I don't have a Discover Card, but I lost a driver's license with my Soc # on it 10 years ago. Have had this
And other fake cards openned in my name over the years. Do not do nothing if called. If concerned, look up
Another Discover Card # online. They can always connect you. I will be putting a fraud alert back on
my credit file (Experian, Trans Union, ...).
I hung up on the automated call, but then checked my account on line and saw a very large fraudulent charge. I called Discover, was connected to a live person who verified that several fraudulent charges have been made in the last couple of days, and canceled my account on the spot.
I got the same call from the number above. Theys said it was the crime prevention department of Discover Card. They had my right name except a different middle name. It almost was the same as my name. I do not have a discover card. whats up
I'm not sure how people can say this is a legitimate number. what puzzles me is that the number itself goes to Discover's Fraud Dept. I received the same phone call. but here's the rub... I DON'T OWN A DISCOVER CARD NOR ANY CREDIT CARD!!! So WHY am I getting this phone call. not to mention they are calling my work number at my office.
so I digress, is this really a fraudulent call or is this legit? I just think it's very strange.
my .02
It's a legit number but if you're concerned like me, you can dial the 800 number on the back of your Discover Card and they'll connnect you to the fraud prevention unit.
Is legit. Automated recording on my work voicemail left on a Sunday night, even though they have my home number. Rep couldn't explain why other than to say automated dialer must have crossed the phone numbers. But the 800-347-4996 is a legit number, and you can go in through the regular 800 number on your card if you prefer. You end up in the same place. Just typical checking/confirming recent purchases. Somewhat random.
Legitimate. They called to check up on purchases made on my card after the account had been dormant for several months.
Got same call. Alot like "N" and Jenn below. A little concerned about the last four digits of SSN. What can they do with that? I'm about to dump all credit cards to ONE only.
Discover put a flag on my credit card, and I called yesterday to clear it out. I'm still getting a phone call from them this morning.
They're getting on my nerve.
Yes this is a legit Discover fraud department number.
I got the same scenario everyone else described. After checking here, I called and indeed found it was DiscoverCard Fraud dept.
Legitimate Discovercard call after making a large purchase
My Discover card number was stolen and used for fraudulent purchases, so I was not surprised to receive the call. However, I WAS surprised that the call was automated and that it requested the last 4 digits of my SSN. Generally it is dangerous to give information like that to anyone who calls you and usually it indicates a phishing attack. I even called Discover back after that and they said they had no record of a call being made, and that there was no reason that I should have been called. Either their computer system is a little buggy or someone has outsmarted the system.
I got a call from this number to my cell phone. I called back, after checking discovercard.com, which told me to call that same number. They wanted to verify 3 gasoline purchases today, which were legit. I appreciate them checking though.
I made an unusually large purchase today on my Discover card and they kept calling me but when I would answer I would hear nothing. I finally called them back and straightened things out.
Received call as described, except I do not have a Discover Card and do not know anybody who does.
This is the legit Discover Card Fraud Number. They check up on you when anything odd comes up on your statement. I verified this by calling the main discover number.
Received an automated voice message on my answering machine at approximately 8:30 pm est stating: "this call is from Discover Card Fraud Prevention Department regarding recent activity on a Discover Card account..." The message went on to say "this is NOT a sales call".
The strangest things about this call are: (1) my number is a fairly new phone number, and (2)I am only a secondary user on this account who lives at a different address than the primary cardholder, and (3)the primary user (whose information is on file for the card and has had this card as well as the same address & phone number for over 20 years) has NEVER received a call like this one. ????
A call to Discover card (using the number on the back of the card, not the number from my caller id) by the primary user verified recent activity, but the customer service represenatative seemed puzzled and offered no additional insight regarding this situation.
It's really Discover Card, but they didn't have a good answer when I asked why they didn't leave a message on my cell, just a hang-up.
I calld Discover's 800 number and they said that it is a legitimate number and service. They just wanted to verify current account activity.
This goes to the Discover Fraud dept and is legitimate.
This was a call to my cell phone. They hung up after 12 seconds without saying anything.
this seems to be a legit Discover fraud dept. number.
I was suspicious when I received a phone call from this number. I obtained the phone number for customer support from the Discover Web site and they confirmed that this phone number is to their fraud department. I was then connected to the fraud department who notified me that they deemed my charge activity pattern as unusual. I confirmed that all the current charges were mine, and I didn't need to take any further action.
