The phone is ringing, and I don't recognize the number,
All Caller ID says is, "NAME UNAVAILABLE".
Please help me figure out who is calling and what they want
The Internal Revenue Service warned consumers about a phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.
Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver’s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.
"The voice mail was from a male who clearly had an Indian accent. He stated that he was from the IRS legal department. He said his name was Glen Martin. He stated that they received an illegal application for tax fraud against my name and social security number. He urged me to call back before things get worse for me because it's getting ready to go to court in my county."
