God damn collection agency
Jose Diaz from portfolio recovery associates called immediately asking questions. The guy was really rude and reluctant to leave a message.
These are jerks known as debt collectors: Portfolio Recovery Associates, LLC. out of Norfolk, VA. Collect meca for dumb ass collectors. They never have there act together, can't validate a thing, buy worthless debt that time barred in the courts, keeps calling even when you send your letter. When you them that, they just dumb up and act like you're the problem. I think I'm going to get real rich here. Violations out the arse for debt collection violations. I'm going to have some fun.
Pond scum that keep calling even when you send a cease letter that you are not the ones they are looking for. They are usually stupid collectors that don't or could care less about what they are doing and they don't know any better. I would say without 100% sure that they are put up to this by there higher ups that do know better and claim stupid when caught.
These people are such idiots and MAJOR FDCPA violators!!!! If you get a call from these people, advise them to CEASE & DESIST calling you. Per the FDCPA, they MUST remove your number - if not, they are violating the FDCPA and even the individual collector and be held financially liable..
Got a message on my home answering machine. When I called back, they said they couldn't find my account and started asking questions like they were trying to find the account, including where I lived, where I lived before, my middle initial, did I have another phone number. I didn't give them any of that information. When they still couldn't find it, they said they could look it up if I gave them my social security number. I asked if they were crazy and said there was no way I'd give that out. Even though they still couldn't find an account, they said someone would call me back. I have no unpaid debt.
I keep getting calls from these idiots and I am always made to feel like a criminal! They have a bogus ddebt verified as BOGUS by AT&T yet they still WILL NOT stop calling me and saying its going on my credit report! WTF how on earth can these criminals get away with these threats, they said if I paid them 1100.00 they would stop calling! F*k @ss BitC$#% MOT#$% FUgg rotten sack of SH!t$ but i dont mean to offend :-)

Received a call from Karisa, I asked the caller to please spell her name. She asked for my husband by his first name. I let her know he was unavailable. She asked if I was his wife. When I asked what this was regarding, she said "a personal business matter". It's that an oxy moron. Anyhow, I asked her if she were a personal friend and if he had her number. She was uncharacteristically claim for a debt-collector but answered my questions. She provided 866-428-6589 x11227 as a call back number.
I appreciate the information that has been provided. I truly did not know my rights as a consumer. I will look in the the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Fair Credit Report Act.
Thanks to all whom provided the below dialogue.
Message was left at 8:55 am on 8/26/09 to call Drew at 866-428-6589 ext 11299. Portfolio Recovery Associates is a company that purchases deliquent accounts from various companies.
Like most companies who purchase debt they in most cases are tring to collect money that they can no longer force you to pay because the last transaction occured more then four years
ago. In addition these companies do not have any documentation to prove you ever owed any money to begin with. You have the right to request and receive written proof that the debt belongs to you
as well as copies of contracts, charge drafts etc., the you actually signed creating the debt. If you send them a letter stating you know you owe the money or if you send them a partial payment they can legal begin persuing you for the money again. If you request proof of the debt in writting (I reccomend your request is sent by certified mail with a return receipt request and that you keep a copy of your letter)they must provide you with the information. They are not allowed to continue their collection activity until they provide you with the information. If they do not provide you with the information or if you find that the account exceeds the four year statue of limitations and they continue to attempt to collect send them another certified letter advising them to "Cease and Desist". If they still continue you should file complaints with the Federal Trades Commission, Your State Attorney General and the Better Business Bureau. There are other good comments I have read here regarding The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and other laws. If you are not familure with your rights as a consumer I suggest you read them. These people are violating the laws and your rights, not to mention they are harrasing you and they have an answer for everything. I have been a professional bill collector for 30 years and I dould not even dream of using these kinds of tactics. Recommended reading: The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, The Fair Credit Reporting Act NOTE: To spite the fact that thousands of complaints have been filed, the regulatory agencies mentioned have ignored our complaints but file your complaint anyways (they can not ignore them forever. If 90 days after you file your complaints, the collection attempts continue, I recommend you file another complaint with your Congressmen, and make sure your Congressmen is given copies of the Complaints you filed also. If you file your complaints online I strongly recommend that you also file all your complaints by Certified Mail with a return receipt requested.

"Kalita" called me asking for my mother and when I asked what she was calling for she said, "It's a personal matter." I wanted to ask her why she was calling on my cell phone then instead of just trying to reach my mother. The number showed up as 800-772-1413 but she asked that we call her back at 866-428-6589 Ext. 11027
In accordance with The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (1 USC 1697c ยง805(c)(3) it is hereby demanded that your agencies, employees and representatives are to CEASE AND DESIST any and all contact via phone to the undersigns home or office numbers. If this is a legitimate debt you will then have all current information in your file and are to provide written validation of said debt (including but not limited to the original signed agreement/contract and relevant information) within five (5) calendar days to the address in said file upon receipt of this communication.
Failure to CEASE AND DESIST - or to attempt to take further collection actions without validation of said debt - shall subject your company, agents, employees and representatives to Civil Liability, legal fees, and court costs.
These guys continue to call my work number on a debt that was charged off and settled 15 YEARS AGO. Statute of limitations on credit card debt collection is 4 years! They play games ranging from not giving up information and beligerence, to acting like law enforcement. I'm filing with all the legitimate agencies against them including Do Not Call list since this is an automated call not a direct call.
This person called sounded like a black lady with an attitude. She asked for my dead mother by her full name and then stated she was trying to reach an ex - inlaw. The caller Id came up as the phone number of 800-772-1413 but when she left a message she wanted to be called back at 866-428-6589 ext 11035. People like this is one of the reasons I let all calls go to voicemail.
Portfolio Recovery Associates is relentless. They will chase you forever no matter what you do. They ignore cease & desist request and they will not provide proof of the debt. They did sue me, posted that to my credit report and have tied me up for several years trying to get rid of them and to get the truth established. I have a folder of letters - to no avail. I've reported to the BBB, state attorney general & the FTC - but that doesn't stop their actions, only makes me feel better for telling someone else. I've used the credit report mechanisms to challenge and request proof - with no luck. My mistake was talking to them by phone at all. I changed my phone to an unlisted number and they still tracked me down. They have called my job and left voice messages on phones of co-workers - I guess in an attempt to embarrass me. I believed all I had read on the Internet about how they could not sue if they had false or inaccurate information or if they failed to provide proof of the debt - but that did not prove to be correct - they can sue!
The reason they can have different numbers and names show up on the caller ID they are using VOIP, which is calling over the internet. They can basically call you for free and just pay a monthly subscription fee. But the good news is you can do the same thing! Services like Skype are available for about $3 a month. The basic service lets you call out but you do not get a phone number with it. The calls are routed from overseas so you will have to let them know who is calling, it wont show up on their caller ID. You can download a free program called "Skype call recorder" from
download.com, which is handy to have when you talk to them. If you want to save time by returning all of their calls at once you can use the conference call feature. Just enter in a bunch of their phone numbers and hold the control button while you select them from the list. Please spread the word on this! Technology can work both ways!
These people violate the F.D.C.P.A. and do so as a matter of course.
They called my niece who lives in Pacific, MO and told her that she was subject to being arrested if she did not pay and that they would have the Sheriff sell her house if she dod not pay and then while on a conference call with my niece and them the collector a Mr. David Hutchinson said he never told her that.
When I then informed him to Cease and Desist all communications with her regarding this debt and I terminated the call he told her to haung up so he could speak with me and that I was a jerk.
I sue on credit card debt for a Collection Agency nationwide and we do not lie to consumers in the Collection of a Debt.
Remeber, you have a right to demand validation of the debt from these idiots which means they must provide you with a copy of the original signed application, billing statements, and a copy of the entire card holder agreement.
This is normally never obtainable from the buyer of the debt and thus they cannot receive a Judgment from any Court without it.
Also remeber, if you are on social security and own a home you are entitled to your states maximum amount of a homestead exemption menaing you have a right to stay in your house.
The best they can do is to file a lien on your house which means nothing if you still owe on your home anyway.
The lender has a superior lien to any Judgment that they might obtain so you need not worry.
Contact the Federal Trade Commission and lodge a complaint with them every time they call you and violate your rights.
You can go on line to find their website address:
Also, you may sue them for violating your rights in the United States District Court so contact your Legal Aid Society for attorneys who file suit against Collection Agencys such as this one.
PRA does not care if the debt is legit or not. I have gotten calls to collect debt that was already paid. But they wont listen, they wont send mail listing what the debt was from. They don't care, they just want some idiot to pay them so they wont risk damage to credit rating!!! AND IT WORKS. So until they get sued more than they get idiots to pay, they will keep doing it. Eventually they sell the debt to another office and so it starts over again. And that bypasses all the paperwork you may have sent requiring them to stop!
So I recommend calling them back, often, tie up their phones and personnel, yet never give them a dime. Its legal and they deserve it. Ask for supervisors have them explain your 'debt'. And even better record the call in case they get mad. In most states recording is legal without requiring notification. If they say even one bad word you have grounds for a suit that will pay you thousands. They pay out often! But they collect far more!
WHY DONT YOU DEAD BEATS PAY YOUR DEBTS THEN?
I took a message for my husband. I took down all the info and asked what it was in reguards to, she said "He knows." I replied that he will have no clue and she said "Oh he knows, he knows."
He has no idea. They called again the next day and Different name, same voice, when I was finished taking down the info I asked what it was in regaurds to and she hung up on me. Can't wait till tomorrow. My turn to hang up.
Keep calling non-stop.Refuse to say what they want, keep asking for HARD COLD CASH.

Wow lol these people have little patience. Ask them to repeat themselves a few times and keep jerking them around for about ten minutes then say wait who did you say you were looking for? and when they answer tell them ever since you got this cell phone people call looking for that person all the time and your sick of it tell them you want to speak to their supervisor so they'll quit calling this is "your" number now not whoever they are looking for. I told them I was Sissi Spacek. It's been over two weeks now and i haven't heard back from them.
I received an answering machine message from a person who identified themselves as 'Lisa Flauter' from Portfolio Recovery Associates, said 'this is an attempt to collect a debt', and to return the call to 866-428-6589, extension 11103. No need to repeat the information from the other postings, but this company has many (MANY) different 800, 866 & 877 numbers as well as many different ficticous caller's names they use to dupe individuals into returning their calls. Just be aware that anytime you call an '800' number, your number shows up on their caller ID.
These people tried to collect a debt owed over 10 years ago: a debt that has been cleared off my credit report. HANG UP. THEY GET UGLY WHEN YOU REFUSE TO PAY.
Portfolio Recovery Associates - Same pond scum collection agency - different number. They are just sooooooooo tricky! What a joke. These people are in financial trouble... buying WORTHLESS debts and trying to collect on them. They have resorted to a new low in "creative accounting." They are sending 1099's out on debts that weren't legal to collect on in the first place. REPORT THEM TO YOUR STATE'S ATTORNEY GENERAL AT ONCE if they are harrassing you for a debt that isn't yours or for a debt that is PAST the Statute of Limitations! This pack of scrotum scum regularly employs ILLEGAL tactics. They have a number of lawsuits against them as well as a number of lawsuits pending! These low lifes are thieves. Reverse the tables on them - LEGALLY!!
