Have been receiving calls from this number and others for weeks multiple times a day. Caller id says "American Express" or "Midvale, UT" This is the message they leave every time--- "This is not the telemarketing sales call. We are calling you to discuss an important matter. Please return our call at 1-800-592-1160 and 888-819-2135. We will be available Monday through Friday from 7am or 8am until Midnight, Saturday from 8am until 6:30pm and Sunday from 10am until 8:30pm Eastern Time." (the two different call back numbers and times are from 2 different messages)- I have gotten calls from this number and the following all claiming to be "American Express" 801-945-9060, 801-945-9236, 801-945-9052, 801-945-9062, 623-492-8976, 623-492-8037,866-884-0976, 888-819-2135

I didn't answer, they hung up without leaving a message.
I immediately called the number back - it was "disconnected or no longer in service".

It's not American Express, it's a fraud looking for your info!

It's not clear from the various consumer forums if this is AmEx customer service, a collector posing as AmEx, or an identity thief. It is true that many business phone systems will capture any inbound phone numbers, even those a caller has ostensibly blocked. The FTC is touchy about calls to mobile phones due to the carrier costs, but not absolutely clear on what is legal. Under the TCPA I have read that a captured mobile number does not give "express consent" for that number to be used.

The caller identified himself as being with American Express customer service and asked for my fiance. Since they had called my cell phone I explained this was not a number where he could be reached and asked why my number was linked to his account. Scary part - he said that at some point he may had called American Express from my cell phone (very possible) and therefore they kept the number! My fiance later verified this with AMEX that they keep caller id records of every number you call them from. Imagine the possibilities if you called from a public place and the person who answered was a poser! Scary! The number is a legit connection to AMEX as they were trying to reach him immediately after a call he placed to them had disconnected. But their policy of keeping number is frightening...

rcvd caller id information:
cellular call
832-289-5235
message on answering machine stated:
"hello...this is American Express...this is not a telemarketing sales call...we are calling you today to discuss an important personal business matter regarding your American Express account...please contact us at 1-888-819-2135 and have your account number available when you call...any representative can assist you...we will be available 24 hours a day, everyday...again, please call American Express at 1-888-819-2135...thank you"
***i DO NOT have an American Express card!!!***
so, i called the number to find out why i rcvd the call and inform them i don't have a card - - - when their "represntative" finally answered my call ... he did not speak english very well and continued asking me for my account number after i repeatedly told him I DO NOT HAVE AN AMERICAN EXPRESS CARD ... i told him i want to know where they got my phone number and why i would rcv the call if i am not a card holder - - - HE ASKED ME FOR MY SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER so he could "look up" my account number - - - i told him i would not give him my ssn and at that time, he became *very* belligerent and told me to disregard the call - - - i told him i would not disregard the call, i wanted answers and i wanted to speak with his supervisor...he took my phone number so he could "look up any information attached to my phone number" and he would have his supervisor call me back...ok - SURE!
please, PLEASE, do not fall for this scam and DO NOT give these *EVIL* people your account number, personal information and certainly not your ssn!!!

Says that it's American Express and that they want to discuss an important personal matter - not a telemarketing. I bet they are TELEMARKETERS! Fraud!
