69 calls reported from this number. According to 13 reports the identity of this caller is GRC
How do I stop them from calling?
- Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
- If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
- Block them with a call blocker:
Uniden DECT1288 blocks up to 20 numbers, plus Private and Unknown, with the reject tone, without ringing the phone.
Panasonic KX-TG106 blocks up to 30 numbers, plus all unidentified callers, with a busy tone, after the phone rings once.
JF Teck Caller ID with Ring Controller blocks up to 70 numbers, and can be set to always allow up to 100 to ring through.

You must have the wrong thread, Mel. There is not one entry here about dropped calls or even hinting at equipment failure. What I do see is an unhealthy proportion of aggressive skip trace calls made to people who are total strangers to the alleged debtors. Clearly you are misinformed about this agency's "only" reasons for calling. Maybe you should revisit the entries from Ed and Lizzy and Jessica. These are not rare incidents; this happens every working hour with debt collectors. From what I have read all over the industry, student loan collectors act like drunken cowboys since that debt category is so hard to renegotiate and discharge.
To all ... You do not seek counsel from a debt collector about what you may owe, not one which has repeatedly been caught lying and breaking Federal law. That's like asking the fox to inventory your chickens. You make the collector validate, as required by the FDCPA. If you get pelted with calls for the wrong person, you have no obligation to join the search party and you don't have to sit quietly as the phone rings whatever times a day. As suggested prior, a written cease-comm puts the collector on notice and in a costly hot seat if your demands are ignored.
If you are receiving repeated, misdirected, and/or abusive calls from a third party debt collector, you may find relief in the provisions of the FDCPA, which regulates collector behavior and provides you simple tools for your own defense. It grants you control of how you are contacted, and collectors can be sued for their crimes. Learn your rights and first response tactics at FTC-dot-gov.
This is a legit phone number...unfortunately there are problems with their operator line which either ends your call (disconnection from their end) as soon as their is a connection...or it will continue to ring. It is a Collection Agency and the only time that this number would call you is if...you know of someone that has went to a College (on campus or online) or has taken a loan out for something or you have taken out a loan or received service for something and you have not made a payment. As this Collection Agency deals with more then College Loans it deals with a lot more companies as well. If you are a person of concern about your credit then I suggest that you continue to call the number to find out what it is you owe money for and or give them the number to whom they are looking for as they have a outstanding debt. If you do not care then do NOT continue to try and answer their phone calls and do NOT call them back. Perseverance is key here...as stated in the beginning you will have to keep trying to call them back as it is a problem on their end. Hope this resolves some of your issues with this phone number :) Good luck to all.
Receive many calls from this number. Usually no one is there. I tried to call the number back and it just keeps ringing.
One of the people who called me claimed their name is General Revenue, but I have found information supporting they may be called Global Revenue. Scammers, liars, and rude is all they are. They don't care what the truth is. I will share my story on every message board I can find. This company calls me constantly. They are looking for a relative of my landlord. I have no idea how they got my number. I have asked for them to repeatedly remove my number from their database as I am not the person they are looking for. They are rude and they get angry when myself or my boyfriend refuse to answer their questions. I called them back after my boyfriend got off the phone with one of their rude representatives today and the woman said she couldn't find my name in her database or the name of the person that her co-workers keep calling my house for. Liars!
They identified themselves as GRC (a Government run debt collection agency)These morons have been calling my mentally retarded daughter TRACFONE that I bought her for emergency communication with me and her mom. It is now Feb of 2010 and they have been calling her phone up to 6 times a day starting at 6 am and asking for some jerkoff named DAN! I called these pissants several times and explained that they are calling a disabled persons emergency phone line and scaring her for no reason. I told them that she cant even write her own name and she has never had any kind of account. They called me a liar and hung up on Me! I have made a BBB complaint and am going to my ststes attorney General's office next, but this is bullshit! They cost me money, time and possibly the safety of my daughter who gets her minutes burned up by these jagoffs!
Definitely General Revenue Corp. Identified themselves even - called them and told them this was a business number and that "he" no longer works here.
We kept getting calls from this number for someone named James. We've had the same number for over 3 years and have never known someone by this name. We had asked them repeatedly to stop calling us since we did not know the person they were searching for. After getting called 4 times in one week for James, I demanded to speak to their supervisor. First the supervisor acted like I was lying to him about not knowing the person, then he asked me my and my husband's name and said "Well, maybe YOU are in our system." And told me there was no reason to get upset with him. I am about to report them to the Ohio attorney general. I was never told the company name either, so I did a search and found this site.
You can send a "cease and desist" letter to them, make sure you send it certified w/return receipt, if the call's continue, ask to speak w/ supervisor, inform them of your letter you sent and that you will be making a formal complaint w/the FTC and the states attorney general's office. their address

This is a personal business matter, not a telemarketer call, this is whats on the answering machine
Don't know why they are calling, but I do not owe anything. They are going to run up my cell phone bill if I answer. I just let it go to voicemail, for I don't appreciate those pinheads. I DON"T OWE SHIT!!!!!
GRC is leaving messages on answering machine for a person (Doug or Douggie?) who has the same last name as me but is not related to me nor lives with me (which seems to be the case with others who have responded). Messages clearly stated that they are debt collectors attempting to collect a debt (student loan most likely) from this guy and that any information obtained will be used for this purpose.
Next time they call I intend on informing them that leaving such messages to a third party is illegal under federal laws (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act) and to cease future calls immediately as I do not know this "Doug" person.
They called my home, left no message so I called back. She could not find anything in her system, either by name or phone number. How come they cannot find me when I call them back???
Anyway, after an extended phone call here is what I know: They are a collection agency for Sallie Mae student loans. I am nowhere in their system, however they could have me as a reference on someone else's loan and therefore they manually dialed the number & it won't come up when they look for it in their system.
I have absolutley no clue who they could be calling for. I have my student loan automaticlly deducted and if there were any issues I would have heard directly from Sallie Mae.
If you do get a call, I suggest you talk to them & figure out what is going on. Defaulting on a student loan is REALLY bad for your credit. This is a debt that will never go away until paid in full, by the way.
woman called asking for "Carlos Gomez" - our last name but I said that we don't know anyone named Carlos Gomez -I asked where she got our # - she said it was used as a "reference number" - again, stated we don't know that person - she asked if it could be my husband's brother - again I stated "we don't know that person - I don't know how to make it any clearer to you!"
guess she'll just call everybody named Gomez until she finds someone named Carlos - what an idiot!!
called me last night. 10:30PM ! isn't that illegal? geez. I am still NEVER going to answer. STOP CALLING !
Called twice in a row just now, knocking me offline. I work online and have Caller ID box to show me who is calling. Usually it doesn't knock me offline, but if someone repeatedly calls it might.
Says UNKNOWN NAME and no message. I'm on the DO NOT CALL list
collection agency.calls everyday. no matter what time it is. called my job same number and now i NEVER answer.
look like someone want my info, maybe a fraud.
regularly calls every day
no message
Got a call on my cell phone with no message. Called back and talked to someone very nice, who said the company was GRC. He asked if I was "Miss Owens" (I'm not), and verified my phone number (He told it to me, I did not give it to him). He said they would remove me from their list... these things always make me nervous!
Call around once a day, sometimes morning, sometimes night. Don't leave a message.
I don't answer if I don't know who it is, and if it's legit and important I have voicemail.
Collection agency trying to collect on a bank loan. They don't have to abide by the do not call list because they DO have a legit reason to call... unless of course you're not the person they think you are.
They call me several times a day looking for someone who has my same first name but not my last name to collect on a student loan from a college I have never attended. Judging from the other posts here, they don't bother to research the information on the person they are actually trying to contact. I guess they figure if they just randomly harass everyone named James, they'll eventually find the right person. Idiots.
Continually calls, I have Dialup (with Caller ID box and Voice mail) and work online, so only go off to answer if I know who it is, and it's important.
This number calls me several times a day. No message. Do they think harrassing someone will get them to answer?
recorded message. unable to find out who or what business it is. going to file charges against this company.
this person left a twenty minute voicemail that consisted of someone yelling hello and then car noises.
This call is apparently in violation of the "do not call" list.
Looking for someone NOT at this Address/phone. Somewhat rude insisting they were correct. Go figure.
Phone rang about once a week on my Skype and did not leave any messages. I got my Skype phone number since late January.
This was a recording, I hung up. Idon't appreciate the caller ID showing up unidentifiable.
message on answer machine "please wait for the next available operator it is very important that we talk to you" then few seconds later someone saying hello hello then hangs up never telling us who they are.
collection agency for small school loan. insists on knowing how much you have paid on your loan with the school. very pushy and threaten to take you to court
calls and hangs up without leaving a message. caller id displays "unknown caller" I just want to say, if they don't want me to know who they are then quit calling. And blocked callers beware. You will never get an answer
Received the same type call...this is a collection agency of some sort. When call receive, inform them to stop calling...verify their name and if you receive a call 3x's take them to small claim court. Make-em pay...that will get their attention.
Call constantly, never any message, my # is on do not call list.
Didn't recognize the number. Didn't answer
Calls about twice a week- never answer. I answered today- a computer voice said-, "hello- it is very important that we speak with you. Please stay on the line and an agent will be on shortly."

Call about once a day, but never leave a message. I called back today but blocked my number. They said their name was General Revenue, but would not state their business then hung up on me.

Collection agency wanting to collect on a loan made by my previous college. They call about once a week.
No reason for them to be calling me yet they insist on doing it.
The person said his name and he kept asking my name but wouldn't state his business
Phone rang, no message left on my answering machine, caller just hangs UP
telemarketer looking for someone else. Very rude. When we asked for them to take us offtheir list, they said they didn't have a list and hung up.
