How do I stop them from calling?
- Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
- If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the
FTC. - Block them with a call blocker:
Uniden DECT1288 blocks up to 20 numbers, plus Private and Unknown, with the reject tone, without ringing the phone.
Panasonic KX-TG106 blocks up to 30 numbers, plus all unidentified callers, with a busy tone, after the phone rings once.
JF Teck Caller ID with Ring Controller blocks up to 70 numbers, and can be set to always allow up to 100 to ring through.

WARNING - The scam is occurring nationally by phone and are posing as WestJet or other reputable companies.
There are several variations to this scam, for example, Canadian Tire, air miles, and all will tell you that you won a prize, but you will have to give you credit card # to secure it.
WestJet has released that they do not engage in telephone marketing or share guests personal info with third parties for use in telephone marketing.

I got a call from this number on my personal cell and my direct line at work on the same day. Someone is obviously selling phone numbers.
Just got a call from this number AGAIN for the 15th time - on Oct. 29, 2010 @ 1:16 p.m. on my personal cell phone! When I tried to call back it says the number is not assigned.
I am so tired of these annoyance and harassing calls, that NO PROVIDER OR GOVERNMENT ENTITY WILL EVER DO ANYTHING ABOUT!
The more WE COMPLAIN - it seems the more calls (and texts) WE get!
I think we should all just cancel our Private Home and Cell Phone with our current providers. PHONE
NUMBERS ARE SO OUTDATED AND USING A TELEPHONE IS SO LAST YEAR ANYWAY!
We will only accept emails from certain individuals - to a specific email account! THEN NEVER EVER GIVE OUT YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS TO ANY BUSINESS, ETC. Any bills we want to receive, we can either get online, or they can mail them to us! Let them PAY for the excessive bulk mail if they want to advertise or harass us - we can AT LEAST THROW IT OUT without TOO MUCH INCONVENIENCE!

This number has called a couple of times over the last few days. Each time, it rings twice, then stops. Pretty weird.
But, from what I've read, I don't really want to talk to these people, anyway. I'm not a Bell customer and I haven't bought anything from Canadian Tire in ages.
I didn't answer but thanks to the both of you who commented. I now know never to answer from that number.
Just got a call from this number with a recorded message indicating I had "won 3000 travel dollars" because I was a "valued Canadian Tire customer".
When the jockey asked me if I was 25 or older, I responded "CACTUS!". He promptly hung up.
Robot dialer from someone in Alberta. I'm on the do not call list, so this call should be illegal.
"Because you are a recent Canadian Tire customer, you can receive 3000 travel dollars. To accept press 1." or some crap like that.
I immediately hung up.
"Travel dollars" ha? Rriigghtt....
