From Wikipedia:
Caller ID spoofing is the practice of causing the telephone network to display a number on the recipient's caller ID display which is not that of the actual originating station; the term is commonly used to describe situations in which the motivation is considered nefarious by the speaker. Just as e-mail spoofing can make it appear that a message came from any e-mail address the sender chooses, caller ID spoofing can make a call appear to have come from any phone number the caller wishes. Because of the high trust people have tended to have in the caller id system, spoofing can call the system's value into question.

I myself have been getting these calls on my cell phone from multiple numbers, maybe 1-2 a week. I add the number to my reject list, but they call back with different numbers later. Just don't answer a call if you don't recognize the number. If it is someone legitimately needing to get in touch with you they will leave a message and you can call them right back. Be careful about being internet vigilantes, the person listed as owning the number is a victim, not the scumbag scam callers.

Remember that the autodialers used by VP Marketing and Versadebt call numbers randomly. They have no regard to whether it is a home, business, or cell phone. The Federal or state do-not-call lists DO NOT APPLY TO THEM. WHY? BECAUSE THEY ARE CROOKS. Crooks by their nature do not obey the law. They will not add you to their do-not-call lists because they do not maintain any!

Good luck everyone. Remember, don't just vent you anger here. Fight back! You can make a difference!

You have two solutions to deal with this problem.
1) Speak to a customer service representative. Pretend to be interested in either lowering your credit card interest rate or a car warranty. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY REAL INFORMATION. Give them a fake credit card number, a fake name, and a fake SS#. Tell them you own a Ferrari, or a 1937 Dodge (however, if you really own one of those two, tell them you own a Buick).

Your goal is simple. Keep them on the phone for as long as possible. You want to learn as much as you can about which company is calling you. These scam artists hide behind several corporate entities. There are several registered in Georgia, and at least 20 different companies registered in Florida. All are owned by the same people. Also, the time you waste means them have less time to steal from someone who is unknowledgeable about their scams. They get paid to rip people off. Take away their time, and they make no money!

2) Read Jack's comments above, and file a report with the Federal Communications Commission. They will investage. Also, you may also contact your state's Attorney General office. Look for the last link under Jack's post to see the impact your actions can have.

3) Call the real phone numbers: VP Marketing is listed in their help wanted advertisements under 678-238-1351. Versadebt's owner is Marvin Cox Jr. He listed 678-569-0620 as the company phone number with the Articles of Incorporation with the Georgia Department of State. This is all public information.

J. GALLANT IS NOT CALLING YOU.

REPEAT.

J. GALLANT IS NOT CALLING YOU.

There is noting to learn about this person. He or she is a victim, just as you are.

The scammers at VP Marketing and Versadebt are spoofing his or her phone number on their caller ID. I once got over a dozen calls from them in one week. Each one of those calls had a different non-working number from Maine.

This is now the 8th number I have from these guys- its a total scam- i've done a lot of research. Do NOT give any of your information out- they are a company that will take your money- then dissappear. I have been getting calls from them since about March this year- almost on a daily basis. Try not to answer the phone because when you do, that is how they know they have a working number. They are in a few lawsuits right now. Best thing you can do is write a letter to the Attorney General in Florida--thats where Great Atlantic Warranty comes from. Google it and you will find all sorts of Scam information. I hope this helps you guys!!! Trust NO ONE!

This is the 4th call I've recieved, but the first one on my work cell phone. The first three I just hung up on the automated message, but was so frustrated that they continue to call that I pressed '1' to talk to a representative. The person on the phone immediately opens with: "Year, Make, Model..." I asked what company it was: National Auto Warranty, they call any number from a database for people who have purchased a 1997 or newer vehicle recently (which I have not). I asked her to remove my number, she said she would, I was going to give her my office desk phone as well and she explained that she could only remove the one number and hung up on me.

Important message to all those that have received a call from this number:
The company making this call with an auto dialer is a known scam outfit. They spoofed a phone number of some victim in Vermont. The phone number 802-763-2141 is just another victim of these scumbags. I've don a lot of research of this company. Actually, there are several affiliated companies, owned by the same people, that try to scam innocent victims. One scam is about auto warranties. The other is about credit card debt relief. Their MO is the same. The use an auto dialer, and call thousands of random numbers. They have no regard to the do not call lists. Your demands or complaints are worthless. They will continue to call you. If they call about a car warranty, the message says something as "This is the second notice on your extended vehicle warranty. Press one now to speak to a representative..." The message about credit debt mentions "This is Account Services. We are calling to lower your credit card debt. Press one now to speak to a representative..."

I've been getting these calls at work and now on my cell. I would love to find out who is doing this - it is very annoying. I am wondering if it is a study - some stupid college thing or an industrial security probe. A good question is who is behind this website? I see they are tracking the IP address's of everyone who goes to this website so this would provide a second level of tracking the effectiveness of the phone calls. There is some sort of string of commonality between everyone who is receiving these calls - be it a website, online purchase, adtracking, association with an organization, etc. I would caution everyone on answering these calls and never provide information online or over the phone unless you know who is on the other end. I haven't talked to J. Gallant - I don't answer unsolicited calls so I don't know what kind of information they are seeking.

I got a call from this number on my cell phone this morning, but didn't answer...I got a "...you're still eligible to reactivate your warranty coverage..." message left in my voice mailbox. Hmmm....interesting...if this is in reference to a car, the caller is barking up the wrong tree as I have no car... Have you noticed from my message and the messages of others that calls are being made to cell phones. I believe this company may have gleaned numbers from online. (I have left my number for affiliate programs.) Isn't it illegal to make sales calls to cell phone? Should we band together and contact the FCC, BBB, this company's state attorney generals office and get this company to stop making unsolicited phone calls?

To the best of my recollection, the recorded message indicated my warranty coverage on my vehicle was about to expire, and that I needed to renew it. When looking the number up comes back to J. Gallant at 1436 Dairy Hill Rd, South Royalton,Vt. 05068, I am going to send them a letter asking to be removed from their call list and send a copy to the BBB

I have received calls from this number on my work cell. Now I work at an auto auction... but they should know better. We have hundreds of numbers listed under our auction. They should know it's a business number only.

These idiots have been calling my and my wife's cell phones at least a dozen times over the last couple of months, even leaving recorded messages. What can be done to get them to leave us alone?

I have received this same warranty call a couple times. It's been a couple months since I received it but I looked it up and got the same thing you folks got, JGallant. How can I block a number from coming in to my cell, any ideas?

I received this call at 8:25pm (Eastern Time) and my caller ID showed "Gallant, J" called.

unsolicited call offering warranty extension from representative unwilling to tell me how they got my phone number, what model/year, and to transfer me to someone who could answer my questions
