In 1999, Alliance One Receivables Management Inc. was created by mergers and acquisitions of five different companies. Under Teleperformance, Alliance One has facilities from South America to India, from the U.S. to the Philippines and even the Caribbean. Teleperformance boasts over 275 call centers and is positioned in 45 countries. Alliance One has also is in a wide variety of sectors, such as health care, retail, telecommunications, utilities, financial services, and even the government. Their client roster includes over 500 government entities and courts

Most collection agencies operate on a contingency basis, which means that they do not get paid by their client unless and until they collect from the consumer. If and when the agency receives monies from a consumer, the agency then gives their client a pre-determined percentage of the monies recovered. The remainder belongs to the agency.

Oftentimes, debt collection agencies buy these debts for just pennies on the dollar. The debt collector is free to seek as much money from the consumer as they can regardless of what they paid to buy the debt. This amounts to large profit margins for them.

Typically, employees of debt collection agencies are motivated with performance-based bonuses determined by the amount of money they are able to collect from a consumer.

Regardless of what specific methods a debt collection agency uses in their attempts to collect a debt, it is clear that the agency is in the business of making money first and foremost. And that money comes from you – the consumer. Hopefully, you now have a better understanding as to why collection agencies use such aggressive behavior in their interaction with consumers.

Consumers around the globe have long complained about the unfair and often unethical tactics used by debt collection agencies and thus, the FDCPA - a federal law meant for the protection of consumers. It encompasses a set of rules governing the activities of collection agencies.

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation, known for drawing attention to government spending, has been hit by a U.S.-based scam that poses as survey research before offering participants a free cruise, which is really a front for a high-pressure time-share sales tactic.Sean Kilpatrick/Canadian Press
A Canadian group that advocates for lower taxes has been hit by a U.S.-based scam that poses as survey research before offering participants a free cruise, which is really a front for a high-pressure time-share sales tactic.

The scheme involves automated telephone calls, known as robocalls, that use a handful of survey questions as a way to get around do-not-call lists in Canada and the U.S.

In a number of calls reported in Canada, the recording asks a series of questions ostensibly on behalf of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, including about MP pensions, then offers participants a free cruise in the Bahamas. People who have accepted report being subjected to high-pressure sales tactics intended to sell them time-shares, according to reports online.

Troy Lanigan, president of the CTF, said the organization has nothing to do with the calls, known as the Love Boat scam.

"I don’t even want to tell you how frustrating it is," he said, after speaking to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, the CRTC, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission and the Better Business Bureau.

"There’s not a lot [we can do]."

Lanigan said he tried to trace the phone numbers that appear on recipients' call display, but the callers, who say they're from the Independent Survey Group, use a method called spoofing to get a fake number to appear.

"It’s terribly embarrassing for us. You feel so powerless," Lanigan said.

"If a vendor makes a mistake, you phone the vendor, you get it corrected right away, you apologize to the people involved and you move on. But in this case, you're fighting a ghost. You just spend time researching it online and trying to track it down."

Lanigan blogged about the problem on the CTF's website at the end of June in an attempt to tell supporters. He said the people who first complained to them about the calls aren't even supporters or on their mailing list.

He's asking anyone who gets a call to phone the CRTC, which regulates telecommunications in Canada, at 1-866-580-3625, and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501. For the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, cite reference number 738231.

Info on Air Canada's site:

Telephone scam:

There currently is a random, old-fashioned telephone scam being conducted in Canada to obtain credit card numbers and other personal information from the general public.

The most common approach is for an individual to receive a phone call, sometimes computer-generated, advising him or her that they have won a trip, vacation or other sort of prize from Air Canada, or another well-known company. The individual is then asked to provide a credit card number and/or other personal information.

THIS IS A SCAM as Air Canada does not engage in phone promotions. These incidents should be reported to the RCMP Canadian Anti-Fraud Call Centre by calling 1-888-495-8501 (PHONEBUSTERS), sending an email to them at: info@phonebusters.com or online at:
http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/scams-fraudes/tf-ft-eng.htm

WARNING - The scam is occurring nationally by phone and are posing as WestJet or other reputable companies.

There are several variations to this scam, for example, Canadian Tire, air miles, and all will tell you that you won a prize, but you will have to give you credit card # to secure it.

WestJet has released that they do not engage in telephone marketing or share guests personal info with third parties for use in telephone marketing.

For more information on this and other scams, visit phonebusters.com. It is recommended that you hang up and call 1-888-495-8501 or email info@phonebuster.com to report it.

So I proceed with the following:

To start resolving this issue, I recommend the following.
1. Ask for the supervisor once you have a real person from 877-289-5108 and give them a new asshole while asking for removal from their list.
If 1 is not possible go directly to number 2.
2. Call RBC Insurance directly @ 1-888-659-0199 and share your issue with the rep and then ask for a manager and share your story again. The bank will be very interested in your feedback as a client and take these complaints VERY seriously and they also have the resources to stop these outside companies from irritating their clients.
3. Contact RBC Fraud dept’ if you feel that you may be a victim of fraud at 888-495-8501.

All in all, it seems these guys are a bunch of clowns getting off on wasting peoples time but, just remember to protect yourselves and DO NOT give any information over the phone.

Caution: Not every Triton Technologies may be the same!
The Triton Technologies based in Massachusets and
Eric Chasen may have nothing in common with the
scumbag outfits in Michigan.
If you have some way to connect them please post it.
----------------------
It looks like a Michigan telephone company Lucre has
an incestuous relationship to a phone sales boiler
room operation called Triton, with common employees
and an address right next door.
This incestuous relationship allows Triton
to have UNLISTED phone numbers galore and to
fake the Caller ID at will using trunk lines.

I think Jon K "JK" Hale is the head rat although

"R Steve" "Steve" (71?) is officially the head rat.

Pearson NCS or Financial Services Scam Alert

Many people have received a letter, supposedly from “Pearson NCS” or “Pearson Financial Services,” saying they have won prize money (usually $58,000). This is a scam. The people sending the letters are attempting to trick the recipients into sending them money, allegedly to cover “international transaction fees.” The check that is included with the letter is also a fake. Please do not try to cash the check or call the number on the letter.

We are working with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to determine who is operating the scam, which appears to originate in Canada. If you are willing to assist us to determine who is behind this, please contact them toll-free at 888.495.8501, or use their link above. We ask that you save the letter and envelope, and anything else that arrived with it.

Thank you very much for your cooperation.

If anyone is receiving calls from 514-958-0000 or 514-958-0001 you should know that these calls are coming from a company selling the Dish Network. If you the phone and get a sales person, you can play along with them to find out on whose behalf they are calling. I finally figured out that my last 10 calls have been for Marrik Dish Co. Seeking to sell me Dish Network. The guy gave me the number to a gay sex line to get removed from their list. (no offense but that is really not my preference)

Their number is 866-WITHDISH. Let them know how you feel. You can even email them from their website at www.withdish.com.

You can also contact the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). These agencies seek to curb organized telemarketing crime in Canada through the joint operation of the PhoneBusters National Call Centre (PNCC) which is supported by members of the Deceptive Telemarketing Prevention Forum.

It collects consumer complaint information through its 1-888-495-8501 toll-free number.

I have just spoken to "Phone busters" - 1-888-495-8501 - they have informed me that not much can be done if the scam is being faxed over the internet - it's a problem since people don't have to use their real information - and they cannot be tracked down - this is from Canada - he has also indicated that from the states they may have different possibilities of doing things - try contacting a service through your police.

This is info, I acquired from another website about this annoying number:
My home phone received at least two of these calls. A child in the home answered one call, but no one would respond to her. The other call was ignored. My first instinct was to research the number online. Wow! Did I find a lot of problems with this number. However, I went further and found an agency to whom I could report it since it IS a number out of Canada. The following is the reply I received from the agency in Canada:

>>>>Thanks for contacting Phonebusters, if you should still wish to file a complainant, please call us @ 888-495-8501 with all the details.

So I proceed with the following..

To start resolving this issue, I recommend the following.
1. Ask for the supervisor once you have a real person from 8772895108 and give them a new asshole while asking for removal from their list.

I got a call from 407-444-8888 from a Mary Curtis of fantasy Tour and Travel. She said I'd won a trip for 2 to Cancun and started asking if I use Visa or Mastercard. I asked how I 'won' something I'd never entered a contest for, and were they affiliated with Ramada Plaza Resorts (known con artists out of Orlando Florida with 17 different State Attourney Generals after them). She put me through to her supervisor, Jacob Ortiz (of course for all I know, these are fake names). Jacob started out friendly enough, answering my questions in vague and roundabout ways. When I finally asked "Is this a scheme to sell time shares" he said no, 50 families get invited and 5 or so might buy timeshares but it's because they had such a great time.

But wait - he then said I'm being offered this fantastic trip at 80% off. 80% off? I thought you said I'd won a free facation, I pointed out. Well, he said, we only charge you $648. That barely covers the cost of cutting the grass.

Hrrmmm. You told me I won a free trip, now you say I'll have to pay you $648? I ask.

You're pretty smart for a Canadian, he retorted. Most Canadians have frozen brains up there. Save the money and buy your wife a new toque and hockey stick.

Then he hung up on me.

I pressed *57 to log the call with security services, and called the RCMP Phonebusters division at 888-495-8501. They're very familiar with these chaps.
