Got call 3-2-09 with male voice recording saying to call 1-888-819-2131, (caller ID said Zwicker Assoc 1-336-393-1086), contact immediately w/AE card ready to talk to me urgently about a personal business matter etc, etc. Called AE directly and was told the company (Zwicker) and the phone numbers have nothing to do w/AE; do not call...reported to my AG's Office and the FTC... Call was made to NH
Can't be AMEX - they don't have my cell phone # - has to be a scam - good thing I am protected: MyID.ws
hey asswipes....i dont have any money !! so stop fucking calling me !!
I suspect this may be a scam/fraud - I received a call from 336 393-1086 with a recording to call American Express Account Security 800 824-9289 to verify recent charge activity. I checked my account online and found that I had no outstanding balance. I called this number and was asked for my account number which I did not give, and I was advised to call the number on the back of my American Express Card. 9/23/2008
left a voicemail asking for me and then hung up.
I called the AmEx number on the back of the card and they told me that yes, that 336-393-1086 number is them. They were calling to verify a charge I made on Paypal that looked suspicious.
this is a scam. They use PBX software to make caller id say its AMEX a AMEX number. Kinda like how they send fake emails and it shows up as paypal.
This is a phishing scam, do not give out Amex info to these scammers.
Yep, this is Amex collections. I know, because I need to pay them. :)
This is definitely an AMEX number. I received a sketchy call that repeated the recording "Please hold for an important message from American Express" over and over. I hung up. Then, an actual person called me nearly immediately afterwards. They said that there were charges on my account that were questionable, wanted to check with me, etc. I got a little sketched out reading this page, told them I would call back, and then called the number on the back of the card. Sure enough, they re-iterated what the rep said earlier, so this is definitely AMEX.
supposedly from AE. about a "business matter". they call. no answer. call again. classic case of some kind of telemkting. many people have commented about the fact that the are calling for payment or unauthorized charges. if the later, AE always sends an official letter, immediately, if they suspected unauthorized or unusual charges. very strange.
This is a scam telephone number. What they do is make it seem like AmEx is calling you but the call is disconnected. So you call the # right back and they ask for your card # and "security code." This is not normal protocol from AmEx. Normally AmEx has a voice activated line where you say what you want (ie Travel, Balance, etc). If you call from your home phone (I did) the real AmEx automated system will verify your telephone number and let you know you have been identified as calling from your billing telephone or work telephone #. I called American Express using the # on the back of my card to ask about the phone call from (336) 393-1086 and the customer service rep DID NOT find any reason for AmEx to call me nor was she able to validate that phone number. This is a scam folks, don't fall for it.
It's American Express calling but no one is talking !!!
I reported this might be a scam, but it is not. I verified it by calling American Express. They are really on top of suspicious charges.
American Express Security for a Fraudulent Charge. This IS an Amex number, took me directly to Security. I was asked to input my account number, when I spoke to someone, they said there was an $8200 order for FRUIT from a market and wanted to know if it was me. I was suspicious, so I asked what other charges, and they were able to provide me the last 10 charges going back over 30 days, so they are legit. They cancelled my card (tested at gas station to validate that it was in fact cancelled) and then transfered me to another deptart for Card Replacement. I got a very official email alert as well that there was a fraudulent charge, that they had cancelled this card, and a third email indicating that they would be shipping a new one.
This number called me yesterday (no message) and today (no message). I called the 800 number on the back of my Amex card and was told that they had "security concerns" and wanted to verify a couple of charges recently made. If you want to play it safe with these types of calls (because so many people are "faking" caller IDs, always hang up and call the phone number on your card. Amex stated that they will never ask you for account number or personally identifying info when they call (they already have it). HTH
not only are they now calling my cell but they got my work number and are calling and leaving that weird automated message! not happy they have my personal numbers. how do we stop it?
i called amex directly and had the guy confirm that it actually IS one of their numbers. i think that either someone is phishing internally from amex OR they're a bunch of freakin' nutballs who don't know how to communicate. one way or the other the whole think is wildly unprofessional and everyone call this number 1-800-528-4800 and 1. give them this "phish" phone number and 2. have an alert put on your account that you don't accept phone calls. period. i don't know how else to get their attention that they are contributing to fraud scares - the bloody idiots.
I am unhappy- how did they get my cell number ?
I owe them nothing
It's a scam call from "Amex". When genuinely calling, they NEVER ask for your account details, this call has done this numerous times and i have had them reported to american express' security department, their number is on the back of the card. What gave it away is the fact I never gave AMEX my cell phone number and these guys got it, I had amex block the last 4 digits of my cell phone, and they still don't have my full number, these guys are a scam, i entered a fake account number and yelled at someone on the other line. DON'T GIVE OUT YOUR INFO!
Recording saying my card has been cancel, but I don't own a amex card!
Got a message to call them and when I did, it asked for my account number. I hung up and called the AMEX number on the back of my card. They said no one at AMEX has called and put me through to their security dept. I gave them the number and they said the call was fraudulent.
I picked up the phone and got silence. The caller ID said North Carolina - I don't know anyone currently living there, nor do I have any AmEx cards.
was a pre-recorded message, an "important message"
Caller ID said North Carolina, 336-393-1086. The message said to call American Express and it was not a telemarketing call and they did not leave a number to return the call.
I called the number on the back of my card and after the rep searching for 15 minutes they confirmed that they did not make the call.
These types of scams are happening with Amex, Visa, etc...Someone calls and tries to get you to give them your number by saying there is a problem.
I saw this number on my cell phone. I didn't answer, but a few seconds later, American Express called my work phone and left a voice mail message. I don't have called ID on my work phone, so I can't verify that it was the same number. This was a day after I received an e-mail stating that they had received my payment.
Recorded voice stated, "American Express and this is not a telemarketing call." We do not have AMEX; CapitalOne.
i received call from this number almost everyday. hate it!
Its American Express collections
This is AMEX Collections....They are kind of weird....When you first get the account, they tell you that your balance from one closing cycle is due before the next closing cycle. Then when they send the bill the due date is a few weeks earlier....even if it's not due at that time. My bill closes on the 4th, and they want me to pay by the 18th, the same month....I called them and asked what's up...is my bill due on the 4th or on the 18? It's the 4th, so I don't know why people are calling me asking for my payment. Retards. Also, one month I purchased airline tickets on my amex for the reward points....the bastards cut me off for "unusual" spending patterns. I pay my bill on time every month before the closing date. No limit my ass.
Got a voicemail from AMEX for someone I have not heard of.
I saw it was AmEx, answered and the woman asked if I was [my name]. When I answered yes, she hung up. I immediately called the number and Customer Service answered. I have 3 accounts with AmEx and there wasn't a problem with any of them, yet the woman could not tell me why someone would call. AmEx has got to be THE most irritating company to deal with. Quite often, they call just to let me know when my bill is due and then try to get me to pay it early. I am NEVER late on my payments and have had no issues with my accounts, yet they treat me like some sort of a dead beat who never pays their bill.
please do not call back w/ credit card #. they are just trying to see if you are an amex customer and will give your info. better business bureau should look into this whereever they are calling from b/c it's def not legit!
This is NOT amex. I've called the main amex number 4 times in an effort to stop these calls, it's not them. Have a corporate card, this claims "small business" - which it's not and I don't owe anything.
This number calls several times a day. They let the phone ring once and then hang up.
Calls every so often-this time it was a hang-up. I also get calls from AMEX from other telephone numbers every day.
They left a message on my machine saying they were calling about an "important matter" (collections, I assume) on my American Express card. I don't have an American Express card.
AMEX- message, didn't answer
they called- its' AMEX
I got these guys to stop calling me by using a free letter on adviceontime.com i want to thank mark for giving me the website.
Answered, only heard silence.
I answered this call and no one said anything.
OMG - the call is coming from inside my wallet... Run!
Definitely AMEX.
Spoke to someone last week when they called me.
Caller mentioned my name to confirmed I picked up and then told me that it was a courtesy call made in error.
Caller id showed 336-393-1086
I never answer. They call me once every couple months. The message is all the same- AMEX regarding an important matter about my account... I don't have an AMEX account. Even called amex directly to make sure nobody opened an account under my name- nothing though.
