This is fraudulent. SunTrust representative said they never ask you for your ssn # they have it. Idiot scammers

Asked for my ss# to verify it was me and that I was owner of Suntrust account. I refused. Then asked for my account number. I refused. Gave me a number to call back saying it was a suntrust number. I haven't received any notifications from Suntrust about anything. Everything I've found on Internet says this is a scam. They've called several times
This is SunTrust Bank Cardmember Services. If you don't pay your credit card on or before your due date. you will get a call. They need to let the client know about not receiving your payment before reporting to credit bureau. Under FDCPA they need to verify with last 4 of the social or complete mailing address. They will give you the option to take their employee information and take it to a branch to confirm they are SunTrust Bank, once at the branch have teller or branch manager call the 888-893-1773. If you don't make an arrangement you will receive calls everyday until payment is made. All you have to do tell them about the payment is date/amount/ method and they can set up an arrangement to stop calls immediately
This is a valid Suntrust bank number. I just answered the phone about 15 min ago and they advised I was late paying my VISA, which I was. They wanted to know if there was a reason I fell behind etc etc etc. Now, they did ask for the last 4 of my social and I wouldn't give it to them, but I did verify my address instead, and that was good enough. They also were able to give me the information on my account without me volunteering any information, so I know it was Suntrust. They just wanted to know if I was gonna pay my bill. Obnoxious but understandable.

Well, I dont believe that you should be calling folks after 9pm! I was mad and Ms Thang on the phone was a Smartie Pants! So, I hung up on her!
I am a SunTrust bank employee and I can assure you this number is a legitimate contact for my department. When placing outbound telephone calls, federal law prohibits us from releasing any sensitive information regarding the reason for the call, etc to any person without sufficiently verifying their identity. This is done for protection of private information. We usually ask to confirm ONLY the LAST FOUR digits of the social security #, but can use full name with address, etc.
I understand the hesitation when you receive an unexpected phone call and someone asks you for personal information. Look at it this way, when you place a call to a company you do business with - be it SunTrust or the cable company or your cell phone provider or what-have-you - you will be required to verify your identity and account information. Same thing goes for outgoing calls.
If you call 1-800-SunTrust or go into a branch they can verify this number for you. If they are unfamiliar with that number off the top of their head - as it is a large bank with many employees and many departments - have them call us at that number for you. I can promise you this is SunTrust bank.

I believe this is a "fishing" call to get confidential banking information. The man was looking for my spouse and refused to leave a message or state what this call was about. He only stated that his name was Muhamed and wanted to know when he could call back later.
I called my local branch about this number and they said there was no such contact from SunTrust made to my account.
