Looking at comments, it appears to be a student loan asst collector. Since I not taken a student loan since 1981, and it was repaid YEARS ago, I do not know why they are calling. They don't leave a message. Today they have called 3 times (once an hour). I have blocked them, since they don't leave a message.

"FYI, I finally called back the number. Got a polite gentleman who apologized, asked for my number, no other information, and advised he has marked it as an incorrect number and I wouldn't be getting any more calls from them.

I hope that's the end of it!"

This is exactly what happened to me

I'm not stupid enough to have an outstanding student loan. They're looking for someone named Jonathan not Johnny; however they wont accept they have the wrong person. These type of individuals are despicable and if I keep getting hassled then the authorities will be contacted.

I get calls from this number, 3 to 5 times a day. I always let the machine answer it. They never leave a message. The past several days I have resorted to picking up the phone then hanging up immediately. To no avail. They just keep calling. From reading the comments, I gather it's a collection agency for student loans. My wife and I are old. No children. We've never had any student loans. We haven't been students in 40+ years.

They called me early this morning. Didn't leave a message. When I called back to ask what their problem is, they began questioning me. My response was, "if you call me again I will verbally jump your sh*t!"

Called several times but didn't answer. Left messages saying they were calling about a "personal matter" and to call them back. A previous message mentioned about my loans with Sallie Mae but I'm already working with the lender directly so I have no reason to talk to these people.

I have a common name, so I'm used to getting calls from collection agencies looking for someone with the same name. But they've called two days in a row at approximately 8:30 a.m. (which, unfortunately, is legal) and asked for someone with the same first name but a different (yet still common) last name. Are these people on a major fishing expedition or what? I told her she had the wrong person and to stop calling me early in the morning. If this keeps up, I'll file a complaint with the state AG.

Just got a call from Sallie Mae for this number.

Due to unemployment, my government student loan is over 120 days past due and right now I refuse to apply for a Forebearance. I asked the foreigner to identify his company and he finally did. I then stated that I would gladly talk to an American born citizen. He said something about I could call the main Sallie Mae customer service number and I replied that it repeatedly went to the Phillipines. While I was talking he hung up on me.

This is the seventh phone number that has been used in the last two weeks. I am collecting them in my cellphone and when they call I open the cellphone to hopefully document receiving the phone call on my detailed monthly phone bill. Below is how I have coded the phone numbers into my cellphone.
I do not mind talking to an American born citizen every two weeks, but I will not be talking to two different companies with three different departments everyday.

I can not remedy my curiousity. Does anyone skilled in
what they're or if they exist??

Well, you can spend a lot of time pranking and rick-rolling and tracking responses as Caine enjoys, or -- if you don't need a new hobby -- you can confront the collector directly as Federal law encourages. If you are receiving misdirected or abusive calls from a third party debt collector, you may find relief in the provisions of the FDCPA, which regulates collector behavior and provides you simple tools for your own defense. It grants you control of how you are contacted, and collectors can be sued for their crimes. Learn your rights and first response tactics at FTC-dot-gov.

They called 5 times today alone. I waited until someone answered the other end and told them they are getting charged with harassment if they call again. I guess they're like any other debt collector - they get paid to be annoying and don't really care if you're the person they're trying to reach or not. Makes me want to disconnect the phone. Had some collection agency calling every day for several weeks trying to reach someone by the name of Jennifer - never mind the fact that nobody with that name has ever lived here.

These idiots are back supposedly trying to collect on a student loan. They did this same routine about a year ago and stopped only after I instructed them to not call this number ever again. Here's the fun bits -- nobody here has ever taken out a student loan and the name they are asking for is not known by this household. What a bunch of nosebleeds.

OK my people-I have posted a couple of times how to exact revenge on annoying calling firms. So here it is again.
From the play book Phone Activism 101.
If Sallie Mae is using this USA Group as it's debt collector then all you need to do to have some fun back by giving Sallie Mae's Headquaters phone number and Chairman's name out (in this case Anthony P. Terracciano) on every blank form (on web or hard copy) that ask you for a name and phone number. But mostly you want to give this info to other companies that make calls that annoy you. For example there was carpet cleaning company that auto called here a lot. So when I got hold their real number and address I gave that to another collection company as the home address of the person they were looking for. I simply said she moved--here is her new info.
And so forth and so on. Feed other companies databases with the other companies data. Eventually these numbers you give them are stuck in their auto call banks and I eventually see them all just calling each other-- wasting their time and money. So if you see a blank card from some odd company offering odd services like "transcendental mediation" or "weight lose programs" at the supermarket or at your fav coffee shop for example--fill out the cards or even online and just give them---

I once took this idea further and looked up staff members names of an annoying calling company and used their names and company to solicit services from other annoying calling company. Since we all have computers it is easy to keep a list of names and numbers to hand out to the next offending service. Or just keep a log by your phone of phone numbers to hand out. I do. and I give them all bogus info and numbers to other companies. There is this one company that calls and the machine offers to lower your credit card rates..press 2. So i press two and get a fool on the phone. They always ask for a phone number because they can not see the number the machine dialed. So I give them something from my bogus list.
Yes you may not see the immediate results but patience grasshoppers.

Below is a history excerpt from wikipedia. Which may explain Sallie Mae desperate attempt to collect money.

A 60 Minutes segment (originally aired May 7, 2006) examined Sallie Mae, including its business practices.[4] A professor of law at Harvard Law School, Elizabeth Warren, who is also an expert on bankruptcy and an outspoken critic of consumer lenders, questioned Sallie Mae's dual role as both lender and collector.[16]
In February 2007, New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo launched an investigation into alleged deceptive lending practices by student loan providers, including The College Board, EduCap, Nelnet, Citibank, and Sallie Mae.[5] On April 11, 2007, Cuomo ended his investigation of Sallie Mae and announced that Sallie Mae had voluntarily agreed to change its lending standards to satisfy a new code of conduct for student loan practices established by Cuomo, and to donate $2 million (USD) to a fund devoted to educating college-bound students about their loan options.[17]On October 10, 2007, documents surfaced showing that Sallie Mae was attempting to use the Freedom of Information Act to force colleges to turn over students' personal information.[18] The university involved, the State University of New York system, is expected to decline the request and be forced to defend its position in court.
In December 2007, a class action lawsuit was brought against Sallie Mae, alleging that the company discriminates against African American and Hispanic private student loan applicants by charging them high interest rates and fees. The lawsuit also alleges that Sallie Mae fails to properly disclose private student loan terms to unsuspecting students. The lawsuit is pending in a Connecticut Federal Court.[19] New York Attorney General, Andrew Cuomo, raised similar concerns about possible student loan redlining in June 200

An additional Note. BEcause they are not solicitors they can ignore the do not call registry and in fact don't even look at it because they are not required to. One of the benefits of trying to prevent you from defaulting on Your Federal student loans. The numbers they get are given to them by various skip tracing agencies who's information is not always accurate

Student Assistance is a subsidary of sallie mae. if you call sallie mae and ask about your loans and they say everything is fine ask about your federal loans. Sallie mae has a bad habit of only addressing the loans taht are not guaranteed by the federal government, the loans that they don't get paid for if you default. If your getting calls from Sac they are just trying to help with your Federal loans. and they call about sallie mae, chase, Wells, fargo, citibank, etc.. They Represent United Student aid funds A GUARANTOR look it up. They REpresent the people who have to pay off your loans if you default. The people who will file with Your lovely federal goverment. IF you default on Federal loans The FEds can garnish your wages, take your tax check and suspend any professional licences you earned in school.

I wish someone from sac had called me before my loans defaulted. IF you think its a scam. give them the last four of your soc. They can't do anythign with it but veryify your information from sallie mae or any of the other lenders. Ask them what your options are if you can't make payments. they will happily try and find a non payment option like a forbearance or a deferment. Those of you who keep getting robo calls. Answer it Tell them who you are and you don't know the person they will mark the number as bad. But they are required to try those numbers again later on.

So it's VENESSA over here. On other sites it ANDREA. Guess you are pushing the stupid limit.
These people are lazy, ignorant and close to being stupid. The computer is never wrong! Right? Ever hear of GIGO (Garbage In Garbage Out). Treat them as debt collector and file complaints with BBB, FTC, FCC and your attorney general's office if you've never had a student loan or it's paid off.
I've been retired for over 5 years. Neither I nor any member of my family has EVER had a student loan. These people don't even have the guts to put their name on CID. Wonder what they are hiding from?

In the comments, "Vanessa" gives a speech about how proper this 'company' is. IT IS A SCAM. I have never had any loans other than one car and one house, both paid off over 20 years ago. My identity has not been stolen, I have checked. No loans have been reported in my name, I have checked. "Vanessa" has the identical post in every 800 number lookup service on the web. The message by "Vanessa" is from the people making the calls. DO NOT BELIEVE IT. THEY WANT YOUR IDENTITY.

Sallie Mae is greedy. They are asking too much. They know the economy is hurting. I had already spoken to Sallie Mae personally. I told them I am working part time, which is less than 20 hours per week. They will call and asking to make a payment of over $500 every month! Come on. I don't get that much in a pay check after taxes. I think they are gone too far. I think this a scam. It's a computer automated, saying that they can help and just provide more information. I am not going to give my information. Sallie Mae already has all more information and that is it!!!!!

Do NOT give information to this number. I may be wrong, but they called me several times, and when I called back they wanted my address, trying to verify some address I lived at ten years ago. I just talked to Sallie Mae last month and my loans are NOT in bad standing, and I know that they have my accurate information. This is a company I deal with regularly in an attempt to pay off my loans early. When I asked him to tell me what loan this was about, he got nasty with me saying he couldn't tell me until he knew he had the right person. Sallie Mae has never gotten unprofessional with me before. This guy couldn't even annunciate properly. It was outrageous. I told him there was way too much identify theft out there and I, for one, wasn't giving ANY information. They I got off the phone, called Sallie Mae, and sure enough, they verified that my account is perfectly fine and they do have my current information.

I think that this is a scam to steal information from people. Be very careful who you divulge information to. If you are in doubt, hang up and call Sallie Mae - 1-800-2SALLIE yourself. Never give anything to these fools.
