A number change is an extreme and unnecessary response. To a ''not me'' case I always recommend putting the collection agency on notice, just as you would if you were the target and the debt claim was invalid. Send a cease-comm notice via USPS Certified with return card. The FTC and many consumer watchdogs explain how to draft one. This will set a legal landmine, as such a notice is ignored at their peril. This can also help pull the agency under the shadow of TCPA, which carries treble damages for ''willful'' violation.

I came home and found a message on my machine sayng they were looking for someone who does not live here. I am getting very tired of getting calls for this person. I don't know if changing my number would do any good. I am getting tired of the harassment. Maybe I should just have the phone canceled!!!

New year, same old lawbreaking from T&K ...

If you are receiving repeated, misdirected, and/or abusive calls from a third party debt collector, you may find relief in the provisions of the FDCPA, the Federal law which regulates collector behavior and provides you simple tools for your own defense. It grants you control of how you are contacted, and collectors can be sued for their crimes. Learn your rights and first response tactics at FTC-dot-gov. See also your state laws for additional support.

IT DOES NO GOOD TO UNPLUG PHONE. I DID FOR OVER 3 MONTHS EXCEPT WHEN I USED IT. OTHERWISE A MESSAGE WOULD PLAY THAT THE CALL CANNOT BER COMPLETED. STILL, WHEN I EVENTUALLY RELENTED AND PLUGGED IT BACK IN TO MY FAX MACHINE, CALLS CAME 2-3 TIMES PER DAY AND CONTINUE TO DO SO. ROBOCALLS WILL CONTINUE UNTIL YOU DIE AND THEN THE NEXT PERSON WHO GETS YOUR NUMBER WILL ENJOY THE ENTERTAINMENT.

I need all the known numbers for this company,Tate&Kirlin. There is no way I am going to call them to ask them to remove my number from their calling list. Secondly, how can they still leave a message on my home phone when I know I have blocked the number that shows up in the caller id?

FYI - if you have any kind of account that is past due, many of these 800#s are 3rd party collection agency calling you from 8am - 9p your local time. They're legally allowed to call those hours 7 days/week. If you know you owe, don't pick up the phone boneheads. Don't answer it, even better idea - unplug it from the wall.

The reason why you may be getting calls from several different companies holding the same account is that they buy your account from the originating creditor, so yeah, 3-5 companies may be calling you for a debt that you've already paid in full. Be prepared to mail/fax the bloodsuckers copies of how you settled that debt. They go by Tate & Kirlin, Nationwide Credit, Gurstel Staloch & Chargo among others.

They keep calling my cell phone for a debt of my fiances. They started calling two days after we received a bill from Allied Interstate which is the company handling the debt. Now why would two companies be handling one debt especially if the debt is being paid!? Hmmm.... Quite odd and how did they get my cell number??? So I told the guy who called on Saturday that they could send to me via mail and the guy instantly started laughing at me and telling me to do whatever I wanted to...I told him to just send me the info in the mail and I will take it from there.. He continued laughing and repeating himself... I told him not to call me again, I have read about there fraudulent acts and scams online, they are not acredited by the BBB, etc... I told him to send paperwork and if they ever called again I would sue them for harassment... All I received was continuous laughter and the same response to do whatever I wanted to... They have five days by law to send me the paperwork I requested otherwise I can file a lawsuit... They continue calling from about 15 different numbers. I either ignore the calls or answer and say nothing. Next time I will blast music in their ears and see how they like it... I do Accounts Receivable for a living... I would never do any of the stuff they are doing... Just continue ignoring their calls... If i know the number is someone I want to speak to I answer otherwise they can leave a voicemail... These people only leave a voicemail if it is your house number... Check other posts on this company by reading up on the other numbers... You will find complaints for each phone number...

The numbers that have called me are the following:
888-799-8009
866-823-1670
267-385-3071
267-407-0100

The top three numbers all occured in one day...the 3071 number twice, the 1670 twice and the 8009 number once. Sent them a nice email telling them to stop calling or I'll be taking Mary's advice :)

This perp might not be associated with the the owner of the number but found a free usage of it. It is a private party that has accessed the federal DNC database or a downloaded copy of it. There are currently some 47 locations that have this pirated copy on their auto dialer and are changing their location periodically. There is no economic value to what they are doing since virtually no one will give personal information that permits identity theft. Eventually, the feds will catch one in violation of the statute and give the sociopaths involved a slap on the wrist. Local Committees of Vigilance may be the cure for sociopathic harassment, the same as they are for highjackers on the internet. If you find the location for someone doing this in your community, not easy, be sure the local media know about him.

They keep calling my cell and claim to be a collection agency, yet they don't even have my name right. Also I have only one loan out which has ALWAYS been paid on time. After some research here's some things I found out.

Could very well be a cyberscam. Read this article about Better Business Bureu alert on fake collection scams.

They also use the numbers...

They're an illegitimate debt collection company. For me at the moment they're trying to collect a debt that resulted 3 years ago as the result of a bank account being reopened unauthorized. I have paperwork saying when my bank account was closed and a letter from the bank stating the account being reopened was unauthorized and the debt was forgiven and the account closed again. This doesn't even appear on any of my credit reports.

I've explained to them that this is not a valid debt, but they continue to call attempting to collect $126 of an originally $226 charge. I bet I've already cost them more than that as many times as they call me, so I'm going to let them keep calling and waste their own money.

This collection agency calls my cell phone under several different numbers, which I refuse to answer. They leave prerecorded voicemail messages for someone I've never heard of and disclose that they are trying to collect a debt.

Call the Federal Trade Commission at 877-382-4357 and make a complaint. Give them as many of the numbers as you know. Also have the name and address handy when you call.

Save your complaint reference number and call again if you keep getting hassled. If enough complaints accumulate maybe something will be done.

Collection agencies buy accounts for a fraction of the amount and then try to collect. As long as they're not suing you for the debt they think they're entitled to...LET them call.

They call constantly for someone who does not live at this number. I have gone through their recording 3 or 4 times to have the number removed, to no avail. Yesterday, I went through the menu to get a representative who did not speak English well, and I was assured my number would be removed. Yet, they called again today. I just reported them to the FDC, but it's not like that will do anything.

This appears to be tate & kirklin, just some bottom feedering scum of the low life collections industry. I have wondered how anyone could actually want to make calls to people for the sole purpose of harassing them day in, and day out. These scumballs call from severl different numbers. One thing is for sure - they never stop calling.
On a side note: I'm getting fed up with the way caller ID works. I pay extra money every month for a service which is supposed to tell me who is calling. Yet, "Unavailable," "Toll free number," and others show up on my CID. Also, as part of my AT&T phone service "plan," I'm supposed to be able to block up to six numbers. Of course, these numbers cannot be blocked for some reason. I've had very little luck with the caller blocking 'feature,' and even though I've reported that fact to AT&T, it remains to be essentially an unusable and therefore useless service, for me anyway.
We - as consumers, should have more protections provided by law to prevent companies such as collection agencies from calling upwards of 10-12 times a day - every day. Sure, we can write a cease and desist(sp?) letter to the agency demanding they stop calling except as permitted by law, but that doesn't apply to the next bottom feeder they sell the dect to. Thus, you have to send yet another letter, and another, and...
I still wonder how these people that work for these agencies are able to look at themselves in the mirror. In my opinion, working the drive thru at Micky D's is a more respectable job than that of a debt collector. I just don't get how people could ever do this type of wirk. Sorry, but I needed to vent...

These jack-asses call at least 2 times a day, 7 days a week and I never answer the phone. The calls are always "Out of Area"; "Private Caller"; or "Unknown". If they don't have the balls to identify themselves then I don't answer my phone. I have NEVER answered my phone and yet they've called about 100 times in the last 3 month's.

I just sent a debt validation letter to these knuckle heads. They have been calling my cell phone 5 or more times a dayfor the past 2 days. The number I get is 888-799-8009. It is for my Best Buy credit card (that I still have and use sometimes) debt that was never credited properly back in 1999 it has been taken care of. These guys even offered to refund me my money if I just payed them the balance and then they verified it was credited towards my card. Very nice of them I thought. Just how dumb do they think I am.
