How do I stop them from calling?
- Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
- If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the
FTC. - Block them with a call blocker:
Uniden DECT1288 blocks up to 20 numbers, plus Private and Unknown, with the reject tone, without ringing the phone.
Panasonic KX-TG106 blocks up to 30 numbers, plus all unidentified callers, with a busy tone, after the phone rings once.
JF Teck Caller ID with Ring Controller blocks up to 70 numbers, and can be set to always allow up to 100 to ring through.

these people are assholes. they called & asked for address & personal info. wanted business info. Also wanted to know personal information about an employee. they were very rude & unprofessional. This is a collection agency hiding its identity.
Very similar to what Eddie said, a person by the name of "Mark" stated he had contacted our Payroll and HR departments, and he is now calling the head of my HR dept. He asked for proprietary information that is not released to anyone outside of the company. Then when I asked for a fax number to show that his info was incorrect, he gave me a faulty fax number!

After trying to keep him on the phone so I could figure out what exactly he was doing, he abruptly hung up on me.
I have 2k in school debt from 2003 that they were calling to collect. We're in 2009.
I spoke to a pleasant woman that was very professional. She explained that Conserve is a company that collects for the US Government Guaranteed School Loans. Of course, I couldn’t speak to her long, as I was at work. But my question is, why didn’t the US Government Agency call themselves? I’m sorry but I can’t trust someone that is merely claiming to be a collections agency and requesting secure personal information over the telephone.

They are trying to disguise themselves I think. They called 4 times in 30 minutes. Twice they asked for our payroll department. I would bet it is a scum collection agency trying to force a garnishment.
why do people feel the need to do this? what is their problem?
This is a collection agency hiding its identity. A live person called trying to extract employment related information.
