Who Called Us

After receiving several of these calls, I played along until I was transferred to someone that finally identified themselves. The company is American Debt Negotiators, now using the name Capital Law Group. Their phone number is 877-487-2273. Call them often to complain.

I get anywhere from 25-30 of these calls each week. I'm on the "Do Not Call List". The recording sayes, "your time is running out for this special service, there's nothing wrong with your credit card account we are offering you this one time service to lower your intrest rate, to press 1 to continue or 2 to be removed". This is annoying. I have great credit. I'm tired of answering my own phone but, I have to answer it because my mother has heart failure and what if an emergency comes up like it has before?

Called and left no message on voicemail. Am on NO CALL list but apparently the caller can't read!

These are the same criminals that are using 954-689-7681. They are spoofing the caller ID, so don't bother trying to call them back. Just keep reporting them to the FTC, the FCC, and your local police. Maybe someday somebody will figure a way to shut them down.

Called yesterday 7-22-07 left no msg...have gotten the same call in the past. I hate this stuff.

Picked up the phone - it was a recording. "There is no problem with your credit card but we can lower your interest rate, etc.". Did not identify what credit card. A scam for sure. I, called the number back and got the "disconnected" message.

OK, so I pressed 1 to speak to a live rep and as soon as I got them on the phone, I asked for the company name. She said "A I Trust". She said they use a "marketing firm" to make the calls. I told her I'd like to find out the name of this "marketing firm". She said she would transfer me to her supervisor...and you probably guessed it...click. I have looked everywhere for information on A I Trust and have yet to find anything.

Call came in as unknown number. Answered after 3 rings. Line was alive, but no one answered in spite of repeated "hellos". Our phone service reports it as Palm Beach, FL.

Have gotten repeated calls from this number. Don't usually answer but when I did I got the same response as Jane (4/6/07).

These scam artists do not care if you are are a Do Not Call List because they are crooks trying to get your SS#, credit card #, bank acct " s they can STEAL YOUR IDENTITY!

The number showing up on Caller ID is a fake, which isn't hard at all for them to do. They use many other fake phone numbers as well.

If you get these calls you need to report it to the proper agencies-when enough people complain is when something finally gets done.

IC3.gov - (Internet Crime Complaint Center) a federal agency that handles cyber crime but will also take reports on telemarketers who are trying to steal identities
FBI - find number in your local phone book or online search
CPA-Consumer Protection Agency (onlinesearch)
Senators and Representatives for your areas - to get them to make phone companies crack down on companies who use fake numbers
Phone Companies - let them know that ALL customers need to be protected by filters so they do not even receive the calls from scam artists like this

We need to be wary and careful of our own personal data, but these agencies need to step in and help!!!

I asked to speak to a supervisor and was hung up on...

Received voicemail telling me I had 4 free days at a vacation resort in Cancun.

Said they were offering some vacation deal, press 9 to speak to live person; when they picked up, a person with a heavy accent asked if I was interested in their special vacation deal, but hung up immediately when I asked for the name of his company.

Call came in midday. No message on answering machine.

Got a call, no message left. A call back to the same number indicated that it was disconnected. Within 2 minutes???? fishy.

THIS IS A SCAM. REPORT THEM TO YOUR ATTORNEY GENERAL OR BETTER BUSINESS BURUEA. tHEY ARE VERY RUDE IF YOU ASK FOR THEIR ADDRESS OR LOCATION.

I knew this was a scam to get your credit card number (identiy theft). I just strung them along as long as I could, trying to bring a little strss into THEIR lives. They finally got tired of trying to pry my card number out of me and hung up. I smiled.

When the call went to voicemail they hung up!

Received a call from this number. Recording purports that the call is in regard to "my" credit card--I don't have one.

Spoke to lady. Rougly, "could I get a callback number for your organization?" "... Excuse me? You don't even know if you qualify [tone of 'duh']! Are you over $5,000 in debt?" "Actually, I'd just like a callback number for your organization." "*sigh*" *click*.

When you call this number back and hear the "disconnect" notice, pay close attention to the tones you hear. I may be wrong, but generally those "error tones" seem to be longer than the ones you get on this number. I call shenanigans.

Seems like calls like this start in here about this time of year. I do not answer the phone to 800 #'s or when they just give the city and state. I too am on the do not call list.

this was the second time this number had called my phone...showed up on caller ID but I didn't answer or return the call this time , but first time tried to call it back said disconnected...

Got a recorded call from "Michelle of Cardholder Services" offering a 6.9 debt consolidation. I punched 8 to be removed from their call list but was informed that this was an invalid selection; finally a man with a southern accent answered and asked if I'd gotten a call about a 6.9 percent interest rate. I said yes, and I tried to be removed by pressing "8," whereupon he hung up on me instantly. I called the 866 number given above and was told "We don't make any outgoing calls but you can try our other branch at 877-487-2273." I called that number and a woman (in Customer Service) told me she doesn't know anything about Michelle from Cardholder Services. Nobody knows anything. I reported "Michelle from Cardholder Services" to the Donotcall Registry website. Let's shut this company down. Is anyone getting anywhere with this?

Didn't try to call back after reading all this. I hung up after I heard they were calling about a credit card account and gave no company name. I trust very few when online and by phone. I want proof before I give out any info. If it's important, a REAL person will call me. :)

Same thing happened to me. Phone rang, answered, no one spoke. Called back and it said disconnected.

Just reported the # to the FBI, but the rep. I talked to does not investigate, only takes information. She said I did the right thing by reporting it. I am in MA, and called our state FBI, which is in Boston. Each state has their own. Hope it helps. Good luck to all! :)

I have never responded to a message board, so I hope I am doing this correctly. I have received several calls from this # and not answered. I am on the DNC list also. The FBI website has some good tips about these types of scams and because of this site, I am considering contacting them, not sure how yet, havn't checked enough. A friend of mine was recently involved in an internet scam, where a man sent her fake money orders for her artwork, but overpaid, and wanted her to "wire" him the overpayment. Typical scam. He was insistent. Luckily, she was smart. Anyway, my husband's job deals with internet security and told her the FBI should be contacted. Lots of people think that the FBI is only for "serious stuff", like murder or most wanted. This is serious because from what I am seeing on this board, several people have been asked for personal info and could be hurt.

I never pick up on these types of calls, nor will I return their calls. I'm just amazed that, with my phone numbers on the Do Not Call list, I still get this type of garbage. What good is the DNC list, anyway?

Rcvd call 10:54 am 4/17 from 561-204-5441 WPALMBEACH, FL. I donot answer unknown callers. No msg left. Just started getting calls from this no.

I bought a software program from this person on ebay. When I went to pay through paypal, paypal responded no longer doing business. I got a number to call and talked to a christine hanley who said she was from Naples. Number was 561 204 5441. Some "mix-up" I sent check (stupid me) to an address provided. The package has not arrived and I got a warning from ebay. Called that number. Disconnected.
No Hanleys on address given. Just cancelled check. Lucky me
this is some kind of scam. Just don't know what. they hadn't cashed my check.

Anyone have any ideas?

Have caled ID, if we dont know the number we dont answer. Or if they try to sell you something offer them .50 on the dollar if you give them food stamps.

This is NEW number in the list of endless unsolicited calls I get. I didn't try to call it back.

I read through the messages before mine and got the main number and left a voice message not stating my name but just my phone number incl areacode and told them I was on the do not call list and if I recieved another unsolicited call from this company I would be sending it on to the fcc

they called me at 6:22pm pst. I let the machine take it but there was no msg. I'm on the do not call list when i called back at 6:26pm pst. I got the disconnected number recording

Got the call tonight around 8pm est about lowering my credit card debt from Card Holder Services. Pressed #1 out of courisity and told "Daniel" that I was filling a report with the FCC since I am on the DoNotCall list. All he kept saying was yes to me. I even asked him if this number was good and he said yes-wrong!! Comes up disconnected!

Got a call from 561-204-5441, I did not answer.

17:00 on a thursday. Caller Id showed "Florida Call". Left message stating it was Credit Card Services concerning my credit that is in jeopardy of being delinquent. Wrong!

After receiving the same automated message, I pressed "1" to talk to a live operator. I asked the agent who they were and where their company was located - the response was "Consumer Services. Washington State, I think.". They then abruptly disconnected the line (no surprise). Caller ID spoofing and Do Not Call List violations are one thing - but this sounds suspiciously like an identity theft operation.

Saw long distance number, answered, pressed 1 to 'get a representative' and company name, waited with 5 minutes of Muzak. Have reported them to 'Do Not Call". How is this benefiting anyone?

I got a call too! Didn't answer phone but *69 it. Got online to Google it and found this site. They left no message.

Just got a call from these people this evening, usually only my mother calls on my landline and I picked it up without looking. Got the recording about a credit card reduced rate and punched the "1" option out of curiosity and with the thought of finding out something for my report on the donotcall.gov site. But got nothing but dead silence. Immediately hung up and called back, got the "disconnected" recording. They're spoofing Caller ID and that's a clear sign of a scam.

Every call with any information you have should be reported to the FBI. In previous cases, they've told me they only start an investigation if at least ten people file complaints. So give them a call. I'll be calling them up tomorrow myself.

Sorry..."fat finger syndrome", that should have been NUMBER. Anyway, go to Google and type in "spoof your number" and see for yourself all the sites that condone this kind of CRAP!

There are several sites; Spoofcard, Spooftel, etc. that are a service which enables you to hide your ACTUAL number from caller ID's. It will show from another nimber that has been disconnected. That's why you can't call them back. Pretty sly and effective AND the company makes money from people using their services. That's where the law should step in!

Ok, you can call the number listed by "Retribution:" 1-866-969-4236, then enter extension 744 and leave them a message. If the voicemail is full, press # then enter some last name...it will likely not be on the list but you can press # again for the previous entry and go through their extension listing. I have also reported them at donotcall.gov

The call came in as a recorded urgent "final warning" about my debt from card services. I pressed "1" to speak to a representative and she told me the name of the company was "Card Services," and that my bank had referred me to them. I asked to be placed on their do-not-call list and they immediately hung up on me. Return call to number nets a "number disconnected" recording. Frauds.

Played the game; pressed 1 to talk to someone. They answered 2 minutes later and said the name is "Consumer Services" and just need to ask me a couple of ?'s to qualify me. Instead, I asked them why their number, when called back on my land line, is "disconnected". Then they hung up. If your number is registered with donotcall.gov, then file a complaint on that site; it's easy. If they get enough, they'll investigate call records and maybe you collect a reward!

Received the West Palm Beach FL 561-204-5441 on my caller ID. I did not answer and there was no answer on the answering machine.

Computer message telling me I could lower my mortgage rate. "Press 1 to connect to an agent, press 2 to opt out." I decided to play along and pressed 1 to speak to someone. Said the company name was "Financial Services" out of Ottawa, Canada. Claimed that they did not have a phone number, they only worked out of a switchboard with incoming lines. Sounded like they were used to having lots of angry people calling them.

I answered, and asked for more specific information on who they were representing... they gave me some lame company name like "card services" when i asked a second time for the name of their company they hung up on me.

same here,have had other calls from 800 and 866 stating that they were cc collections...We do not have any outstandind cc cards. This is a scam.

It was a recorded message tellig me I should call becak so they can lower my credit card interest rates. It was NOT from anyone I've ever done business with. Clear violation of "DO NOT CALL" rule.

At 10:45 CST received call from this number. Experiences were same as stated by others. We have no relationship with this company or any "accounts" with it. Would think phone number can be easily traced. We too, are on the no-call list.

At 10:18am caller ID showed call from W. Palm Beach, Fla 561-204-5441. Do not know anyone in W Palm Beach or in Florida, therefore did not answer phone. Caller did not leave message. Tried to do a reverse phone lookup. Only info found was that it is a landline in West Palm Beach, Fla and the service provider is South Central Bell. No name available or is a private Number. I just do not answer calls from numbers I do not recognize.

If you can't get through their phone queue then try hitting random numbers for an extension and you might get through. Obviously they are annoying 1000's of people and the ftc doesn't seem to be able to do anything. Also listed below is their web domain info. If you're annoyed enough you can complain to their ISP or the upstream ISP that owns the block of ip addresses - in this case VERIO. You might need to do this since americandebtnegotiators.com is registered in Australia (suspect in itself).

A new twist! It was a computer announcing that the "loan with 'something county municipal loan' was about to expire!! & IF it was to stay on the line to..." BE RESCUED (I added the last part.) I wonder how many people these slimy trollers manage to snare this way?

Left no message, caller ID said "W Palm Beac, FL" (yes, just like that) and the number 561-204-5441. There are ways to spoof caller ID, so it is not surprising that they are making a number appear that is actually disconnected, and it is very unusual for a location to appear instead of a name or business name, though not unheard of. They could be calling from anywhere, so we can't even assume they are actually in Florida. Just think, some day in hell, they are going to meet all the people they called. Sweet. Not me though, I'll be in heaven.

This number calls several times a week. Sometimes it will leave a message about remaining on hold for important account information. I reported the number to the FCC DNC Registry

I'm thinking that the only way to get the government to do anything is by contacting the media. Look at the Walter Reed scandal. Those soldiers would still be being abused if the horrors were not made public. Call Dateline or some other show, that has viewers, and maybe they will explain the problem, how to avoid it, and how the government has basicly failed to protect us again.

It's a boiler room operation. If you are reading this you probably did not play ball with these people. Good for you! They don't know you, they are not connected with your account and they are simply trying to get personal information on you and into your pockets. The number they call from comes up as disconnected because they have some way of masking the real number. I asked for the supervisor and, without revealing my intentions, obtained their mailing address and phone number for verification purposes. All the information they gave me turned out to be false. i filed a complaint on the DNC List but I think that will be futile since the name of the company and the number are bogus.

I questioned them regarding how they obtained my unlisted number. They hung up on me. I tried to call them back and the number came up as a wrong number and the call couldn't be completed. How can this be since they just called me?

I got a call from this number and I didn't answer because I didn't recognise it. I was at my best friends house today and I noticed he received a call from the same phone number. I then put the number into a reverse search and found that their Local Phone Company is Bell South. Maybe someone should call and complain to Bell South about this.

I am so frackin' tired of getting these kinds of calls. They don't say anything or leave a message. And when you try to call them back...they are disconnected. There should be something that can be done about this crap!!!

Got the v-mail message described by everyone else. I suspect that it is a debt collection company trying to collect on a bogus debt.

Got a call from this number but didn't answer. They left a message asking us to take advantage of low rates to extend our warranty on our vehicle. They didn't leave a call back number, just said to press 1 to be transferred to an operator.

got this call around 403 pm. did not recognize the number. did not call them back either. sometimes if you answer they know that your number is active and probrably could run up your phone bill with long distance calls.it is a scam of some sort. BEWARE

I've gotten many calls from various numbers, all of which end up being American Debt Negotiators. I have reported each and every call to the do not call website, and I have listed the company's name on every report. Their phone number listed on their website is 866-969-4236 and I include that in the dnc report, even though they are re-routing their calls through disconnected numbers.

I answered the call (this is not the first time they've called here) and tried to get the name of their company and a phone number where I could reach them (so I could report them to Do Not Call). They were incredibly stealthy, and demanded personal information from me before they would give me their phone number. When I asked if they'd heard of the Do Not Call Registry, they hung up.

I got a call this morning from this number. It said on the caller ID FLORIDA. I did not call it back, don't know what kind of scam this is.

These scammers are spoofing the caller ID system, using a disconnected number to make it harder to shut them down for violating the NoCall list laws.

Sometimes, if you just pick the phone up and say nothing, you will be removed from the auto-dial list.

Do NOT supply any personal data to this caller. They are trying to get your social security number or the verification code on your credit card by telling you that they have reviewed your account and you qualify for something better...

I got a call from this # around 12:30 pm today...no message left and # was disconnected when I tried to call back this evening.

called at 7pm on a friday night and didn't leave message. said it was disconnected when i tried to call it back 2 minutes later.

Caller ID came up as W. Palm Beach Florida, Message was left on my answering machine on two different days stating that it was Lisa @ card services, then Johnathan @ consumer services. Both stating that there was nothing wrong with my card accounts, and that they were offering an opportunity to lower my intrest rates. And both stated that it would be my final opportunity to do so. Also both calls were press 1 to talk to a rep, and the 1st call was press 2 to opt out, and 2nd call was press 3 to opt out. Sounds bogus to me!

Go to interceptorid.com and they have a special caller id box that will let you totally control who calls you. you can block any # or all 800 it is great and I do not work for them or make any money from this it is just great device. Ditto for us. This number came up on caller id as West Palm Beach, FL. I didn't answer it and we are on the do not call list. We are getting alot of solicitation calls lately anyway. I have no idea how we are so freaking lucky....

2nd strange call in 2 days w/2 different area codes and numbers. This is BS! Been getting odd calls last 3 months......I don't answer any of them!

I did not answer the phone because I did not recognize
this number. So, I google this number to find out about the call, I tried to call the number back within 5 minutes, HOWEVER, I GOT A RECORDING STATING "We're sorry but you have reached a number that has been disconnected." I am on the DO NOT CALL LIST.

Received a call from this number on my home line. No one said anything upon answer.

the same as others, why can they not list their name or just don't call?

I called the number back and it was disconnected, with in 5 minutes of receiving the call.

My sister and I received a call from this number 1 hr apart, strange thing is we both live in different counties. called back from pay phone said disconnected

Wouldn't pick up. Based on these other comments, glad I didn't. Caller ID said West Palm Beach, Florida. Why am I suddenly getting calls like these when I am on the Do Not Call list?

Same as others. Call was about reevaluting our credit card account. We tried to call back within two minutes after the call and the number was disconnected. The caller ID showed up as W Palm Beach, FL.

I have my answering machine set to never take messages for out of area code callers so I don't know if they would have tried to leave a message.

I tried to return the call and got the operater message that the number was out of service

same crap like what everyone's reported - get a call from a Michael saying there's nothing wrong with my credit card at this time but to press 1 to re-evaluate the account or press 2 to be removed. I didn't push any buttons or call back. I hate these freaking scams and I'm sick and tired of them!

this is horse crap. I will NOT call them back nor answer the phone. I have been getting atleast 10 calls a day from unknown...800 866 and others. I am on the no call list and I owe nothing. I just paid off my cc...and have not even gotten paper bill yet. BS I hate this crap. SOOO annoying.

This is a slick dodge to avoid "DO NOT CALL" rule. Report them as violators, both to state and federal agencies. Uf you answer, they will probably use your number for other calls to your "call responsive number."

I experienced the same thing. Got a cut of message about re-evaluating my account. Tried to call it back 15 minutes later and it is disconnected.

was discounted. How could the # be discounted in 10 minutes.Have no idea who it may have been.
