I think Bridget found out that "settlement" with third party collectors can be like crossing a minefield in snowshoes. (... or diving flippers if you prefer a summer sport) They cannot wait for you to make the slightest error which could get you in trouble, and may even rig the game to ensure a detonation. (Hmm, sorta like the big banks who by proxy dumped you in that field in the first place ...)

Those of you receiving misdirected or abusive calls from a third party debt collector like this bunch may find relief in the provisions of the FDCPA, which regulates collector behavior. Learn your rights at FTC-dot-gov.

I got a call that did not show # on caller ID. I picked up and some guy was looking for my sister-in-law. He told me to tell her to call him @ 800-392-6003, ex. 4006, and that his name is Gary Baker. I don't know who he works for, or what he's got to do with sis, but how did he get my telephone #, it's new and it's supposed to be unlisted?

I received a call from a person name Garry 800-392-6003 EXT 4006 he called me at my cell, requesting a "NANCY" to call back immediatelly for a time sensitive matter. I called back to let them know that is my cell and not Nancy's number, but all I got was questions after questions, could not get through to stop calling me.

I have "settled" a debt with ARS and have 3 payments left. I tried to call my "representative" back yesterday and he was already gone. The "agent" i talked with was almost too busy to try and help me. I am having some difficulties getting these payments (my payment is 64% of my net check being deposited each week and as a result, I am overdrawn in my account) All I wanted to do was try and reduce the final 3 payments. My "representative" was so uncooperative, rude, and when I asked for my number to be changed on their website (under the contacts section, when I am logged in) he said "What do you want it changed to?" after I have submitted 5 requests to do so. I finally hung up on him after he accused me of yelling at him. I am just going to let the payments go and see if my bank will allow them to be taken out any longer.

WILL NOT EVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM AGAIN!

I too received a message from a Chris "Snap?" Last name was mumbled. He left the following message. "...This is Chris Snap I need to speak with you as soon as possible concerning a very time sensitive matter. Please understand that this is not a sales call. My number is 1-800-392-6003 extension 4092. Thank You."

I just received a message from these people stating they want to help me. They have sent over an employment verification that I work for my company with my social security number on it. I can't believe they did this. My ss number was all over the office.

Hmmm- I wonder if "Jennifer" is reading the boards here- at the very least her overlords must be...

The newest message [4/20/2010] I've received is a bit more "cordial" if not "tired" sounding... Gee- did the last call [and then my "promissory note" here strike a nerve? Are they beginning to realize that I've now got something to fight back with?

The Law need merely plod along- bumbling as it may be, making mistakes but dutifully doing it's best, content in its patience for the mendicant to make their one fatal mistake.

Scum like ACS/ARS [whomever they call themselves depending on the state they call from] must "get it right" 100% of the time if they want to even remotely be considered "legitimate" as a business... But they're well below that at this point.

Folks- DO NOT CALL THAT 1-800-392-6003 NUMBER; all you'll do is open yourself to endless phone calls- they'll have documentation of the very phone you called on [unless you're smart and use a "disposable" phone] and they will bring you nothing but "fire and brimstone"- none of it divine, none of it justifiable. They're S**tSharks, circling like flushed bolus along the edges of the toilet bowl of bill collection.

Oooo! New level of "ratchet up"...

Now we get the "TODAY IS 4/15/2010 & THIS IS A RECORDED CALL IN AN ATTEMPT TO CONTACT XXX [me, of course]... BLAH BLAH BLAH". The retard on the other end of the phone then says to call "Flamell" with the standard usual bogus "file" number- hey, dumbass- nice use of the Harry Potter Character "Nicholas Flamell" who is supposedly immortal- yeah you scum bag collections retards are definitely immortal...

By the way, Pantloads, I can tell you're a bunch of PANTLOADS because "if" you're recording my phone call [from you, to me] without MY consent- you're susceptible to FBI wire tapping laws- ESPECIALLY when you're so "F'n" retarded to leave the message on my automated digital phone. Little word of advice, when I get two more of these, I'll be writing to the Attorney General and claiming my civil rights violated by YOUR COMPANY- I'll be either owning your soon-to-be-fired asses or most likely I'll simply liquidate the money from the company and leave you slime poured down some rain gutter somewhere.

Ah, I love "tough talking" collections agents- they usually prove themselves to be "1980s tough guy script hacks" or my personal useful foils for my own financial "Road to Recovery".

These people are from "Ameriquest Recovery Services" and they are so low that shark sh*t at the bottom of the ocean's lowest trench doesn't touch their new level of BS- don't be afraid of them, folks- use their "tough, relentless and fortuitous" practices [which means "bullying, maniacal and bull-headed"] over the phone for both fun and profit!

RECORD ANY CONVERSATION WITH THEM BY PHONE and let them know you're doing so- let them know YOU are recording their conversation for "Quality Control and Litigation Purposes"- trust me, they'll hang up instantly or are so GD stupid they'll fall over themselves to give you their best tough-guy talk [better than Tango & Cash on the big screen!] relish the idea that once you've turned over the files to your attorney general's office they will be either handing you thick reams of cash or levied so deeply they'll be forced to strong arm their next dime from a lemonaide stand.

Hey, "Flamell" call back, "Buddy"- I got a lotta love to share with YOU- you're cowardly little phone message is barely the makings of pillow-talk to the kind of Howler Monkey Sex Opus you wanna give me! And we both knoooow you can give me what I sooo need over the phone, can'tcha!

Sign me "Unimpressed".

received message to call "chris knapp" ext4092 about a pre-legal matter...have no idea what this is. Attempted to contact 800-392-6003 and rings, msg comes across that leave message or hold on. While waiting, sounds as if call is being connected, but get message that someone will be with me shortly, then phone rings and then once again, sounds as if i am being connected to someone....this went on for a few minutes, left my name/phone number..."chris knapp" also called my son and gave him message for me to call back...I have no idea who this company is or what they "claim" to have on me. Don't owe anyone anything.

2010-01-27 14:53:47 UTCJustRuss

At least this one was a human instead of 'robocall"...

Some gal leaves a message that sounds all congenial "Hey, Just- this is "X" and I had some questions about a file that was left with my office- can you call me back so I can check off a few things..?"

No company name in the message or on the Caller ID- that just screams "Bill Collector".

She'll be waiting a good long time for any contact from me.

Someone identifying himself as George left a message stating that he had a quick question to ask and left this number.

2009-04-23 18:11:24 UTCAD

They just called..said she was from ARS, and if I could give a message to my dad I said nope and quit calling....

Called for my son and identified company as ARS - a type of collection agency and gave this as a call back number.

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker:
