The ACLJ is a great organization that's doing really good work, but their phone calls ARE annoying. Ask them to take you off their call list to end it.

1) I put this number on blacklist. 2) the ACLJ is a legal think tank, alledgedly founded by Pat Robinson of 700 Club & others...

I can tell ya--there is no way in hell with all the crazy assed stuff now coming out from the far religious right---its one thing that groups like the ACLJ want to limit abortion but now their gig is up and they now want to not only do away with abortion--they want to do away with people's right to use contraceptives beyond the use of rubbers---they sure hate women---pretty damn stupid---they are even gonna run pretty conservative women into the figurative arms of Barack Obama!!! They are not just shooting themselves in the foot with a little pea shooter--they are blowing themselves up with small A-bombs!!!! Even though I don't really support the American Civil Liberty Union--I would like to answer the phone when the ACLJ calls and tell them I am a lifetime member of the ACLU!!! LOL

American Center for Law and Justice
Founded by Pat Robertson, the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) and its Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow quickly established themselves as key players in the right-wing movement, litigating a variety of cases at all levels, including the Supreme Court. The ACLJ has been particularly active in fighting marriage equality and defending the Pledge of Allegiance, while Sekulow has maintained very close ties to the Bush White House and played a central role in pushing for the confirmation of Supreme Court Justices Roberts and Alito.

Here's information from the FTC regarding this: apparently, since this is a charity/political organization, they don't have to abide by the DNC Registry.
However, any third-party contracted by them does:

Are calls from political organizations or calls soliciting for charities covered?
Political solicitations are not covered by the TSR at all, since they are not included in its definition of “telemarketing.” Charities are not covered by the requirements of the national registry. However, if a third-party telemarketer is calling on behalf of a charity, a consumer may ask not to receive any more calls from, or on behalf of, that specific charity. If a third-party telemarketer calls again on behalf of that charity, the telemarketer may be subject to a fine of up to $16,000 .

So, I will continue to call these people in an attempt to get a human being, to remove me from their list.
Especially since they called me on a holiday, when I actually had a chance to relax and sleep in, and they woke me up!

OK, one more update.
I called back this number, got a recording about what they do, and at the end, there was an option to tell them you don't want to receive these calls anymore. So I chose that, and they asked for the number you want removed from their database.
I entered my number, and they 'confirmed' it as completely garbled junk.
I pressed '2', indicating that it was incorrect, and entered the number again, and it was repeated back as completely garbled junk again (but different than the first time!)
So, I am reporting to the FCC. They may be legitimately trying to protect constitutional freedom, but they apparently don't give a rat's tail about my personal rights and privacy.

Called the number 1-800-296-4529 to get removed from their call list, this went to a recorded message, with only an option to leave a message.
Guess I will just report them to the FCC, as my number is already on the do not call list, for several years now.

What good does it do to have all you phone numbers (both land and cell) on the National "DO NOT CALL" list when you continually receive all these soliciting phone calls from everyone ???????????

I listed my numbers on that list NOT to receive these annoying, time consuming calls,... NOT to receive them !!

If the ACLJ is contracting these people, then the ACLJ is responsible for the calls and can be sued. It does no good to ask them to take my name off their lists: We've asked several times to no avail.

If it is ACLJ these people have called me repeatedly for four years. We filed a lawsuit for harrassment and elderly abuse against them and the calls stopped for awhile. They started again about three months ago -- as many as four calls a day. Last night they called us at 3 am. When asked when they called that time of night, a rude woman remarked, "Well we can't reach you in the daytime, so we decided to call you when we knew you were at home." I used language that I didn't know was in me and hung up. They've called five times today using different numbers. It's time to file another lawsuit again them for harrassment.

Curteous & polite; callers help support Jay Sekulow, a hard-working attorney whose life seems to be devoted to being a watchdog for conservative viewpoints and to work tirelessly in Washington. He just can't live on free air & must solicit funds from those of us who aren't there but appreciate his energy & focus. Wish there were more young fellows like him. And no, I don't like to get those phone calls requesting money, but if I don't have money this month, I don't pick up the phone. I can't really blame them for asking. I don't think Congress will fund anything conservative this year or next.

ACLJ called me only once. In that call, a representive first requested that I take time to listen to a taped message. After I listened to taped message, a different representative asked for my address for them to mail a request for a donation to the cause. I said NO, THANK YOU. That representative then said "Thank you for your time" and hung up.

WAKE UP PEOPLE, WE LIVE IN A WORLD OF ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS. LEARN TO SAY "NO" WITHOUT HESITATION. IF THAT DOES NOT HELP, DISCONNECT YOUR LAND LINE AND GO CELLULAR. Important: Once you donate, expect to get calls from the organization again and again in the future.

The ACLJ contracts with an outside company who makes the calls and complaints that are submitted to that company, never reach the ACLJ, which is why attempts to remove names fail. If you want your name removed you have to call the ACLJ directly. They are a good organization but lack the manpower to make the calls themselves, which is why they contract.

I agree with Darrell's comments. They call every day - last night (a Sunday) they called @ 8:45pm! While their mission may be a good one, persistent telemarketing is not going to gain them any sympathy for their causes. Fortunately I have caller I.D. and so don't answer but that has not deterred their attempts. They are doing more damage to themselves than good.

I am quite tired of their persistant calls. I have asked repeatedly to be removed from their database, I wish they would honor my wishes and leave me alone! If their fight for justice is built on the donations of the "little people" , I would suggest that they move to a level more comparable to their needs!

You can call them at 1-800-296-4529 and request that your name be removed from their data base.

The rep on the phone told me they call 7 numbers at once, connect the first one and drop the remainder. Tell her this is abusive and damaging to their reputation. Since they knew exactly how to route my call, they must be getting many complaints. If everyone calls, maybe they'll stop this harassing tactic.
