I amk very sorry Steven D Fredrickson about blowing your Spoof-Calling pranks two years ago, now everyboby knows. And having several Attorney General's investigating your company but your a wimp. It is now time to pay your debt to society. "If you can't do the time, don't do the crime, don't do it", remember that song, little man. To bad, so sad, you're not bad, ha, ha, wimp. We are going to find out who the "bald-face liar" is (YOU). THE RATTLESNAKE WAS HERE.

Keep getting calls from this number as they are trying to contact my ex-wife. I have told them repeatedly that she does not live her and that we have been divorced for 4 yrs and to take my number off of the contact list but the calls still keep coming, several times a day usually beginning around 8 AM.

Same scenario. I rec'd 32 phone calls on my cell phone in a 3 day period - starting at exactly 8:00 a.m. until 8:49 p.m. Very rarely leave messages. I admit, my Discover card payment was late by 7 days.

This call came to my cell phone. When I answered, there was no response, so I hung up.

FIRST - everyone receiving calls from this bunch of blood suckers should know it is _not_ Discover Card, it is a collection agency named Portfolio Recovery Assoc out of Norfolk, VA (with 'spoof' location in Kearns Utah). While they have obviously been put up to this by Discover Card, and represent themselves _as_ 'Discover Card', they are NOT Discover Card (or any other lender/company they claim to represent). Equal complaints should be made against both this organization AND to any company they claim to represent (such as Discover Card) for turning you over to this sort of abusive organization and providing them with your phone numbers given when you set up the account.

Here is what the CEO of this bunch said July 30, 2009, about all of YOU they are robo-dialing:

“This is Steven Fredrickson...some of these comments towards me are childish and shameful, and it doesn't surprise me that those who are deadbeats, would make childish, immature remarks like this. As to our collection procedures...we carefully follow the collection laws of our state and anyone claiming otherwise is a bald faced liar - it is YOU people who should be in prison for being a thief...not me!” (scroll down comments: 800notes.com )

Apparently this company is being sued by the Attorney General of Missouri for fraudulent debt collection practices related to their abusive debt collection procedures.

Secondly – the Kearnes, UT people are using several numbers (such as 801-902-2429; 801-902-2976) both of which geo-locate to LAT 40.67 LONG -112.01 so pull those coordinates up Google Earth and it looks like someone in a residential neighborhood is running these calls out of their home with a Robo-Dialer. The Norfolk, VA coordinates for the home office are Latitude 36.841488°, N 36 ° 50' 29.4" 36 ° 50.4893', Longitude -76.213085 °, W 76 ° 12' 47.1" -76 ° 12.7851'

Now you know where to drop that 'blue-water ice' when you fly over at 30,000 ft ;)

Portfolio Recovery Associates’ website is: portfoliorecovery.com

Now you can start burning up THEIR phone lines and servers with bunches of daily calls and emails !!!

Also – FILE A COMPLAINT PEOPLE !!

US Justice Department
Attn: Steven Curran, Deputy Chief
Criminal Division
950 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Suite
PHB Division
Washington, DC 20530

And to the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) at ftccomplaintassistant.gov

2010-01-15 18:38:53 UTCJim In Ohio

This is NOT - Discover Card, it is a COLLECTION AGENCY that Discover Card has given your name and all the numbers you gave them when you applied for a Discover Card. The company is actually Portfolio Recovery Associates out of Norfolk, VA with a 'spoof' call center in Kearns, UT (typical numbers are 801.902.2976 and 801.902.2429). Best Bet - file a formal complaint against this VERY abusive organization with The US Justice Department, Attention Steven Curran, Deputy Chief, 950 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, CRIMINAL DIVISION, PHB Division, Washington, DC 20503.

I get calls from this number 5 to 6 times a day on my cell phone!! I'm sure they are the same ones calling my home phone all day and not leaving a message also. Very, very annoying!! Left message only one time and they said they need to speak to my husband. He has a Discover card and I am not on the account!! I want to know how in the h..l they got my cell phone number!! If I was to contact them regarding a problem with his account they would not speak to me as I am not an authorized user on the account. What gives them the right to call me then???

I get this number calling my house at least 7 times a day. They are asking for a women that does not live at this address. We do not know her or who she is. Told them not to call again but they still keep calling. Very annoying when you phone rings off the wall all day long and it is this number calling. They only leave a message about once a week. The rest of the time they just hang up.

2009-03-11 18:45:36 UTCpaul

They call early morning to late in evening. I don't get to the phone in time to answer - but they never leave a message.

2009-03-10 21:34:00 UTCsarah

these people have called me not onlly at home but now my cell phone to looking for someone named george and i explained to them that i didnt know who that was and everything and the continued to ask me questions this is rediculious!

2009-02-18 15:07:12 UTCMnaford

I have contacted the FTC and the FCC (and I will continue to do so every time I get a call from Discover)to report repeated telephone calls from Discover looking for someone I have never heard of. This is irresponsible corporate citizenship and rconsumers should not be subjected to their abuse of the communications systems.

2008-12-09 17:22:16 UTCPamela

These Bozos somehow got not only my home, but also my work & my cell number & call several times a day! And it ain't due to a late bill either! I have 1 credit card open with Discover, which I will be cancelling today! The number does belong to Discover. When I see it on my caller ID, I pick up the phone long enough for the "robot" to realize there's a call, then hang it up. I figure I've just wasted a little of their time thinking they got a live one...figure I may as well give some of it back. I let my home phone go to vm, which is digital through Comcast. I can go on-line, see who it is, & delete the message w/out having to wade through it.

A "Stephanie" from Discover Financial Services is repeatedly calling my MINOR child's cell phone and leaving a voice mail message that she needs to immediately return the call. This can't be legit - she's had this number for a year and us suddently inundated with these pesky phone calls.

2008-11-17 23:40:49 UTCBecky

I have a voicemail greeting that details who I am not by listing all the names telemarketers have asked for in the past. If they listen long enough to hear the whole thing and then don't leave a message, I figure the joke's on them.

2008-11-15 22:09:00 UTCJames

My FTC complaint:

"They have been calling been calling me at my home phone several times a day for the greater part of the past week. I have had this number for over 3 years now. My phone would ring several times; sometimes setting off the answering machine and sometimes not. When I would check the caller ID displays for these calls it would display: "Utah" on line one and "801-902-2429" on line two. They usually hang up before the answering machine.

"On Friday, November 14th, they had called once early in the morning; setting off my answering machine but not leaving a message. They called again, several hours later and I was able to catch the call. After saying "hello" several times I was addressed by a name other than my own. I told the caller that there was no one with that name at this household and that I was the owner of this phone number. I told the caller that this was not the first time I had received calls from his phone number, that I had received several calls a day from that number for the past few days and that the calls were annoying and disruptive to me. He proceeded to tell me that they had every right to make the calls because he was a bill collector and not a telemarketer. He finally told me that I WOULD NOT BE CALLED anymore; that my number would be removed from a data file and placed on a do not call list. I have SINCE RECEIVED ANOTHER CALL from this number today, November 11th, at ****."

File yours (you don't have to write something out like I did just fill out the form):

ftccomplaintassistant.gov

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker:
