The number is now in my computer program PhoneTray which will answer this number the next time they call, give them a piece of my mind, and hang up. All that's needed is a Fax/Data/Voice/CallerID modem and the program. Check it out at: www.phonetray.com

02-22-2013 @ 10:16 AM, 849-963-4865, NAME NOT FOUND = When I got home, saw where this number had called. Wife said she didn't pick up. Checked answering machine, and it was off, so they couldn't leave a message if they wanted to. Internet search on AC 849 revealed this call originated in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, which means nothing but damn scammers. I've received 3-4 calls a month ago from the same area (849-963-4853) with same Caller ID as NAME NOT FOUND. This is usually a robocall, and a woman with a very heavy accent. Like other bloggers have stated, they hand up hoping you'll call back so you can be billed astronomical long distance charges for the call. Best to just let it ring. One trick I use when I do answer is when they start talking, I hit the # key on the phone, which produces a very annoying beep. You can use short beeps, or a long one for as long as you want to hold the button down. Usually by the 3rd or 4th beep, they hang up. If it's a robocall, they'll continue to talk. In that situation, just give them the raspberry's and hand up.

I received a call from this number today.

My number is on the Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) national Do Not Call registry.

It is likely a fake telephone number but that does not matter. It does not matter what the live or automated (robo) caller says, it is likely false information until you are sucked in. After you return the call to the number they provide (or punch the number they suggest), you find out the real reason and originator of the call.

EVERY TIME I receive an unwanted call such as this one I report it to the FTC using its online complaint format. It doesn't matter if it is a fake number or not. I provide the date, time of the call, what the Caller ID displayed and the message if there was one. This action lets the FTC know that people are tired of unwanted calls - and if the FTC want the reports to them to stop - or be reduced- they must stop the unwanted calls by imposing heavy fines or allowing the commercial providers such as Verizon, etc. to block the numbers.

These SPAM companies/individuals know that most people will not bother to complain to the FTC - that is what they are relying on. Thus, they stay under the FTC's radar. Complaining to this website, other than identifying the caller and letting others know they are not unique, does little to stop the calls.

If more people would complain to the FTC and not just complain on this forum, the FTC WILL take action against these annoying callers. The FTC does not act on one complaint alone. It takes many complaints before they will take action - but they DO take action if enough citizens complain.

You, too, can submit a report at:
complaints.donotcall.gov

After reaching the website, click on "Continue" which is located in the center of the page near the bottom. Fill out the form by following the instruction carefully. It only takes a minute of your time.

Don't just get mad and vent on this website; get even by reporting the number to the FTC.

Someone called but didn't answer the phone. If I don't know you, you will not be talked to. I do not accept phone calls from unavailable or name unavailable or anything..if I don't know you, you will not be talked to and I can careless what the hell you are trying to sell. If I owe something mail the paperwork to me otherwise get a real job and leave all of us alone - LOSER!

This number called today (2/21/2013) at 1:02pm ET. I never answer calls from unknown numbers or names...especially when the caller's name is "Name Not Found". Total jerks. People should ONLY answer calls from friends and places they do business with and NO ONE ELSE. I'm surprised that some people are naive enough to answer these calls and get scammed. If a call is a "local" number that you do not recognize you are usually safe in answering it, but that is the exception.

Same routine as everybody else got. Three rings then hang up. I too am on the National Do Not Call Registry.

Did a reverse look up on this number to no avail. It's registered to the Dominican republic but no names are available. This is the third call from this number. I've texted that i have a do not call registered number and receive that the number is a land line but no other information. Thanks to caller ID we do not answer these fools.

I receive a call occasionally - caller ID is Dom Repub caller so assume a telemarketer but phone only rings 3 times so machine doesn't kick on before it hangs up. I can't understand why a telemarketer would make the call and then quit so quickly as most people may not get to the phone by that time even if they don't have caller ID.

Got a call from this number but no name or message.

February 14th, 2013 Joellen KS

I received two calls from this number today. Both times, when I picked up nobody answered. I believe I am on the national do not call registry, but just re-registered to be sure.

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker or something like Nomorobo.
