Recording of woman's voice saying, we've been trying to reach you about an important opportunity to become a government insurance processor, with salaries starting at "$38,000 a year". At the end of the recording, the last words are: For more information, press 1 now. So I did that-I was prepared because I missed the call b-4 and I wanted info and to know how they got my PRIVATE number- and a female operator came on. With very little info given, She asked me for "$69.00" for this kit. I said ok, but I
need to know who I am giving money to. I need the companies info, name address and phone. She gave me the name and phone and then she hung up

So after being promised that my order had been voided, nothing shipped to me and nothing charged to my credit card, I recieved the "packet" in the mail today and of course my card has been charged. I am not the least bit suprised, as my card had been charged within five minutes of the initial phone call. I have emailed the person who in an email to me assured me that my order had been voided, and asked them how this can be easily resoved. These folks work fast, but I am sure it will not be resolved so quickly. We will see.

Has anyone actually purchased this program and tried to make use of it? It just doesn't seem reasonable to me and I am sure there are many extra fees associated once one begins the process?

These people have responded to my email and promised me my order has been cancelled and my credit card not charged. I hope I am wrong about them. I am really suprised that they responded so quickly and this does speak well for them, although I have yet to call my credit card company back and confirm the cancelled charges. best wishes

I like an idiot, gave them my credit card info. After hanging up the phone, I immediately became suspicious and called my credit card company. They said I would have to wait for my bill and then to file a contract resolution with them, and that this would take 45 to 60 days. I then tried to call GMI Enterprises back from the number they had called me from and recieved a disconnected number recording. I then called on a number that had been provided to me by GMI and got through to a person who told me it was too late, I would have to wait for the information packet to arrive in 7-10 days and then go through refund procedures. I have emailed this company and do not expect them to return my emails or my money. I think myself an intelligent person and cannot believe I so readily gave my credit card info over the phone without even checking into the legitimacy of a business. I live in Portland Oregon and these people are doing business in a neighboring town and it does not seem reasonable to me that they could not stop the processing of my order and cancel the transaction, especially since it had been only a few minutes, less than half an hour. I seriously doubt that this is legitimate and there are probably fees associated with following up on "processing" these refund checks that is not disclosed immediately by the person selling it over the phone. Also, why would someone be marketing this on the phone instead of being a rebate processor themselves?

I sent an email to the FCC regarding GMI & sent GMI a copy of the same email Tuesday evening. I requested a refund from GMI. I just received a phone call from GMI (10:30am Wed) & they said they would be "happy to refund my money". Quick response, huh? She didn't sound too happy about it, though! I'll let you know how long it takes to get our refund.
Has anyone found this company on the Better Business Bureau site? The woman said to look under zip code 97062, but I couldn't find anything with that name.

It really is a scam people. Curt Dawn and Kirsti Hegg (aka Kirsti King) run a home business selling these lists for $79. Google Curt Dawn and you'll see how he does it with his "secrets to his wealth". If you could make money from this, they would do it. But there is a fortune to be made selling the dream of a home business and getting rich quick. Send in your $79 and you'll never see it again. Only the owners will get rich. These people are high tech scam artists. They are dishonest opportunists.

Received this call an a second in-coming line at work and was told I could process refunds on FHA loans. I asked if they worked for FHA and he said no they didn't work for them, but with them. The caller said his name was Mike from GMI Enterprises in Portland Oregon. He said I could make about $38,000 doing this work if I paid $69. I said I would be happy to do so if they would take the $69 out of my first paycheck. Needless to say that was the end of that conversation.

Question 17: Does HUD have any job opportunities where I can work from home?

Answer: HUD does not have any jobs specifically for work-at-home employees, although some existing HUD employees may have some limited permission to work from home depending on the job type and situation. You may have seen an advertisement for work tracking down people who are due an FHA refund. While those ads sometimes sound as if you'd be working for HUD from your home, this agency does not endorse, regulate, monitor, or contract out for those services.

The lady who called me is named Patricia. Says she is an Independent Contractor for GMI Enterprises. She says GMI stants for Government Mortgage Insurance Enterprises located in Portland, OR.She says you have to pay $69.00 for the Orientation Manual and their CD to instruct you on how to do business from your home processing Government refunds to Home Owners who have paid off their mortgage. She says you can earn $400 - $800 for each processed Government refund to the home owners. You are paid according to the refunds you process. She also said you have to pay around $20 for each state list that the Government would supply. She said you would be a Independent Contractor, responsible for your own taxes.

I got a call too yesterday and just read another website that GMI Enterprise is for real. Someone confirmed it. The first post I found is here at http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/888-225-0068 under Dave Patersons post it's on the 2nd page a ways down. It leads you from there. There's also some BBB stuff above that post that looked good too.

I received this call ofering a FHA refund scheme which promised that I would receive 400 to 800 dollars for every person I helped to get an FHA home loan refund...I would have had to send them 69 dollars to enroll in the program to receive leads to close..

basically the same as the rest of these other people calls and I was the sucker who purchased it. When these scammers take advantage of innocent decent people who are working so hard to make ends meet. I wasn't looking for a get rich business. I wanted to work from home so I could do it while the baby was napping or down at night, and I was still available for the older kids to do school events, doctor appointments, or anything else that with a regular job I would have to take time off from to do. Now that is $79.00 gone from my kids. It is really sad when we have gotten to the point that we can no longer trust anyone. I don't know if I am missing out on legitimate opportunities now but anyone that calls me now about working from home the call is done I will not let another person take from kids again.

I received two calls from this company from two different phone numbers listed in one of the comments below to my cell phone which is on the Do Not Call list. This number 9712853130, contacted me on 2/27/08 and this number 503-828-1894 contacted me on 3/3/08. Neither time did they leave a message. Hey Pamela, thanks for you post about HUD's warning on their website for people to beware. I looked into it and found some interesting information. I called HUD today and they said the problem they've had were processors holding checks as ransom from the people who were owed the money and processors tried to deposit the money into their own bank account. In other words, the individuals/processors/tracers would deposit the full check in their own bank that should have gone to the people that were owed the money. So, HUD put that statement up on their website to protect people from independent refund processors, NOT companies that offer materials that show processors/tracers how to process refunds. Also, the woman at HUD said they (the government) ship out lists of names and addresses of people who haven't claimed their refunds to processors/tracers daily and that HUD charges a small fee to processors/tracers to get those lists. So, it turns out that people like us can process refunds so long as we follow HUD's rules and not rip off those owed a refund. I felt WAY more comfortable after talking to HUD directly. I called GMI back and ordered the package today, yeah!!!

Didn't recognise the name or the area code, so I didn't answer. No message. *60 will block incoming calls from that #. I don't think this is a 'special feature' . . . I think everybody can dial *60 and the prompts will tell them what to do.
I'm also arranging one entire night where myself and about 15 of my friends are going to spend about 4 hours straight doing nothing but calling these guys at their home(s). If that doesn't work, were going to start shipping unrefridgerated fish to all of their available addresses.

I don't find anything through all the search engines on this "GMI" company! They were very willing to tell me info as to when they started and info on payment and pay scale but never clear on any particulars. I declined the offer! A lot of times when it sounds to good to be true it probably isn't!!!! Word to the wise it is real hard to work for Government and they usually require a degree. I was called from 971-285-3130 at almost 1pm cst on 2-26-08. I was told that I would only need to pay $69 to have the welcome/orientation packet sent to me. Also, that I would be able to make between $400 and $800 per refund as my commission. I was curious and wanted more information, so I waited on the line for the operator. The only information that they were willing to give was the same phone number that I had just been contacted by, not even a company name. They were quick to tell me that since I didn't have a checking/savings account or a credit card that I could use a pre-paid credit card. How thoughtful. Telling me how to spend my own money and all. Definately a scam.

I wonder if they're fraudulently getting our numbers through Monster or another job site. I get a different operator each time who swears they will stop but the calls keep coming. I don't know how I was chosen by them to be called because I am the only one who uses this phone, but they insist that I registered with them. I got a call on my cell phone from this number. I didn't recognize it, so I didn't pick up, but since I recently received several telemarketing/scam calls on my cell phone, I decided to call it back on a work line. I reached a pre-recorded message:

"We've been trying to reach you regarding an immediate opportunity to work as a government insurance refund processor starting at up to $38,943 per year. Work from home, flexible hours, no weekends, processing government insurance refunds to homeowners. Duties include receiving, screeninig and processing FHA refund notices. No experience necessary for this opportunity. Start immediately. Call 971-285-3130 to hear a recorded message. Again that number is 971-285-3130. Thank you."

Then another voice says, "Thank you for calling" and hangs up the call.

As far as I can tell, the intial call in violation of FCC telemarketing rules if they don't give you an opportunity to ask to be taken off the list. Plus, I have no pre-existing relationship with these people.

I received a hang-up call from this number (located in Austin TX) and called it back. There was a recorded message soliciting an employment opportunity for FHA government refund processing. The message stated that if the listener wants more information, to call 971-285-3130 (located in Portland OR), which is another recorded message. Today I registered my cell phone on the National Do Not Call Registry website, but there is a 31-day grace period before I can lodge a complaint to the government DNC website.
