Who Called Us

The is the same recorded message that starts "Congratulations! You have won free installation for our Home Security System" and goes on to say we just need to let them put a small sign in our yard. This company calls over and over and over regardless of how many times I press their listed sequence for being removed from their call list. The originating numbers differ, but the recorded message is identical and in the same voice. Just the number shows up - no location or company identified. A search on the number shows it is in Seattle, WA. Listening to the message shows them to be from a GE Home Security Installation company. I have reported them to the Do Not Call List Complaint Department (we have been on the list for 10 years now) and hope they get a 'Congratulations - you have won a free trip to the Federal prison and a 225 million dollar fine" for their continual violation of the Do Not Call list. I am now boycotting ALL GE products and recommend anyone who gets these calls to do the same - and let GE know.

Visit other call complaint sites like 800notes.com, and read the news and forums columns. There you will actually find reports about how these spam/scam/phishing sites are being identified and shut down. The sad part of all of this is that these "monsters" simply mutate into another identity under new area codes and phone numbers.

The simplest way to protect yourself is not to pick up phone calls with names or numbers/no numbers that you recognize. If you should pick up such a call, and a message tells you to press a number, do not press any numbers. Hang up immediately!

what good does it do to report to Feds or do not call as this has been going on since Aug. 2012 and is still going on. Leads me to believe nothing is done by reporting to Fed Trade Comm???

Interesting that this number has gone from security system to winner or announcement. Scam artist!!!!! I picked up and didn't say anything and they hung up after a about 30 seconds.

They call leving messages undercovered with: surveys, political organizations, charity funding, etc, which are allowed by FTC. If you call them back or you pick up the call, they will continue offering: Credit Card Services, Lower your Interest Rate, phone services, voice networks, and many others. They sell phone services, so they can call you under many differen products, dependig on their "customers". They may appear as without name on the caller ID or: Pacifictel, Political Survey, Voice Network, Political Opinion, Political Opinion of America, Flake Wilkerson Marketing Strategies International, Outsmart Marketing Solutions, Americas Survey, Public Service Announcement, opinionology of Western Watts, The Nielsen Company Ratings, CBCS Comprehensive Collection Services, Inc., Management Receivable Services, win. winner, MN, Ohio, Won a Caribbean Vacation, Caribean Cruises, Cruises, Credit Services, and many more, depending of the generic name they are working for. I've benn following this SOABs for more than 5 years, but I never, NEVER take their calls, or call them back. I report every single call to Do-Not-Call and to FTC no matter if it works or doesn't. This was a pre-recorded marketing pitch. The Caller ID was Announcement. The number in the caller ID was 206 496 0929. "Bill" was selling Monitronics Home Security from Maximum Security Inc. "Bill" told me that his company number is 888 564 5621.

Skip all the fuss. Get as much information you can from the caller then hang up. Next call the FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION @ 1-877-382-4357 or 1-877-FTCHELP. Press 1 then 3 to talk to a REAL LIVE PERSON that cares.

Probably some fly-by-night company doing outsourced telemarketing (and the occasional scam). They don't appear to care about telemarketing laws, so if you can get information on who they're calling on behalf of, call THAT company and complain to them directly; enough of that will make them take their business elsewhere.

I tried pressing the number to get connected for more information (no point in the do-not-call list one; I already know they don't give a damn about that, since I've been on the federal list since the week after I got this new number). But it just hung up on me, which is all kinds of incompetent... suppose I really HAD wanted a security system, huh? Of course, I don't; my plan was just to waste enough of their time to make them WANT to take me off their calling list.

They've called me twice in last 11 days. First time was from a different number 631-496-3381. This time I listened to a recording about the FBI reports and the security system and then went to the live operator. I knew for the first call they weren't going to leave me along so I thought I'd see if I could find out anything.

The call was about General Electric Security Systems. Supposedly, free installation in return for putting out a sign. Of course, you pay a monthly fee. Clearly violates DNC law. I told the live operator I was on the federal and state do not call registries and why did she think her call was exempted from the law. I was expecting her to say something like "we aren't selling anything just giving away security systems" or something like that. But, she responded "because the law doesn't do any good" and hung up. At least she was honest about that. I filed complaints and listed General Electric Security Services as the caller although I suspect GE contracts this out in order to avoid bad publicity and legalities. I'm going to try to find some at GE (outside of the security services) and ask them how they feel about disrespecting people's rights and disregarding the law. They probably wouldn't like a bunch of people stealing their light bulbs.

they keep showing on my caller id. doesn't matter, i have digitone. Only calls that can ring my phone have to be on my list of okay calls, plus you can block entire area codes and all 800, 866, 877, etc numbers. It was the best investment. I just from time to time review my caller id on my phone to see how many calls have been rejected.

I found that 206-496-0929 is a Washington State number. 949-201-4136 is a California number.

Suggest report both numbers to Nat'l Do-not-call list.

If that doesn't work, I plan to write my Congressman and inquire why it is that we pay taxes for Nat'l Do-Not-Call list, but they don't enforce it.

Less than 1 minute later got call from 949-201-4136. When answered, they yelled and made honking and beeping and other noises. So I called them back.... got some Pakistani-sounding bitch who said they were a "locksmith service". Told her I was sending her number to California attorney general: She claimed they had nothing to do with telemarketing, or selling security systems..... that they had nothing to hide. BULLSHIT ! They're making the scam calls, routing them through Seattle to try to hide their illegal activities.
