Who Called Us

I have been getting 3-5 calls PER DAY from this number for quite a long time. How do I get off the list? This is definitely a harrassment and infringement on our personal lives. I turn on the phone and lay it down until I hear the beep hangup, thinking it will kick me out of the system...hasn't happened. I answer it and ask them to hold until it beeps...still get the calls! If it WERE a charity that I care about, I WOULD NOT contribute because of the way they harrass! I WANT NO PART OF THIS!!

I usually don't answer this type of call, but got tired of them waking me up, so I did and they asked to speak to me by name. I asked who's calling and they said National Caregiver's Services and started their speil. I interrupted and said, Would you please remove this number from your calling list? They said it would take up to 30 days, but they would remove it. I then called the number back and a recording said I had been contacted for marketing research or a sales call.

This was the first time I answered - they have been calling once or twice a day for MONTHS.

I see from other callers this is Discover Card. Contrary to what some have said, we DO have a Discover Card and we are still getting these. Unfortunately that may mean in our case they are not in violation of DNC. Thank you for providing this info:

After just receiving my 9th call of the day I decided to call a number that was mentioned on this page - 1-800-347-2683. I talked to a gentleman who works for DISCOVER in Utah. He said he would put my name on their list of do not call and apologized. Time will tell.

I just received my 8th call today. I do not have a DISCOVER card. I blocked the number but it still rings once before they are disconnected. I also want them to leave me alone.

Call came to Kansas at 09:59 hours CST on 1-18-10. Call not answered and no message left. Other posters advised that this is a telemarketer for Discover cards.

I called the number and an automated message says, "You have been contacted for a sales call or marketing research". Do NOT answer this one. It will be a waste of your time, too.

Caller ID showed it to be yet another phone number I don't need to answer. Just another person/place I don't need to listen to.

These people are relentless!! I have spoken to 5 or 6 people at Discover, representatives and supervisers at the telemarketing company all to no avail. Each person ASSURES me the calls will stop and of course they don't. Next call is to the state Attorney General's consumer affairs office and the local TV station consumer affairs investigator. Sounds like a major scam.

Phone company getting multiple requests to block this number. Contacted Discover directly, and it is a sales and marketing call with no regard to DNC lists, which is a violation. Customer has to call 800-DISCOVER to be removed. Oddly enough, card members are not solicited for this sales/marketing call. Enough reports on fines through Do Not Call should get their attention.

They said that it was a 'courtesy call' from Discover Card. They asked for my wife and refused to talk with me.
I realize that the federal and state do-not-call lists do not apply when you have a business relationship with someone (and we have a discover card); but, you'd think that they would get a clue and tell their telemarketing departments to honor the lists -- as these are people who have taken the step of saying ``I do not want telemarketing calls.'' They are likely to be poor prospects. You're likely to just p*ss them off.

Called here and asked for my father...asked who is calling, telemarketer scumbag replied "Michelle", asked what company and she said "I can't tell you only Robert" and hung up. It's Discover trying to run a test credit through your new business credit card system. They are relentless, I'm fed up with them so much that I'm going to cancel my merchant accounts and just not use credit cards if this is how it is. They call AT LEAST 6 times a day. This was a polling call from JM Research on the presidential campaign. I'm assuming it was an "internal" poll by the McCain campaign as there is no "JM Research" in existance that I've been able to find. I live in Florida

They hung up when answering machine started. I suspect this is just a "mechanical" caller, dialing at random and making note of numbers that are actually pick up, so that they can build lists for telemarketers.

Based on others' comments, I believe this must be a telemarketing company hired by Discover Card. I am going to tell Discover to stop calling me for promotions. I was on vacation for 8 days and they called 20-something times while I was gone. I believe that is harrassment, but presently it is not illegal. So if you have a Discover card, don't report this phone# to the FCC--time they spend investigating this is time they don't spend investigating something that is actually illegal. Call Discover Card and tell them to stop the madness!

Now that I think about it, my father did JUST activate his Discover card, from his cellphone. He mentioned that he was asked to input his home telephone number; so maybe that's where they got it. I'll have to tell him when he gets home, then.

No names showed up on caller ID, but after several repeat calls I answered. The guy said he was from Discover Card...but I think to sell something rather than from the card service itself.

I keep getting calls from this number 866-831-4847. They hang up when I answer & the never leave a message when the machine picks up. Sometimes they call up to 7-8 times a day and never speak when I pick up the phone. When you call back the number its states that you have been contacted for a slaes or marketing call. Then hangs up. So you can't even tell them to stop calling you! I am registed on the do not call list & have filed a complaint. But I also filed a complaint with the FCC today. LOL..get a VOIP. I have blocked this number, so it never rings, and they get a constant busy signal. With VOIP you can block INDIVIDUAL telephone numbers. It is a awesome feature, yet if you look at your call log online you can still see if they are calling..and yes these guys are still calling, but they will never get through on my line using this telephone number..hahaha! I use teleblend if anyone is wondering, but there are many others that offer a number block. I don't know why regular phone companys are so slow to adopt such a thing..perhaps a conflict of interest since they also sell your numbers.

I got 5 calls from this number: 2 on the 8th, 2 on the 9th, and one today. I was home for the last call. When I picked up the receiver, I heard nothing after I said Hello. So I hung up and won't answer in the future if/when this number comes up on the CallerID again.

Claimed to be from DiscoverCard. Offered to send my three credit reports for free. I asked multiple times if there was a charge and they said "no." They said they monitored my account for fraud and would continue to. Kept asking if they could send the packet and I kept asking about a charge and they kept saying "no." Eventually, they said I had 30 days from the postmark and then tried to steer the talk away quickly. When I asked about the 30 days, she finally said to cancel or it would be $12.99 per month.

Radio station WTQR money give away.. Listen to radio station between 2 certain times for a chance to win money!!! I asked " are you kidding you think I am going to lsten to your station for that!"

I am faxing a letter to the CEO of Discover about this today. I suggest you do the same.

Been getting this call off and on now for over a year and a half. At first they'd only leave silence on the voice mail machine then hang up. Later on, they knew exactly how many rings there were before the machine would kick on and they'd hang up before it'd record.

I believe they may be from an out sourced telemarketing company used by the Discover Card Company. As soon as they finally stop calling me, they start up again right after I use my Discover card. I don't positivly know for sure if they're affiliated with them (have no proof) but I highly suspect Discover's trying to get around the "Do Not Call" laws... very dirty. I have reported the number to the DNC agency just yesterday (12-20-07).

Did anyone actually read what the Do Not Call Registry covers and what it does not??? The DNC DOES NOT cover, charitable organization, political calls, market/research surveys or companies that you have done prior business with. If want the calls to stop, you have to tell these idiots to "Remove you from their call list" and yes, you have to say it that way. Saying, "Stop calling me" does nothing and they will continue to call.

Saw a different blog with many other similar complaints -- people there said the call comes from Discover cards. Called 1-800-DISCOVER and got put on their do not call list (within 6-8 weeks!). I also registered my phone on donotcall.gov. This "service" hangs up when you answer - completely ridiculous. From the other comments, wondering if it's just Discover, or an outside marketing service that works for various companies to determine if/when you're home, and if you'll answer the phone. Seems like an invasion to me.

The caller said he was doing a political poll, didn't say which party. Asked which was most important to me when I go to vote. One issue he asked about was illegal immigration and he could barely speak English. He asked who I'd vote for out of the list of Republican candidates and I told him I didn't know who I'd vote for but I told him I knew 100% who I would not vote for and that would be Ron Paul. Funny now after reading one person here says it was a Ron Paul poll. If it was it's at least the 4th time lately one of his polls have contacted me using a different number and tactic each time. I've noticed the occurance of telemarketers and research calls have doubled lately. I am on the do not call list too.

They called once, I picked up the line and nobody was there. The phone rang again in a moment, this time a lady on the phone said she was calling from the Baltimore Fraternal Order of Police, explained a story about a police officer and asked for a donation.

Ron Paul, running for President, used this number to make an illegal (by our state law) automated dialing and announcing device (ADAD)pre-recorded political call despite being previously made aware that such calls are illegal, and generally unwelcome. Keep this in mind when you decide for whom you will vote. He must have hired this telemarketing company. If he is a conscientious public servant, he should freely share with all of us, the FCC, and state authorities the identity of the telemarketing company.

They've been calling me for weeks now. Most of the time I ignore it. Sometimes I answer and immediately hang up on them. Odds are it's Discover from everything I read. These started a few weeks after I signed up for their card.

Caller is a telemarketing firm for Discover Card. We have informed them not to call but they continue to do so. Their method is to call and hang up if you don't answer immediately.

Unfortunately, politicians are exempt from the DNC rules.

Found information that this number 866-831-4847 was from one of Discover Cards outsourced telemarketing numbers. I called Discover Card directly
1-800-Discover and told them what was happening. I gave her the number and she verrified that it was theirs. She asked if I wanted off of their call list for special offers and I said YES She thanked me for being a discover card customer and I said we will see if I still am in a few days. They said it will take a few days to go into effect. I also mistakenly told her 888-891-4748 first and she also verrified that as one of their numbers.

I just looked on a phone that we don't use and it had stored incoming calls from this number as 42. Sometimes they call right back one minute after getting my machine. I decided to answer. Same as others dead air and clicking. I have been told that marketers get paid for completed calls and that all they need for a completed call is a hello. So don't say anything. Called number back same as others sales and marketing research message and call ends.

I also get hang ups from this number. I called the number back and it said, "you have been contacted for marketing research or a sales call."

They hung up as soon as I picked up

I get 4-5 calls from this number with out any info and announcement after I pick up the call. I have stopped doing it when I get calls from this number.
