Got 2 calls last night; one from this number. Second call was an attempt from 678-561-0907. Did a check on 0300 and found it was from the FCJ. Second number showed up as a landline in Jonesboro. Accepted call from inmate and demanded his GDC number. He did NOT ask me to press ANY number whatsoever, NOT #72 or *72 or anything and claimed to know my husband from RSAT at another facility (which might be possible). Said he was just calling to find out if my husband was home. I said no, and I was going to call the jail and confirm that he's there, and then tell the watch commander that he called my house looking for my husband. He seemed fine with that and was not inappropriate in any way. The total call lasted about 5 minutes and the charge was $2.99 for the call and $0 for every minute thereafter. I spoke to watch commander's office and made her aware of the possible scam from inmates who pass around other inmates' numbers in order to make collect calls and impersonate loved ones. While I emphasized to the WC that this was NOT the case, I reported it anyway. Interestingly, I asked the inmate whether or not he called last night and he said yes, twice. I asked him if he left my husband's name as a caller during one of those attempts. He maintains he did not. Yet, I have the answering machine playback. I will save that.
I got a call from this number on my cell phone and started to say hello. A recording came on and stated, "this number does not accept collect calls". I just hung up.
CALLED MY OFFICE TWICE AND THERE WAS LAUGHING IN THE BACKGROUND.
Someone keeps calling collect. I do not know who is calling because only collect and my phone does not accept collect calls.
UPDATE:
This phone number is a payphone at the Fulton County Jail. The inmates are picking numbers at random trying to get people to accept their call and then call someone for them by hitting 72# and a number. If you do this, it forwards your phone service so that this inmate can charge phone calls to your phone. Best bet is to not accept the call. Have your number blocked by calling (404) 613-2049. The officer over Security will block your number.
Received a collect call from this number (404-942-0300) said it was a collect call then went dead, I use Boost Mobile and checked my phone from another phone to make sure it has not been forwarded. Luckily so far it has not. Called number back a recording said not in service. I Like having Boost as they do not allow collect calls and call forwarding can only be done through the handset! Yea! I actually did make a good phone service selection!
Upon researching the number I traced it back to the Fulton County Jail 3rd floor.
This phone is being used to conduct a scam known as *72 or 72#. It is used to trick people into putting their phone in call forwarding mode so the inmates can make phone calls and not have to pay for them. If anyone contacts you from the jail and ask that you contact their mom or anyone else by dialing this extention and then a telephone #, hang up immediately, or you could possibly be stuck with paying for these calls. For more info, Google #72.
it was a collect call from the Fulton County Jail. I hung up the phone. Within just a few minutes they call back two more times. Each time I hung up the phone.
Tried to call collect and hung up the phone as soon as I answered.
