The area code here is 703, (for Arlington, Va., McLean, Va., and Tysons Corner, Virginia.) Keep a record, please, of the date and time of each call made to your home. Contact the Arlington, Virginia Police Department online and report that you have information pertaining to harassing calls from some group calling themselves NRA in the area code 703, telephone number 656-9940 and request that they be stopped from the illegal activity they are engaged in. You may need to file a report of the activity on your phone line, but it's worth it to get this kind of behavior stopped.

It is the NRA, sometimes someone is on the other line sometimes there is nobody. They ask for my husband and will not speak with me and hang up when I say he is not home. I figured out how to stop the calls though. Call the number back press 1 for more information, sit thru the whole message of what the NRA is and does, then is gives you the the chance to press 2 to stop calls, then you have to enter your 10 digit phone number, and that is it. They do have a stop calls system like most do you just had to listen to find it. So press 1 for more info then press 2 to stop calls, enter phone number and press 1 to send it.

We were getting calls from this number also. Usually it sounded like someone was there and hung up. I called back got their message that it was the National Rifle Association. Pressed 2 to hear more about them and then pressed 3, entered in my phone number and was able to remove our number from their list. It says it might take 30 days to remove it. We are also on the Do Not Call list. Do not know how they got our number or why they are calling us. We do not own guns, or oppose those that do. Call the number back and get yourself removed.

It is NRA and they say our numbers were collected on a recent purchase of a firearm related item we did, of course this is not true so file a report at donotcall.gov with as much info you can get from them. Also double check your mail box for any missing/damaged letter (id theft) because somebody might be purshasing guns/ammo under your name or maybe is just a way NRA telemarketers do their "work" by harrassing people at home.

7-28-2010 This is the Natioanl Rifle Association. I just had a call from 703-656-9940 and asked them if this was the National Rifle Association and he said "This is Dale Cline calling on behalf of the National RIfle Association." Caller ID says "NRA". It is probably a collections agency. Several months ago another collections agency was looking for our son's bio-mom, who lives in another state. She is a piece of work and gave us hell for many years, never obeying Court Orders, etc. so I was glad to tell them everything I knew!!!! Hope they find her make her pay every penny she owes since she never paid for her own son. So, keep in mind, that collections agencies may not be targeting you, they may be trying to get information on some scum you know.

NRA membership drive. I listened to what the gentleman had to say. The drive is based on the premise that Obama has a secret agenda with the United Nations to pass a law banning guns for all Americans. So I looked it up while on the phone. Factcheck.org says:

I called the NRA's member services program at 1-800-672-3888 and complained vigorously to them. I also told the guy to Google this number and see all the complaints out there against his telemarketers and how awful they are! Finally, I submitted a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) on their donotcall.gov web site. Call the NRA at 800-672-3888 and ask to be put on THEIR Do Not Call list. Unfortunately, the national Do Not Call registry states: "Understand that some calls are not covered. Once your number has been on the registry for 31 days, most telemarketing calls will stop. However, you still may get calls from — or on behalf of — political organizations, charities, and telephone surveyors."
So, call the NRA directly & remind them that since you are requesting it, they must comply.

I had a problem along these same lines a couple of months ago, from a different number. The only way I got it to stop was by reporting them to the FCC (FCC.gov). After doing this, I informed the next caller that I had reported them, as I too am on the Do Not Call List. Maybe it is time to report this number too!

On 22October2009, at 6:33pm, the caller ID said "NRA". Being on the far left -- I answered,... ready for rebuttal. Guy Identified himself as "Stan", and asked if I would listen to a recording by NRA president. The recording was 60 seconds of bias, disinformation and implied prejudice. Recording called the U.N. a "third-world organization" and Hillary Clinton a "treacherous monster, prepared to destroy our freedom". It burned my ears to listen. When "Stan" came back on,... I listened, interjected when necessary and TRIED to have a conversation. And "Stan" was not well-versed in the USA's history -- like saying that the 2nd Amendment was written in the 1990s. I told him I was in the NRA,... but when he continued, I said, "NO,... I thought you meant the Not Republican Association." We continue --- him praising guns, violence and hatred,... and me saying violence is bad. And he was rude, by saying "that judging by my anti-gun view, I must be 16 years old, 'cause only kids are dumb enough to NOT LIKE GUNS". He even said that dumb "Guns don't kill people, people kill people",... WHICH REALLY MEANS NOTHING, and stinks of specious ignorance and irresponsibility. And then when I tried to really have an opposing conversation,... like saying humans need to coexist, work together and stop killing, or that hunting was no longer viable for the planet or necessary,... he was stunned. And when I had the questions,... he ended the call. Called right back, but got only a recording. I don't wanna be taken off their list,... I wanna talk to them every time they call.

The person on the other side of the line asked me if I could participate in a one-question survey. I said yes and then a message from Wayne LaPierre came on. It was some delusional speech about how the UN will ban all of our guns. Totally laughable with loaded language throughout. Certainly not a message intended for any intelligent thinkers. At the end Wayne said to hold onto the line to hear how you can help. There was no survey. It just went to chamber music and after a few minutes I hung up.

Each time nobody is on the other end and the robot hangs up. - I called the number back and exercised the option to remove my number from their list, (press three, enter your 10 digit number, press 1 to confirm) but we are still getting the calls.

I have reporting it to DoNotCall.gov as a robodialer that calls and hangs up.

It convinced me that I should be very afraid of everything & that I should really start honoring those conspiracy theorists, and listening to the voices in my head & go on a shooting spree. Next you will have the option to press 3 and enter your phone number. They do tell you they have "30 days" to update their records. They've called many times over the last few weeks. When we pick up there's a long pause and sometimes someone gets on the phone. When someone finally came through and said "hello" this evening I asked to be added to the 'do not call list' and they hung up. I called back and got an automated message saying it was the National Rifle Association saying that they have been calling regarding some important information and that they would be calling back. The only option was press 1 to learn more about the organization. I suspect I'll need to continue not to answer the phone in the evenings or take some time out of my day during business hours and beg to be removed from the call list -- I assume they have a non-profit loophole(?) from the real "do not call list". They have been the only unsolicited calls we've been getting lately. I wouldn't mind supporting the NRA, but after this I'm officially against anyone using 1980's telemarketing.

While I am not unsympathetic to their perspective, I do not appreciate repeated junk solicitation calls from the NRA. Junk phone soliciting may earn them some money, but for every call that pays off, they have pissed off a hundred other people with an NRA signature flashing on their caller ID. As a business strategy this is probably about as effective as repeatedly hitting yourself in the balls with a hammer. You have to wonder why anyone still uses such a universally detested means to squeeze a few bucks from people. And why would anyone even contribute to these sleazy parasites knowing that contributing does nothing but identify them as easy marks for every lame cause imaginable. Just because it's legal doesn't mean there are people out there who appreciate it. There is no grass-roots support for junk calls. Everyone hates them.

So called again, pressed 1, then 3 without even waiting for them to tell me to and it went into the part about 30 days. They have called so many times, I can't wait for it to stop!

The phone calls I keep getting are from the National Rifle Association. The caller ID says NRA 703-656-9940. I know this is true because my father and brothers belong to the NRA and this is the customer service number they have. I called and complained about all of the phone calls and hangups. They said they would take me off their list. I have never recieved any phone calls from them before so I'm not sure why they started about 2 weeks ago. I support the NRA but the phone calls are annoying!

This is the National Rifle Assocation. It is my belief that since they are considered a politcal organization the "Do Not Call" list does not apply. I did call back (they identify themselves as the National Rifle Association), pressed "1" and then "3". All calls stopped. Not sure where the "debt collector" story comes from...calling the number back does provide identification of the organization making the call. I hate ALL unsolicited phone calls, but it is not hard to stop this one.

This number has been showing up EVERY DAY as the NRA. I usually wasn't home, but finally answered once or twice, figuring if I told them I wasn't interested in whatever they were calling about, they would quit. They asked for my husband and when I said he wasn't there, the caller just said he would call back. I would say "don't bother" but they continue to call. I called the number today. I don't answer, and generally, they'll either hang up or leave an automated message telling you they are collecting a debt and give you a 1-800 # to call. When you actually answer and speak to the person calling, they identify themselves as members of the NRA. When I said we weren't interested, the man on the phone got really nasty and started yelling at me for giving up my rights under the second ammendment. NRA is a collection agency. They call MY house knowing that the person they are asking for does not live here. They try to threaten you into giving them information which I don't believe you are required to do. Just let them know that whoever they're looking for does not live at your home and hang up. I had one threaten to send the sheriff out to question me if I didn't tell him how he could get in touch with a daughter who was having a financial problem. I went to the Fairness In Credit Act website and downloaded the law that states they cannot call or harass a third party over someone elses bad debts and after reminding them they were breaking the law, they stopped.........for a while. Now it's starting again. I don't believe this NRA has anything to do with the gun group.

I am an NRA Life Member. Have been since around 1959. Have never known the NRA to use a call service such as this to irritate people. I called the 703-656-9940 back and sure enough it was answered with a message sounding as if the call came from the National Rife Association (NRA). Yet the recording was not the same one you get if you call known NRA phone numbers. I suspect this could be some new liberal ploy to discredited the NRA and make enemies for them. I have been called by the NRA from their calling programs in the past and when one answers they always respond, and have always been very polite and considerate and the NRA has always taken the high road toward ethics and professionalism. So these irritating type of calls are way out of character for them, suggesting even more strongly these calls are not coming from the NRA.

Do as Patsy posted, very easy, just call back, during the introduction to the NRA press 1, then again during the announcement, press 3 and enter your number, confirm with pressing 1 and it will be removed from the list. Very frustrating people to deal with, do not leave it to them to remove your phone number after speaking to them, if someone is on the other end of the line when you answer, just do as I just did. These people have been calling at LEAST once a day seven days a week. I have caller ID so haven't been picking it up. They called during dinner last night and I had to get up and look at the caller because we've had a family emergency this week. I picked it up then and gave them what-for for calling continually and told the person not to call again. LOW AND BEHOLD, I got another call a few minutes ago. As soon as I heard it pick up I told the person that I had caller ID and I knew how it was and the whole story again. The woman on the line repeated my number and said she was putting it on the do not call list. I told her if I got another call I'd report them to the FCC.

A couple weeks ago I had been getting calls from the NRA on my home phone (which is also my business line). I called the number left on my caller ID, of course it was a recording. They want to get in touch with you to give you information about recent law changes regarding whatever. But if you just listen to their 30 second info session... they will ask you if you want to be removed from their list. Just hit "3" and enter your number with the area code and there you go. They haven't called since I did this and I did this about a week and a half ago. Hope this helps everyone out there getting calls from this number!!

Do what I do when the NRA calls. Just tell them this when you answer. After saying hello, and they introduce themself (be sure to get thier name, this comes handy later in the prank) and ask where the resident is say "I don't know if(insert name)is a part of the NRA, but if he wasn't, he should have been, because I am actually robbing his house right now." During your conversation with the telemarketer, pretend to be carrying out a conversation with an accompliss. Tell them to do things like "Spray all the blood with amonia so they cant trace it" and "Remember only the big ticket items like electronics, guns, powertools, artwork, and don't forget to look for the keys to the Shelby cobra and Harley in the garage." Then continue your converstion with the NRA guy. Telling him "I had to shoot him in the face when he caught me. Maybe if he was a member of the NRA, he wouldn't have got his face shot off. Well, I hear sirens so I gotta go before the cops get here. By the way, Don't even think about telling anybody you talked to me either or I'll come kill your ass (Insert their name. Told you it would come in handy). I'll google your name and find your address and I'll come kill your ass with a rifle." Wait for a response. "Do you F--king under stand? DO YOU? Huh, You piece of S--t?" They'll probably hang up soon after that.

I did like Michelle said in an above post. I called them back, pressed 1, then in the middle of the "schpiel", I pressed 3. I should be removed from the list within 30 days. NRA is exempt from the National Do-Not-Call register. Don't make yourself crazy by continuing to get these calls from the same number! Be polite and in MOST instances the organizations will remove you from their list. Since I registered on the Do-Not-Call register, I'm amazed at how much quieter it is around the house during the day, and we get very few annoying, dinnertime calls.

Any time I get more than three calls like this,with no verbal reply to my answering, I simply put my main phone on speaker and bring a remote phone close to the speaker and turn it on. I can usually make out some expletives in there among the wailings of the system.

They do not actually hang up on you. It's on an auto-dialer that tracks what time you answer your phone during the day so that they know what time to call you. That was explained to me by the phone company. I was also told that no call lists do not help because they are calling from private numbers and cell phones. Keeps calling and never speaks when I answer the phone, kind of creepy. Perhaps its a new method to convertly get people to purchase guns, cause the calls are creepy enough to make someone feel unsafe.

Called them back, pressed "1" for more info, then presse "3" "to be removed from calling list", and supposedly I'll be removed within 30 days.

Theyt have been calling all day long, at least 4 times. Three times there was nobody on the other end and once I hung up on them when someone did answer (after I said, "hello" several times.

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker:
