They " Claim" to be the NRA but they are not . Anyone can set up a number and recording answering with NRA on it . Some only give the history of the NRA some claim to want donations . If you call back the ones with the story now have your number to sell to other scammers . Those who ask for donations are stealing you credit card number . If you get these calls send the number to the NRA and let them take legal action .

I've had a bunch of these calls and looked at both NRA websites. I think Brad is on the right track. I suspect that a third party, perhaps an identity thief, is spoofing both NRA's numbers (calling from a different number and causing an NRA number to appear on the caller ID screen), using the NRA names as leverage to collect the information about us they need, and getting everyone mad at both NRAs in the process.

The NRA (National Rifle Association) makes a lot of calls but never spoofs their name or number. They may be pesky sometimes, but they are legitimate.

The National Recovery is probably a debt collector trying to trace someone. I highly suspect they have spoofed their number so the National Rifle Association gets blamed for their calls. I highly advocate paying your bills. Debt collectors are ruthless and scumbags. They buy debt for pennies on the dollar and violate every collection law on the books.

As advised elsewhere, I called 888-484-7594 back, the recorded message identified as National Rifle Association, I pressed 1, then 3, entered my 10-digit telephone number to be removed, confirmed with 1, and the recorded message said that whilst by law they had 30 days, they would try to remove my number from their list within a couple of days. We shall see....

Regarding the Recovery vs Rifle debate: Technology has been available for many years allowing callers to fake the number they're calling from. It is possible that if indeed the Recovery group is calling and wishes to hide their identity to lure a suspected deadbeat, they might use some other phone number. The Rifle group is also quite capable of mounting automated fundraising campaigns that will result in calling patterns that are almost identical. Clearly they have a bank of numbers to use for such purposes. I mention this only because some are so convinced of the callers identity merely by calling back the number that supposedly called. That is not a sure fire method of identifying an unknown caller in this day and age.

As others have noted, it is the National Rifle Association. I am a proud member but do not want these calls. I followed the advise of others, pressed "1" then "3" and my 10 digit number, and have been removed from their call list. When you press "1", it only mentions to press it if you want to hear more about the organization, and you must listen to a short 10 second pr message before you are told to press "3" to be removed from the list. But it seems to work.

This is National Recovery Associates disguising themselves as National Rifle Association. They called many times in the last several months looking for someone I never heard of. They called several weeks ago from this same number, but they said they were the National Rifle Association and wanted me to join and tried to get me to give them a credit card number or something that they could get the funds from! Yeah, right! When I asked if they could send me something showing who they really are with proof that they were the National Rifle Association because I don't give out any payment information over the phone to someone I'm not sure who they really are, they said they would; but never have. I continue to receive phone calls from this same number asking for the same person they've asked for, for months and months and months and I keep telling them that I don't know the person they are asking for. I even asked them to please stop calling, but they continue to. I hope they just stop calling eventually so I am not forced to change my number.

This is NOT the National Rifleman's Association!!!

This is a collection agency known as NATIONAL RECOVERY ASSOCIATES exploiting the NRA monogram.

They have been calling me like clockwork on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays for over two-months. Although, I have made them aware that I am NOT the person they are looking for (and have been reassured that this would be corrected) they still continue to call regardless even on Sundays (which is against the law and should demonstrate how unrelenting these people are).

Note: One of their representatives has specifically informed that their offices seeks out and post on websites such as these to fool the "hard to get dead beats"
