If you don't have any credit to begin with you won't get a best one. You'll get the bttoom of the barrel one that will most likely charge outrageous interest rates. For a first time credit card, get one at a department store and build your credit this way. Get it built up pretty well until you have a few department store cards and keep a good payment schedule. Give it about 6 months to a year to build up good credit with these cards and then keep paying them off, then charging small amounts and then paying them off again. Do that, don't try getting a major credit card without any credit, you will hate the company or bank you signed on with and yourself for going for it anyways.I did just that and pretty much screwed up my credit, now it's much better.
Was researching long distance charges. Too bad that 800#s aren't free any longer but it was worth it. Updated on a similar site but will share my research here. No calls since I called them and told them they had the wrong number. They were trying to contact my neighbor and I guess we are the only ones in our complex that has a land line. In the phone book we are listed but with no unit #. Once the agent removed us not only did the calls stop but all the other strange calls stopped too. Years ago when our debts exceeded our income a collector called our neighbor because they couldn't contact us. We didn't get angry because the neighbor was a senior citizen and I guess didn't know any better. Now that we are senior citizens we are not confronting our neighbor about this. Just glad I called and got Chase to stop calling. The other strange calls stopped too. Phone has been really quiet since mid April
They call several times a day and don,t say nothing,I think the computer dials it and it,s gets realy bad.The first call starts at 8 am every morning.
These people call me 20 times a week at all hours of the day and night up till 9 pm approx. I have had to turn off my phone to have silence once in a while.

I've had calls from this number both on my cell phone and my home phone. I do have a Chase card but they never leave a message and when I called them, they want my card number. I refused to do that. I think it may be a scam, so I'll call Chase.
They are NOT CHASE! I called them back, they wouldn't let me speak to a supervisor or prove they were Chase, I told them they were a scam and they did nothing to deny it.
My father works at Chase, and he confirmed that this is very common and Chase would never ask for info they should ALREADY HAVE.
DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION!!!!!!!!
By last September 25,2010, I had received 28 calls (See prior report) The last total was up to 92 calls.
I have since changed the cellphone number. I have not given the prior number (or the current number) to anyone , so it is of no consequence to me. I have received no further calls and pity the next owner of that number.

Do not give away your info. I've been getting these calls for 3 weeks now. I just made my way to a near by Chase location. The manager looked up the number and told me that this is a fraud. He called a few internal departments and they started an investigation. I hope this will put an end to it.
A few interesting facts:
If you call back, you will be prompted with a professionally sounding message asking to enter your card number (DON'T). If you keep banging on 0's and #'s you will get to a live person speaking with an accent. They don't state who they are, the first thing they ask is your card number. Try talking to them, but they don't say anything else, just keep stupidly asking for the card number saying they can't help you unless you give it to them.
If you call this number with + (plus) prefix, once in a while you'll be prompted with a message in an Asian language.
10 calls today from this number. I just made a silent ringtone and assigned it to this caller ID.
This IS NOT CHASE I returned the 90+ calls with a plan intact to get to the bottom when I first called I asked only to speak to a supervisor they refused unless i gave them my number from my chase card ha ha good luck with that--then I asked the operator for her chase service ID number she was a little fuddled and refused saying she has nothing like that again I asked for supervisor they refused----I called again this time entering a chase number from an account that is an old business account and was closed after 3 tries I got an operator and once again I asked for a chase supervisor---This time I was able to get what they tell me was a superior and I asked them for their chase ID number and they refused saying they do not have to give it out erggg wrong answer care to try double jeopardy where the points really add up LOL Today I called and when I was connected I immediatly said I was Chase supervisor Harold Jones in internet fraud out of NY and my ID number was blah blah blah etc etc etc and for them to ID themselves and respond with the correct chase ID number assigned to them the next sound I heard was a resounding click so the bottom line is do all the banking at the branch or on an online secured incripted chase site these scammers are getting just tooo slick

Good story and documentation, Chrysa. I think you've discovered along with others in this thread that when someone calls out of nowhere about money, you cannot assume the caller is acting in good faith or as a genuine rep of whatever entity you give your business.
Authentication I think will be the next big thing in telecomm of all kinds. Making fraudulent CID spoofing a felony could go a long way toward restoring honesty and security to our verbal business dealings.

I actually picked up the phone for the call on 9/9. They asked for a Daniel Mitchell. I told the caller (foreign) that there was no one here by that name. He apologized and said he would remove me from their list. I then received 7 calls from the same # the following day, so I called them back at 10:42pm. An automated system identified the company as Chase Bank, then transferred me to an agent. I gave the rep one of my Chase account numbers, verified my identity, and again explained that there is no Daniel Mitchell associated with my accounts. I then gave her my home # which they had been calling me on, and she apologized, they had that number associated with a Mr. Mitchell. She again assured me that my number would be taken off the list. After I hung up, I had an uneasy feeling about the call. I called the number on the back of my Chase card, and upon speaking to the Fraud Department, was told there was no record of them calling me, or my call to them over the past week. The Chase rep explained that whenever Chase calls a customer from any department or location, notes would be in the account. He advised me that I may have been a victim of phishing and assisted me with reporting the compromised card number as "stolen".
To date, September 5, 2010, I received 28 calls on my NEW cellphone.
This cell phone I had purchased from 'Consumer Cellar' about 5-6 weeks ago.
It is for EMERGENCY USE IN MY CAR, and I have NOT given this number out for anyone to call.
I did call back ONCE from this cellphone and a man asked me for my account number, I asked "What Account' and he said 'From Chase' I told him I didn't have an account with Chase and asked to be removed from any list. He said he would. That was after Call #5. I am now up to call #28 and apparently will receive more.
I do not think this is Chase, but note that I do have Chase credit and checking accounts, in good standing. Also, this may be applicable, I have been followed, monitored, and harassed 24x7 for years. Recently I discovered the term 'gang stalking', and now I realize that's what's happening to me. Be sure to google that term 'gang stalking'.

I called this number back, it answers to Chase Card Services, with the same attendant as the main Chase customer service number. It's Chase bank. It is automated, so they ask you to enter you account number.
My husband was getting several calls per day from this number & no one was there when he answered. I called the number & was connected with Chase Bank. I spoke with a representative who said they were looking for XX (name omitted) who put this number down as his employer. The individual hadn't worked for us in years- the representative said they would discontinue the calls to our number.
Don't think it is Chase, even though I do owe them money. The area code in the phone book shows Greater Chicago area. Have never answered it as I have a long line of telemarketers constantly calling. Great idea, opening up the phone numbers to the morons.
These people call in the morning, they call in the middle of the day, they call at night, always asking for someone who does not live here. Sometimes it says Chase USA, sometimes it says Unknown Caller, sometimes it just says Unavailable. When I had Verizon, I could block the number, but I now have AT&T and can only block it if it doesn't show either the name or the number, which these calls do. Help!

They say they are Chase Bank, but I've received over 200 calls from 7/13 to present from 847-488-3003
and now we are starting with this new number. 847-488-3313. They never leave a message and if you do answer, there is a pause before someone gets on the phone. I've had calls from (the actual) Chase Bank mixed in, and they DO leave a message. I am working with the REAL Chase Bank to get my account current, but not these fools. They call 6-8 times a day. I guess I am going to have to change my number. Geez....

I believe it's a I received numerous calls from this number today but I did not pick up since I was suspicious about it. I mean, Chase USA? The phone number also is a red flag, area code 847? That's not a toll-free number but seems local, from within Illinois. I finally answered one of the calls, and a guy with an Indian accent asked for a Ms ----(my last name). I did not bother to find out if it was me or somebody else. I just told him right off the bat that I know it's a scam and for them not to call me again. I called Chase customer service and spoke with of course, somebody from abroad (Philippines, I'm sure). The lady told me the phone number is not on their official list of numbers for Chase. I bank at Chase but I dont have overdue bills and my way below my credit limit! Just dont give out any info to these people if you do have accounts with Chase. Call Chase yourself.

They are harrasing me to no end calling every ten minutes are so. When I finally do answer I tell them look I am paying my credit card...it may not be what you want but atleast I am paying. They still continue to call and I continue to ignore their call. I have no other problems with anyone else but Chase....Once I am done paying them off they can kiss my ---! I will no longer deal with that company and I will advise others to do the same!!!

I too am getting calls from this number. I did ask them several months ago to stop calling that they had the wrong person. They complied but as of yesterday they began again. I kept getting these calls for 3 weeks - several times per day - most calls are hang ups but could tell it was a machine assisted call. One day, the machine said "wait for an important call" - I waited 1 minute and still a hang up. Today, I googled the number and found this very helpful website - thank you to everyone for suggestions on how to handle. I called the number that was on my caller I.D. and talked with Ann from the Phillipines - it is Chase Bank and after telling them my number and informing them I was going to have my lawyer call them and file a police report (because we do not have an account with Chase) I was asked if I knew a certain person (name withheld). The name is that of my nephew but I said I didn't know this person and demanded they take my name off of their list. Ann said she would put this on file and remove me from the call list. I then called my 21 year old nephew and chewed him a you know what and told him not to put our name/number on anything else and PAY his bills! I hope the problem will be solved. This is not a scam but if you are receiving calls, if could be someone you know - relation or friend - who Chase has found you have a affiliation with. Point is, this is harassment and needs to be stopped - I'm no wallflower and was very forceful in my dealings with Ann - I suggest doing the same.

Fraud/Scam caller identifying themselves as "Chase Card Services" I called the ACTUAL customer service number (an 800 number) and was told that it was not a verified Chase number. DO NOT give them your account information!!! When I asked to speak to a supervisor they 'transferred' me and then disconnnected the call. Another time a woman was asking for my Password! Report them to the FTC like I did.

Your synopsis describes the EXACT reason I'm receiving calls on my cell phone from this company And I DO believe it's Chase.
However, it's been TWO YEARS since I first explained I'm NOT JEFF, I just happened to get his old number. And instead of taking my number off they've (by way of Google I'm sure) added my published home phone number to the barrage of calls they make. I think they're convinced I not only know JEFF (oh how I wish that were true!) but that he lives here! I'm obviously NOT JEFF, I'm a WOMAN!

This company calls a minimum of 6 times a day, starting at 8:00am on weekdays, 10:00am on weekends (I can set my clock on it).
Over a year ago I turned my answering machine off, and have kept my home phone on "Do Not Disturb" hoping my number would eventually drop from their auto dailer. As of today... IT HASN'T. They're still calling. Using several different numbers and recently (-) has started showing up.
Maybe if we all scheduled a MASS CALL BACK. Pick one day and for those of us who can do nothing but call them ALL DAY LONG!! And we should bombard their P.O. Box With a MASS MAILING.

Have been haunted relentlessly by this number (and several others) identifying themselves as CHASE. Have received more than 28 calls in a single day, including 6 calls back to back within a ten minute period. Most leave no message, a few leave a woman's recorded voice to call back on a toll-free number (sorry, but I didn't write it down and will do so next time). Thanks for all your posts and comments. Will post when I learn more and let you know if & how I can stop them from calling.
I got 25 calls in 2 days, they never leave a message, so I answered the phone a couple of times...no one is on the other end. whats up with that?
If this number calls you constantly you can file a complaint for harassment with the FTC. It is illegal under
the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act for them to harass you. You can also mail them a letter demanding they not call you anymore, send it with a return receipt. Once they receive this it's illegal for them to contact you by phone.

This IS NOT JP Morgan Chase and if you stay on long enough you will get someone and they ask for a person in your household. It is a known scam. I stopped them by telling them that the person no longer lived here and gave them their new number :), that of the local non-emergancy police department.

on my cell phone starting at 8 am this morning. These have continued all day with a few "unknown" calls in between. I called the first number back and it was an international call so I terminated the call. Finally I got two unknown numbers about an hour ago and these people said they were Chase and asked for my father-in-law but I told them I don't know anyone by that name. I asked them to remove my number. They said I needed to verify my phone number with them in order to do that. I argued with this guy who had a thick accent and finally I hung up on him. Not even 10 minutes later another unknown call and I answered again and let this guy have it. I told him I had already filed a complaint with FCC and Do Not Call Registry (which I had). He asked me to verify the number I was calling from in order to remove me. I told him I would not and asked for his call back number. After more arguing he gave me 1-866-335-9398

Finally I called Chase. They ran my number through their system and said my cell was attached to two different accounts. I don't have an account with Chase but my brother does and I take care of his bills while he is at sea (he is in the Navy) and then she couldn't tell me the other account I was attached to. I finally told her if I guess the name, can you verify whether I am right or wrong. She said she could. My father-in-law banks at Chase and my number was attached to his account also. That is who they were asking for. My father-in-law doesn't even know my cell number and he wouldn't use me as an alternate number or contact, he would use my husband. So I don't know how I got roped into getting calls for him but this is insane. These people don't stop and it has to be a scam. I am going to set my phone with a dummy entry for these yahoos and put it on a silent ring so at least I don't have to hear the calls. This had to stop though. It is almost like account information was hacked and they are just randomly calling people. Its scary. Keep an eye on your credit reports for sure. I have read online that fraudulent accounts have been opened for people receiving these calls.

THIS IS A SCAM. Anyone saying anything different is lying. I just spoke to Chase ( in a call center in India) and they said ALL collection calls will come from the US. Chase said they DO NOT contract out there collections to other countries. Country code 84 is Vietnam not India. DO NOT GIVE YOUR INFO OUT. It is Chase, but it is for collections and they do have outsourcing overseas. I have received 54 calls this week, with 25 of them in ONE DAY! Problem is, they are calling for whoever had this number before me, or someone who gave them a phony number before welshing out on their credit card bill. They promise to remove it from their system, an hour later they are calling me again. They ask whether this was ever the other person's number (if I was that psychic I would have won Lotto) or whether I know where to locate this person. I have no idea who she is.

, and a couple of toll numbers. They don't let up even after promising to remove the wrong number from the deadbeat's file. If you owe them money, you are hearing from them. If you have the misfortune of the new number of a deadbeat, you are hearing from them too.
Your current phone number (cell or home phone) belonged to someone else before you. That person registered their number (now yours) with Chase bank (their credit card division) when applying for CC. That is why your long lost Indian brother is calling you 60 times/day. He now works for Chase bank call center in Panjupapad, India. You need to accept the call and tell him that you are not the person he is trying to reach (or his brotha).
Simple as a 1,2,3... ...4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20,21,22,23,24,25,26,27,28,29,30... More then likely, he will call you once or twice more and then (after you tell him that his momma is a whore) he will stop.

I've received two telephone calls in the past week from Chase regarding a credit card with them that is "overdue". I've never had a Chase credit card.
The name they give for the account is close to mine, the address they give is different. I've refused to give them my correct name, social security number and address...all of which they asked for. The only way they could have gotten this telephone number is to look under a cross directory since, unfortunately, our number is listed.
I've told them they have the wrong person during both phone calls and have requested that they stop calling. During the second phone call I was transferred to the "fraud" department. She asked that I send them a letter stating that I was not the person on the account and give them supporting documentation. I refused.
If this is not a "scam operation" then Chase needs to get it's act together and concentrate their efforts on background checks BEFORE they issue a credit card...not after.
Like Chase called 6 times on 8/22/2009 and I've asked them to put my number on the "Do Not Call List" and to please use mail correspondence only. Chase called 7 times on 8/21/2009, and they are still calling today 8/23/2009. Don't they get the messege? Today I reported them to the "Do Not Call Registry". The United States Postal Service needs their business anyway.
Now they've started leaving half messages. A computer leaves only the last part of the phone number, not even enough to call them back

Calls from "Card Services" try to pass themselves off as working with the FDIC and major credit card companies to lower the rates on your credit cards to 6.9%. They never identify if they are working with a specific bank. They proceed to ask which accounts you have a balance with a rate of 10% or more, and try to get your individual account information (including account numbers and social security). NEVER provide them with any of this information!
I am receiving calls from this number daily. On average these calls occur eight times a day and are hang-up calls. On one occasion a live person called from this number and identified themselves as being from Chase Bank asking for payment and then hung up. WHAT YOU CAN DO:
1. If you have Caller ID or the person calling is identified as being with "Chase Bank," contact Chase Bank (in person or by phone) to report the number and problem. 1-877-CHASEPC (1-877-242-7372
2. Contact your local phone company and report the problem. Ask the company to block this number and to set up a track or trace on your phone line.
3. Contact your local law enforcement agency and ask to file a report. It is against the law in California and other states to make harrassing calls.(California Penal Code section 653m, Penal Code section 422-422.1)
4. Register your home and personal phone number(s) with the National Do Not Call Registry operated by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Online registration is available at the FTC's web site, www.donotcall.gov
5. Contact your State Attorney General's Consumer Protection department.
6. File a report with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm.
*Note: My local phone company stated that this number has effectively found a way around having their calls blocked, which makes it even more important for each one of us to pursue this by reporting it to the appropriate authorities mentioned above in order to put a stop to this.

This number called my phone 8-10 times a day 10 minutes apartfor the last 3 weeks , no message left. I do not answer unidentified number. No ID no answer sick and tired of telemarketing.
This number +847-488-3313 Has called me 22 times in 2 days. IT is beyond annoying on so many levels. I contacted chase and they have no idea. I cannot reach the number back because it states that I am trying to call and international number.... Help.
I have had 17 calls from this number. They never leave a message. I do not answer calls when I don't recognize the number.
I just started receiving these calls. I have no credit cards that are through Chase or that are overdue. There are no messages left. I will not pick up calls from unrecognized numbers. I always get a call but they dont leave a message they call my cell and work number.
This number keeps calling several times a day. Many say it is Chase bank but I don't have an account with Chase so there would be no reason for them to be calling me.
One time I answered and when they asked for a specific person, I said that "She isn't here now. Can I take a message?"
The Indian sounding voice said they were taking a survey but would say no more.

They called my cellphone...How the heck did they get that!!! Its under my husbands name and he is not even on my Chase card. These people are *&*^&^ and they don't leave a message. They don't have any balls. They would rather tick you off with constant calls and hangups.

I keep getting a call from this 847-488-3313 number.... They call 7 days a week... Im getting tired of telling them they have the wrong number but they still keep calling and if they keep it up I will get them for harassment....
I have gotten several calls a day for the last few months from this number. I don't pick up because I don't recognize the number. I finally picked up out of curiosity - no one spoke.

I tried returning the 800 number left on my answering machine (repeat caller said that it was "important"), but what sounded like a fax machine answered my call. I hung up. No further calls.
Its chase bank, NOT a collection agency. theye didn't buy your account or anything it is still chase bank, just you idiots don't pay your bills, thats it. answer the phone and find out why they are calling if its the wrong number tell them not a big deal, its not a scam, you are the scam pay your bills, maybe you shouldnt have maxed out your credit card.

This is the 5th phone number that Chase has used to call us. I don't have any credit cards and they will not remove me from there lists. I have been getting several phone calls from several different credit card companies, from different numbers, and none of them remove me from their lists. They just use a different phone number. I don't have credit cards and never have.
I don't have a Chase card, don't owe money, but for those of you who think "talking to a real person" would help, it won't. I've told them 100 times the person doesn't live here but they don't stop.

I've already left information on these two comment threads. These people are calling up to twenty times a day and they are posing as Chase to steal money and your personal information. DO NOT give them anything. Hang up and call the FDC @ 1-877-382-4357
(FDC-HELP). Report this to the FDC and to Chase.
I've spoken with Chase through the number on my statement and they do not have any such number. All of their company numbers are toll free. This is a scam originating in the Elgin, Illinois, area.

This number belongs to Chase Credit Card Services. It's done by an automatic dialer when the account is past due. The problem is that it does not leave messages and, of course, there is no one on the other side to talk back when one answers. Chase seems to be doing this to try to get their customer to call them back. To add insult to injury, my late payment was their fault for not issuing the electronic billing that triggers the automatic payment from my bank.

I've had well over 150 calls from Chase USA ( USA? Which someone has identified as an Indian call center) and JP Morgan Chase while on vacation for a month. Sometimes a message was on my machine telling me the message was important. Indian Accent. One Sunday there were 9 calls. I do not have a Chase card, nor do I bank there.
The call is from Chase credit card company collections. In Indiana
They have called for a person not at this phone number. I continued to tell them they have the wrong number but have called me 30 to 40 time. They are harrassing the wrong person and won't stop.

YES THIS # DOES HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH CHASE. ITS A COLLECTION AGENCY BASED IN ILL. THEY BUY OVER DUE ACCTS FROM CAHSE BANK THEN TRY TO COLLECT. THEIR BASE IS IN ILL. BUT THEY CONTRACT ALL THEIR OPERATORS FROM OVERSEAS(INDIA).
IF THESE PEOPLE ARE CALLING YOU MORE THAN 3 MONTHS OVER DUE ON YOUR CHASE CARD ( OR ITS A MIX UP). I JUST SPENT 2 DAYS TALKING TO THESE PEOPLE HAVING TO TAKE CARE OF A PREVIOUS DEBT FROM MY EX WIFE. THEY ARE VERY HATEFULL AND HARD TO UNDERSTAND.

. this is the new york office. ask for a supervisor in the credit cards dept. they will stop the calls. i went thru this for quite awhile before i found out what to do.
