How do I stop them from calling?
- Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
- If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
- Block them with a call blocker:
Uniden DECT1288 blocks up to 20 numbers, plus Private and Unknown, with the reject tone, without ringing the phone.
Panasonic KX-TG106 blocks up to 30 numbers, plus all unidentified callers, with a busy tone, after the phone rings once.
JF Teck Caller ID with Ring Controller blocks up to 70 numbers, and can be set to always allow up to 100 to ring through.

Woman offering specials for Metro PCS, a service I don't use. And on Easter Sunday morning to boot!
No clue as to who they are. No message left. Won't answer if number not recognized.
Got the same "lower my credit card interest rate. It said there is no worrysome activity on your credit card..."
"Frank" said they represent "over 500 banks issuing both Visa and MasterCards."
Don't know anyone at 707-236-4402
Yet another variant of "Rachel" and her scammer pals .... See discussions for these numbers: 7142445025, 4029820479
I am reluctant to agree with Aubree's comment but probably must. At least there IS stronger law to wave in the faces of these thieves. The FTC shut down three firms this Spring running the same scam, but there is clearly more trash hauling work ahead.
The non-sequitur entries from "Reply" were all made by a chronic spammer, unrelated to this isue, trying stupidly to drag tail over his tracks.
I am on tmobile and I do not trust tmobile. Sometimes I get a feeling they are the ones who place numerous anonymous calls i receive daily in order to run my minutes usage over my 1000 plan-minutes.
Wanted to lower my interest rate if I'd just give them my 16-digit account number. Refused to allow me to call back in.
they call me to sale extended car warranty. Its irritating.
Called my phone just now. Did not pick up since I did not know the number.
Scam - Lower interest rate....last day only. Phone auto answered and caller hung up before I could get details. Number does not accept incoming calls.
Will not leave message
interest rates scam
no buena
The message was that there was nothing wrong with my credit card at the present time, but it was important to lower credit card interest rate, and please press a number.
I get a lot of hang up calls with no message
They wanted me to "lower" something couldn't understand them. I think they were a pervert!
i wont answer so i dont know
'Jeff Richards' was person I was speaking to. Became very suspicious when they were asking for credit card numbers and expiration dates.
Card Services, "lower your interest rate" bla-bla-bla Then operator claimed to be "Alex" and the company is in Richardson, SC.
call offering to reduce credit card rate. When I told them I didn't have my card in front of me they hung up. BEWARE SCAM
The National Do Not Call Registry only works with legitimate companies. When you are called by these scam artists, they are are out to steal from you (what legitimate company doesn't give their name, hangs up on you when challenged for that information, or asks for credit card numbers and expiration dates, etc. - None!). Because they are crooks, they are not going to abide by something as mundane as a National Do Not Call list.
The only way to stop these people is not to answer any calls from any number that you do not recognize. If it is family or an employer, they will leave a message. These people will not leave a message and eventually will stop calling if you don't answer.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of other issues that need to take precedence over con artists and unwanted calls. Let's hope that we eventually get to the point where this is the biggest of our worries.....

Same problem. Received call with recorded message saying that there was "nothing currently wrong with my account, but I could reduce my rates by pressing nine." I wanted to find out what was going on, so I did. When the man answered, all he said was, "Hello." I asked what company he was calling from and he hung up. Complete SCAM!
How did they get my number? When I mentioned that I would like to know for what CC they are calling, the woman asked me if I pressed 9, I said yes, and then she hung up very quickly?!?
Lately I have also been receiving very strange e-mails about a Canadian online pharmacy.
This needs to stop!
some kind of scam
I guess being on the Do Not Call List has no meaning any longer.
They called, I answered and was played an automated message about "Your Credit Card Account is ok but press 9 to reduce your interest rate to 9%". They did NOT identify themselves in the first message. I pressed 9 and the phone was answered by someone saying they were from "Card Services". He asked me how many credit cards I had, I asked who they were and where they were located. There was about 15 seconds of silence on his end then he hung up without saying another word. Predators abound!
called the number back and got "... is unavailable, please try your call again later."
William: These crooks don't need a phone book for their computers to perform sequential dialing, so technically the caller was partly right.
I called this number back and asked what there name was and why they were calling me random. I was told they are not going thru the phone book and randomly calling numbers that i was refered to them "by your lender". First off i have no lenders or even a credit card....hmmm.
When i confronted them with this information i was told to disregard this call then and hung up on promptly.
"CREDIT CARDHOLDER SERVICES" machine. When I asked to speak to someone to get off list, I was told to just hang up and they argued with me for 12 minutes before hanging up.
This number is NOT the number for Card Services. It it probably some poor devil with a cell phone who is now getting dozens of irate calls that run up his minutes. It is the result of spoofing, a technique that allows a caller to put whatever number he/she wants on your caller id box. Bill collectors use it to make you answer the phone because you think it is a relative or an employer. Even using *57, the telephone code for finding out who is making abusive calls, is ineffective as the telephone company and law enforcement are fooled as well. Seems like a scam to me.
Do Not Call list isn't effective for these.
I did press 9 just to hear what they would say..of course, the woman became enraged and threatened me when I told her to delete my number from the list..did not tell her the number and she did not know to whom she was speaking. She screamed, "That's illegal you are threatening ME."..just wanted to go on record as having requested my number off the list..although I did not verify anything at all..she wanted information, but got nothing.
I recieved 8 calls in the last 2 days, will not answer them, found out it was a scam in credit card reductions.
how do they get out cell phone numbers, when they are not published.........
it is a scam. when asked for information they hung up. I asked not to be on call list they call anyway.
Got a call saying I could reduce my credit card interest rate as low as 6.9%. Pressed 9 to have them remove me from their call list as I am also on the do not call list. I heard a person on the other line say "What do I do?". Then the line went dead. Tried to call back and got a message saying that this number is no longer in service.
We used to get several calls a week from these idiots, normally around 5 or 6 PM. One day I received a call on a Friday afternoon and asked to speak to a supervisors. I was connected to a man who admitted that it was that time of the week and that he had several drinks, it was pretty obvious. He used the most profound language and insults. I just had another call from the same crowd and a woman spoke to me about lowering credit card payment. They want to know what the limit on the card is, what I owe and then asked for the number and expiration date. This is not SPAM, this is serious criminal activity. How is it possible that they get away with this in America????
Look dork don't call ny number or I will contact the FBI and take you out my self get it. Good now grow up.
I have been called several times per week. No message left.
No message
Rachelle Card Reduction Scam!
I got a call this afternoon (Sept. 24, 2010) and reported it. We'll see where it goes.
I couldn't pick up and called it back twice and it was in spanish both times
rachel the @$$hole called
Rachel, the @$$hole called
I have actually pressed 9 to talk to a person in order to have my name removed from their call list, since I am on the do not call registry. When the gal answered she said so you are wanting to save on your credit card interest? I said no, take my name and number off your list, and she hung up on me before I could finish giving her my number! I was pissed! So now I am getting the calls once a week. I filed 2 complaints with the ftc.At least this time I got a number they will recognize not starting with 888-000. Cant figure out how a number can come up on the caller id then when you file a complaint, Im told to recheck my number, this one doesnt exist!
Call, hang up. Call hang up. I don't answer but they keep calling.
I have received these calls from "Rachel" and file complaints with the do not call registry. I have not bothered for awhile, and hope it does not pick up in intensity again.
can this be stopped?
Guy hung up when I asked him companys full name. My work number is on the do not call list. Filed a complaint against them.
Pressed 9 and was disconnected. I wanted to demand I was taken off the list
credit card reduction scam - I pressed 9 and spoke with a live person. He said he would take us off their call list but it would take 48 hrs to remove us and not to pick up again because as soon as we answer, we get put back on their list.
Pressing 9 will transfer you to a rep.
