Marketing, MDS, and Telefund. However, as phone campaigns from client groups also tend to overlap, it is quite possible (and has already happened here) to receive calls by the dozen each week. Ostensibly they are from different sources but often they all originate from Infocision.

This means that while you may successfully get on the internal DNC list for a single client group, Infocision is bound to call again soon for any of their other thirty-odd clients. Stronger countermeasures may require entry into a master DNC list for the call center itself, a sort of blanket protection. Sometimes you may get satisfaction from contacting the charity or interest group directly and reporting to them the irritation caused by its hired phone jockeys.

However, my records show that the same charities and PACs run the same campaigns at the same times each year. Some will add a call recipient to internal DNC as requested, then conveniently forget the request just in time for the next campaign. If comments to these caller databases sound strident, it's only because we are so very tired of saying "no" every day we are near a ringing phone and having to repeat and redirect our requests.

I have never answered and they call constantly here is the message they leave--'This is 'Cortney" from the American lung Assoc. "Thanks for volunteering to contact your friends and family about donations to the ALA, your packet will be shipped to you in a few days". WHAT?? I haven't ever talked to anyone from ALA, and now i would NEVER volunteer to help them...!

Calls every day, various times of day, even Saturday morning at 8:30 -- very annoying. Will try to remove my number as others have. Thanks for the hints.

Charities are on a roll. I get calls from this one 6 days a week, sometimes twice a day. I never answer and they never quit calling.

2010-04-11 20:07:20 UTCLynne

They call almost every day. Sometimes its 6336, 6335, 6339. Never leave a message.

2010-04-11 16:21:27 UTCNancy

They also call from:

877-504-6335
877-504-6339

American Lung Association?? Since when do they call on SUNDAYS? Not exactly a way to foster goodwill, or garner a donation.

2010-04-11 15:35:22 UTCGrover16

I called the number back, why not it is toll free. The recording said it was the American Lung Association. It took perhaps 90 seconds to get to the option to remove my home telephone number; I only had to speak the number and then push one to confirm. The recording then said they have 30 days by Federal law to remove my number but they would try to do this within 2 days. This seems to me to be easy and straightforward. Let's see if this is the last call from them. When I compare being annoyed by an unwanted telephone call to our troops being in harms way or that there is no cure for cancer this seems to me like a minor issue.

These asses call everyday...it's a war of will between their auto-caller and my "caller blocker" on my treasured Panasonic phone. So far...it's 18 calls...18 calls blocked. I chuckle every time the blocker tells me it disconnected the call. A beautiful thing. I also chuckle every time I read one of these posts from folks who actually return the call and wade through the choices to "be removed from the list". Wow...are there no limits to the stupidity of some Americans???????

2010-04-05 14:29:10 UTCLT

Call at 8:15am- no messgae

2010-03-26 20:20:12 UTCDonna

Following the advice that I received here, I called the number back. It is the American Lung Association. I followed the prompts and entered my phone number to be removed from their calling list. Now we will see how long it takes to work!

2010-03-26 18:13:33 UTCErin

Got a call from this number its the American Lung Association...

2010-03-24 02:58:17 UTCsd

The call is from the American Lung Association. As noted, they call and call. But if you call back there is a message which tells how to get off their list. Per the message, federal law allows up to 30 days for removal, but the message says they will attempt to remove your number asap.

Have called 6 times in one week - including Saturday and Sunday. Too bad I'm always "unavailable" as their caller ID says.
Who are these clowns?

2010-03-17 00:21:53 UTCkk

"if you call the number you can select option to be removed from call list"

Just tried it as of 3/16 /10. Will see if it works

2010-03-14 14:00:04 UTCmary

I have been getting calls from this number(s) for weeks now; they call in the early morning, late evening and weekends.

2010-03-13 19:37:22 UTCSheila

I NEVER asnwer a call unless I reconise the caller/number.
They will get fed up before I do.

2010-03-13 16:12:33 UTCJoanne

Called at 9:30 on a Saturday AM. Said they were calling on behalf of the American Lung Association.

2010-03-13 16:00:16 UTCJim

These low-lifes have been keeping a low profile for a while. Apparently are now on the come-back. Government does a really good job managing the do-not-call list, Huh. Wait till they are managing your health care...God help us all.

2010-03-10 03:44:59 UTCdd

I have been rec'ving calls from this number. I looked it up on another website and saw that people were stating to call back the number and when ask dial 1, then it goes on and states if you want further information regarding the american lung association dial 2, to be removed dial 3. It states it can take up to 30 days to be removed, but they will try to get you off the list in 2 days. hope this information helps... same goes for if you get calls from the ada.

2010-02-28 19:15:43 UTCR.S.

If this is American Lung Association as stated by L.L. below, they're very annoying. Sometimes their name shows on caller ID and other times only this 877 phone number shows. They call constantly, 7 days a week. What good is the do not call list if charitable/non-profit organizations, and politicians are allowed to call?

2010-02-22 18:03:40 UTCbr

if you call the number you can select option to be removed from call list

2010-02-22 18:01:15 UTCbr

go to answer they hang up

2010-02-22 16:30:09 UTCAnnoyed

These clowns have been calling every morning, for weeks, (including WEEKENDS) between 8 and 9 a.m. They never leave a message, but do successfully wake folks still sleeping.

2010-02-22 15:06:52 UTCL.L.

This is the American Lung Association.

2010-02-19 14:26:06 UTCE.L.

They call every day in the morning and afternoon. Very annoying.

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker:
