In 1999, Alliance One Receivables Management Inc. was created by mergers and acquisitions of five different companies. Under Teleperformance, Alliance One has facilities from South America to India, from the U.S. to the Philippines and even the Caribbean. Teleperformance boasts over 275 call centers and is positioned in 45 countries. Alliance One has also is in a wide variety of sectors, such as health care, retail, telecommunications, utilities, financial services, and even the government. Their client roster includes over 500 government entities and courts

Most collection agencies operate on a contingency basis, which means that they do not get paid by their client unless and until they collect from the consumer. If and when the agency receives monies from a consumer, the agency then gives their client a pre-determined percentage of the monies recovered. The remainder belongs to the agency.

Oftentimes, debt collection agencies buy these debts for just pennies on the dollar. The debt collector is free to seek as much money from the consumer as they can regardless of what they paid to buy the debt. This amounts to large profit margins for them.

Typically, employees of debt collection agencies are motivated with performance-based bonuses determined by the amount of money they are able to collect from a consumer.

Regardless of what specific methods a debt collection agency uses in their attempts to collect a debt, it is clear that the agency is in the business of making money first and foremost. And that money comes from you – the consumer. Hopefully, you now have a better understanding as to why collection agencies use such aggressive behavior in their interaction with consumers.

Consumers around the globe have long complained about the unfair and often unethical tactics used by debt collection agencies and thus, the FDCPA - a federal law meant for the protection of consumers. It encompasses a set of rules governing the activities of collection agencies.

I received twice daily calls from Alliance One collection agency. Give them no information. Ask THEM for information. All they had was my name and number correct, they ask for your social or address you DO NOT have to give them any of it. I was told the amount someone with my name supposedly charged on a Capitol One credit card on what date. Thanked them and then called capitol one's c/s number 1-800-258-9319 they did verify I never had an account and they had the wrong guy. They can't make them stop calling you however. An automated voice from 8663850277 left a message for a person that doesn't live here, but without my first name. I feel that it is some kind of scam. The message said that it was a collections agency, but if I'm not the person, then to call the 866 #. Why would I waste my time calling a 866 number? I don't want to be on hold for ever and deal with someone I don't do business with. That is why I think it is a scam.

I've had 3 messages left on my answering machine by these lowlife scumwads. A women with a thick accent says, "This is for..."then an automated voice says my name..garbled words to the effect of "needs to call 866-385-0277." No name of who called, no reason for the call, no clue as to who the company is. I will not call them back. If there is anything wrong with my credit I should get some sort of notice, in writing, through the mail, not through these leeches.

Call BBB and your state AG if the calls continue. Also send your Senator and Congressperson a note about what is happening. These worms need to be stopped.

Alliance one is a collection agency; they have called my house looking for someone I did not know (at least everyday in the Jan to May. I have aske them to stop calling so today I used file language and called them back about 100 times 1-866-385-0277 and they set me up with 509-931-1501. Everyone in every country call 1-866-385-0277.

Probably one of the most inept collection agencies I've seen. It is AllianceOne Inc. They keep calling leaving messages for someone that doesn't live here. I've tried calling the number 866-385-0277 but either the phone just keeps on ringing or i get "all circuits are busy". When a message was left, it sounded like someone from India. I believe they outsource their staff from India so they get some cheap labor. Finally, I was able to pick up a call one time, and was told to please hold. I waited about 5 minutes, then just hung up. I mean, what are they trying to pull here?

Ever wonder where drug addicts, prison parolees, and newly released mental patients go? They become debt collectors! Oh.....that's why they're BRAIN DEAD DIRTBAGS!

Their information is INCORRECT, yet they continue to call and harass even though I have asked them to STOP.
This is a clear violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

I get calls from this number DAILY asking for someone named Gene. I've had my phone number for 7 years... and my name is NOT Gene. When they HAVE answered (usually they hang up on second ring), I've told them this and told them to put my number on their DO NOT CALL LIST, but they STILL CALL either from 866-385-0277 or 866-855-0727.
