The phone is ringing, and I don't recognize the number, All Caller ID says is, "NAME UNAVAILABLE".
Please help me figure out who is calling and what they want
We were harassed by these people every hour on the hour from 4 pm to 9 pm for several days - they will not take no for an answer. Each time it was a different person who called. It wasn't until my husband threatened legal action that they promised to take us off the list. What kind of legittmate charity does this??? I suspect after a couple of weeks they will start up again - from another of their 3 numbers. If they are "legit" they should change their methods Even car salesmen and insurance guys aren't this aggressive and obnoxious!

I received a call from this number today.IT IS A SCAM! Unfortunately these people pray on the emotions of the public regarding the devastation of Breast Cancer, or for that matter, any other terrible disease. In my research, it appears that these people may have a tie to a James Reynolds who has promoted other scams regarding cancer charities over recent years. One being CFA, Cancer Fund of America. Also known by other aliases. We made a mistake by donating a small amount to the cause through a friend, sounded totally legit, but in the process we got on their calling and mailing list. I had to finally threaten them with implied legal action to get off the list. They removed us probably not wanting the negative publicity if it got in the media.

Breast Cancer Charities of America IS for real, legit, 100%. I know the Executive Director (and her family) personally. Google "Greg Anderson" and "cancer" and you can see why this family is so invested on finding a cure for cancer. I will pass on to them that they should perhaps look into changing the fundraising company who is hired on behalf of BCCA, especially if they are giving them a bad name. But they ARE a real charity who helps people with breast cancer pay their bills and things.

This phone number is calling to try to SCAM money for the cancer charity. I have NOT called the number, nor will I. It directs you to a customer service department that can answer questions using potentially manipulative techniques, help you waste your donation on fundraising fees, or anything else related to the cancer charity getting a small fraction of your donation, 12% to 27% Some fundraiser's pocket as much as 73% to 90% and up. Also, there

They are "professional fund raisers." 20% of their take goes to whatever charity they claim to rep, while the other 80% gets "recycled back into the cause." They are using naive or shady charities to get around the Do-Not-Call lists' regs. They are some hate-able people: 11.7 million in annual est. sales and 300 estimated employees.

I make a contribution 4-5 times a year and this time I trashed the return portion of the address. To get a hold of anyone, for the return address is next to impossible, and mind bending. I would think the Breast Cancer Charities would make it a bit more possible for people to get a hold of them for information.

To Bob = Ditto my friend. To Barbie = Wow you really are clueless, you poor pitiful thing. Do you honestly believe that calling people night after night harrassing them for donations to charities is productive or moral? The unfortunate victims from this activity is the charities themselves. People that are charitable like myself tend to get annoyed with your spew, and start to take a less then favorable attitude towards the very charities you claim to represent. You were so gracious to point out to all of us, that we need to be more understanding of you and your coworkers. Perhaps I can give you some advice. "No thank you, I'm not interested" means don't argue, continue spewing your vomit, or call back coutless times.
I'm sure it takes a very "special" breed to work in your "profession". Obnoxious, rude, relentless & threatening seemed to be a preferred requsite. With all said, I truly do wish you the very best with your law career. It sounds like you would make a perfect A>C>L>U lawyer = good luck

@ lb with your ignorant comment...a "real job" is any legit job that allows you to make an honest living and associated community services does that...if it were "a scam" then we would have been shut down a long time ago...not many scams last for 20+ years of service for charities
@ lalaland I agree totally with your comments I work there too....people are speculating about scam this scam that but if they just took some time to actually research the organization then maybe donors would be a bit knowledgeable about it....
Call your state's attorney general office for one if you want to find out more about the financial position and validity of a charity...even on your state attonrey general office website it clearly states "charities sometimes hire PROFESSIONAL FUNDRAISERS TO SOLICIT DONATIONS FOR CAMPAIGNS" INQUIRE ABOUT THE OVERHEAD COSTS (which is why in the pitch we have to say PROFFESSIONALLY FUNDRAISING) there is nothing misleading in the pitches, the problem is you guys don't listen you just HEAR WHAT U WANT TO HEAR.
Furthermore if you guys really think there are actually charities where 100% of your donation goes towards the cause you donors are more ditsy than I thought because NO CHARITY DONATION IS 100% how do u think they stay in business? How do u think ppl like susan g koleman finance big events like the 3 day walk for the cure? Or pay for advertisements on so many food items in the grocery store guess what FROM YOUR DONATIONS!
I work there and I am making an honest living...I'm in law school and will be getting my law degree really soon so @ LB IS THAT JOB REAL ENOUGH FOR YOU? Do your research dummy

I am just as sorry as I can be for parentless telemarketers and penniless students and even prostitutes trying to stay off streetcorners, but the fact is that these are scam operations, they have been in business in one manifestation or another since Roman times, in our parents' generation they were selling vacuum cleaners, magazine subscriptions, encyclopedias, Bibles or anything else they could scam. America has a gullible public or we would never have had a war criminal and torturer for a President, either--or we would have hanged him and half of his administration by now, anyway. JUST SAY NO! The lives you save may be your own. It has been my experience--and I have been a social worker for a public welfare agency--that only your local United Way provides any meaningful oversight to charities--attorneys general just do not have the time or manpower to address telesolicitation.

Got a call asking for my husband by name, said he wasn't in, so she asked if I was the wife and I said yes. (By now I knew it was a telemarketer, probably for a charity, but I was curious and willing to play along, depending on the way things went). she was very nice, identified as Breast Cancer Charities of America. I said I wanted to write it down to check up on it because there are already Br Ca charities I give to. She was pleasant, and gave the website and phone number (as given above and in other comments). She went on to say that they provide financial support to pts with breast cancer, like paying rent when they're unemployed, etc. I said it sounds like a very nice thing to do...to help in ways that traditional charities don't do. She was willing to let me look it up and she did not press for a donation. In any event, I like the Breast Cancer Fund, which works toward PREVENTING cancer, by trying to bring awareness and legislation for BPA, perchlorates, and other pollutants that cause breast and other cancers. I don't know enough about BCCA to give, and our giving dollars are limited anyways. I'm sticking to a few: local food bank, Doctors Without Borders, Environmental Working Group, Breast Cancer Fund, local womens' shelter, maybe a couple others.

I rec'd a call from "Breast Cancer Charities of America" - they pressed me for a donation, finally against my better judgement I said I might be able to send $5.00. She said I will put you down for $20.00 but you can send whatever you want. I rec'd my PLEDGE card in the mail and it clearly states that a "professional solicitor" is conducting this campaign. Associated Community Services...Also the donation would go to a UPS Store in Plainsboro NJ. SORRY - they won't be getting ANY money from me. I will give my money to a Charity that has ONE address andI will pick and choose my 'charity' organizations... &go with the ones that mainly use volunteers so that the bulk of the $$ goes to the charity!!
2010-01-29 01:25:37 UTCunknown
nothing about this is a scam. what proof do you have that it's a scam? no laws are being broken. charities need not obey the DNC list and the reason 80% goes back into fundraising costs is because the CHARITIES hire this company to fund raise for them. my goodness... people are so quick to jump to conclusions. if the company didn't call NO ONE would know about the charities they call for & they'd have 0 money. it's your right obviously to state your opinions on here, but so much isn't factual!

Yeah most of these sound like what happened to me & my other half. This has been going on for months, but since he agreed to donate he felt obligated even though our finances took a turn for the worse. The calls progressed to where we just stoped answering the phone. This week the calls drastically increased & tonight took the cake. These so called employees on here criticize us for answering our own phones that we pay the bill to. Well when the ACS calls approximately 15 times between 6pm-8pm & your 5 years old is now trying to go to sleep for school and the phone still continues to ring after 8pm, you get tired of hearing it. So I answered out of concern for my child gettng enough rest to learn. The lady asked for my other half & after hearing it wasthe breast cancer something I informed them that he was not available & he works nights. She said okay & hung up. 5 min later the same lady called saying she was from ACS, not knowing what that was I told them he was not home. 5 min later THE SAME LADY CALLS so I asked what ACS is, again I say he isn't here. a few min later another call the same lady using a different name. I call her on her bs by saying you just called several times he aint here. She dismisses it & rudely says she didnt & she aint the only 1 working in the office. I tell her she has the same voice. She gets mad spews more words as she hangs up. 5 min later the broad calls back, so I ask who is this really cause charities don't operate like this. We exchanged words & as she was hanging up I told her not to call back this number was under my name. 2 min later my phone rings AGAIN. I answer,Hello silence on the other end so I say hello again. Then a faint rustle like the phone was passed & a man got on the phone identifying himself as being with AC services. I told him I have received 9 calls in the last hour from them & to remove this name & number from their listing & do not call again. Guess I'll have to see if they did tommorrow as it was 9pm by that time & the calls usually stop by 9pm. Charities give a significant amount of their donations to this company to get donations. The question is how much $$ in donations are they losing out on by the collection agency tactics that this company uses to get the donations. I am glad my other half only wrote the check & never got the chance to mail it because WE WON'T BE DONATING TO THIS CHARITY OR ANY OTHER THAT USES ACS because of how they harrassed my home.
When asked how much of a donation goes toward the cause and how much goes toward overhead, I was told that 20% goes toward the cause and 80% goes toward overhead. I am a breast cancer survivor and am absolutely appauled that they use this awful disease to make a profit. Please do donate to support breast cancer but not to this company. Do your research. Check out the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation. 100% of all donated funds go directly toward breast cancer research. Check out their financials online. Thanks for listening.

I have been getting these calls for months. Sometimes they ask for a person not at this residence or use wrong first name but correct last name, sometimes they don't. Saying I have won millions of $$ or a Mercades, and for me to call a certain number. I reported it to our phone company and our State attorney General. They said 866 area code is Jamaica, there is nothing the US can do. Wonder why not? Phone company said change your number, but that is alot of trouble. I just hang up.

Only give your $$$ to people YOU contact. If you want to help out, find a legit. charity and give to them. The Salvation Army is mine. They help and are legit. I would NEVER give ANY $$$ to someone who called me! YOU NEVER KNOW WHERE IT GOES!!! As for some of the people on here stating that they "work for this company," I think that they should be placing calls and not checking out this site to see what is "going on" here. "Anonymous" [below] states the sad story of being "parentless". I am sorry for that but, this is not the place to write a sad story and pull at our heart strings. Most of us hate our jobs and have lost our parents. To me, it sounds like a scam. These people are always trying out something new to get into our wallets. Sleep well knowing [that] you gave to a place of YOUR choice. Do not burden yourself wondering where the $$$ is going by sending it to shady callers. Research them and give the right way if you want to help. Now get back to work... Bob

Female caller claims to be "Paige Agee" with "Associated Community Services, 29777 Telegraph Road, Southfield, MI 48034". Charlie, "Not so fast", and Sheila Vangower (see comments below) are almost certainly correct as I have received over 400 illegal calls from debt collectors in the past year; this is probably another one. (They are all scammers; I have no debts.) This could be another one trying to collect information. (Note that Google Maps lists 137 businesses at this address. "Associated Community Services" is not one of them.)

Odd, upon doing some more research, this is among the companies that provides residence confirmation for debt-collectors. The activity itself is illegal, but as long as they identify themselves as the charity, they are not liable. I do not recommend talking to these people.

Hello all!
I just wanted to say that I work for acs and I'm never rude to customers even if prospects don't want to donate...I remeberr being scolded by my supervisor for being "too nice" to ppl on the phone...but I will say this
The breast cancer charities of america is a legit non profit charity whose registered with the state attorney generals office
Acs is HIRED BY THIS CHARITY TO FUNDRAISE ON THEIR BEHALF there has to be some contribution to acs who is doing the hard work for this non profit, its no different from when we hire someone to do something for us and we have to pay them
Please do your research on the national do not call registry because we are calling on behalf of non profits NOT TO SELL YOU ANYTHING
Just because we are telemarketers doesn't mean we are not human with feelings being rude to a telemarketer is not going to stop the calls...learn the words PLEASE AND THANK YOU
If you are busy, don't have time to talk, its a bad time, etc...why are you answering the phone I don't understand...people know by now that any they do not have friends with 800 or 866 numbers so don't scold us like we forced you guys to answer the phone
My advise would be to do your research on a charity before you criticize it as being a scam despite donors saying "I DON'T RESPOND TO PHONE SOLICITORS" in reality everything is solicited to you by mail, commercials,tv, internet even for other charities such as susan g koleman.....breast cancer charities of america helps with way more than just research ppl are donating billions of dollars to research when we have young ladies who can't even get the things they need NOW SUCH AS CHEMOTHERAPY.....some of you prospects should really look at the bigger picture

2009-12-11 19:04:48 UTCMark
I can't believe anyone would be so gullible as to make a donation to any solicitor that calls on the phone. How hard is it for you to find a reputable organization to make your donations to anyway? It is real easy to find a legitimate charity - one that does not conceal their identity or mailing address and answers your questions without reservation, and one that YOU called, not some stranger that called you (And why does anyone give out their address to strangers calling on the phone? -- DUH!). Don't fall for these phone scams! If they make you feel like donating, hang up and find a real charity that you know is honest and actually has a mailing address.
2009-12-10 05:42:55 UTCBilly
I am so glad I checked here before I sent in my donation. Like the rest of you I want my donation to go toward helping to find a cure for this horrfic disease and not just to pad the payroll of some telemarketing company.

Got a call from Associated Community Services raising money for the Breast Cancer Charities of America. They said they don't take donations over the phone, they'd send an envelope and how much could I send; $20, $30, or $40. I said I could do $20 (which I never agree to give money when I get these calls, but its a worthy cause). I asked for the company name again (ACS)and she said they (the charity) are registered with the MA Attorney General, blah, blah. She says she's going to transfer me to a customer service rep. who will confirm my name and address to take me off their calling list so I don't keep getting calls - sounded good to me. The customer service rep. confirms the info and then asks if I'll be able to return the money within a week. I said, "That's possible." Then she says, "Well how 'bout 2 weeks, would that be more comfortable for you? Or 2 to 3, do you think you could do 3 weeks?" This seemed strange and I was getting uncomfortable and annoyed so I said, "Does it really matter as long as you get the money?" This person then says something really quick, like "No" or "okay" I don't remember because she then HUNG UP on me!
Got the info in the mail and a perfectly fine followup call making sure I got it - told them I hadn't looked at it yet. Just came online to try to find out how much will actually make it to the charity. Not really finding what I wanted to see to make me comfortable with giving $$ to them. Sorry BCCA, could be a legit charity, but maybe ACS isn't the right "professional" fundraiser for you. Bullying and pushyness usually turns most people OFF.

anita-thank you :]
and no one should have told you not to donate to the website. you definitely can! if you do, as far as i know, it all goes to the charity. we're not calling FROM the charity, it's a company that calls on BEHALF of them. the charity is totally legit, so i hope that no one thinks of of the charity just because of the phone calls.

ok, that explains why I was told not to contribute via the Charity's own web site. I commend you for working a job, hon, but when I contribute to a charity I want all the money to go to that charity. I guess the lesser-knowns figure that 20 cents on the dollar is better than nothing.

i work for this place. have for a couple weeks now.
yes, i am unfortunately a telemarketer.
well call on behalf on different charities, the BCCA being one of them. i only took this job because i am a student and parentless thanks to some unfortunate circumstances and just trying to make my way in the world. i choose to work instead of mooching off the gov't because i believe it's the honorable thing to do seeing as i'm able to work. i am working my way through school, i'm really young and essentially parentless! i'm a good person and everyday i feel TERRIBLE going into this place and asking people for monye knowing good & well, most of it doesn't go to the charity. i cry at night over it but i don't have a choice because i can't be choosy about jobs until i finish school! i have been looking for a job non-stop and i can't wait until the day i no longer have to work in this place. it's tacky and unprofessional and i laughed when someone here mentioned the thing about yelling "PERCENTAGE" cuz that's exactly what we do. we have to scream it until a supervisor comes over.
please, just be nice when speaking with us. most people are there cuz they have no deisre to do anything more with their lives than this, but i have dreams and aspirations that i WILL reach and this is just another hiccup in life that i'm trying SO HARD to get over. long story short; we really are decent people and money does actually go to the charity.
also- we are exempt from the national DNC list cuz we're on behalf of a charity.
and it IS a legit charity! there's a website, tax id#, all that stuff. log story short, the company is hired to call on behalf of lesser known charities.

Decided to tear up check after seeing donation was going to UPS PO box. These posts help solidify my decision. I donate to the Susan G. Koman walk every year.
2009-11-17 01:07:53 UTCMM
Just got a call from a lady for Breast Cancer Charities of America. I was happy to make a donation to this cause but was a little concerned when it sounded like a party in the background. It sounded like she covered the phone and told the people to Shut Up. That was red flag number one. Red flag number two is they called a little after 7pm from 866-398-8233 and it showed up as "not provided" on caller ID. I asked if this was like the Susan G Koman charity and she said they are associated with many charities. She insisted that the donations had to be sent with a pre-printed amount for the state to track and for it to be tax deductible. Then another lady came on to verify donation amounts and information and stressed that the donation had to be returned within a week of receiving the donation card. That sounded a little odd to have to promise the donation will be sent within a week of receiving the information. I googled the charity and actually found a website but the mission statements and information are extremely ambiguous and even said "and like things of the sort". That doesn't sound very professional. I am curious to see what information I will actually receive and if it matches the website.

Female rep called and said she was with Breast Cancer Carities of America and asked about a donation. Declined then changed my mind. She really pushed for a commitment of a dollar amount and when I didn't commit, she said she would send the pre-printed donation form for $20. Of course if I could send more (but not less??) I could do so. She said my donation was tax deductible. Then a supervisor got on the line and verified all of the information (name, address, etc.) that the rep verified a minute before. Oh, and they wanted to know if I would be sending a check or money order. I can't imagine a legitimate reason for needing to know that now! Glad I googled them before I forgot! The $20 I pledged will be going to my local food bank instead.

I Got the same call about breast cancer charities of america. I got a little suspicious and inquired about a license number for the charity and only got the 8663988233 number as their answer. I said I would check them out once their info got to me and I checked them out. Still waiting for info ,but decided to check them out. Thank you all of you who posted info it has answered my inquiry. I'll send my money to The National Cancer Society.

Over the last several months, I received phone call after phone call in addition to the mail solicitations. Although I asked to have my name removed because they were not listed on a philanthropic website, Breast Cancer Charities of America kept calling. So I called the number that was listed on this site and a very pleasant women answered and said she would take care of it right away. The number is (281) 296-5755. Thanks for the information!

I got a call from 866-398-8233 on Nov 9, 2009, 7pm. She said she was with Associated Community Services and was raising funds for Breast Cancer Charities of America. She said her name is "Brandy McSwain" (that's a good one) and is located in Michigan. She asked me if I would commit to giving something, or if they could send me material, or something like that (I was half asleep, don't remember exactly). I said no, but then asked for a number so I could call back. She said no, but offered to call me back. I said don't do that. A quick Google search turned up secstate.wa.gov
from Washington (state) Sec. of State's office. This is a "Commercial Fundraiser Profile Report" for Associated Community Services. The report says the company is located in Michigan, and that in 2008 38% of contributions went to the charity clients of this company. That's nice!

Some people have reported this number belongs to Breast Cancer Charities of America, but my phone lists them as "unavailable." If they're legitimate, why don't they identify themselves? I've reported them to the Do Not Call website.

80% of the money you give to this charity goes for "administrative expenses and fundraising" according to the manager that was put on the line when I challenged the caller about the amount of their funds that go for their stated purpose. Only 20% goes to their reported charitable activities.

Thank God for the internet. I received a call while in the shower. Dripping wet, answered the phone.
When I tried to explain the situation and ask the caller to take me off the call list she
talked over me and without agreeing to take me off the call list hung up while I was still
speaking. I called Ms.Erika Harvey below at the number. She did answer and apologize and promise

I received a call from this person stating that they were collecting money to send care packages to the troops. Originally they were calling for my brother but because he wasn't home I took the call. I told them they could send the envelope with the donation information, but I thought it was weird that they wanted to know how much money I was donating. They even said I could donate $20, $40, or $60. Well, I usually donate about $5 or so whenever I can to different charities and I thought it was weird because the other ones have the "other" option. I finally agreed to donate $20 but being a full time college student that is kinda hard for me. The man on the phone said things like "God bless you" and continued to tell me that if I didn't return the pledge I would have my information turned over to some government officials so that immediately set off alarms in my head. Who threatens donors? The lady that verified my information along with my amount stated herself as the breast cancer society, which I thought was weird because it was different when this man stated. It was some Navy organization with him. The lady did not say anything about supporting the troops. I decided I would look into this organization before the information came in the mail to see if it's legit and so far I am convinced this is a scam. I received information in the mail that this is for the breast cancer charities and no word is mentioned about the troops. I've decided to shred these papers and instead donate my $20 to a real charity that is supporting the troops.

answered and no one there. If this is the usual charity fund raiser, they are actually "boiler plate " outfits - they always get 80% and give the charity they "represent" 20% - well, maybe they give the 20% if the charity is lucky. Unfortunately the charities usually allow their name to be used because for NO investment (people to volunteer to do the calling, mailing, etc) they are supposed to receive the 20%. Before donating to ANY charity its a good idea to check with one of the sites that can tell you what happens to your money - what a waste to be sucked in by one of these "fund raisers"!

In their intro on the call, they used the term "professional fundraiser" which made me suspicious. I instinctively asked how much of my donation would go to the charity. The caller covered the mouthpiece and yelled out "PERCENTAGE" and said they'd connect me with their supervisor. During the short wait I could hear the other callers, Boiler Room style. The supervisor made me ask the question again to which he answered 20%. 20%!! I told him we make direct donations to several breast cancer orgs, as we do, and then told him his organization should be ashamed of keeping 80% of the donations to turn around on 20% to the charity. I then hung up in disgust.

Not sure what the number is now, but the caller identified themselves as Breast Cancer Charities for America. They asked for pledge amounts of $20, 30, and 40. I went online to try and find out more - but they were soliciting for pledges, had the wrong name and address. Call showed as 800 Service. Said it was The Breast Cancer Charities of America helping fund mammograms, medical equipment and other financial help to women with breast cancer that have financial needs. (anyone with breast cancer in my mind has financial needs because of the astronomical costs). I asked what areas they help in and was told because they're national, they just appear like superman wherever help is needed. I told her it's a worthy cause. My sister died of breast cancer earlier this year and certainly could've used some financial help. I told her I wanted to check out the charity and to send me some information. I could not find a website for them. Looks like a scam. I'll donate to my local area charities. My sister was given some gas cards from the American Cancer Society, and got to stay in the Susan G. Komen house next to her hospital while having some treatment, which she found to be very nice.

Call to answering machine 18:00 15Sep leaving no message. There seems to be a confusion of information in the previous Comments, the most worrisome being the disparity between reported PO boxes in shipping stores and the official Breast Cancer Charities of America donation address in The Woodlands, Texas. And then there are the two id reports of this number as belonging to AC Services. Add to that the caller ID of "NOT PROVIDED" and something seems to stink a little. Seems better to go with a sure thing, perhaps directing a contribution through BCCA's website instead.

Got suspicious when I realized the mailing address was a UPS store in McKinney Texas (Dallas) and the "headquarters" is in The Woodlands Texas (Houston). I can't find anything about them online - a YouTube video - not much help and there is a listing for a position needed at their headquarters (administrative assistant)but the job has been made inactive. This "charity" has no website and when you call the information number (1-866-375-8393) they want you to provide all your personal information and wait 10 days for them to contact you. I don't think so -
SCAM! Donation paperwork looks offical - Don't donate!!!! Sorry I answered the phone after 7:00pm - I knew better!

Looked this one up - but didn't actually answer the call - I'm collecting my own database of these numbers.

Looking at the other comments below, it suggests that any single, toll-free number that is traceable to so many different addresses around the country in sow few calls makes it suspect in my mind. See Webster's Dictonary under "fly by night"

I got the same call. Since it was for Breast Cancer I thought ok send me and I will make the pledge. I am not a believer that a Charity organization would have a local PO Box at a UPS Store.

I made the mistake of not letting my machine pick this one up. While I do believe donating for breast cancer is a worthy cause. As far as I can make out Breast Cancer Charities is for real. However, that doesn't mean this number is really them calling. Even if it is really for them, it is probably a telemarketing outfit that they hire. Anyway I never make pledges over the phone except when I cough up my yearly $25 to my National Public Radio station. So even if they are for real, they won't get a cent from me that way.
2009-08-28 02:50:49 UTCGlenn N
I don't know that this is a scam. Charities use other companies to make phone calls and process mailings, so none of the comments here have convinced me that they are a scam.
whois.net tells me that thebreastcancercharities.org is registered to Gregory Anderson in Hershey, PA, and this site was created in March 2009. His email address is @cancerrecovery.org; whois.net tells me that this domain is held by another man in Hershey, PA, and is affiliated with Cancer Recovery Foundation of America. No proof of veracity so far. But I find that Cancer Recovery Foundation has been around since 1985, and American Institute of Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) tells me that Cancer Recovery Foundation has supplied documentation to AIP. So I conclude that an affiliate charity is legitimate - therefore I will donate to Breast Cancer Charities of America, although perhaps I should've chosen to give money to a better known charity.

My 16 yr old son answered the phone and spent a bit of time talking to the person. I have no idea what they said, but he said that he was going to donate money for Breast Cancer. (I have a very philanthropic teenager) A few days later, we got a letter in the mail with a reasonably professional looking letter with a donation confirmation and a return slip to mail the money. Since my son doesn't have a checking account, he was going to put cash in the envelope. I checked out the address and it says it is a postal box at a Pack & Ship place in Fresno, CA. I just had this feeling to do some checking before I let him mail it. I don't see any kind of website for this organization, they are not on any lists I could find on other Breast Cancer charities, so I'm not going to mail them the money. I'll direct my son to one of the more reputable charities if he still feels he wants to contribute something. I'm glad I found this site. I may use it more often.

Also, there
This is a call center for foundations
Get several calls every day...all hang ups. No recorded message...no one there ..just hang ups. What A**holes to give a good charity such a bad rap. How childish. I hope they are proud of themselves & sleep well at night for all the harassing calls
they make.
How do we get them to stop?
I have told them numerous times to take me off their lists, they call 15 times a day. I emailed BBB yesterday. I'm so tired of these calls. I will never give to a charity over the phone again because of the harassment from these people
I make a contribution 4-5 times a year and this time I trashed the return portion of the address. To get a hold of anyone, for the return address is next to impossible, and mind bending. I would think the Breast Cancer Charities would make it a bit more possible for people to get a hold of them for information.
We received over 10 phone calls today from this number. However, they have also used the number 8664011569, over the last two weeks we received over 50 phone calls from this number. I am on the donotcall phone list-what a joke!
It sounds like you would make a perfect A>C>L>U lawyer = good luck
so, you think it's a scma because your donation is sent to a po box? all the charities have a headquarters, yes, but the donations are sent to local po boxes to keep your donations in YOUR area.
you people act like you'll NEVER get in a situation where you'll have to take a job like this. smh... sad & judgmental. and for all these "get a real job" jabs. um, i'm a senior in college and going to law school. real enough for you?

They harassed me continually calling 4-5 times a day. I finally put a block on my line. Real crappy way to do business folks!!!! No I will NEVER EVER EVER donate to Breast Cancer Resrearch again because of your shitty practices!!! You want people to have compassion for you, well have some economic compassion for those of us who hit hard times!!!!! FUCK YOU!!!!!
Call after call after call. Why not show the name of the charity? Why unavailable on ID? I don't give to charities who call and bother me at home. How can we make it stop??????
Identified themselves as Breast Cancer Charity-never heard of them
I am just as sorry as I can be for parentless telemarketers and penniless students and even prostitutes trying to stay off streetcorners, but the fact is that these are scam operations, they have been in business in one manifestation or another since Roman times, in our parents' generation they were selling vacuum cleaners, magazine subscriptions, encyclopedias, Bibles or anything else they could scam. America has a gullible public or we would never have had a war criminal and torturer for a President, either--or we would have hanged him and half of his administration by now, anyway. JUST SAY NO! The lives you save may be your own. It has been my experience--and I have been a social worker for a public welfare agency--that only your local United Way provides any meaningful oversight to charities--attorneys general just do not have the time or manpower to address telesolicitation.
wanted donation of either $5, $10, or $25 will send card with a week -10 days
said they were registered with DE state's attorney generals office
Call everyday at various times, even on Sunday. Am on do not call list, will report. Worked for a non-profit organization and found out what a rip off they are.
who wants to give 80% to organization for profit to give 20% for breast cancer- find the source and give it to them- dont be stupid with ur money
&go with the ones that mainly use volunteers so that the bulk of the $$ goes to the charity!!
nothing about this is a scam. what proof do you have that it's a scam? no laws are being broken. charities need not obey the DNC list and the reason 80% goes back into fundraising costs is because the CHARITIES hire this company to fund raise for them. my goodness... people are so quick to jump to conclusions. if the company didn't call NO ONE would know about the charities they call for & they'd have 0 money. it's your right obviously to state your opinions on here, but so much isn't factual!
They called and then sent me two pledge cards.
and for these "real job" stabs people keep giving us. what jobs?! we live in michigan! so many of us are really young & in college. who's hiring people with no degree? seriously, we're just trying to make an honest living
and if you guys think your donations to larger, more well known charities is going 100% to the cause, you're mistaken! they spend SO MUCH on advertising! i believe the red cross only uses 13% directly for the various causes. they're a great charity and totally reputable, but i mean, so much of the stuff i just read is so untrue!
i work for this company.
we are good people. the charities are not SCAMS. we are LEGITIMATE. they're smaller charities and we fundraise for them. we are real people, with real feelings and people are so mean it's unbelievable. i'm sorry if you spoke to someone rude, but most of the people i worth with are lovely people, just trying to make a living in this economy. do you guys really think people strive to be telemarketers? no. this is a great cause, it's not a scam or fake. and we have NO CONTROL over what time you get a call or how many. it's an automatic dialing system driven by computers. we're just relaying a message.
These people have called so many times that I finally got a telebouncer that plays a message saying to take this number off the call list and they still call! I am getting really fed up with the numerous daily calls.
Sorry--here's that link:
csn.cancer.org
This link has helpful details regarding these clowns.
A man had started his marketing pitch and I said not interested & hung up. I'm on the DNC list, but they don't care.
Thanks to the others for letting us know what's going on with this scam.
This is ( thebreastcancercharities.org ) Breast Cancer Charities of America.
Left No Msg! I have NEVER given to the Breast Cancer or ANY OTHER CHARITY! IF I ever decide to answer they Will Not Like What I Will Say!
And to Barbie 13 comments below....GET A REAL JOB and STOP BOTHERING PEOPLE!
PS: Why does "anonymous" not use their real name? Or, even better yet, just use a fake name? That in itself sends up a red flag for me!
Bob
Caller identifies themself only as Breast Cancer Charities of America and caller ID number (866) 398-8233. When you ask them to remove you from their list of callers, one person swore at me and hung up and another simply stated "well that wouldnt be helpful to me" and hung up.
Caller ID: (866) 398-8233
Caller Company: Breast Cancer Charities of America
Caller Type: Non-Profit Organization
i'm told this is a fake charity and these people are information hunters for collection agencies. Your best bet is to not answer or get on and be rude to them like they are to you. Just don't say yes if they ask you any information that is correct because they are getting exactly what they want if you do that.
Called this morning. No one was one the line. Like everyone else, I do not donate money over the phone and I am very active in our local ACS so naturally this is where I contribute. Why don't these people get a real job?
I asked who the money went to--she said the ladies who need help who have breast cancer--no charitie was named. She said it was called The Breast Cancer Charities.org. (not Breast Cancer Charities of America!)I work for a charity and do not trust this so called charity--not enough info is given to the donor.
I no longer answer this number. Those unpleasant people do not understand "do not call me" and "I do not donate money over the phone".
When I was first asked to donate, I said yes to a 20 dollar donation. Two different girls spoke to me and told me the only thing they'd ask is that I mail the donation in as soon as I received the paperwork. I received another phone call today asking if the mail had arrived. They were very concerned and asked for my address again. I had a funny feeling from the beginning that I was being pushed. Do you think I'm being scammed?
call them back from a payphone. it costs them money. as much as .75 cents for each connect
hahahahahhahaha
Go to charitynavigator.org. I can't find an entry for this farce. Very tired of charities calling me. If it's not Infocision for the Heart Association, is ACS for a fake charity.
I am so glad I checked here before I sent in my donation. Like the rest of you I want my donation to go toward helping to find a cure for this horrfic disease and not just to pad the payroll of some telemarketing company.
Thanks so much.
Just received a phone call from Breast Cancer Charities of America. As others thought it was a charitable cause. However, not 5 minutes has passed and I received another phone call from an unknown number also claiming they were for the breast cancer relief. I explained I just received a call form BCCA, and the woman on the phone apologized & said it must be another organization. For me it is to coincidental. I will send money to local charities or Susan G Komen foundation
I just rec'd same call that everyone on this page is talking about. The 2 women I spoke with were very, very nice and personable but, I too thought I should google before I send in my $20.00. Haven't rec'd the donation card yet but would like to know just what makes this organization seem shady before I do recieve my pledge card? Thank you!
Sounds to me from everyone's comments that this is at best"questionable". I rec'd the pledge infor in the mail, but believe I will continue to contribute to our local Cancer Society organization. I was attempting to find out how much of the pledge went to admin and it's sounding more and more as tho admin gets the major portion, although I never did find that info on their web page. Thanks to all who wrote ... made my decision easier.
Just received a bill for $20 that my 9 year old pledged over the phone. The return address is a UPS Store PMBox 560,Plainsboro NJ. What a joke! After reading the comments below, it is sad that people will go this far. If you, the establishment that called my home, read these posts, please quit harassing people! I do make contributions to reputable charities, but I don't believe a dime of any money sent to a ups store post office box will ever make it to the Breast Cancer Charitiy of America.
A quick Google search turned up
secstate.wa.gov
from Washington (state) Sec. of State's office.
Breast Cancer Charities of America lengthly recorded message when called back. There is no way of opting out of future phone calls. It will prompt for leaving a message and that is it.
She did answer and apologize and promise
to follow up on who was rude to me and take me off the list. So. I don't know if they
are legitimate or not, but I know for sure that they have at least one very rude telephone
solicitor.
This company does skip trace work under the umbrella of being a charity.. Unbelievable scum ... Maybe someone can convince some of the cops "patrolling" the internet for porn (and there are alot on duty ..and off-duty that patrol) look into these scams...
This is a scam-and not an authorized-properly credentialed charity.
We never answer toll free calls, but if this is from a cancer organization, give to a cancer hospital such as MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. You'll know where the money goes when giving to a place such as theirs.
A Message from Erica Harvey, Executive Director of the Breast Cancer Charities of America:
The Breast Cancer Charities of America (BCCA) is a non-profit organization with global headquarters in The Woodlands, Texas. With over 25 years of experience in the non-profit industry, BCCA promotes the treatment and prevention of breast cancer through nutrition and fitness by raising funds for non-invasive research, in addition to supporting women in financial need through our Help Now Fund. BCCA rely on public financial support to fund these important breast cancer initiatives.
BCCA is a 501(c)(3) registered non-profit organization. For more information, please visit, TheBreastCancerCharities.org or call 281.296.5755.
answered and no one there.
This number calls all the time. And we don't answer 800 or 866 or any number we don't know. So answering machine picks up. Am going on the Wells Fargo website and request to opt out on the privacy. So, that they can't call, or sell my name to any list they want to.
Did not understand why the address is in Texas and I am mailing a check to a UPS store in NJ; check should be going to a headquarters-must be a scam. I will not be sending a check, but will redirect my money to a local organization in support.
called at 9:34am. Missed the call-no msg. was left.
This is most definitely NOT a charity. It is a skip tracer for Wells Fargo Bank. It is pitiful that a taxpayer-bailed out company is using an emotionally-charged issue (breast cancer) to chase their customers.
Not sure what the number is now, but the caller identified themselves as Breast Cancer Charities for America. They asked for pledge amounts of $20, 30, and 40. I went online to try and find out more - but they were soliciting for pledges, had the wrong name and address. I automatically assumed it was legit, and gave them my address to send the pledge in the mail but because they had an incorrect name.

Received call identifying herself as Breast Cancer Charities of America. I told her I have breast cancer and am going through treatments and that I give to the Breast Cancer Organization. She yawned really loud and said "So I guess you won't give us any thing?" and hung up. SCAM. Contact the FTC at ftc.gov and lodge a complaint against them.
Seems better to go with a sure thing, perhaps directing a contribution through BCCA's website instead.
harassing call by a gang stalker
BUT -
Looking at the other comments below, it suggests that any single, toll-free number that is traceable to so many different addresses around the country in sow few calls makes it suspect in my mind. See Webster's Dictonary under "fly by night"
I got the same call. Since it was for Breast Cancer I thought ok send me and I will make the pledge. I got my pledge in the mail and in making out the check I seen that the return address was to a PO BOX at the UPS Store in Dallas, TX. Yeah no I tore my check up. I am not a believer that a Charity organization would have a local PO Box at a UPS Store.
I made the mistake of not letting my machine pick this one up. While I do believe donating for breast cancer is a worthy cause. After doing some very basic searches, I'm just not convinced that these people are for real. I'll be shredding their contribution letter and contribute to a better known charity instead.
These wankers keep calling, despite my request to stop calling me.
Very pleasant man ( AT FIRST) explaining how the want to help the cause of breast cancer victims. I told him "sorry - no." He made a derisive comment and hung up. Obviously not a legit organization to have someone so unprofessional working for them.
Calls many times. Claims to calling for breast cancer. Caller unprofessional. Obviously a scam
This is a scam. They claim to be breast cancer charities of america, next week they'll be asking money for child burn victims again. They try to lure you into giving out personal and financial information for "easy" donation options. Total scam, fraudulent phishing, blatent violators of the Telecommunications Act and the DNC rules. They just as well change their caller ID to SCAMMER.
It showed up on my caller id as UNKNOWN and when I called back I also got the breast cancer message. But when I answered a woman, Burnadette proceeded to lay out a lot of BS to me. I asked if it was possible to donate in someone elses name, due to having loved ones with breast cancer and she said i could put down any name I wanted as long as I honored my donation. I say SCAM!
I called the number and got a recorded message from The Breast Cancer Charities of America.
Better Charities for America (or close to the name) Said they were doing their pink ribbon campaign and if they sent me ribbons would I honor a pledge for breast cancer. I told her I deal directly with any charities I select and never give to unsolicited callers. Woman asked, "Why not?" So I told her...bogus organizations, thieves, if legit - these organizations skim most of the money from donations for themselves. She said ok. I am on do not call registry and hate these unidentified calls which I almost never pick up - let them go to voicemail. What an abuse. Showed on my Caller ID as "800 Service" with the number displayed
I don't have an answering machine, but this number showed up on my caller ID as "Toll-free call."
Called around 4:30 PM CDT. No message left.
