After a month's respite from these calls, they're back. My wife told them nicely a month ago, "No, not interested, please don't keep calling." Apparently, they don't understand "NICE".

FROM PREVIOUS POSTS BY RESIDENT47: AICR is a regular punching bag for Charity Navigator, and practically a for-profit enterprise, itself hiring out for-profit "commercial fundraising" giant InfoCision. See discussion under this number: 901-881-9984

The AHA (American Heart Ass) and the AICR are two of the most disperate organizations for $$. The telemarketers for these groups will call you incessantly. Asking the callers to stop is useless - you must contact the organization directly and tell those folks to remove your name and number from their contact and call lists. Otherwise you phone will continue to ring at all hours everyday.

AICR is practically a for-profit "charity", plus an annual client of the commercial fundraising pride of Akron and major arsepain InfoCision. See discussion under this number: 901-881-9984

It is a telemarketer for the AICR. Call AICR and request to be removed.

This is a scam disguised as a charity. They have the lowest rating possible for a charity (http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=3264). They want you to send mail to your neighbors asking them to donate. DON'T DO IT!

Caller ID has shown this number for one or two calls PER DAY most days for several MONTHS. If we answer, there is NO RESPONSE, and the calling phone hangs up after several seconds -- maybe as many as 5 or 10 seconds.

I finally called it back and found it was American Institute for Cancer Research, which spends 23% of their annual $39 million budget on fundraising. IF you take the time to listen to the automated response, and agree to listen to more, then do so again after listening to a description of the organization, you are FINALLY offered the option to be removed from their calling lists, upon which you have to enter your phone number. But why should you have to go to all that effort? THE CALLER SHOULD HAVE THE COURTESY TO STAY ONLINE FOR MORE THAN 2 RINGS!

Since this is a somewhat reputable charity, I suspect they might be getting screwed by at least one of their telemarketers. If the fundraisers are getting paid for "completed calls", they could simply be blanketing the country with automated calls, letting the minimum time run on answered calls before disconnecting, and collecting their "stipend" for accomplishing nothing. This could easily be more lucrative than having to rely upon a share of the called victim's largesse.
