Donna: Like I was trying to tell Kat in December, the collections rep can't legally reveal much to you unless you identify as the targeted person. If you're not the lucky victim, send FAMS a cease-comm via USPS Certified with return card. The FTC and many consumer watchdogs explain how to draft one.

2011-11-08 16:13:37 UTCDonna

I just called one of the other numbers listed and gave the guy my phone number and he said he doesn't see it listed so it must have been a wrong number. Sure...

2011-11-08 16:11:37 UTCDonna

This number called my house last night and I called them back today and the person couldn't give me a name they were looking for and asked if anyone in the home owed a student loan, any owed taxes to Georgia or Maryland, etc. Asked if I fit any of the 4 categories she mentioned. I said no and even if I did, I'm not answering anyone who can't tell me who they want to talk to.

2011-08-09 19:49:58 UTCme

THESE PEOPLE ARE IDIOTS- CALLED THE NUMBER BACK AND AFTER GOING THROUGH A LIST OF WHO THEY COLLECT FOR, I TOLD THEM NEVER HAD ANY OF THOSE- THEN THEY TELL ME MY NUMBER ISN'T EVEN IN THEIR SYSTEM- THEN HOW THE HELL DID YOU CALL ME?!

2011-06-02 19:27:10 UTCResident47

Calling the workplace to apply pressure and make threats of garnishment, or threats of arrest or a lawsuit, is illegal for a debt collector. Again, read the rules, see if FAMS can be sued by *you* for the hassle.

2011-06-02 17:25:08 UTCJack sucks

I was happy to lie to these d-bags and tell them that my co-worker no longer works with me. They actually wanted to set up a garnishment on her as if they are actually owed something. Jack, we know you work for this company, stop defending them and find a new line of work.

2010-12-16 07:13:05 UTCResident47

Kat, the collector may have very little to go on, not even your SSN. Debt accounts are assigned and sold in bundles, often rife with faulty data, names mixed up, wrong numbers, and so on. A matching SSN pinning you to an account would release the rep from having to pussyfoot under privacy rules. You have no obligation to help anyone with skip tracing, nor do you have to say a word if you owe anything. Move the whole exchange to a paper trail if it continues, and document all calls.

All: If you are receiving repeated, misdirected, and/or abusive calls from a third party debt collector, you may find relief in the provisions of the FDCPA, the Federal law which regulates collector behavior. Learn your rights at FTC-dot-gov. See also your state laws for additional support.

They will not stop calling regardless of what information you give them. I have tried but they continue to call my number even thought I am not the person they are looking for nor do I know them. They do continually violate the laws governing credit and I have reported them on a number of occasions. I'd also add that these people are not looking to help students get money for collage because NO money they collect goes back to help students. They are only interested in lining their own pockets. My guess is that "Jack" is one of these bottom feeders since he is defending people who operate outside the law. We need some strong federal regulations to be put in place to deal with these shady companies. Contact your representative and senator and see if we can get a little help dealing with these scumbags.

Financial Asset Management Systems is a legit business. They do administer wage garnishments on behalf of the department of education. If you are not the person they are looking for all you need to do is talk to them on the phone, explain it to them and give them a different DOB / lst 4 of social even if it isn't yours to get them to stop calling. Just have to be polite and not act guilty. If you hang up they take it as a sign that you are the person you are looking for. Plus, I see comments about them being bottom feeders... I went to school and took out loans. I am paying mine back. I don't understand why the people who borrowed this money can't do the same. Many of them have gone 15 + years without paying these back. They are the true bottom feeders not the people getting money back to the students who need it. Just my opinion.

2008-08-28 20:14:26 UTCPam

P.S. From other things that I learned...they are the some of the worst bottom feeders.

2008-08-28 20:13:05 UTCPam

I did some internet research on this company. Their Cooperate Office is: 2859 Paces Ferry Road, Suite 510, Atlanta GA 30339. Their operations address is 1967 Lakeside Pkwy, Suite 402, Tucker GA 30084. The 678-254-3300 number can NOT be blocked by AT&T. I have asked. It is a collection agency, and they lie.

2008-06-18 14:58:22 UTCWayne

They keep calling an employee of mine. How they even got this work number, I have no idea. This is a waste of company time, and I'm not sure how to stop it.

2008-03-31 21:53:37 UTCanother me

I don't even have any students loans. Why are they calling me? They must have the wrong me.

2008-02-22 16:56:36 UTCLora

I got a message from Lydia asking her to call her on 888-668-6920 x3126; she gave me the same story.....she was working for the government and was trying to collect on my Student Loan - even though I have only been out of school for only two years; they even want all $39,000. She is calling me at work (very persistently, I might add, to a point where she is having me located within my office) and on my cell phone. Back on 2/19, she got in touch with one of my colleagues, and I'm now being threatened with garnishment by her and her "manager".

2008-01-31 20:49:24 UTCKerrie

Called my office today said "Can I talk with attorney." She didn't even know his name. I said he wasn't in and she asked for voicemail and I told her I couldn't transfer her to voicemail(which is actually true) and that she would have to leave a message with me. Well she obviously thought I was lying and told me, "Well if he's not in the office I will call his cell phone." Be my guest! She didn't even have that number, his cell never rang. They are very rude and I am looking forward to the next call from them!

2007-12-15 21:29:44 UTCdkgail

still calling. won't stop. very rude.

2007-11-29 14:37:46 UTCdkgail

They called again today. They introduced themselves as the Dept. Of Education, Garnishments.
Well, we all know that they aren't actually the Dept. of Education.
I wonder if the US Dept. of Education knows that these ppl are using their name??
Anyway, they wanted payroll dept. for garnishment.
When I questioned which state they wanted, they hung up.
hmmm....they don't like to be questioned I see.
Collection services, i hate them with a passion.

2007-11-27 17:10:38 UTCdkgail

OH, called back again after getting a voicemail system, instead of a live person. Wanted the name of the head of payroll so she could make a garnishment.
I told her that I could not give out that name, she hung up on me.

2007-11-27 16:42:33 UTCdkgail

Called here about 10 minutes ago for our payroll department. Said she needed to speak to someone about a garnishment.
I put her through and she got the department voicemail. I saw it pick up. No message left.

2007-11-26 20:46:07 UTCAndrew

They suck. I love the line of asking to call them without saying what it's for. Like anyone would do that anytime.

2007-11-13 15:18:17 UTCJ

These people are rude!!! They called this business, ask for a person who does work here. We have asked them not to call here, they are tying up our phone line and stopping us from receiving customer calls. I told Theresa(the person who keeps calling) not to call again and she won't listen. The debt that is owed is not mine it is between Finanical Risk Management and the employee. They have his cell number and his address, call and/or write him. I am starting to get very annoyed by these jerks!

2007-10-18 19:09:51 UTCjb

P.O. Box 81404 Atlanta, GA 30341 they are scanm they do not work for or afiliated with the dept of education. they are not legit look them up and her name was kim very rude and uninformed and wanted my ss number be smart and informed

2007-10-10 05:50:44 UTCJason

I answered a friends phone & the person on the other end wanted me to verify information. He said all I had to do was listen and he would give me the information and I was supposed to verify what he was giving me was correct or not.I told him I would not verify anything and for him to loose the phone number. He mentioned a place of employment my friend worked at about 10 yrs prior.....why would give me an address of the person and the work address was over 3000 miles away? I hung up on him after telling him to loose thenumber and never call again...

2007-10-09 19:54:24 UTCsara

Ever wonder where drug addicts, prison parolees, and newly released mental patients go? They become debt collectors....oh.....that's why they are BRAIN DEAD DIRTBAGS!

2007-09-05 22:21:43 UTCqwerty

They keep calling asking for a Rebecca Allen and no one by that name lives with me. I don't even know a Rebecca Allen.

2007-06-29 21:44:28 UTCFrank

Also, when you recieve these calls more than once, when they ask for you put them on hold till you get yourself. Keep them waiting. I would like to see the whole call center on hold.

2007-06-29 21:41:12 UTCFrank

What I do with these calls, and I wish everyone would is to call the 800 number when you have nothing to do. Run up their phone charges as often as possible. I also stuff junk mail into prepaid reply envelopes and send those company's some junk mail. Maybe they want some pizza coupons. They have to pay more than regular rate on recieving these through the mail. Anyway let them deal with junk mail for a change.

2007-06-15 16:18:11 UTCjlb

They leave a garbled first name saying it's important to call 888-668-6020 X195 - caller id gives 678-254-3300. No one here has been a student for over 45 years & no loans from that. Probably an incorrect skip trace that is extremely irritating. These people are scum bottom-feeders.

2007-05-22 02:04:49 UTCMax

They called my home number & my cell number. I have no student loans nor do I have any past due loans.
I suspect they are verifying contact information for some commercial lending institudion.

2007-05-16 14:33:32 UTCDavid

They are a Dept of Education student loan agency. Anybody with a common name will end up hearing from these people due to the search method called skip-tracing. It's a real nuisance and violation of privacy, since the only way they can remove you from their list is to verify your social security number.

2007-04-16 23:04:27 UTCmichael

When asked who they were they said that they were from "the Department of Education!"

2007-01-25 21:00:45 UTCMike

called twice this evening, left no message. Out of Area.

2007-01-25 13:49:06 UTCMatt

they called and left a message that i must call back
well i wont call them back thanks

2007-01-10 12:39:13 UTCkelly

they just called me too and left a message to call them..Now i see they are a student loan collection, I blocked their number i hope it works

2007-01-05 08:38:24 UTCWill

I can confirm that this number is indeed student loan collection company. They have been hounding me for months.

2006-11-14 19:47:54 UTCAnna

The company is called Financial Asset Management Serv. P.O. Box 81404 Atlanta, GA 30341 The toll free number is 1-888-668-6920. Its a student Loan collection place among other things.

2006-11-14 10:40:16 UTCAnn

They have called my cell phone on three different days and times, I did not answer because I did not know who it was, but they also callde my work. If anyone find out who these people are I would love to go after them for abusing the phone system

2006-10-10 18:38:33 UTCkelly

they call and ask for me, but wont say who it is then they ask for my cell phone number and if im at work, then they asked where i was..

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker:
