How do I stop them from calling?
- Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
- If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
- Block them with a call blocker:
Uniden DECT1288 blocks up to 20 numbers, plus Private and Unknown, with the reject tone, without ringing the phone.
Panasonic KX-TG106 blocks up to 30 numbers, plus all unidentified callers, with a busy tone, after the phone rings once.
JF Teck Caller ID with Ring Controller blocks up to 70 numbers, and can be set to always allow up to 100 to ring through.

It was not the Special Olympics directly. It was Dial America calling on behalf of Special Olympics trying to sell magazine subscriptions. I asked what percentage of the sales would actually go to Special Olympics and she said 12%. No thanks; I'd rather donate directly and let them have 100% of my donation.
OK, It may be the "Special Olympics" calling, but it still sounds like a "phishing" scam to me.
Unknown. Numerous calls, but hanging up too quickly to answer or answering machine to pick up.
They did not leave a message. I did not answer my phone.
People selling magazines saying profits go to special olympics. I Never Buy stuff or give any personal Info out over the phone! Not even for charitable purposes. Too many Scamming jackasses out there waiting to screw your life up!
Called asking for money. Told them I was out of work and she asked if I was getting unemployment and if so I was getting money and could help them out. Told her to phuck off and hung up on her.
It's Dial America, a national telemarketer, calling "on behalf of" the Special Olympics. They want to sell you magazine subscriptions. They will keep most of the money (for the service they provide to Special Olympics, you see), some other websites indicate Dial America keeps about 78%, which is not unusual for a telemarketing company working for charities; always give directly to the charity if you care where your money goes.
Been receiving calls from this number for over a month. Different times of day and evening. Screen says caller not provided. Sometimes phone rings twice and hangs up. Very annoying.
still calling every couple days, never leave message. wish would find someone else to call
Just received a call from "Special Olympics" wanting me to purchase a magazine subscription in which 12% would go the "Olympics". I hate telemarketers however what bothers me more is why they refuse to show their names on caller ID. In this day and age who in their right mind would give out personal information over the phone let alone believe that the person that is calling is truly who they say they are!!!
I am tired of these 1-800 calls. Get a life.
I fell for it. Magazine subscription deal, pick out a particular magazine, agree to the paymentschedule choice, then caller says I will receive a letter with bill for mag, etc. Claimed that special olympics Ohio will receive !2% of money from subscription.
Company is selling magazines... has nothing to do with Special Olympics. Told woman to get me off their calling list... woman laughed and hung up. DNC complaints apparently doesn't do any good. I no longer answer the phone. It's too bad that shady idiots like this put real charities in a bad light.
Ringing me everyday now. Can I call block this number?
# is registered to Dial America Marketing. A commission-based magazine renewal and subscription company with not always the best reputation. They give 12 1/2% of sales to charities. That's why you'll sometimes see "Special Olympics" associated with them. The company thinks this gives them some credability.
Rings three times then they hang up.....
I just had a call from this number and I asked repeatedly "who's calling please" and the woman became agitated and refused to tell me who she is unless I told her that I'm the person she's calling. I told her that I have her number I'm reporting her to the FTC.
on 800 notes it says it's a telemarketing company supposedly representing Special Olympics and
trying to get magazine subscriptions.
If you want to donate to Special Olympics, donate to them directly and not through s telemarking
so called partner, who keeps most of the money to cover their services.
Annoying calls; doesn't leave mesage!
I told them the next time they call me, they can visit me at the local county court house
It's called phone spoofing. This is mostly done by collection agencies. They pretend to be someone else and getting enough info from you to create an account. Next thing you will get is a paper threat to pay something in full or go to court. Some of us have been dealing with these bottom feeders for months and years. We have programs that track and trace these numbers and then match them to the time and dates with the phone company. None have matched the actual caller. They also spoof themselves as your neighbors. Advice: take your bill or some proof to the phone provider and have them trace. If you owe money or have ever in the past, you can bet places like these will be faking themselves as someone else to get the data they need. Type:"phone spoofing" in your browser or here's a site for a start: en.wikipedia.org . Everyone should be aware of these activities for their own protection. Also see: "predictive dialers" and "VOIP".
Tired of these calls. They leave no message and just keep calling. I guess the no call list is useless!
No messages, no answer, no nothing.
This is a scammer... they can be calling from anywhere in the world. Do not give your info to them.
NO real way to fight this, unless you can somehow block the number through your phone company.

Some say the number is for special olympics of Ohio. The area code for Ohio is 283 and the number for Canada is 866.Someone called this number and was told the Federal Do Not Call list allows "fundraising calls. "Why would you return a call to someone you don't know and why would the FDNC let them call, when you are on the Do Not call list?
This is called 'telemarking'.Before you call the number call the FDNC and hear what they have to say about it!
Have you received a call from Special Olympics in your home town?THINK ABOUT IT! This is a court case against the Federal Gov.
TOLL FREE. Rang until the machine picked up. Hung up and didn't leave a message.
why do you idiots answer the phone when no caller-id bogus one?
We have been getting tons of calls, not just from this one. Have these organizations not realized that the economy is terrible and there are very few people who are going to donate money that they do not have!!!!
Cant they just leave me alone? I've asked several times to leave me alone. Now i just refuse to answer.
Numerous calls from these folks ...PITA(Pain in the ass) ...I don't do solicitations over the phone and I don't answer when caller ID says UNKNOWN or UNAVAILBLE ...no name then call can't be too important ...if it is then leave a message and when I'm "AVAILABLE" maybe I'll call back !@#%
The number is a telemarketer for the 'Special Olympics of Ohio'. They are requesting donations.
I called them back and a recording said it was "The Special Olympics". Then it gave a toll-free contact number of 1-866-544-4880. Who knows if it's the genuine article or merely a scam. If they call you, then ask them what percentage of the money collected goes directly to the Special Olympics.
I have gotten this call at least 2-3 times per week for about 3 months. It rings 3 times and hangs up before it reaches my answering machine. I fear this is another trend in telemarketing, similar to the "McCain 2008" calls I got continuously where the phone rings once and leaves "McCain 2008" on the caller id (as a campaigning tactic).
Call from the Special Olympics -- thought it was weird? Why not say it in the Caller ID?? Toll Free and Unavailable are comfusing as hell!
If you want people to respect your intensions...then it would only make sense to PROVIDE your "Special Olympics" on Caller ID's...your customer feels tricked right from the start...Americans are generous...they don't need your tricks.
fax call received once or twice daily
Saw the # on my ID - Didn't call back but checked here first.
I've been called several times but a message was never left. If you phone back the message says "Special Olympics" and gives 866-544-4880 as a customer service number. I called that, got through to a human, was told the Federal DNC list allows fundraising calls, but was assured that I would be removed from their call list. We'll see.
Very annoying and disturbing. Called me 3 (#@*$ times tonight! I hate them!
these people suck ass and are annoying as hell
Special Olympics
Asked for Mr. (last name) and hung up.
Oops! It's not HSBC Credit Card Services. It's Special Olympics who called. Just call the number back and tell them that you would like them to remove your number. They are very nice about it and said I may get a few more calls before the number is removed from the system. She did say for me to keep in mind that if I have the number removed, it would keep me from helping the Special Olympics in the future. lol. I'm ok with that. I would contact them directly when I can donate.
Ok this number just called me at 11:07am. Before that at 10:22am I got a call from 800-446-1022 which turned out to be HSBC Credit Card Services upon look up. I suspect it could be the SAME people.
I happened to be home so answered. A lady claiming to be from Special Olympics. I said I wasn't interested in & hung up. Then used my Selective Call Rejection to block the number. :)
i hung up on them
Hung up on my answering machine.
